I'm a bass player and have seen some serious bassists live in my life... seeing this dude with MKB was lifechanging. This guy isn't human. He just thumps and hammers for the entire set, there are no simple basslines. Super underrated cat among bassists.
How did I not know about this band until now? Seriously, how is Marcus King not headlining a tour? He is just literally one of the best artists performing right now
He sets the bar high for professionalism. It seems like everything Marcus does live sounds like it was recorded in studio. The guy is just that polished and getting better everyday. He has that Buddy Guy jam style down to a science.
I'm a pretty crappy guitar player, but I'm good enough to recognize greatness, and this kid's got it. While his lead playing is amazing, I think it's what he's doing when not playing lead that I find so stellar. I imagine all those years as a kid backing his father and grandfather is what has turned him into a fantastic rhythm player.
I know by your comment that you are very familiar with the King family history in music and especially guitar work. You’re correct, Marcus played back up rhythm guitar many a night for his dad and granddad and all it did for him was make him better and to learn to give space to anyone playing alongside of him. Case and point, watch him play along side of Warren Haynes. He is respectful of the old school masters and helps them sound even better but when it’s time for his lead play he doesn’t try to upstage what Warren just played unless Warren gives him the nod that it’s okay to rip! The other guitar player that used just as much respect when playing along side of the masters was Stevie Ray Vaughan when playing with the likes of Buddy Guy and Albert King. Though he could have melted the stage he chose not to every time. It’s just humbling to watch that kind of respect. Derek Trucks is another respectful player when he is playing with the masters and he has played with just about all of them. It’s good to read your comment and know you understand.
Yesterday I was so saddened by the passing of one of the godfathers of Southern rock Mr. Charlie Daniels. I am seeing this for the first time and my sadness has turned to pure and absolute elation. Southern rock is now the powerhouse genre of music in America and hopefully will be for a very long time. I consider myself to be truly blessed to be alive to witness this new generation of Southern musicians and Southern music. The south has done it again and may they rock on forever . God Bless and preserve the sound of the South. Amor y Paz.

Marcus King band has killer feel and soul what else do you need to hear from a band. Marcus Kings guitar playing just blows me away his singing just grabs you. I saw this band in Orlando and I loved every minute if this band on stage.
Goodbye Carolina will go down as one of the greatest songs in this genre book it.
Been following Marcus since i saw him posting videos of himself playing guitar in his room... AMAZING. DREAMS COME TRUE. With hard work, dedication & passion.
I really wish they had this session laid down on CD or vinyl!! It's just so superbadass, start to finish, just a really amazing jam.
Best band on the planet, so much variety with no repetition, even in his solos, amazing.
lol
Listen again. He's great, no doubt. But he's got a program.
The last time I saw someone playing a Gibson like that his name was Alvin Lee....who would be proud of Marcus I am sure.
Alvin was great! Not many people mention him but man was he talented
The best singer, songwriter and guitar player I've seen in a long time. And the band is awesome, too.
John Mayer's Trio band used to be able to hit these sweet spots when he used to do Jazz/Blues, since then it has been hard to find another. Marcus King Band has filled that void and is amazing.
Tedeschi Trucks....
@@tomkeefe46 Bros. Landreth, J.D. Simo, etc. Its hard to find yes but those bands are still out there
Mayer could never play or sing like this.
@@Mrmustard1380 Thank you for saying what i wanted to. Not on his best day could he come close to Marcus.
@@Mrmustard1380 That's just not true at all. Mayer is a phenomenal guitar player.
When the drummer is wearing pit viper sunglasses you know it's gonna be good
thats what I was thinking. I love the music.
Mr. King seems to be ushering in a brand new day in rock and roll.
no this shit has been going on since 46 with Muddy Waters . chuc berry ,stones , james brown .allman bros ,canned heat ,janis ,johnny winter ,lil feat ,j geils , joe walsh . Srv ,Charlie sexton , Warren Haynes , Derek Trucks ,TTB , Allman Betts band , jeff healy , Tyler Childers OR Billy Strings .try em out theres more , synthesizers cant keep a good band down . dont forget to Boogie .
That bass & drummer are tight! This whole band is crazy good.
true!
Amen, and he's solid and stands by his band!
I was just thinking the same thing, solid backbone. Dude on bass knows his stuff.
I'm a bass player and have seen some serious bassists live in my life... seeing this dude with MKB was lifechanging. This guy isn't human. He just thumps and hammers for the entire set, there are no simple basslines. Super underrated cat among bassists.
If you liked his drumer check out the Delvon Lamar Organ trio.
How did I not know about this band until now? Seriously, how is Marcus King not headlining a tour? He is just literally one of the best artists performing right now
his first lp was 2016 .
Agree with everything you said. Great talent.
It’s his unique voice. He’s a very good guitar player but the voice, the voice.
He’s a full house with Aces high!
You're right man! He's a 4th generation musician, that pot just kept getting more rich every generation.
Amor y Paz.
@randycollins7910 ok so funny u should bring up Charlie on this page .i think that Markus is from the CAROLINAS . Well i am an old CDB fan too , and i once heard Charlie , i think ,say he was from the carolinas origanally . a place called Coldstove .just a few acres on the road type of place . did u ever hear of that place ?
you can immediately see he knows music inside and out! 4th generation of talent!
As a local of Greenville, SC, I am so proud of this young man. I drive by where he studied guitar at the Fine Arts Center just about everyday. My dad lives only a half a mile from there. Keep rockin man! Keep rockin for Greenville!
Marcus King is a genius.
His drummer is incredible.
The whole band is very good.
Thanks a lot.
I'm gonna see them in october in Madrid. I feel lucky.
Agreed. Enjoy the show in October. I just him last week. INCREDIBLE!!!

