That would make sense, I have a wrangler where I can barely get my winter boots on a pedal, where my 01 f250 I could go line dancing in between the pedals.

My ‘19 super duty maintains much of this sentiment. BIG buttons for controlling things. I tow horses year round so it helps to be able to keep the gloves on.

The 250 is always what I think of as the luxury model, since it's just a difference of softer springs at that point. Either way, though, this sure was a work truck back before the 2015-era generations- unlike some options at the time.

Sounds about right. Most people who dont care or are just proud to own their vehicle and have their badge on everything are cool and humble either way. But some people are always trying to like overacheive. But honestly its always been the chevy and dodge guys that get the cocky, ford owners are always humble or even comedically self depricating when they arent even having actual issues or reliabilty problems. In my personal experience with vehicles ive been around most of my life, the 2 ford my parents owned. A windstar (i think it was) and a 2013 f150 have been the most reliable. The dodge durango they had had several issues overtime finally coming up to the caliper locking up ( which was its final issue that ended up totally the vehicle) and the monte carlo had so many front end issues but otherwise was solid with the buick motor, lots of rust. The cadillac had electrical issues.
New Chevy trucks are for guys who have a closet full of pairs of new balances. Old Chevy trucks are for the wannabe Luke Bryans of the world who say they wanna do it for Dale. Dodge owners ACTUALLY do it for Dale and shit a brick every time the revs hang a bit longer than usual wondering if this is the moment your transfer case shits itself. Ford guys are more generic than mine craft villagers but overall pretty chill people. Unless they're Mustang guys. Fuck those guys.

@@AK-lw2jw Yep, and Ambulances, smaller Fire trucks, tire crane trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, ect... I've seen them run two over sized Alternators (such as, in ambulances), the trans also has a side port to add a PTO, which can run all kinds of things hydraulically.... The 7.3 was an industrial powerhouse in it's day, mainly for the fact that it was so de-tuned that you couldn't break them.
They look dope with off road tires but I get what you mean. But you know what I can't stand. When people put 22 inch chrome rims on trucks like these. I've seen em on a few Excursions and a good handful of F150s, and Sequoia's
I'm pretty much with the all-terrain tires cause I do need to go on a variety of surfaces, but mostly street. They're a pretty good does-all, and if you don't want to *tear up* the ground when it's muddy under the ground cover, much gentler than 'mud' tires. (I like pickups well enough, but they really wouldn't be my choice when I don't actually need them for work. Being general handyperson often a wagon will do nicely but I've had times when it just has to be a pickup truck, and you *can* have fun with and in those. All terrains rated LT to carry things are the usual answer though. :)
My first truck (01 B3000 dual sport with the 5 speed) was only 2wd and it had those stupid tires. If it had road tires maybe it wouldn't have slipped off the road. Made sure the next truck had road tires.

I’m not a Ford guy, but these trucks were truly one of the best for your typical outdoor work. The 7.3 is a fantastic engine with rock solid dependability and very affordable these days for entry level workers in the lawn care, hauling ect fields
Not in the US so nothing regarding American Literature was really a thing for us, and since I went into engineering, what little I did have for literature was forgotten by my brain long ago, but I would also be super happy to learn more from him regarding maybe not American literature, but more broad philosophies like modernism, postmodernism and subjects the like, when RCR goes on "tangents" like that it gets really interesting really quick.

It has a coin holder because toll roads were only 40⍧. They used to be only 20⍧ but around 1998 they started jumping up and everyone was freaking out. (At least in the Illinois toll road/Chicago area. I believe in the early 2000's they jumped up to $1.50, then $3.50 and right now I have no idea what they are because I moved to Peoria.)
I used to drive my pickup and trailer to NYC for deliveries ...the tolls over the bridges got RIDICULUS. I won't do that anymore.....lots of crazy stories (survival stories) it is Gotham. Too old and wise to do that anymore.
I worked at the Indy Navistar plant were we built that Powerstroke. It was a black box product sold to Ford. The design and engineering was done by Navistar. Ford provided the performance and durability specs, Navistar provided a product that met those specs. That engine has a forged crank, billet roller cam, gear drive timing set and the early engines had forged rods. That engine will last a million miles or more. We had a celebration for a truck that went a million miles. Later engines went to powdered forged rods to save money. Go with the early forgings and marine cam and marine injectors and you've got a durable engine with decent power.

