I can understand the desire to modify it but personally even if I had Brian Shaw's money I wouldn't. There's no need it has plenty of clearance already. Maybe more of an off road tire when those wear out. I would however want to do something about the front end. Like he said I don't like the look. Maybe get rid of it being two tone color scheme and go all white with a front bumper/winch that's flat black. When you start to do too many modifications you compromise the truck's longevity. The reason the 7.3 Ford diesel is so bulletproof is because it's underpowered from the factory. You can easily push way over twice the factory horsepower but now it's no longer a bulletproof motor. You just cut it's life in half or worse. Extreme lifts and much bigger tires? Okay cool now your truck drives like absolute shit. You're relegated to buying a new dually diesel and a trailer to drag this thing to some off roading site. If that's what you want to do go ahead but don't expect to not hate how it drives on the road. Just my first hand knowledge opinion. At 38 I've known plenty of people with ridiculous lifts and tires on trucks, SUV's and Jeeps and every single one of them drove like a log. My 2010 Tacoma is lifted on 33's and even that compromised how it drove a great deal compared to the factory 31's. Driving Jeep Wranglers on 35's is a nightmare.
Brian, congrats on the Excursion! We couldn't help but notice the Banks iDash on the windshield. Let's put the gauge in an A-pillar mount and add some upgrades like our Intercooler, Turbo Compressor Housing and wastegate, Ram-Air Intake, Monster-Exhaust, Trans Command module and more. We've emailed you.
Someone needs to step up and help with the transmission as well. I used to own an 02 f350 and one of the biggest complaints I had was how loose/sluggish it felt. Those excursions are even heavier so I'm sure it doesn't feel like a sports car. Appropriately sized turbo and injector combo really helps but the real issue is that 4 speed. Either a allison swap or maybe a 5r110? Either option would be an amazing upgrade. I currently own a 4 door 2006 lbz duramax and I gotta say, the transmission is amazing. Makes towing feel effortless and smooth. It's light years ahead of that old 4 speed
Id be super interested in a 7.3 build on your channel. I just bought me a f250 7.3, a lot for the same reasons you decided on the 7.3. Awesome gem you found Brian
@@yepitsme2536 5r110 would be a great swap. The 4R100 are bullet proof though and were rated at 1200ft/lbs from the get-go. The wiring ford did was comical though. The 3rd tail light (On the cab) was wired into the transmission, so if the light had a short, it would cause issues in the tranny. Another thing is they are super picky about alternators/voltage regulators. I had the same issue, hard shifts or early shifts in my early 99, went to a mean green 220amp and it solved all my issues.
Upgrades I would do having owned one for a couple years. 1. Dana 60 front axle. Stronger than the Dana 50 and lockers are much more readily available. 2. 37 inch tires. You can run 37's on the stock suspension. 3. Warn locking hubs on the front axle.
@@nobodylifts and they had a few after market parts as well, a S&B cold air intake, they even had a fuel bowl delete, well at least it looks like that from the video…
Great truck. Lucky new owner. The 4R100 transmission will last only 160,000 miles unless you Loctite the three pedestal bolts for the hydraulic pump in the transmission. Bolts are above the valve body. The transmission power shaft will eventually vibrate the bolts loose, then hydraulic oil will leak and line pressure will fail, then clutches will spin, then transmission will overheat and burn the fluid and destroy the clutch plates. I know because two of my 4R100s did that and had to visit BTS for their 1000HP transmission rebuild. Great shop for that work. The 7.3PS is 50% detuned by Ford to not destroy the transmission. But leaving the 7.3PS detuned will allow the engine to be a million mile engine just like the BTS million mile transmission. Had a bad torque converter rattling from the factory. Dealer never said anything was wrong. But even the receptionist at BTS recognized the bad converter rattle as soon as I drove up. Shameful Ford dealer not saying anything or fixing it under warranty. Noticed there is a coolant filter to catch the casting sand from the factory. At 70,000 miles that problem should have cleared. Be sure to run the ELC Coolant to protect for engine killing cavitation. Since it doesn't have a catalytic converter, run extra zinc additive to protect bearing wear surfaces, especially the camshaft since EPA has been deleting zinc additive to protect catalytic converters while destroying the engines. The diesel trucks had a one size for all gasoline tank for the truck builds. The extra long fuel filler tube one foot emissions air gap for the gasoline tanks is not needed for the diesels. A hack is to pull the filler tub and shorten it to allow an extra three gallons of diesel in the