New Zealand reporting in :
I too am completely down the rabbit hole with Marcus and the band. Love the bassist so much. Marcus is so so so 🔥 slick LOVE HIM
I second that. The bassist plays some very cool stuff...adds so much to the overall groove and sound.
Wonderful to see young men carrying the torch!
... for sure one of the greatest today's guitarists - and the band is awesome...
Damn! An old soul right here! I absolutely adore Marcus and his band!
Eternally gratefull to you Sir Warren Hayes for recognizing the incredible tallent of this young man, and making it possible to enjoy his music!
Overwhelmingly great! Marcus King, a voice like Otis Redding/Janis Joplin and guitar playing... how to even say? So goddamn good!
I haven't been this excited about a band in a long time.
holy crap, I knew Marcus was someone special but to hear him grow into something this solid, powerful, creative and emotionally deep is inspiring. So glad to see the bravery of choosing to close by playing "outside" and off the radio and doing it with so much conviction. YES! thank you.
Marcus has been an inspiration to many of us as well. He is so down to earth and relaxed not only in his playing but in his connection to the wider community. He's a real gem of a human being! It's an extra bonus that he can shred on a guitar but we would love him no matter what he did for living.
@@iamavl Well said. He's the kind of kid .. you'd be "proud" to call a "friend" ...
me love misc thank u misc
@@iamavl That's great to hear. Love what you do with these Echo Sessions. All the best to you and your colleagues.
Just discovered this band and man... can't stop listening to all the albums. Not one song is lesser quality than the others. This is farout the best band I've heard in the last years. Every sound, every instrument is in perfect harmony with the lead singer's addictive voice. I'm blown away by this sound and hoping they will perform in Europe some day! Glad to be hearing much more of Marcus King and his incredible band. Thank you for putting a musical smile on my face again.

One of the best bands out there right now is marcus king Band and marcus kills it every time. This kid was born with the blues in his soul.😊
Albert, BB, Freddie, Marcus ... These KINGS were born to reign The Grand Palace of the Blues.
onelove1968 You’re forgetting Freddie!!
@@564Dylan
Did not forget Freddie, he mentioned him
That Gibson in his hands takes it up a whole other notch.
Agreed! And have you seen the teasers for his new custom shop model? Tasty.
He’s actually playing the custom shop ES-345 in this performance. It was modeled after his original one that his dad passed down to him.

I've heard those guys last week, for the first time. They're already one of my favorites.
I've only just discovered Marcus King. Bloody hell he's good. The band is incredible too.
It was the first Echo Sessions concert where I discovered Marcus King. Un-freaking-believable talent. Going to see him tomorrow night, so I'm listening right now to get in the mood! Thanks for making your way up to Toronto, Marcus!
This was in Toronto Canada 🍁
As a north GA upper SC native so proud. Lived in Greenville when I was a kid. I'm at 15:52 and melted in my seat send help. this band fucking kills
Been playing music for30 years now.before i get out of bed,i grab my headphones and listen to Marcus, that's how i start my day.a musical god.
Great, great band and fantastic leader, Marcus King, extraordinary guitarist and great singer!
Sounds like Janis Joplin and joe cocker had a great night at Woodstock... he’s the result... what a genius! 🤘👌
you nailed it, especfially that opening t
track, little jimmy 2
Except that would make him 50 years old...

It's a 'Gibson ES-355' .. A beautiful instrument. Marcus calls his 'Big Red' !!! An amazing guitar played here, by an even more amazing 24 year old guitarist, singer and composer .. Marcus King. ~

No weaknesses in his skills. Complete entertainer. Saving this right onto a playlist.
YYYYEEESSS, The future is here and its Marcus King!!
He had a show in my city last weekend, and I'll tell ya this dude leaves it all up on the stage. An absolutely insane guitarist with roaring vocals. Performed for 2 and a half hours!
Wow! Marcus has so much going for him. His voice is incredible and the bluesy guitar is so good. His band is really good and they work together so good. The last song is truly a southern blues song that hits home. Marcus keep it goin my friend !
Marcus makes me wanna throw my guitars away. He's too good.
My guitars are mad at me too. I don't touch them like he touches his. Jealous
Yup, me too. He's certainly an ego squisher! I hate him so much and totally love him, its very disheartening! Thank the gods he aint a bronzed chisel cheeked stud muffin too or i'd have to scream and scream and stomp my feets!
I watched this video so many times from beginning to end. MARCUS IS A ROCK GOD TO ME!
Can’t explain how they can be so incredibly good that I prefer them live then on records... hats off to MKB
The guitar hero we need for this next decade! What a beautiful thing... to watch the next legend literally evolving before our eyes WOW 🎸 🔥 👀 🙌
Another one to watchg if you like watching legends grow up is Christone "KIngfish" Ingram. Was one of B.B. KIngs last young players he helped out. He is like Marcus just keeps getting better.
It's awesome right! Life rips brother!

Not trolling, hope that young brothers health improves or we're gonna get robbed of him too early.
Was flicking through FB and someone mentioned that this guy played Dublin (Ireland) and they were suitably impressed. So, here i am checking him out on RUclips and WOW he is something else. Absolutely fantastic
The lead-off "Where I'm Headed" is monstrous - love it! This version just rocks so right. Its album Carolina Confessions is excellent, but for this song, this live version is AWESOME!!!
Wow . The tune around the 40 min mark is outta sight. Boy can that guy shred ❤️