Boost pressure not spooling under “normal” conditions shows how underworked the engine is most of the time. Engines of the time had higher compression ratios. Modern Diesel engines drop the CR down to about 16:1 for low emissions and use boost from fancy VNT setups to build power when needed.
That is an aspect of the design that is not talked about enough. The engine is capable of ridiculous power with little money but at a cost. The newer rangers are getting impressive numbers, better than my 2000 expedition, but it would be dumb to actually own one.

I love the dichotomy at 12:17 of the F-250 with it's functional modifications barely visible, and then you have this roided up JK Wrangler that looks like it's spent the last seven years rolling from car show to car show as more and more JEGS magazine parts got added to it.
It's weird seeing one of these so clean. I've got a customer who comes to my estate sales in a really beaten up 00 F250 - the exterior is beat to shit, half of the dashboard is gone, and at least 2 cylinders are dead in the engine. But the dude still loads the thing up with all kinds of shit - table saws, CRT TVs, typewriters, vacuums, hi-fi equipment... he really uses the truck to its full potential, both inside and out. What's funny is, even though this one is in such better shape than his, just seeing the silhouette of it reminds me of him and makes me smile.

I'll never forget the professor who compiled all the readings himself and had a printshop make bound copies. So to get the "textbook" you had to personally hand him $50 in cash right there in class.

My 2005 F250 is paid off. I enjoy not having a payment so much. I love having a truck in a world we're a large SUV and a trailer can do the same thing.
Grandpa had a 1995 7.3 F350 farm truck. 5spd, with a hand built flatbed, carrying a welder-generator and about 800lbs of steel at all time. He had a 16k GVW plate on the truck, iirc. It whistled and whined all the time, because it was always under load to some extent. Had a vertical pipe on the passenger side. We used to pull big articulated 4x4 tractors out of the mud with it. First gear, 4L, lock in the hubs, and let it idle forward. The truck never once complained about any load it was given. It had a habit of kicking itself out of gear when parked, so grandpa would have to run after the damn thing as it rolled off toward the fertilizer tanks *again* for the tenth time this year and why does it keep doing that? I learned to drive on that monstrosity. I loved it. Grandpa sold it at 175k miles to a friend, who still uses it daily at 250k+. Dad had a 2003 7.3 with a chip in it. That was the most unreliable truck I've ever seen.
Agreed. I just bought a '99 7.3 F250 with the 6 speed manual transmission. Once I get above 35 MPH, I just leave it in overdrive. There is simply no need to downshift in order to accelerate.
I own a 2001 F250 7.3 4x4. Bought it with 140,000 miles for $14k in 2010. Now at 312,000, I've spent close to $12k in upgrades and repairs so I'm at $26k total so far which adds up to $6.61 per 1000 miles. Not including fuel. It works. It tows a trailer with my 14,000 lb tractor and attachments at least once a week. I have a base 2012 mustang with the v6 and manual that gets 30 plus mpg that I drive when I don't have to haul anything. No DEF. no emissions testing. No $80,000 new truck payment.

