@@incomeGlitch There's a good video, I believe by Reverb where they discuss some of their influences. Mark gets into some of the sources of his "sorcery"
Pretty sure he's using what's called a "loop station," which, is pretty much exactly as it sounds, and as you said: Asi in, he'll play the rhythm, then hit a bittn that "loops"/ repeats it over and over while he plays "lead" on top. It's quite a nifty device. But he still plays "all the parts.." He's an awesome guitarist for sure.
It’s strange what music can do. My father passed away about 6 months ago, and I’ve just been battling to get back to the person I am, or was - or whatever. I’ve only discovered their music maybe a few weeks ago(?), and their music has given me this momentum and drive that I once had. That’s just me, but I love their sound. Life rules.
Sorry to hear. I was also in a very low place when I found out about Khruangbin. As cheesy as it sounds, their music has helped me for quite some time as it is familiar, soothing, and calming. I hope it can continue to do that for you too!
They’re music has made such an impact on my mental too, I was blessed to see them live I was so stoked! Stay positive I wish you so much light and happiness!
i am sorry for your loss❤️ i find the power of music to be something so incredible... how hearing something can make u feel some type of healing ?? i love it!! wishing u peace
That's not a criticism... it's not like there's only one way to play piano. "I Feel The Earth Move" was also played like a drummer, and it's great too.
Everything about the bass player blows my mind, from her look, to the skill, the look to the drummer to remain in sync and the smile when they nail it, wow.
What if I told you that the Drummer and Lead guitarist played with me at my church for over 10 years? 😂 true story. The drummer is actually a dope bass player and keyboard player. And Mark on lead, is actually dope on bass too
Everybody's talking about the drummer, am I the only one who thinks the guitar is just incredible?!? The soul of the band, magic sound that the drums and bass accompanied very well, but the guitar it's the master piece of the band.
The songs seem simple but the guitarist is putting in WORK. So many little fills right smack dab in the middle of the rhythm. You are not mistaken, friend.
Reason everyone mentions the drummer is because he is stunningly subtle. So many other do not have the skill & or patience to do job he’s there to do….keeping rock solid time!
Don't you guys pass on the guitarist. He is godly fast, and on the pedal syncing it all. If you ever used to play, tried learning how to play guitar, or just looked into starting, you would know he is insanely good at it. Also cheers for swinging the tunes from West to middle-east just like that. That's very cool imho. Khruangbin is on a different level altogether!
Even though the musicianship is top notch, the music is simple and tasty. I love the fact these guys don't feel the need to constantly show off. They just play for the song, I feel like this complements their retro vibe
Yes. You can have high-grade musicianship without being a virtuoso or having the slightest impulse of showing off constantly. I think the latter is in inverse relation to musicianship.
Not sure people realise how crazy awesome is this guitar. Looks simple at first glance but man he is so subtle in his rhythm, and all those thrills and phrasing are really on point. Cannot get enough of this performance.
You said it. He is playing rhythm and lead parts seamlessly. It reminds me that your brain fills in the spots for you kinda like those eye tricks where you look at a black and white photograph and it switches to color only in your mind...
Making the divine and intricate look and sound so effortlessly beautiful. Also, the drummer's timing has perfectly synchronized my schedule and realigned my spine.

Exactly
Uptown Saturday Night with Kevin Hart & Chadwick Boseman
The drummer is literally ticking away the moments that make up a dull day and turning it into the best day.
LOLOLOL
Ayy Pink Floyd!
...and then one day you'll find, ten years have got behind you...
…but he def didn’t miss the starting gun
I came back three years later and the drummer is still on time!
First comment to make me laugh out of all these.
The drummer is DJ Johnson, and in case you didn't already know this, time, as a fundamental operating law of the universe was created along with the entirety of existence itself, merely as a means to have something to explain his impeccable timing.
doesn’t matter how chill this sounds, this guy shreds
Absolutely, Mark Speer plays at an extremely technical level.
I mean every song is in the pentatonic scale. He's not that technical. Smooth but not technical
@@DarkBeatVisuals but that 'smoothness ' is in itself technical.beautiful sound and execution.
@@DarkBeatVisuals erm, the very first song makes extensive use of harmonic minor b5...
@@DarkBeatVisuals Sorry but this is dumb. Sticking to pentatonics has nothing to do with the skill in which be intonates and plays. That is honestly a criticism for the sake of it. You sir are a contrarian.
Mark does such an awesome job playing both lead and rhythm guitar at the same time.
Seriously. That is very impressive 👍🏼🔥
“comping himself”
The more I see DJ drumming the more I think that man has some sort of cosmic awareness, like he’s fully aware of the position of every planet and star and knows exactly where everything is at any given second
On the level that I am currently experiencing occupancy, this is perfect.
😂😂😂 Bro ain’t there, but he’s there if you get me
OK this comment denies the existence of the Uncertainty principle...
@@seventhson4412 ‘is the cat dead or alive or both? No he’s drumming perfectly
@@seventhson4412 I know that’s not Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle but I thought it was funny haha
And this, is how I discovered Khurangbin ❤

hear what the drummer named his twin daughters?
... Anna one, Anna two...
And now my twin girls have names

