This is ridiculous. How can a band be this good. They are satisfying to listen to on all sorts of levels. Little bit of Zappa influence, Allman Brothers, plenty of soul, enough fusion to intrigue everyone. Damn, this is perfect.
That "Zappa Influence' comes from Marcus' years of 'Jazz Theory' studied in school. He does have that ability to blend the Wah-Wah with the 'Fuzz-Tone' to create that Zappa sound. ~
Other Marcus King Shows carry a heavy Allman Bros. Sound and his band is doing it the way the Allman Bros band did it! LOUD and STRONG but never the wrong song!

You really notice his jazz training in his playing. Something sooo many well known guitarists lack and it shows when the chord progressions get a little more complicated. This guy negotiates them effortlessly. A pleasure to hear.
Yes Marcus has some serious skills whether from training or just natural giftedness. His father Marvin King is a fine guitar player too. David, if you ever get stateside and can come through Asheville then I hope you will stop by our office at Echo Mountain Recording Studio. You have some fans here that would love to give you a tour!
I just found this kid. Where the f*** have I been for the last three years? How can somebody 20 years old sound like this? Jesus! It's like he was born with an old soul. Fave!!!!
Heck! He's almost 23 now. He sounded just as good at 20 though. I just discovered him also. What I've been missing! SO glad I found him so young, and I'm looking forward to LONG affair with the MKB!
can't get enough this group.. So on time and tight. Marcus and Band certainly have the influences from other great musicians from the past and present, but puts his own signature on the work. so well done!!
The thing that is insane about Marcus. You hear the guitar and think this dude is incredible....then he decides to sing...while playing all those subtle intricate runs and voicings....MIND BLOWN.
Marcus is a rare talent. Everyone in the band is fantastic. I just saw them in Durango and they pull it off every night even in small venues in small towns. Great show and a great band.
Wow, just wow. I was lucky enough to see the band at the Fillmore in SF a couple months ago and they just blew me away. They so effortlessly move from southern rock to blues to funk and are just so damned tight!!!. I would love to see a double bill with them and the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Funny how his voice and Susan Tedeschi sound similar and his playing sounds like Derek Trucks. haha!
First time I saw Marcus king band was when he was touring with tedeschi an trucks band I just live that band but Marcus can jam an had the opportunity to meet all those fine talented gentlemen omgosh that was already 4 years ago so I’ve seen Marcus an the band 4 x ‘s an can’t wait for more 💙💙💙
Yep the talent here is just superb, I love it! And I harken back to the 60s-70s when LZ, PF, ELP, et al, were cranking it out. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only old white guy left in Texas that has any faith at all in our younger generation, but this is exactly what I'm talkin' about!! This sorta stuff makes me feel comfy the world is in okay hands ... certainly no worse than than it is in ours right now, ha ha!
Awesome recording studio !! Built right on the 1st floor of a fairly small red-brick church in Ashville N. Carolina. The company, known as the " IAMAVL " or the "Independent Arts and Music of Ashville", produce some really great music-videos. This being just one of them, .. the Marcus King Band, do an amazing job here. Starts out a little "rough" but they quickly get warmed up and "into the groove" and it just gets better and better from there on out. Thank you Marcus ( and the whole band ) .. and TY IAMAVL ... GREAT job ... by ALL involved !!! ~~~
I just discovered this guy and his fabulous band. Wow. Blown away. First things I heard were him playing with Jack Pearson, and then Jimmy Herring and WSP. Those 2 guys are as sophisticated as anyone in the southern blues/jam/jazz world and he was totally hanging with them. He's got a deep reservoir to draw from and a killer band to do it with.
Angus King ? um Do you mean the senator , governor Angus King? Maybe you mix King with Young as in acdc fame Angus and brother Malcolm Young? Well I am sure there is a 5th king somewhere. But in my opinion they better be dad gum good to be logged in with this bunch of Kings.('-;@@plexifab
Marcus has taken music to another level combining Psychobilly jam-band jazz fusion southern rock into something incredible. He is a prolific guitar player that erupts with music like Stevie Ray Vaughan. An endless well of lead guitar and a command of every genre, most specifically the Jazz phrasing that put him out in front as a band leader propelling the music forward with guitar alone much in the way that Buddy Rich did as a bandleader on drums. And he has the biggest head in Show Business. And I mean that in a good way. 🤠 just watch how intense they play live for 2 hours.. his drummer has Billy Cobham albums in his collection if that tells you anything..freaking intense..on the highest level
This is one of the best recordings I have heard from this band. You guys have something very special especially in this modern , so much junk, feel, attach, groove. Wow this is a real treat to listen to.
Awesome session and great production too. One suggestion...in the info tab it would be helpful to list the name of each song in the video with a link to the start time. I've just discovered Marcus (and his band) and still don't know the names of all of their songs. Listing them would allow me to familiarize myself with them. Damn! This show is a masterpiece of music. Maybe the best concert I've seen on RUclips. FANTASTIC SHOW! GREAT BAND! Thanks for sharing! 💚🤍❤

this live version of Opie is absolutely the best version I've found online so far....his tone is PERFECT! Aside from the immense amount of talent in his fingers, what gear is he using in front of the Super Reverb to get that beautiful breakup?
Let me throw that question over to Josh Blake next week. Thanks so much for watching.
just a ts9 tube screamer and super reverb cranked, he is very much a minimalist when it comes to gear, the key is the way he plays, most players when they get in those fast lines don't stay exactly in time where as marcus everything he does has perfect time even the insane flurries of notes, also he has a heavy background in jazz so he has this huge library of theory and techniques to pull from at will, he is unparalleled in skill imo, and of course its also the way he hits the stings in this stevie ray vaughn like aggressive way but maintaining complete control and precision. Ive been watching this guy for about 5 years now and he continues to surprise me, just when i think i got his playing figured out he pulls something else out and blows my mind again, my childhood friend is the bassist Stephen C., if you get a chance i think there best shows are in really small venues in our home town, they are much more relaxed and that's where you would get to really see the mastery.