My dad has a 2000 f250 7.3 powerstroke and when you said pass out on the recliner watching the local news that was the most truthful thing I have ever heard lol
I almost choked when he said 28 mpg, I own a 99 model manual trans 7.3, once saw 25 mpg when driving on interstate for 300 miles at 45 mph following my brother who purchased a deuce from Gov liquidators. The engine was loafing. The second best was 19 mpg mixed, mostly 17 around town and 14 if towing. If you have the zf 6 speed manual be easy on the synchros and dont expect the original clutch to last 90000 miles, the springs in the clutch tend to break. If you do need a clutch be sure to replace the flywheel also, the dual mass factory flywheel needs to go to the scrap yard where it belongs. The front axle looks like a dana 60 but is a 50 with 44 guts mostly, the newer 2001 models i think and excursions had dana 60 which is stronger. I changed the transfer case to the manual shift because the knob on the dash just didnt cut it for me. I use the truck for work and drive an 08 corolla ce manual for everything else.
Same here. If I get 15 mpg, I'm happy as a clam! Mine gets 13 most of the time, whether I'm loaded to the gills or not. Granted, I have an injector on the way out and the truck has 310k miles.

Yep my 03 6.0 f350 fx4 lbcb gets17-19 mpg one time I squeezes 21.5 but I still don’t know how…..but I will say this…..my wife was pregnant and due over the weekend I was 4 1/2 hours away so most of the way I was driving 80 mph…still got 18 1/2 mpg….granted I’m deleted studded and tuned

My dad drives a 2000 ford F250, 2x4, but a V8 gas truck. 8 foot bed, one and a half cab (no clue what the technical term for it is). Used it as a contractor for 15 years, hauled everything, pulled trailers (both work ones and our old 2 axle toy hauler), 115,000 miles (not that many, worked mostly near us). Got it after someone else owned it for 2 weeks, some old lady rear ended the bumper and bent it back. He just pulled it forward lol. Only modification done on it was a new rear diff because he struggled getting going if there was anything other than clean tarmac on the ground. Also air suspension (or whatever the stuff you have to inflate is). If the wheel spins too quick, they both engage. Otherwise, pretty regular maintenance and a couple things. Rusted a lot, but still runs. Loud as a bus (as you guys said), hopefully I get it when I turn 17.
Man I love my 7.3L F250, granted it’s the 1996 OBS style with 394k miles, my classic diesel babe. Do I tow enough to need a turbo diesel? Not currently. Do I even use the bed? Actually almost daily. Do I need a big trucks? Probably not. Do I enjoy driving it? Absolutely! Working on this old rig has enabled me to help others on theirs and become a somewhat expert on them, I’m learning these things inside out and I just love it. My turbo sings to me, it is a beautiful song. Legitimately can’t wait to get my rig ready for towing, I don’t now but I sure wish to soon.

My dad has 2002 f350 with this engine. Great Truck, he bought it brand new. He uses it to pull a huge 5th wheeler camper. He also upgraded the turbo and I think transmission controller. I built and installed the turbo with him. I haven't driven it with the upgrades but it makes 400+hp with that kit. I dont think he ever plans on selling it, but I'd definitely buy it off of him in a heartbeat.

I was wondering about that too. I have a 7.3 turbo idi (Banks not OEM) that gets like 22 when I don't get past 55 but it always runs between 2-5 pounds of boost on the highway
I actually just bought a '99 7.3 F250 with a 6 speed manual transmission. I filled up the tank, then drove it 500 miles home. I kept it around 70-75 MPH and hit a one-hour traffic jam along the way. All said and done, the truck averaged around 19.5 MPG. Not bad for a 22-year-old dinosaur.
this is why i got a 6 speed. i dont think i could drive this truck without a manual, would be a pita. i am always towing so waiting for the auto to shift would bore me to death (99.5, zf6, bone stock)
If it makes ya feel any better the E4OD behind the 351w in my F150 somehow manages to shift itself faster then the ZF5 behind my 7.3 allows me to shift it... Gotta row them gears slooooowly to avoid being yelled at by the synchros, granted it's spent 90% of it's 400,000 miles dragging a car trailer around.
@@_Frank_the_Tank I dropped my ZF650, split the case and swapped the syncros. I'm not going to say it's not a project, but It's also not that hard to do if you have a simple press.
I have had an f250 7.3L 4wd crew cab many years towing multi horse trailers & dump bed utilities. My fuel mileage also took a fall from 23mpg down to 12-14. I had taken it to the local dealer when the turbo started screeching & needed to be replaced. After talking directly to the tech, I was told the computer was re-flashed with updated factory specs for this engine. He said it was required by ford & he had no way to put the old program back. After considerable phone time I finally found a diesel shop, 50+ miles away, that would sell me a chip tuned for economy & power. This was before the 'dial a program' chips were readily available. Best $100 ever spent on this truck. Running strong getting 22+ mpg ever since.
MAP sensor as well. Won't throw a code but will kill MPG. Also the metal tube that connects the EBPS to the manifold gets clogged and causes MPG to suffer as well.
I know this is said a lot but this was the golden era of diesels before the diesels got overly complicated and expensive with DEF and additional emissions equipment that would come in the late 2000s