tank which you made need for towing. Watch out for the top of the left A pillar leaking onto the BCM at the bottom left of the dash by the emergency brake pedal. At least put a rain coat over the BCM until time for a permanent leak solution. Mechanics say never ever get rid of the 7.3 Powerstroke. New EPA diesels are junk. Don't make the mistake the last guy made and sell that truck. There may be a corrugated cable bundle rubbing through the aluminum intake air charge pipe. Check it and separate them if rubbing. Careful of the vacuum operated front 4x4 hubs. There is no drain hole for condensation which will build up and rust out the front wheel bearings. Front end is a lot of weight for rusty bearings. You will notice turn slack and bumping as bearing going out. Get good rubber vacuum hoses to replace the gummy bear hoses Ford provided on the hubs. When I run Biodiesel in my Powerstroke, people complain about being hungry because exhaust smells like fried chicken. :- ) Yes it is real biodiesel and not raw frying oil which has wax that will damage combustion chamber of a diesel engine. The wax plasticizes into pellets that ping the piston. Carry extra Ford CPS. If wont start and and no tach movement, the CPS failed. Carry the wrench to replace the CPS in case stranded somewhere. If the IPV fails a certain way, that truck will launch like a dragster. Very scary when in traffic. It is like the fuel pedal is in monster mode. Smoked the dually tires when it happened. Nice feature, is that engine wont fire up if engine oil is low. Solves that problem. Happy trucking.
I think you meant IPR valve? Regarding the front wheel bearings, riffraff diesel sells a sweet grease zerk. Google Front ABS Grease-able Block Off Fitting 99-16 Part Number:RDPABS
How is this a great truck after an essay of potential hazards and issues with the truck XDDD 🤣 By the time i read half of this i was thinking its a troll post xDDD
The 7.3L Powerstroke is one of, if not the, best engines Ford ever put in a truck. It’s bulletproof and the excursion is so roomy. Always been a dream of mine, too. Never expected to see an ‘02 in this shape with this few mileage. What a treat.
Hey Brian, beautiful Excursion there! I have a 2001 7.3 diesel myself. Since I've had mine for the last 2 years, I would say the number 1 must have would definitely be better brakes. I was able to do that easily since mine was already lifted 4 inches, so I added 20"rims to add the bigger brakes so there would not be any clearance issues. This truck has a lot of mass, and with towing and all, it'll definitely be the most important upgrade you can make, especially if you plan on towing with it.
Hell yes! I bought an 01' F350 7.3L brand new. Crazy I've had it for over 20yrs now, on the cusp of 400k miles. I bought my wife an 02' 7.3L excursion for my wife in 2015 from a very nice lady in Michigan that only put 40k miles on it. Nothing beats the 7.3 and those old school seats. I feel Brian's pain, I'm 6'10 so the room is a must! Keep it right B, and your boys will be driving that thing before too long
😂 my wife takes our kids to school in the same car my mom took me to school in a 01' 7.3 excursion I've got my dad's matching f250... We have other cars and another 7.3 but those two get loved on.
I loved my 2002 7.3L Excursion! I had it for 8 years and also bought mine from a one owner. Kids are grown so it's starting to sit- worst thing for a diesel. I highly recommend the K & N filter and a tuner (Edge- Evolution). They do alot for your fuel economy. Also the fuel modification with the springs in the fuel bowl. I was getting 16/17 mpg (paper and pencil method) with the mods. I also recommend the FS2500 oil bypass filtration. Keeps your oil clean. Your injectors will thank you. Something else I added was the RACOR fuel filtration. Works better than the screens on the sending unit. Now the only downside- a 20+ year old truck is going to start having failures due to its age. Some parts are no longer available through Ford and you will be reliant on the junkyard for some parts. I totally miss my truck!
She's mint Brian. Riff Raff Diesel makes some great products for the 7.3. I recommend the 140v IDM mod for easier starts in the winter and some more power. Hotshots Secret stiction eliminator in the oil every other oil change or every oil change (all their products are great, I use FR3 in all my vehicles, front to back.) I would always pour the stiction eliminator right into the oil filter and drain and fill the HPOP with it. I personally use Delo 400 or Rotella t6 for oil with Wix filters or Napa Gold. 5w-30 in the winter, 15w-40 the rest of the year. 100 dollar man used to offer great marine grade glow plugs and glow plug relays. I liked to make my own fuel additive with 2 stoke oil, cetane booster, anti-gel (winter) and some ATF. I've owned (4) 7.3s, I could get them to start on the first glow plug cycle in -30F without being plugged in with the winter. Running the 5w-30, I wouldn't tow too heavy though, keep it in the 10-13k gross weight.
