People moaning about how there's no new great artists out there just aren't looking hard enough. Turn off the top 40 radio, put away your mainstream music mags and start digging! There are some straight up geniuses keeping the blues, soul and even hip-hop alive! I am loving this sound, a collaboration of blues and jazz transitioning seamlessly throughout each song. The talent these guys show at such young ages make me furious with my life choices!
Yeah their points are always missing a key word. Mainstream music. If you dig deep there is plenty of amazing shit around, maybe more so than ever before.
I hear you brother.... at the crossroads of my life I bowed to the pressure of the family life (not that there's anything wrong with that) BUT if only i'd followed my true passion... music .... sigh... 30 years later and I'm going to see this young genius tonight in Sydney... woot! can't wait... If i didn't live the dream myself, I can sure bask in the light of people that are.. yes, you have to dig... but the treasures you can find are endless... and Marcus is one of them...
I’m a rock n’ roller but there is a tone of raw outlaw country and fantastic bluegrass that is swept aside too. Tyler Childers and Colter Wall for country and Mandolin Orange in bluegrass are just a few worth checking out. I think Chris Stapleton is mainstream enough now

Holy shit, I just stumbled on this and while I was waiting for the song to start I thought, yeah, yeah, another kid (21 at the time of this video) wannabe blues artist - maybe another SRV clone or something... but YIKES! Tasty mature guitar right off the bat, a soulful voice, and a mature songwriting style, with R&B and soul influences. He's like a 40 year old seasoned artist in a 21 year old's body. Hearing his voice was like the first time hearing Johnny Lang - waaayyy beyond his years. He's the genuine article.
I saw him last night at Madison Square Garden opening for Chris Stapleton. He is amazing. I am looking up all the music I can find of him playing. Love his voice and soul vibe.
the guitar run at 19:48 is fucking breathtaking , jawdropping, tears in my eyes grateful for this kid !! !!! the future of great soul-grabbing music is secure
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the greatness the bassist is delivering throughout that last track! This whole thing is pure gold, every aspect is superb, including the mix. What a great band.
Got to see this band live. Markus king band, is bad to the bone! This kid can sing and play like no ones business. Got tickets to do it again soon. If you have a chance go see them. Incredible.
Of the 44 acts I saw at Byron Bay Bluesfest these guys were the stand out for me as far as great songwriting, soulful vocals and emotional guitar soloing. I can't believe how mature they sound for such young fellas. They could very well become my new favorite band. Such a shame they sold out of CDs at Bluesfest. I have to get my hands on their CDs ASAP. Oh and the drummer did the most awesome drum solo, blowing away all other drummers at the festival.
My friend has an extra ticket for tonight at the Beacon theater in NYC, Row A. Never heard of him and not the biggest fan of blues/country but holy shit.... he and his band are amazing. I feel so lucky to be able to see this young man tonight. My dad says hes a future legend. I see why. I cant wait to witness this. And Dexter is my favorite show, love how that inspired the first song he plays. Poor Rita...
love the voice. I could write 10 song against just the first song. It is the inspiration of the tones, and variances and where you could take it the vocal expressions. And that band is kickin.
Here's a great example of Marcus's song-writing talents. I take it that you are a song-writer yourself Darryl. I'd love to hear your stuff! In this video, Marcus talks about some of his experiences in writing his big hit "Goodbye Carolina" I just LOVE this version of the tune. Better than the "album version" Hope you dig it. ruclips.net/video/zPSPwak1O20/видео.html @ 10:00 minutes into ~~~~ Beautiful song!
@@kenmurphy6792 I will check that out. Thanks. Yes, I have been writing songs for the past 2 years. I just got a band together to perform them. We are getting great reviews from all of our stuff. Mostly southern, country, blues. I got about 350 songs to work with so far and counting..:).
This is one of the most unbelievable performances that I've ever witnessed. Marcus King. He IS a master of his craft and what an ambassador! Proud to know him and to be a small part of his success!
He used to practice at my recording studio downtown Greenville when he was 14, 15, 16 years old. My nephew played piano and we let them rehearse after hours while they were getting started. He was a savant. I knew where he was headed. And he's only just getting his feet wet. He has an amazing future ahead of him.@@Steepways.chadwick
Marcus King - reminds me of Van the Man. He has something special, also has Gospel roots, has the Blues feel, consummate musician, plays with horns, can arrange, lets the band go for it...
This was my first time hearing Marcus. I sat up straight as soon as I heard the first vocal note. Wow, what a combo this guy is! Keep it up, brother! Signed, A fellow son of SC
Damn... they are tight! 100% in sync with each other... WOW! Marcus' voice is very similar to Chris Stapleton... husky and full of life. Let's get them on tour together.
I was astounded when he started singing. Awesome. Very cool sound, band, vocals - he's waaaaay too good for a major label or the radio, so let's support him directly - thank goodness for the internet.
Heard good things about this guy, thought I'd check out a video. Holy. Shit. That noise comes out of that guy? What a voice, what a player. Off into the RUclips wormhole I go to listen to everything I can find.
Another legendary King in the making. Ranks right up there with them all! B.B. FREDDY, ALBERT, AND EARL! Even that unforgettable voice that sticks with u for the rest of your life. It brings back all the good memories from the good old days when things were simple and free. Like an old long lost friend. Comforting while embraceable at the same time. It'll bring u up when ur down😎🎸
Beautiful music! I'm so envious of his voice!! And then of course he is incredible at guitar! Some people are just too talented... Share a little eh bro? 😉
Fav active artist. Humble, Confident; Capable and Willing to give His and the Bands best each show. Been to one live show at Knucle Heads. Best show I've been to yet.

Wow! So glad I clicked this.
Wow. What a pleasant surprise to discover this band / video!
Each of these cats are beyond talented to begin with, but dude on the Bass is just killin it!
Marcus King - reminds me of Van the Man. He has something special, also has Gospel roots, has the Blues feel, consummate musician, plays with horns, can arrange, lets the band go for it...
For me he sometimes fills the void that Greg Allman left.
Wow now you say it. Never could put my finger on it. Van deff has a stronger voice but hey, I'm a biased lifetime fan, I have no right to speak.
One of a kind, hard to find such talent of synchronicity with a soulful voice, LOVE IT!
You Tube must incorporate love button!!💙
This song has such a light-hearted soul feeling of the early 1970s.
lots of Chicago feeling in this! Very good band!
I also stumbled upon this video. Fantastic and very tasteful music. I'm a fan.
I’m a simple man... I see Marcus King and I click.