Seriously !! Holy cow. My brother sold his 1 owner 1999 F350 dually, 4 door, 2wd 7.3 with (in perfect condition) with 130,000 miles for $6500. We still have the sticker for it. The truck was only $32,000 off the showroom
I used to drive a diesel F-550 of this same vintage with a dump body on the back for work. It truly sounds like a school bus and was beyond slow. I worked for a municipal public works department as a summer job throughout college and my main job was mowing the grass, trimming the weeds, and removing the trash from the yards of the many abandoned houses in my town. Our dump for all of the grass clippings, kudzu, syringes, and empty 40s of king cobra at the end of each day was at the end of this long uphill off road trail and I used to floor it the entire way up and try to pretend that it was a Baja Truck, but the thing was so slow that it was hard to make fun. Didn't stop me for trying everyday. My apologies to the taxpayers of (redacted blighted pennsylvania town) for hooning this work truck, but to be fair I was making minimum wage and should have been getting hazard pay. It was a functional work truck, but you'd have to pay me (a LOT) to drive a truck like this to like the grocery store. I truly don't get it.
I very satisfied with this review. I was in the diesel truck world for several years with a 6.0 Powerstroke and I really liked it. I constantly got to hear all about the 7.3 and how aweful the 6.0 was. My responce was always something about how gutless the 7.3s are. I drive them and pulled trailers with them. No comparision stock for stock to a 6.0 and tuned for tuned is an even bigger gap. I know the 6.0 gave some people trouble, Mine was a great truck for the 7 years and 240k miles I put on it. It did have its issues, but so did every vehicle I have ever owned. None of which I had to this mileage.
My friend bought one of these trucks last year for only $500. All it needed was a fuel flush and filter change along with a new pair of batteries. After realizing that he practically stole the thing, he went back to the seller and gave him $5,000. It's in great condition with low mileage and it was a single owner truck since new. Also needed a new PRNDL switch at the transmission. We replaced all the door lock actuators and the ignition lock cylinder. Over all, still a sweet deal

I owned a 7.3 for many years. It was used for work and towed either a dump trailer for construction debris or a landscaping trailer at least 3 days a week. All I can say is this is the most accurate car review I’ve ever seen/heard. I loved that truck, and think it’s probably the best truck I could have owned. 278k miles, original engine and trans. Besides brakes/oil/tires, I only ever had to replace one thing (glow plug relay). Can’t agree with the tow capacity issue, it would tow 15k pounds with little issue if any. Only truck I miss more was my 6.7 power stroke. But buying either, and not using it for work, is such a waste

Sounds about right. Most people who dont care or are just proud to own their vehicle and have their badge on everything are cool and humble either way. But some people are always trying to like overacheive. But honestly its always been the chevy and dodge guys that get the cocky, ford owners are always humble or even comedically self depricating when they arent even having actual issues or reliabilty problems. In my personal experience with vehicles ive been around most of my life, the 2 ford my parents owned. A windstar (i think it was) and a 2013 f150 have been the most reliable. The dodge durango they had had several issues overtime finally coming up to the caliper locking up ( which was its final issue that ended up totally the vehicle) and the monte carlo had so many front end issues but otherwise was solid with the buick motor, lots of rust. The cadillac had electrical issues.
New Chevy trucks are for guys who have a closet full of pairs of new balances. Old Chevy trucks are for the wannabe Luke Bryans of the world who say they wanna do it for Dale. Dodge owners ACTUALLY do it for Dale and shit a brick every time the revs hang a bit longer than usual wondering if this is the moment your transfer case shits itself. Ford guys are more generic than mine craft villagers but overall pretty chill people. Unless they're Mustang guys. Fuck those guys.