Brian, I would like to see every single step you take with this truck if you wouldn't mind. I'm literally talking any upgrade, light bulb change, hell even car wash! You having the means to buy any of these newer vehicles that you want but loving this classic is really nice to see. Not to mention, the condition you were able to get this in is CRAZY, as if the one owner kept it in a garage for 20 years so paint wouldn't fade etc. I know people that have bought newer cars and they don't look this good, no accident or anything, just the lack of actually taking care of the vehicle itself! Thank you for the video and hope to see plenty more updates to come! Keep being GREAT!
Hey Brian! My first vehicle turning 16 was a 2000 Excursion with the 7.3. I still have it and in the process of restoring it. Shes got 310,000 miles on her and shes been used for what she was built for but I wouldn't trade it for any other vehicle on the road. You definitely hit the pot of gold with this one! I look forward to seeing the modifications as I rebuild mine along with your customizations!
My dad has a 97 f250 powerstroke diesel. I can't describe how much I love that truck. The sound, smell, and body. That thing took us on so many childhood defining adventures. Also once you learn to drive a manual transmission in a big diesel truck any other manual transmission is an absolute cake walk.
It actually makes driving a gasoline engine/manual transmission combo harder because you have to be a lot quicker on and off the clutch pedal compared to the old school diesels with 5 speeds. They make more then enough torque that its actually hard to stall them and you have to shift them much slower. But, those 90s diesels are great. This excursion shares the same 7.3 as your dads 97.
My dad has a 2003 f-250 lariat extended cab long bed . Same color white with gold trimming with same interior. We took out the 6.0 motor and did a .20 over with new pistons and heads with upgraded oil cooler by bulletproof diesel. Every flaw the 6.0 had we corrected it. Hopefully we can finish the build by this year. Then we are going to upgrade the transmission and fuel system. Love your videos Brian !
Good luck. I’ve replaced every part, harness, and sensor under the hood of my bulletproofed 6.0 at least once in 25k miles. It’s awesome when it’s acting right, but it’s temperamental.
please keep us in the loop on this shaw, my dad recently gave me his 01 f350 dually. he is the only owner but it was used to haul cars most of its life, so im restoring it to its former glory. Love that 7.3 powerstroke , mine has over 500k and runs like new, it will never let you down!
Brian, also make sure it has rear swaybar, some of the earlier Excursions did not have one, it helps a lot with body roll and stability, important thing for safety.
I love the 7.3. I have a 2001 f250 with the 7.3. I have 400k miles on it and she is still going strong. I have always wanted a excursion. Great buy Brian!
I own a 2000 Excursion, 4x4 XLT 6.8L, and had a 2003 Ford F350 4X4 XLT 6.8L, if you're unaware, some simple things to keep in mind- -the stock wheel lockers are known to be finicky, Warn lockers seem to be the way to go -the rear hatch struts are known to loose their pressure which will cause problems keeping the hatch up, especially in colder weather, some people will actually buy new ones with a few more PSI -you probably know this one, the body style uses some of the same parts from the F250/F350 Pick ups, this means the lock actuators and widow motors might give out early -the third row seat, when removed, has a set of plastic wheels on one side for easy moving -front windshield wipers should be 20", the rear 16" -please use caution when closing the rear doors, if the hatch is closed before the barn doors, the barn doors may shatter the glass if they are attempted to be shut -an additional gas tank may make sense if you want 600+ miles per fill up, I normally keep mine at around half full to keep the excess weight to a minimum, I only fill it up completely if I need to drive longer distances -I would use caution when looking for "universal" parts that work on the F250/350/Ex's as things like a leaf spring for the F series when used on an Ex will add additional 2" to the over hight(example: 5" lift parts on F series will equal a 7" lift on an Ex), also, some parts like fender flairs will not fit properly on the rear as the rear parts will follow the straight design of the F series bed and not tapper upwards to the bumper like on an Ex rear end -if you are going to replace the front windshield at any point, take care in saving the factory sticker from the plant as the replacement glass will not have it, they are almost like a collectors item -it's still manly to get a step ladder to /reach/clean