I think that's what Jimmy Hendrix said the one time he played the acoustic and everyone jaws dropped (and still are) on the floor somewhere in that club. And yes there is footage of it somewhere and it *sounds* like an electric with bends and all. Wizard.
I've been jamming through this guy's entire available catalogue for the past few hours and I have to say now, without a doubt, I feel like he's best with nothing but a guitar and a microphone - I am for sure a fan now, either way - and he is a fantastic electric guitar player there is absolutely no doubt about it - his soloing on the electric stuff is always top tier and innovative (ex. his allman bros solo w soullive and john scofield) but at a certain point it just becomes more of an exercise in hearing variations on a single musical premise than enjoying where it's going or what it's making you feel - There's more than just blues, rock, and blues-rock in there. He's got more to explore in there creatively - I wonder what he's listening to right now - If I were to give him a pre-record mixtape of vibes I'd want him to absorb, not songs to cover, but thematic and tonal directions I think he might want to explore, it would include tUnE-yArDs - Whokill Caetano Veloso - Transa Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine Tom Waits - swordfishtrombones Interpol - Antics Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots If I were producing him, or just smoking weed in the back of the studio, I'd prefer to let his voice do more instrumentation - blend it into some interesting open chords - get him a looping pedal to practice layering vocals and instruments when he's writing new material - drift a bit from his wheelhouse (traditional rocky bluesy guitar-heavy choices) - maybe pick up a few unexpected covers - I'd be interested in hearing his take on Judee Sill - The Lamb Ran Away with the Crown Gram Parsons - A Song for You Nick Drake - Place To Be The Magnetic Fields - All My Little Words What it comes down to, for me, is longevity, for a musician - and his real artistic currency - what he brings to the table after the meal is eaten - is an interesting and personalized vocal take over his own interesting and innovative guitar phrasing - it is a consistently winning arrangement. He's got more to explore in there creatively - I wonder what he's listening to right now - If I were to give him a pre-record mixtape of vibes I'd want him to absorb, not songs to cover, but thematic and tonal directions I think he might want to explore, it would include
tUnE-yArDs - Whokill
Caetano Veloso - Transa
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine
Tom Waits - swordfishtrombones
Interpol - Antics
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
If I were producing him, or just smoking weed in the back of the studio, I'd prefer to let his voice do more instrumentation - blend it into some interesting open chords - get him a looping pedal to practice layering vocals and instruments when he's writing new material - drift a bit from his wheelhouse (traditional rocky bluesy guitar-heavy choices) - maybe pick up a few unexpected covers - I'd be interested in hearing his take on
Judee Sill - The Lamb Ran Away with the Crown
Gram Parsons - A Song for You
Nick Drake - Place To Be
The Magnetic Fields - All My Little Words
What it comes down to, for me, is longevity, for a musician - and his real artistic currency - what he brings to the table after the meal is eaten - is an interesting and personalized vocal take over his own interesting and innovative guitar phrasing - it is a consistently winning arrangement. Now to just take that simple premise and build upon it with diverse and elevated inspiration. Pick up some new vibes, lay down some old ones. To the vinyl! We record at dawn.

One of the best voices in the world today.
I think I have listened to 10 hours of Marcus in the last week alone. So good.
This kid is INSANE!! Reminds me alot of Chris Stapleton. Outstanding
I love him. He is one of the singer songwriter guys that's coming up that blows me away.
Great singer? Absolutely. Great guitar player? HELL YES.
Nothing contrived here. Raw Talent. The real deal unencumbered by enhancement.
Theres more tallent in the crud on his fretboard, than in most music released today!
pure.
Wow, just wow! I think he needs to do more acoustic arrangements. I love all his other music too but this setting seems to suit him even better.
Brent Edger You are so right.
Absolutely. This is most definitely his best setting just a guy with his guitar. You can hear passion and pain
Introduced to this guy by another amazing gentleman who will forever have my heart. Whenever I hear this man sing, brings all the wonderful conversations & memories flooding back with a poignant smile & a ‘what if’ . Forever my heart PJ.
This guy is the real thing! Amazing talent! He is gonna be HUGE real soon. Real soon.
Don't count on it. Pop music won't allow real talent to make it big anymore.
he's already huge among people who know whats up
“Takin a break from writing..”.
Wow. What a vision, what a songwriter, what a musician. Not many people make me feel what they feel coming from their instrument or voice. I’m telling ya, kid…I was bawling.
Once you hear him, you don't forget!!!!!
Markus King, Don't know where u came from, but u r very real, compelling. U drew me in right away. Ur blues have lots of soul, just the way it should b. Best 2 u in music, u r an original.
Little ol Greenville SC..... Drummer is from Little ol CLEMSON....Good things going on in SC
I put in my second headphone when he started playing.
You are the very best soul.singer I have ever heard. In my eyes you are right close to the Queen herself....Ms. Janis Joplin. I am.an instant lover of your voice. You truly feel every word of your music or the song you are singing🙌🙌🙌🙌
8am lends itself really well to this acoustic version! Would love to hear an acoustic album one day. So glad this guy is keeping good music alive!
Yeah Bubba this dude is my new favorite cat man!
just stumbled onto him an hour ago. that second solo in the song 'homesick' @(4:20) just knocked my ding in the dirt, so I started to pay attention. wow huh!
And his voice is like Gregg Allman meets Paul Rodgers to boot! fucking awesome right on Marcus Almighty!
Saw him first on Norman's Rare Guitars RUclips Channel. Awesome artist.
What a new generation! Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, and him.
First ten seconds, already new fan, and already liking his guitar playing.