@@AK-lw2jw Yep, and Ambulances, smaller Fire trucks, tire crane trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, ect... I've seen them run two over sized Alternators (such as, in ambulances), the trans also has a side port to add a PTO, which can run all kinds of things hydraulically.... The 7.3 was an industrial powerhouse in it's day, mainly for the fact that it was so de-tuned that you couldn't break them.

All terrain tires are the best mix if you ask me
I'm pretty much with the all-terrain tires cause I do need to go on a variety of surfaces, but mostly street. They're a pretty good does-all, and if you don't want to *tear up* the ground when it's muddy under the ground cover, much gentler than 'mud' tires. (I like pickups well enough, but they really wouldn't be my choice when I don't actually need them for work. Being general handyperson often a wagon will do nicely but I've had times when it just has to be a pickup truck, and you *can* have fun with and in those. All terrains rated LT to carry things are the usual answer though. :)
My first truck (01 B3000 dual sport with the 5 speed) was only 2wd and it had those stupid tires. If it had road tires maybe it wouldn't have slipped off the road. Made sure the next truck had road tires.

I’m not a Ford guy, but these trucks were truly one of the best for your typical outdoor work. The 7.3 is a fantastic engine with rock solid dependability and very affordable these days for entry level workers in the lawn care, hauling ect fields

Not in the US so nothing regarding American Literature was really a thing for us, and since I went into engineering, what little I did have for literature was forgotten by my brain long ago, but I would also be super happy to learn more from him regarding maybe not American literature, but more broad philosophies like modernism, postmodernism and subjects the like, when RCR goes on "tangents" like that it gets really interesting really quick.

Haha. One of the mechanics at my work has one. It’s a gasser crew cab long box.. and it literally no longer has fenders. Just huge kindergarten-style jagged wheel arches that nearly extend to the top of the box and the fuel filler.

The frame isn't the problem on this generation of F250. The problem is the bed rails, rocker panels and cab corners.
It has a coin holder because toll roads were only 40⍧. They used to be only 20⍧ but around 1998 they started jumping up and everyone was freaking out.
(At least in the Illinois toll road/Chicago area. I believe in the early 2000's they jumped up to $1.50, then $3.50 and right now I have no idea what they are because I moved to Peoria.)
Went to Philadelphia for work trip and encountered a 40 dollar toll road.....I could not believe it.

I used to drive my pickup and trailer to NYC for deliveries ...the tolls over the bridges got RIDICULUS. I won't do that anymore.....lots of crazy stories (survival stories) it is Gotham. Too old and wise to do that anymore.
I worked at the Indy Navistar plant were we built that Powerstroke. It was a black box product sold to Ford. The design and engineering was done by Navistar. Ford provided the performance and durability specs, Navistar provided a product that met those specs. That engine has a forged crank, billet roller cam, gear drive timing set and the early engines had forged rods. That engine will last a million miles or more. We had a celebration for a truck that went a million miles.
Later engines went to powdered forged rods to save money. Go with the early forgings and marine cam and marine injectors and you've got a durable engine with decent power.
What years would be considered early?

We can get factual car reviews from anybody. But Mr Regular talks about more than just the car, which makes sense after all cars have become a lot more than just transportation for most people.