the roof -I bought a wide angled rear view mirror slip over attachment, works like a charm, I recommend thhe one from Broadway, as the other one I tried from Autozone, the tension nubs would not open up far enough -the Ex's uses Dana 50's, the F250/350's use Dana 60's, same set up, just smaller parts, I'd upgrade if wanting to really hit the trails/haul -maybe try an 8 foot antenna if you're getting bad radio signal -if you don't know your door code, depending on the year, their should be it on a sticker somewhere on a part someplace that's tucked just out of the way, it's possible to change it and set it to whatever desired combination as well as set up an additional combination that will only work in a specific way that I can not currently remember (Sorry!) -I'd get seat covers(leather ones even) to keep the factory ones protected as well as if you're looking to add some custom personality there are some decent Ex videos on YT that cover some possible common issues if that is of any interest ---That's about as much as can think of, Hope you enjoy your new ride, and drive safe! 😋👍🏻
i absolutely love the 7.3.. i had a 2002 F250 super duty 4x4 that i traded in with 882,000 miles.. all i did was fuel seperator o rings and oil cooler. amazing trucks and engines.. happy for you Brian..
Brian, I'm a huge fan of yours and Excursions!!!!! I was cheering when I seen this video posted, my best mod ever to mine was a front axle swap, I used an axle from an F450 (must be 2005 and up with coils this is the real Dana super 60 axle) at first with factory coils and then later switched to airbags, rides amazing now and I have huge F450 brakes that blow the stock brakes away (you need to run 20" wheels minimum to clear the brakes). The F450 axle was converted from 10 lug to 8 lug and dually adapters dropped to narrow it and now my tires turn to a full 45+ degrees, only the F450 and F550 axles turn this sharp, its night and day difference to park and stop now. The front axle is wider so to even the track width to the rear I used a dana 80 from 2004 and earlier dually, major rear end upgrade. Please Please keep us updated with the modifications you do!
Probably over $9k in suspension and related, axles, wheels, and tires alone, just parts, did all labor myself including radius arm fab and airbag mount fab, over 150 hours for sure, its very clean, all meticulously dismantled and painted, new power stop drilled and slotted rotors all around, new F450 power steering box to turn the full 45 degrees, lots of small details to make it all work and look clean. 08 up rear springs that are 8" longer for better ride. Helwwig 1.5" bigwig sway bar in front for F450, Detroit true trac diff in front, lots of extra's. On board air with in cab control for bags at all 4 corners, the rear is just overload bags front is 100% air ride. @@MaximusMerideus
Beautiful truck, Brian! It is essentially an F250 with a permanent bed cab and 3rd row of seats! What a beast! The older Powerstoke engines perform and sound excellent! Congratulations on your purchase!
Being born into a car family, I would LOVE to see a video series of any modifications you make to your truck. I love the Excursion too, it’s so underrated but I didn’t know it had four packages. Stuff like that is really interesting to me and a lot of other people
Can't wait!!! Stoked to see this beauty of a rig get a few mods. Super cool to see Brian this excited about a tank, I've always been a fan of these Excursions.
Love the truck. I got my 7.3 4x4 Limited about 7 months ago and I absolutely love it. It was also my dream truck. It has 260k miles and it runs near perfect. Congrats on your purchase.
The truck is like “oh my gosh what have my owners done? This guy is crushing me!” I love Keri’s response hahaha our wives are never excited about mens toys😂
Seeing Brian buy an Excursion with a 7,3 Powerstroke makes me love this guy even more. I’d love to see more videos about the truck! Btw the front guard looks awesome 😎
A tip that will let your turbo last longer. When you get where you are going don't shut the truck off right away, let it idle for about 5 minutes. They used to sell a product called the turbo timer. You could turn the key off and it would let the truck idle until the turbo temp dropped enough then it would shut the truck off.
I can't believe how easily you get in and out of that rig and how much room you have around you when Seated. That is awesome. Yes, I would enjoy following your customization. Congrats on your new toy, B!
Excursions are great, same room in the back seat and 3rd row as there is in the front (including headspace) with all your bigger buddies they’d be comfortable on a long trip. Would love to see a build series on it! Ranch hand makes great bumpers for these!