Genius comment Im dead
All three are extremely talented but I don’t think I’ve ever heard any strat sorcery like this before. And he seems to be playing lead and backup(s) at the same time. Wow. Followed
mark speer is a legend
@@k0vae yes indeed. Already
@@incomeGlitch There's a good video, I believe by Reverb where they discuss some of their influences. Mark gets into some of the sources of his "sorcery"
@@SwnkyTiger what’s the title
Life rules.
I wish you all the best Jesse. You can make it through this and make positive waves in this world.
Sorry to hear. I was also in a very low place when I found out about Khruangbin. As cheesy as it sounds, their music has helped me for quite some time as it is familiar, soothing, and calming. I hope it can continue to do that for you too!
Sorry to hear of your loss, sending you love along the way ❤️
They’re music has made such an impact on my mental too, I was blessed to see them live I was so stoked! Stay positive I wish you so much light and happiness!
i am sorry for your loss❤️
i find the power of music to be something so incredible... how hearing something can make u feel some type of healing ?? i love it!!
wishing u peace
My dad used to play this video all the time and hearing it now years later is just perfection
Your Dad is awesome!
If you listen really really hard at 3:51 you might notice that the drummer doesn’t make a mistake
Best comment 😂
That pianist on the third track has such good timing he really should consider a career as a drummer.
Underrated comment. 👏🏽
@@reuterfamilymovies Criminally underrated.
Piano is a percussion instrument, but you're right - he plays it like a drummer. (yes, I know he's the drummer too)
That's not a criticism... it's not like there's only one way to play piano. "I Feel The Earth Move" was also played like a drummer, and it's great too.
unfortunately he is said to be left-footed. too bad. @WeAreN1nja @reuter... agree
The drummer hopes that the humans will eventually understand this intergalactic language of absolute rhythm and harmony!!
well said Sheldon!
I love how chilled they are. No need for any theatrics, just sweet sweet music.
it's upsetting how deeply in sync they are
makes me wanna be that in sync with somebody ~
im horribly not worthy
This sound is outstanding. Better than most studio recordings.
i'm not even sure this is music it sounds like something robot insects would come up with.
@@user-my6mn8et9h Are you high?
Ok, 2 things: they sound exactly as they do in the album, and this whole thing looks like an episode from Portlandia.
Wish they'd put a bird on it

We can pickle that!

Ha...nope, you're not!!!
On the 0 day God created The Drummer so She knew EXACTLY what time it is.

Every time you experience a de ja vu it's actually god adjusting the time of the universe using this dude's drumming.
Looooool
This is my favorite comment about Dj’s drumming omfg 😂
Everything about the bass player blows my mind, from her look, to the skill, the look to the drummer to remain in sync and the smile when they nail it, wow.
Time is second-guessing itself when listening to this drummer's impeccable timing.
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿😆
Hahahaahha ah ah ah ahahauuaa
What if I told you that the Drummer and Lead guitarist played with me at my church for over 10 years? 😂 true story. The drummer is actually a dope bass player and keyboard player. And Mark on lead, is actually dope on bass too
That drummer is a machine. Seriously phenomenal.

I see Mr T has got a hair cut
Bold of you to assume she's not multitasking
The drummer adjusted all of my clocks around the my house...including my iPhone..and a wrist watch which I though had a dead battery..god level!

Love this comment!😂
I was thinking two Joey Ramones and a drummer
WHY IS THIS SO ACCURATE AHDBAHBDSA
You've put exactly into words what I thought! :)
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa🤣
Everybody's talking about the drummer, am I the only one who thinks the guitar is just incredible?!? The soul of the band, magic sound that the drums and bass accompanied very well, but the guitar it's the master piece of the band.
And the groovy bass guitar too
😎🥰🔥
The songs seem simple but the guitarist is putting in WORK. So many little fills right smack dab in the middle of the rhythm. You are not mistaken, friend.
Reason everyone mentions the drummer is because he is stunningly subtle.
So many other do not have the skill & or patience to do job he’s there to do….keeping rock solid time!
Nah, all parts are essential.
@@Vapedealerband facts. This band is toit like a toiger.

Exactly bruh his technique is so masterful
trillin is thrilin
best guitarist out of Houston for sure and there is so much talent here that cant even compare.
His style its like two guitarrist cause he makes solos in the road but he starts with some environment chords, the basis of the song.
