      I'm not sure they are willing to pay for two years of evenings and weekends. Thats a LOT of shop time, and a lot of basic consumables. Skill wise its a body shop techniction, so average annual salary in USA is $51k usd, then you have workshop rent, utilities, equipment, cost of capital.... even doing it full time with the oldest kid helping outside of school to making one every month (which would likely saturate the market really quick) you'd need to charge like $30k+ on top of the already perfect donor truck.

      @@SheepInACart I think the ideal way would be to scour auctions and/or water damage trucks (freshwater prefferably) as you pretty much have to do a complete teardown to do the inside bodywork. From there sell all the parts you don't need and buy crate motors (I'm not a diesel guy so idk if cummins has crate motors) toss them in and boom. I'd say as a business You'd need 4 guys on top of yourself and a 3 bay shop would be great (a lift would be a great thing to have but not required) As for market saturation over the continental united states 12 a year wouldn't be harmful until the first 1000 as an estimate. Tools and shop space would be the big expenses, though.

      It would still have to sectioned. I've built both six door Ford pickups and excursions. You always need two headliners. The rear window of the excursion is too differently shaped to match the 3rd door. The coolest one we made was a 6 door excursion 450 dually.

    Truly amazing. I've never understood why none of the factory 3 row of seats SUV's have a rear door like this, or for that matter any location adjustment (ie legroom vs cargo room tradeoff)... even a half door like an extended cab uses would make the 3rd row far less of a lemon than it normally is.

    • @imchris5000
      @imchris5000 5 лет назад

      its for crash ratings the doors are essentially voids in a crash everything these days is so much beefier in the bodys compared to the 90s and earlier

    • @SheepInACart
      @SheepInACart 5 лет назад

      @@imchris5000 Only we don't see such doors in older designs before rollover considerations either, and while it could be well be a factor today, many SUV's have opening (hence granting no structure in a crash) glass sunroof's that span all the way between two front rows, and there are still 4 door convertibles on sale. Hence the compromise of adding more weight in reinforcing to have the same crash performance and stiffness from large body voids seems to already be being made for what I consider a MUCH less practical reasons. Hence while a pillar-less design would be totally ruled out, I'm still surprised we don't see any brand opt for practical additions of weight over luxuries items.. because heated and cooled thrid row seats with no legroom or easy access like at least two of the current market options feature seems a very very weird compromise to me.

    There was a family in Sask that took their chevy down to Custom autos by Tim to get it stretched. I believe CAT is in Colorado. When they came back, the frame had been modified so the customs guys wouldnt let it back into the country. Eventually it had sat there for a year and the Premier had to finally step in and order it to be allowed into Canada.

    Some dry graphite lube all over the hood latch makes them open much easier, like new. Just did it on 2 ford pickups. No more hitting the hood to open.

    Nice looking build. Only a little longer than my F350 Crew Cab long box. Would have looked cool to tack on a SuperCab at the end. The 6.0 is a great engine if you treat it right.