7:36 Brian, that is what you get when you use a pressure washer on the engine bay. very clean and with an older car : DAMAGED connections, hoses that will lead to failure in no time. But it looks good and clean.
Brian really found a Gem in this truck. Finding a 2002 Excursion with 70K miles one owner is wow... I loved this car back when I was a kid and seeing this one makes me want one now that I'm older 😅
My father drove an excursion in the early 2000's. Absolutely loved it!! EXCURSIONS AND THE H2'S are the best big man SUVS from back in the day for sure! 10-4!!
If you're going to put taller tires on it be sure to lower (numerically higher)the gears in the differentials. That way you don't put excess stress on the transmission. I can't wait to see you build this truck man! Also congrats!
It has a coolant by pass on it as well!! Whoever had it took crazy care of it absolutely beautiful!! 7.3 best engine ever!! Hell ya congrats 🎊 more videos please
I know you more than likely wont respond to this post… but you have helped me more than you believe in my life and your larger and life personality .. your dedication and humble kindness is out of this world… Ive been heavy lifting for years and sadly with numerous injuries and my wife being extremely poorly I’ve taken a back seat with myself for years… until that is i started watching your videos… Thank you so much Brian and keep fighting strong mate.
I would definitely like to see a build series or customize series on this truck. I really love the Excursion like you do. It sounds like we’re about the same age, I was in high school when these trucks were big and popular too. Normally I don’t allow people to call an SUV a truck, but this is my one exception, the Excursion. Main reason is because of the lack of a bed, but this thing is so huge like a truck, that…. OK….. you’re a truck. lol
Gotta see more my uncle had an 02 excursion with the v10 thing was a beast and so cool. Wheels and tires front and rear bumper changes. Some kind of roof rack. Diff paint. Off road lighting
Congratulations!! I just picked up a 2000 v10 for a couple specific towing trips I need to make. I have fallen in love with it - it's a Nebraska truck, so it has rust - so I'm now looking for a rust free 7.3 to buy. These rigs are friggin' awesome!!
Those Ford 7.3L diesels from 99 through 2004 (If I remember correctly) are solid, solid engines. Not sure about that bush bar, but that suspension looks solid. Interested to see what you do with it.
@@waaa141995 2003 was actually last year. Midway through morons at EPA had standards Ford had to meet. Thus the POS 6.0 was born. Last half of 03’ till they lost so many customers they went to 6.4 and eventually current 6.7 Powerstroke.
Welcome to the Excursion family!!! I had mine 2000 limited since 2011. Love driving it!! Totally agree with the space specially, without the center console Like the newer trucks that are so wide, taking up some of my knee space Yes, I have a brand new diesel, but I still love my excursion and I drive it !!!
7.3 was definitely the way to go brian, i luv mine too n planning to do many more to it and im wishing you the best with yours. i say for the wheels and tires a 6 inch lift on 38s would look pretty good on it imo 🔥🔥
Bro found one of the cleanest in the country. Low Low miles. This baby is not even broken in.. It will perform even better if he drives it consistently over time. Congrats Brian!
Welcome to the Excursion family brother!! I have a 2005 6.0 Powerstroke Limited that’s been bullet proofed, lift kit, as well as many other mods. I love my rig!!
Congratulations big man every one of your videos I’ve watched you are such a humble man much respect for that ! Can’t wait to see what you do with the truck
I would recommend you to have some safety features added. Just had my 2000 7.3 stolen this week. Make sure you have cameras and put trackers in it so you always know where it goes. Good looks love the old trucks
Awesome truck! I’m 41 and understand the nostalgia. Go bigger wheels/tires, but I’d go w chrome. White w chrome looks great. Gotta go 37” tires on her too.
70,000 miles!!! Heck that is brand spanking new. Our 7.3 excursion has 300,000; I drive it one or two days a week anymore to keep the batteries charged. It runs and drives fantastic still. We bought it 20 years ago. Plan on keeping it always.
If you do a turbo upgrade do your self a favor and stay away from KC turbos they do have thier place and benefits but If you plan to tow and do some low speed off the beaten trail driving then I highly recommend the Garrett GTP38R with .84ar housing. Hands down the Garrett ball bearing turbos are the quickest spooling turbos for the 7.3 and also give you that much needed low down torque straight of the bottom. I have tried the KC300X 63/73 and yes they are good for top end power but spool up is slow. My friend also tried a KC38R cartridge replacement for his 38r and it never spooled anywhere near as quick. If you are no doubt a regular on services and don't thrash the guts out of your truck every other day, I guarentee from my own experience this turbo will last just as long as the stock cartridge bearing turbo. If you love turbo whistle you won't be disappointed. Happy mods and you have an amazing project we can't wait to see happen.