One of my favorite engines! Doesn't take much to wake them up and extremely easy yet fairly cheap to work on once you understand the engine!
Boost pressure not spooling under “normal” conditions shows how underworked the engine is most of the time.
Engines of the time had higher compression ratios. Modern Diesel engines drop the CR down to about 16:1 for low emissions and use boost from fancy VNT setups to build power when needed.
That is an aspect of the design that is not talked about enough. The engine is capable of ridiculous power with little money but at a cost. The newer rangers are getting impressive numbers, better than my 2000 expedition, but it would be dumb to actually own one.

The moment I seen the high vis shirt I knew he did lawncare. Almost every single truck like this in my town is pulling a trailer full of 12,000 dollar zero turns. While their is one Isuzu box truck that was turned into a flatbed to haul mowers and stuff.

It's weird seeing one of these so clean. I've got a customer who comes to my estate sales in a really beaten up 00 F250 - the exterior is beat to shit, half of the dashboard is gone, and at least 2 cylinders are dead in the engine. But the dude still loads the thing up with all kinds of shit - table saws, CRT TVs, typewriters, vacuums, hi-fi equipment... he really uses the truck to its full potential, both inside and out. What's funny is, even though this one is in such better shape than his, just seeing the silhouette of it reminds me of him and makes me smile.
I just bought mine. 136,000 miles, not a scratch inside or out. Love it.

My 2005 F250 is paid off. I enjoy not having a payment so much. I love having a truck in a world we're a large SUV and a trailer can do the same thing.
Grandpa had a 1995 7.3 F350 farm truck. 5spd, with a hand built flatbed, carrying a welder-generator and about 800lbs of steel at all time. He had a 16k GVW plate on the truck, iirc. It whistled and whined all the time, because it was always under load to some extent. Had a vertical pipe on the passenger side.
We used to pull big articulated 4x4 tractors out of the mud with it. First gear, 4L, lock in the hubs, and let it idle forward. The truck never once complained about any load it was given. It had a habit of kicking itself out of gear when parked, so grandpa would have to run after the damn thing as it rolled off toward the fertilizer tanks *again* for the tenth time this year and why does it keep doing that?
I learned to drive on that monstrosity. I loved it. Grandpa sold it at 175k miles to a friend, who still uses it daily at 250k+.
Dad had a 2003 7.3 with a chip in it. That was the most unreliable truck I've ever seen.

Agreed. I just bought a '99 7.3 F250 with the 6 speed manual transmission. Once I get above 35 MPH, I just leave it in overdrive. There is simply no need to downshift in order to accelerate.

I own a 2001 F250 7.3 4x4. Bought it with 140,000 miles for $14k in 2010. Now at 312,000, I've spent close to $12k in upgrades and repairs so I'm at $26k total so far which adds up to $6.61 per 1000 miles. Not including fuel. It works. It tows a trailer with my 14,000 lb tractor and attachments at least once a week. I have a base 2012 mustang with the v6 and manual that gets 30 plus mpg that I drive when I don't have to haul anything. No DEF. no emissions testing. No $80,000 new truck payment.

I almost choked when he said 28 mpg, I own a 99 model manual trans 7.3, once saw 25 mpg when driving on interstate for 300 miles at 45 mph following my brother who purchased a deuce from Gov liquidators. The engine was loafing. The second best was 19 mpg mixed, mostly 17 around town and 14 if towing. If you have the zf 6 speed manual be easy on the synchros and dont expect the original clutch to last 90000 miles, the springs in the clutch tend to break. If you do need a clutch be sure to replace the flywheel also, the dual mass factory flywheel needs to go to the scrap yard where it belongs. The front axle looks like a dana 60 but is a 50 with 44 guts mostly, the newer 2001 models i think and excursions had dana 60 which is stronger. I changed the transfer case to the manual shift because the knob on the dash just didnt cut it for me. I use the truck for work and drive an 08 corolla ce manual for everything else.

Same here. If I get 15 mpg, I'm happy as a clam! Mine gets 13 most of the time, whether I'm loaded to the gills or not. Granted, I have an injector on the way out and the truck has 310k miles.

