I've found that if you pay big money in China you get quality. Bought an expensive Chinese road bicycle and the guy asked me like 10 questions to make sure it would fit me before sending it out. And he offered to substitute a more expensive model because the one I wanted one was out of stock. Never got that service from any big name brand bike company. And the bike is surprisingly great quality and lasted so far.

Passenger vans, Pick up trucks, 6 ton GVW light trucks, mini buses, etc. used by various brands like Foton, Forland, King Long, Asiastar, Shacman, DongFeng, Huaxin, JoyLong, Higer... To cut the long story short... Almost any Chinese manufacturer of said vehicles.

Foton have been around in Australia for a long time but up until the recent cosmetic update of all 4x4 pickups homologation of styles.....FOTON actually ran their own style unique style all along? I'm not pro Chinese, but I did find that their styling was much more sedate and it looked "not so Chinese" style.....LDV and Great Wall run massive integrated badging and branding on all their cars! It looks hideous and an almost autistic version of 1990s boy racer vibe to their style.
So if I was going to buy a Chinese 4x4 pickup I would choose a FOTON purely because it's not Chinese puke 🤮
LDV were for a long time were pretty much rip off Toyota Hiaces. You could literally swap the emblem and grill and you could hardly tell the difference? Great Wall utes were pretty much a gay looking Mitsubishi Triton....exact same Triton motor and gearbox but Chinesified. Aussies would just replace everything with Mitsubishi parts as they were all interchangeable..... Then all of a sudden when China started to peak with industry and production and globalise it's own brands, that's when nearly all the Chinese manufacturers took a drastic side step from "mimicking" Western brands and going fully Chinese designed and styled? FOTON however (I think because of their North American partnerships and influences) have decided to maintain a more western (Japanese) styling to try maintain good sales in western markets (well that's what I believe?)
In Australia we have have the Isuzu D-max and the resemblance I think looks more like the Dmax than Hilux?
I have friends that bought a FOTON and i went with them when they picked it up. It appeared to be built pretty solid from appearances? The things I noted were old school simplicity and not overly tech filled like I was expecting from a Chinese vehicle?
Solid wheels that had decent styling and for a standard wheel (I have worked at a custom wheel fabrication and restoration - I note these things) and it had a good track square track width and rubber filled the guards 👍
Every single other Chinese thing around had skinny cheese cutter wheels with tyres inches inside the arches. Basically useless meaning you were up for a set of wheels straight away as soon as you buy them?
I told my friends that I was a still a bit dubious, but the price point couldn't beat it in comparison to even some of the poverty pack Japanese models especially considering the price of upgrading wheels and tyres on those as well?
I'm a Mazda rotary enthusiast so you can take my autistic monologue with a grain of salt.
I'm glad they went Cummins instead of Cat at the very least 👌 keeping this close to the heart makes for no conflicts of interest and less swearing during development (in my opinion).
We all know they didn't really want to go with cat 😆

What they did with the wires you'll see on nicer residential construction. Makes it easier to troubleshoot things. Also, instead of a massive hole going through each wall they drill the appropriate size hole for each wire so it's much easier to fill afterwards.
It's one of those things that it doesn't matter. You'll never see it, but for the people who build it, it matters and you notice.

Well now looking back it, the mid-1970s was a watershed moment for China. They have already managed to build the industrial capability, albeit a crude one at a VERY high cost, that drastically differed from China of like the 1940s when it was largely agriculture not unlike the centuries before. They also had fostered an educated, motivated, reasonably (by 3rd-world standard) well taken care of workforce that was young at the time. What they lacked were the capital, up-to-date technology, modern management skills and a taste for the market. These began to pour in after 1979 and rest became history.

Bosch, Brose, Schaeffler, Mekra Lang, CITIC or KSM Castings, Valeo (who own FTE automotive) and the Foton base of Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive will make you stop wondering why every screw is marked. It not only looks like a Mercedes Sprinter, it is, just with a Cummins, Canadian seats and some sort of hybrid system judging by the VIE logo on there also developed somewhere else.

I truly love this concept! I have been an auto Nissan technician for over 33 years. I have been involved with the Nissan hybrid Altima and Pathfinder. They all used the same 4 cylinder or v6 coupled to a generator and battery pack. They weren’t ever efficient that I could see.
But!!!!! Your concept of a small diesel coupled to a generator and battery pack with drive axle motor is a concept I thought of years ago.
I’m in North West Arkansas and would be very interested in becoming an installer of the retrofit system at some point. I can’t wait to see how this all turns out! Great job taking this idea and working to make it happen.

Cummins 2.8 is in everything in South America too. Basic kit for medium duty a truck is Cummins engine with Eaton 6 speeds. The 2.8 engine with the final drives used here are not powerful enough, it is the “light” version of medium duty truck, soft and weak frame, rated for light loads of 2000kg at most
The actual real work trucks use the 3.8 and can load up to 7000-7500kg safely maybe even more.
what I dislike is the cable gear switching style these newer gearboxes use, a rigid tube is much better for driver feedback and it’s simpler too.
getting back to Cummins on Chinese vehicles, they also are in most heavy duty machinery such as wheel loaders, excavators, motor graders, etc. the only Chinese things are the hoses, tires and frames. Only in very specific cases you see Chinese engines or hydraulics.

@@DEBOSSGARAGEemissions for range extenders will be easier to pass because you 100% of the time operating at peak efficiency of the engine. cleanest range of engine.
additional to that addiction of gas (methane/ propane) improve emissions substantially.
If you certify the engine anyway it's worth to test it. even if you don't need it now, but making the engine ready for future standards.
modern road certified installation with install in Poland costs ~$1200, port injection for each cylinder egt/knock control. and if propane is cheaper than substantial money savings.
you will burn ~6L of propane and ~5L of diesel, instead of 10L of diesel only.
and you still can run on diesel only.

Smaller diesel engines but Hatz makes some great diesel engines for generators that pass and actually exceed us emissions. Depending on the kw you’re looking for out of the engine they could be another option.
Btw what kind of kw are you looking for out the diesel engine to generate?