One of the best trucks ever. Ford should bring them back. It’s so funny how every wife never gets excited. My wife uses the exact comment when I buy something and I’m really excited: “As long as you’re happy” said completely in a monotone voice. Enjoy the new rig and it’s always fun to add new things.
Brian, I can remember going with my grandfather and picking up a 7.3 Excursion when I was about your son's age. This is going to build such good memories for you kids and family. Enjoy!
Have the same 2002 Ford Excursion 7.3 black vs white here in AK, either the 1st start was done like it was a gas engine or the fuel intjectors need to be replaced/updated for cold starts. No need to reve the engine. I have done a crud ton of reseach for additiosn/modifcations. I would say you only have about 2-3 years before modifcations are rare to get hold of. Would love see what you want to do it. It is perfect for us half giants to full giants!
purchase a new / updated CPS sensor and keep it in the glove box. 1 10mm bolt to swap out, easily done on the side of the road, and is one pesky bugger that can cause a ton of headache on the 7.3 if you're caught without a spare. Also get a hydra chip on that sucker if you plan on towing. Same with added RAS rear spring helpers, way better than airbags and i've got them on my excursion.
My parents got an 03 excursion in 05 and still have it. I drove it for many years and plan to buy it from them very soon. That 44 gallon tank was never fun to fill up when gas was expensive but dang it’s hard to beat these tanks. Congratulations on a great rig!
Awesome choice. Been looking for something similar, can’t go wrong with the 7.3L. Much better than the 6.0. You mentioned a colour change, I highly recommend not getting a wrap. They look good for a year and then they start to have issues… and then removing an old wrap is absolutely terrible. Spend the extra money and get a proper paint job done.
I love the 7.3l types of diesel, they are incredible engines and will definitely give you very little trouble up to and beyond that million-mile mark. I love my 08 Hummer H2, as a fellow larger man myself it's the only truck I truly fit in. Shame they don't make them anymore, but the most enjoyable ride I've ever experienced.
The 7.3’s are a peach in general and the excursions are really quite nice. An old friend is a farm mechanic, and has a 7.3 F350 dually service truck with 350,000 miles. This trucks entire life, that service box has been loaded down heavy, trucks probably 14-15000 pounds, always has the skid steer trailer on it, always got farm kids beating on it, it’s always out in the fields to fix a broke tractor. Old school dead nuts reliable 7.3. Think the biggest job he’s ever had to do to it is replacing the clutch. I’ve seen pictures of 7.3’s being torn down with north of 800,000 miles, and still having crosshatch in the cylinders. They don’t make engines like that anymore.
I'd definitely love to watch you modify the truck in the future. Some vlogs about the process would be great, if they can fit in the schedule.
Agreed. That rig says, "Brian Shaw" all over it!

This just made my day. Two of my favorite channels
This might have a dana 60 already in it you could get them factory in 01/02 when the superdutys switched to them it was an option for the excursions

Love seeing these 7.3’s get an owner that really appreciates their quality. Congrats Brian!

The 7.3L Powerstroke is one of, if not the, best engines Ford ever put in a truck. It’s bulletproof and the excursion is so roomy. Always been a dream of mine, too. Never expected to see an ‘02 in this shape with this few mileage. What a treat.
70,000 miles are less?
@@aayushphysio178 definitely. It’s hard to find a 7.3 powerstroke with less than 300k nowadays.

Shame that the rest of the truck is utterly garbage. One of the worst trucks Ford has ever produced.

hahaha maybe if they were a team of 3
Hey Brian, beautiful Excursion there!
I’m not typically a huge Ford fan but they nailed it with these excursions. Absolutely fantastic rig

Crazy to see shaw have the same taste for the legendary 7.3 as me. Awesome rig
Fun to see a man this excited about a truck. I feel we can all relate! Definitely we’ll deserved. Good things come to those who wait.