Yep my 03 6.0 f350 fx4 lbcb gets17-19 mpg one time I squeezes 21.5 but I still don’t know how…..but I will say this…..my wife was pregnant and due over the weekend I was 4 1/2 hours away so most of the way I was driving 80 mph…still got 18 1/2 mpg….granted I’m deleted studded and tuned

That thing was truly horrendous.
My dad drives a 2000 ford F250, 2x4, but a V8 gas truck. 8 foot bed, one and a half cab (no clue what the technical term for it is). Used it as a contractor for 15 years, hauled everything, pulled trailers (both work ones and our old 2 axle toy hauler), 115,000 miles (not that many, worked mostly near us). Got it after someone else owned it for 2 weeks, some old lady rear ended the bumper and bent it back. He just pulled it forward lol. Only modification done on it was a new rear diff because he struggled getting going if there was anything other than clean tarmac on the ground. Also air suspension (or whatever the stuff you have to inflate is). If the wheel spins too quick, they both engage. Otherwise, pretty regular maintenance and a couple things. Rusted a lot, but still runs. Loud as a bus (as you guys said), hopefully I get it when I turn 17.
Man I love my 7.3L F250, granted it’s the 1996 OBS style with 394k miles, my classic diesel babe. Do I tow enough to need a turbo diesel? Not currently. Do I even use the bed? Actually almost daily. Do I need a big trucks? Probably not. Do I enjoy driving it? Absolutely! Working on this old rig has enabled me to help others on theirs and become a somewhat expert on them, I’m learning these things inside out and I just love it. My turbo sings to me, it is a beautiful song.
Legitimately can’t wait to get my rig ready for towing, I don’t now but I sure wish to soon.

My dad has 2002 f350 with this engine. Great Truck, he bought it brand new. He uses it to pull a huge 5th wheeler camper.
He also upgraded the turbo and I think transmission controller. I built and installed the turbo with him. I haven't driven it with the upgrades but it makes 400+hp with that kit. I dont think he ever plans on selling it, but I'd definitely buy it off of him in a heartbeat.

Ok so the years I’ve been watching this channel I always thought there was about 3 people doing the voices and commenting on different videos. Watching this guy do all of them in a few seconds shattered my reality to a point of no return.
7.3s can get mid to high teens for mileage. In no version of the timeline do they get 28mpg.
I was wondering about that too. I have a 7.3 turbo idi (Banks not OEM) that gets like 22 when I don't get past 55 but it always runs between 2-5 pounds of boost on the highway
I actually just bought a '99 7.3 F250 with a 6 speed manual transmission. I filled up the tank, then drove it 500 miles home. I kept it around 70-75 MPH and hit a one-hour traffic jam along the way. All said and done, the truck averaged around 19.5 MPG. Not bad for a 22-year-old dinosaur.
I’ve heard of N/A IDI’s getting low 20s for years m, albeit unloaded, on flat ground and usually with a taller rear gear.
A regular cab 2wd with, straight pipe, air filter, and an economy tune. Maybe some fuel additive too. I think it's possible, 25 sounds more realistic
I’d almost guess this truck is having turbo issues if that boost gauge is correct. Could be the economy issue he’s seeing.
The only thing slower than my 1996 powerstroke is how slow the E40D transmission shifts
this is why i got a 6 speed. i dont think i could drive this truck without a manual, would be a pita. i am always towing so waiting for the auto to shift would bore me to death (99.5, zf6, bone stock)

If it makes ya feel any better the E4OD behind the 351w in my F150 somehow manages to shift itself faster then the ZF5 behind my 7.3 allows me to shift it... Gotta row them gears slooooowly to avoid being yelled at by the synchros, granted it's spent 90% of it's 400,000 miles dragging a car trailer around.

@@_Frank_the_Tank I dropped my ZF650, split the case and swapped the syncros. I'm not going to say it's not a project, but It's also not that hard to do if you have a simple press.

