will gluing every side of the joint cause any expansion issues? Curious if any twisting or warping happens since this will be outdoors and exposed to the elements. Unless the table is small enough to not be enough movement to matter?
Recently I made a bed for my son that used castle joints and I wish I had watched your video first. Your method is easy and nearly foolproof. Nice video.
As one who hates tablesaws, this is easy to do with a bandsaw. As a totally untrained kid, the castle joint was the first serious joint I ever made. I had never even seen one before. I figured it out for myself and made it with (some) low quality hand tools. It could have been a lot better but it was a great start.
absolutely perfect video on how to do castle joints. I have been making cutting boards for years but always wanted to learn how to make furniture but the joinery has always deterred me. over the last two or three months I've gotten serious about it. Couple times a week I would look at a video on basic joinery, hoping it would grab me, but I could never find one that inspired me, or seem to be doable to me for my first table base until I saw this one. Early last night, I went for it. Following this video step-by-step, which was very easy to do, but you get to the important points right away. There's not a bunch a jib jab about stuff that has nothing to do with the project. It's just precise and to the point and wanted. My table base came out absolutely perfect. And I am now hooked on making furniture. Thanks to you and this video. Well, I should say the second table base came out perfect. The first leg I made on the first base I hugged out all the material and moved onto the second leg and the third leg and the fourth leg just going off my marks. Obviously, I paused your video and missed the part that makes total sense about the importance of not moving the fence..ooops. Needless to say everything was off just a little bit, but the second go I watch the entire video from start to finish and then went back and follow the steps and I couldn't be happier with the results. Thank you very much.
Perfect!!! Exactly what I was looking for. Just moved and my coffee table that I've had for the last 18 years doesn't fit (a sidelite from a 60's home with light rope). Guess it's time I grow up. This will be my next build. The last table being so unique I wanted something to be a little "showie". The castle joints should do that.
What a beautiful table!!! I’ve been wanting to try my hand at castle joints and am in the process of putting together a counter for the front desk at my business and this is the PERFECT design! Thank you for your inspiration!
Great video...been planning a table with crown joints for the deck outside...I"ve never done these joints before so comming accross your tutorial was excellent timing...and has inspired me to get "crack a lackin'" Thanks again.
Great job on the castle joints! I recently made a bed using them and the tips you provided here will definitely be helpful for my next project using them.
The table is awesome! You made it look so easy. I’m actually making a table now, but the top overhangs the base, but maybe I’ll try your table next time as i like the look of the castle joints. Good job!
it is easy with a correctly set up table saw with all the sliding module (and the planner and probably the miter saw that are "just" quietly mentionned)
Beautiful table, Marie, and a great video on how to make a castle joint. Yours will now be one of the handful of videos that come up when you search for "castle joint". I love the look of the joint as well as it's inherent strength. I plan on using castle joints for my workbench, if I ever get around to making it.
I’m so happy and relieved you’re showing the castle joint on the table saw only! As a matter of fact I’d love to see plenty more joints from the table saw if you’re willing to demonstrate?! No shame in that whatsoever, I like chisels etc. but like you I’d rather have a more easy and consistent method to utilize over hand cutting each and every joint.
Very nice project, very good looking joint choice. End result is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your awesome project with us, from Henrico County Virginia
Marie thank you for sharing this project. I'm about to build a bed frame for my son and was looking at some clever joints :) Btw shiro = castle in japanese. 🥰
Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to provide this video. You are an inspiration. Clear instructions, and great result. I'm definitely going to try my hand at this.
What a fantastically complicated and we'll executed build.. I have been watching your excellent channel from the very early days... You have grown into an accomplished wordworker/designer... Well done Marie
Fantastic work, Marie! Really well done! 😃 I'm thinking about making a wooden support for my mother's compost exactly like that. 😃 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I saw this at the store cost a hit start searching I must say you did it perfectly just I don’t have the power tools only got circular saw but I shall try it one day
This is a great video. The table is attractive and your instruction is on point! I’ve watched a few of your videos and have been impressed by their craftsmanship. Good show! 👍🏼🌞
Hey there! I came here from /r/woodworking. What a great video and great build. Castle joints just have a certain amount of majesty to them, and to show them off here is excellent. I love finding new woodworking RUclipsrs i can learn from; I just subscribed and will be sure to check out the back catalog!
Could you use a castle joint for a bed frame? I would want to take it apart if I ever have to move it. Is the joint sturdy enough to hold without gluing?
well done and nice & simple design ! but 🤔: as it is an outside table there should be a gap like 5mm between the planks for wood movement ( i would suggest... ) !?
Yes, that is a good point to consider. I have about 1mm between the planks as I expect the boards to shrink (based on my experience with decks that always shrink and you end up with a gap).

The castle joints are perfect for this table. Well done and well instructed for we weekend sawdust makers. Thanks!!
Many thanks!

Nice ! That's the best explanation of a "castle joint" I've seen. That Cedar looks really good with the chunky design.
This is awesome! I now know what I am going to do with the 4-4x4x10' cedar posts I have been holding onto for years now.
Very nice. The joinery is something that only other woodworkers will fully appreciate and I'm sure we all do. Great job.
Good job nice explanation thank you for sharing these castle top joinery good job by for now I look forward to hear from you God-bless

Love the saw dust trick! Really finishes things off nicely.
This table is exactly what I want for my back deck. I might make two of them, just not in 40°C weather.
GREAT project, all the effort was well worth it, those joints really highlight the table! !! !!!
This was an amazing video!!! Beautiful build. Absolutely love it. Can’t wait to try this on a project. Thanks for sharing!!!

love your videos, keep up the great work...
I love these castle joints! What do you think about a ceramic inlay top instead of the cedar boards?
I'm not a fan of ceramic counters or tops, but would definitely be an interesting feature.
I've been watching your channel from the beginning. You've come a long way! Very nice build, amazing joinery!
