Gotta keep that amp cool, in the Southern Heat ;) It's one of those situations where the hard hitting drummer is struggling to be heard over the awesome wall of guitar. This trio reminds me of the Jimi Henrix Experience - except Marcus is a _much_ better singer. And it's very possible he could someday even be a greater guitarist than Jimi, he's already definitely one of the current upcoming greats.
Folk's that is Grand Funk Railroad (who should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!) Thanks Marcus & boys for taking me back 50 Years! These guys can cover anything...
Amen brother..Mark Farmer is grand funk..the current brewer led funk is a cover band…I’ve heard Marks religious beliefs have kept them out of the hall of shame…and don’t get me going on rappers in a rock hall of fame!
That guitar is sold now. It was one of the most expensive retail in the country. It's had sooo many people play it. It's greeny but very small amount due to the year..as I've head and followed. I want anyone who know or asks and has more info, let me know.
Now we know why GRAND FUNK RAILROAD was the biggest loudest rock band in the world in 1970 - 1971 - and 1972! Bands like Humble Pie and Black Sabbath opened for them. Grand Funk even blowing Led Zepplin off the stage at one point and selling out shea stadium in 1971. Great Job Guys
This was siiiiiiiiiick. Credit to MK for not stopping and looking at the pricetag and freaking the fuck out. Also, that drummer deserves to be applauded. Wicked good.
when someone hands you a burst, you play it like you might never see one again. i don't make the rules. just promise me if you ever pick one up you'll play it like it's mean to be played.
Got to see him in a dive club in Harrisburg, PA just before covid hit. Small venue, got right up front. EXCELLENT show. Hoping I can score another small venue show with Marcus before they lock us down again.
I ride my bike 10 to 15 miles a day listening to Grand Funk all the time and this is the best cover I've ever heard my entire life it moves me it grooves me
Let's all just take a minute to appreciate how solid this trio is! That was so damn good! Got chills, enjoyed every second of it. Well played boys, bravo.
Marcus King brings me right back to the sheer excitement of when I got up my first Strat. Growing up as a teenager in the 90s in Ireland watching old videos of Jimi Hendrix, Mountain, Thin Lizzy, Joe Cocker & Black Sabbath perfomances on repeat. And learning to play Rory Gallagher tracks with friends. Then J Mascis, Kevin Shields & Thurston Moorer kicked me in the earholes, and I kind of forgot the blues a bit. But thanks for the reminder Mr. King!
Grand Funk is one of my all time favorite bands.. they were far more influential than they get credit for.. but Marcus and the boys carried that torch like few could.. Kudos brothers.. completely badass
I really hope Marcus keeps doing the trio. Sounds so much better than the original band. Really glad he keep the drummer and bass player, those guys are great musicians
These guys are one of the tightest bands that I have ever heard in my life. The drummer was lock step all the way with Marcus King's soloing. The bassist was perfect in sync with the drummer. Awesome job, young guns!!
66 years old and I'd thought great music was a thing of the past. Sure there's great stuff coming out, but years ago when I believe Marcus King was 13 or so. I heard him play then and knew if he stuck with it he'd be able to become one of the greats. Well 20+ years later and he's been involved with every kind of music known to man. And his guitars are like and extension of his arms. There's nothing he can't play and very well done. The songs he's written as a young adult would make you think he was another great reincarnated. The man has what it takes. I guess some of these city kids get home from school and the game boy or TV is the babysitter. He had his Dads old vinyl records and a guitar to keep him company.
Dang I love this kid, it’s everything I am a music fan of fro 60’ to now… He is the now. The kid blows me away. Close your eyes and tell me you couldn’t hear Chris Cornell in them lyrics, and sabbath in them riffs, Hendrix, Almon bros, all those classic rock licks in the solos, it’s all there. The kids got it. Got IT….
Since this song was release in '69, I'd say Grand Funk Railroad probably influenced the ones you referenced that came after. He really nails it though, this is a fantastic version.
He’s nailing it this king character : but when I look at Farner’s rendition nothing can top it The height of a man singing his soul out and nailing rock guitar. That guitar tone on that album is so fucking gnarly
I remember buying the Grand Funk album Closer to Home in summer 1970. This was the first track. When I heard that guitar it was like Gods finger striking you. Electrical. Mark Farmer, so underrated as a guitar player. He is truly classic rock guitar God. This is a great homage to the great Mark Farmer.

Criminally underrated too

I've never heard any band do a cover of this Grand Funk song. EXCELLENT!
Govt mule has done it live in the past. I think there’s videos here on RUclips of it
Yeah hence why Marcus played it…. Govt mule ripped this one on deep end album vol1
Marcus will cover about anything. Based on what I’ve heard from him and his band nothings too big.
Several bands have covered this.

I hear a little of Chris Cornell in his voice.
I definitely hear what your hearing.
people had gritty voices before Cornell...
@@emeryfry2808: that is a true statement. But at that moment I heard Chris Cornell’s voice. That’s all no more no less.