I have had an f250 7.3L 4wd crew cab many years towing multi horse trailers & dump bed utilities. My fuel mileage also took a fall from 23mpg down to 12-14. I had taken it to the local dealer when the turbo started screeching & needed to be replaced. After talking directly to the tech, I was told the computer was re-flashed with updated factory specs for this engine. He said it was required by ford & he had no way to put the old program back. After considerable phone time I finally found a diesel shop, 50+ miles away, that would sell me a chip tuned for economy & power. This was before the 'dial a program' chips were readily available. Best $100 ever spent on this truck. Running strong getting 22+ mpg ever since.
A really simple thing that could be causing the mpg drop is a fuel leak. I had one that took months to find

a few leaks, like fuel necks and fuel bowl area, etc.
MAP sensor as well. Won't throw a code but will kill MPG. Also the metal tube that connects the EBPS to the manifold gets clogged and causes MPG to suffer as well.

Your whole point from like 10:00-15:00 about truck owners only using their truck features is the exact reason the Maverick is going to be a HUGE success. It can do the truck stuff in the scope of reality that is what trucks actually get used for.

I just drove across the country and bought an 02’ F350 dually with 76k miles for $38,000. It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever bought.
Seriously !! Holy cow. My brother sold his 1 owner 1999 F350 dually, 4 door, 2wd 7.3 with (in perfect condition) with 130,000 miles for $6500. We still have the sticker for it. The truck was only $32,000 off the showroom

I used to drive a diesel F-550 of this same vintage with a dump body on the back for work. It truly sounds like a school bus and was beyond slow. I worked for a municipal public works department as a summer job throughout college and my main job was mowing the grass, trimming the weeds, and removing the trash from the yards of the many abandoned houses in my town. Our dump for all of the grass clippings, kudzu, syringes, and empty 40s of king cobra at the end of each day was at the end of this long uphill off road trail and I used to floor it the entire way up and try to pretend that it was a Baja Truck, but the thing was so slow that it was hard to make fun. Didn't stop me for trying everyday. My apologies to the taxpayers of (redacted blighted pennsylvania town) for hooning this work truck, but to be fair I was making minimum wage and should have been getting hazard pay.
It was a functional work truck, but you'd have to pay me (a LOT) to drive a truck like this to like the grocery store. I truly don't get it.

I very satisfied with this review. I was in the diesel truck world for several years with a 6.0 Powerstroke and I really liked it. I constantly got to hear all about the 7.3 and how aweful the 6.0 was. My responce was always something about how gutless the 7.3s are. I drive them and pulled trailers with them. No comparision stock for stock to a 6.0 and tuned for tuned is an even bigger gap. I know the 6.0 gave some people trouble, Mine was a great truck for the 7 years and 240k miles I put on it. It did have its issues, but so did every vehicle I have ever owned. None of which I had to this mileage.
My friend bought one of these trucks last year for only $500. All it needed was a fuel flush and filter change along with a new pair of batteries. After realizing that he practically stole the thing, he went back to the seller and gave him $5,000.
It's in great condition with low mileage and it was a single owner truck since new. Also needed a new PRNDL switch at the transmission. We replaced all the door lock actuators and the ignition lock cylinder.
Over all, still a sweet deal

@@musewolfman i mainly speak from experience of my father. He owned F-Series trucks for 31 years straight and always gave his jobs 110%. Even when he was in the military he never half assed. Also his F-350 Power Stroke took a shit before his back did

I owned a 7.3 for many years. It was used for work and towed either a dump trailer for construction debris or a landscaping trailer at least 3 days a week. All I can say is this is the most accurate car review I’ve ever seen/heard. I loved that truck, and think it’s probably the best truck I could have owned. 278k miles, original engine and trans. Besides brakes/oil/tires, I only ever had to replace one thing (glow plug relay). Can’t agree with the tow capacity issue, it would tow 15k pounds with little issue if any. Only truck I miss more was my 6.7 power stroke. But buying either, and not using it for work, is such a waste