7.3 exhaust smell reminds me of my grandpas truck every time. Shame my uncle sold the truck once he passed
Have to agree with Krusty, Diesel are way easier to drive, even modern ones compared to gasoline.
I'm not sure I would consider that a big diesel truck, but yeah
As a truck guy and a bodybuilding fan, this collab is for the ages.
And I wanna see every bit of it.

Good luck. I’ve replaced every part, harness, and sensor under the hood of my bulletproofed 6.0 at least once in 25k miles. It’s awesome when it’s acting right, but it’s temperamental.

Brian, also make sure it has rear swaybar, some of the earlier Excursions did not have one, it helps a lot with body roll and stability, important thing for safety.
I am super interested in seeing this project, you can tell Brian is really passionate about it
I love the 7.3. I have a 2001 f250 with the 7.3. I have 400k miles on it and she is still going strong. I have always wanted a excursion. Great buy Brian!
I own a 2000 Excursion, 4x4 XLT 6.8L, and had a 2003 Ford F350 4X4 XLT 6.8L, if you're unaware, some simple things to keep in mind-
-the stock wheel lockers are known to be finicky, Warn lockers seem to be the way to go
-the rear hatch struts are known to loose their pressure which will cause problems keeping the hatch up, especially in colder weather, some people will actually buy new ones with a few more PSI
-you probably know this one, the body style uses some of the same parts from the F250/F350 Pick ups, this means the lock actuators and widow motors might give out early
-the third row seat, when removed, has a set of plastic wheels on one side for easy moving
-front windshield wipers should be 20", the rear 16"
-please use caution when closing the rear doors, if the hatch is closed before the barn doors, the barn doors may shatter the glass if they are attempted to be shut
-an additional gas tank may make sense if you want 600+ miles per fill up, I normally keep mine at around half full to keep the excess weight to a minimum, I only fill it up completely if I need to drive longer distances
-I would use caution when looking for "universal" parts that work on the F250/350/Ex's as things like a leaf spring for the F series when used on an Ex will add additional 2" to the over hight(example: 5" lift parts on F series will equal a 7" lift on an Ex), also, some parts like fender flairs will not fit properly on the rear as the rear parts will follow the straight design of the F series bed and not tapper upwards to the bumper like on an Ex rear end
-if you are going to replace the front windshield at any point, take care in saving the factory sticker from the plant as the replacement glass will not have it, they are almost like a collectors item
-it's still manly to get a step ladder to /reach/clean the roof
-I bought a wide angled rear view mirror slip over attachment, works like a charm, I recommend thhe one from Broadway, as the other one I tried from Autozone, the tension nubs would not open up far enough
-the Ex's uses Dana 50's, the F250/350's use Dana 60's, same set up, just smaller parts, I'd upgrade if wanting to really hit the trails/haul
-maybe try an 8 foot antenna if you're getting bad radio signal
-if you don't know your door code, depending on the year, their should be it on a sticker somewhere on a part someplace that's tucked just out of the way, it's possible to change it and set it to whatever desired combination as well as set up an additional combination that will only work in a specific way that I can not currently remember (Sorry!)
-I'd get seat covers(leather ones even) to keep the factory ones protected as well as if you're looking to add some custom personality
there are some decent Ex videos on YT that cover some possible common issues if that is of any interest
---That's about as much as can think of, Hope you enjoy your new ride, and drive safe! 😋👍🏻

My man, how much did it cost you to build your Excursion out? Also, ow many man hours?

A tip that will let your turbo last longer. When you get where you are going don't shut the truck off right away, let it idle for about 5 minutes. They used to sell a product called the turbo timer. Happy mods and you have an amazing project we can't wait to see happen.

purchase a new / updated CPS sensor and keep it in the glove box.
One of the best motors ever built beautiful ride big boy
My parents got an 03 excursion in 05 and still have it. I drove it for many years and plan to buy it from them very soon. That 44 gallon tank was never fun to fill up when gas was expensive but dang it’s hard to beat these tanks. Congratulations on a great rig!
Please make a ton of vlogs with this beast! This is my all time favorite truck! The 7.3 can’t be beat!
Yes!! Definitely wanna see the truck upgrade journey!
Yes, we would love to see you modify the excursion. Can’t wait for the outcome!!! Let’s go ShawStrength!!!!
The sweet clatter of a 7.3 is unmistakable
Definitely need an Excursion series now! Exciting stuff! Congratulations
