I hear people bitching all the time that there just aren't any new young musicians coming up to fill the shoes of the great ones we've lost. Well, I beg to differ!
exaclty. those people are lazy listeners
Problem is none of them are famous at all compared to main stream that’s the problem
It's overwhelmed by all the mainstream garbage. Nearly everything on the radio is generic recycled crap. Country, if you can call is that, is the most far gone as far as mainstream goes
I flat out don't listen to the radio
The issue isn't that it doesn't exist. It's that it isn't popular. Artists like this used to have mainstream success. No longer the case. That's what is sad.
This sounds like how good whiskey tastes
This whiskey is like how good sounds taste
Smoooooth...
Getting drunk on all the billy strings vids here
Damn straight, or even on the rocks.
This comment deserves ALOT more likes!
Y'all just go ahead and do a collaboration album and call it string kings. Make it happen 🔥🔥🔥
I'm IN!
Id buy two copies of that
🙌❤🤘
Add Joe bonnamasa
Add Willie Nelson in the mix too!
by the way let's give a massive hats off to whoever engineered and mixed this...you wouldn't think a random room in a guitar shop would sound so gorgeous, but these videos always sound killer. great preamps, great mics, great placement, and obviously top drawer talent playing top drawer instruments. i mean what more do you want
great point actually
You right
Can't get enough of this
The acoustic micing and mixing is actually insane in this video- so crisp compared to Marcus and that super reverb
Any guitar shop worth their strings ought to have proper acoustics. It helps to have two living legends playing together:)
These old guitars must be thinking.....finally someone who knows how to play me !
Guitars don't think.
ok boomer
@@danieldonato I don't normally follow these links in comments as they are usually by idiots, but you are a great young player fella.
All those guitars still have price tag on..
@@elon13yearsago8 dummy, they are at a guitar store. cant you read the fucking info? these kids prob cant afford to buy them.
I like the guitar bits at 0:00-4:46
Yeah man. I agree. That part was absolutely bad ass! ;)
A fine example of this style of music and guitar playing ala Doc Watson. I'm going to get ALL of those licks under my fingers. His tone will take much more work and is aided by the beautiful Martin Guitars OM Style Acoustic he plays here. Simply put, a Twentieth Century masterpiece made in the early 1930s I believe by the fine Luthiers at Martin Guitars USA. Get one while you can!
@@rockers2rockers616 I own a Taylor personally, and have played many a Martin in my time, and in my opinion the have a much richer, more full timbre than the Taylors. The lower action most Taylors have and the thin, ergonomic necks and deeper cutaways just make them easier to play for me. I absolutely love the Martins’ tones though, I’ve tried changing to a thicker gauge string, swapping to nylon, using finger picks, switching to just fingernails, everything I can think of to get that warm tones that Martins have while sticking with a Taylor, which from a playability standpoint just suits my style better. Sadly, nothing I try compares to a good ole Martin. If only there was something I could do to my Taylor to get that tone.
Yea....that section really got me too....
My son introduced me to Billy Strings. I introduced him to Marcus King. These two together -- magic.
I love this!
@InThisTogether That's a great idea! I hope you have a great time at the concert.
Same scenario for me and my 34 year old son!!
that’s acc so fy
@@Louisiana666 😅
I met Marcus King in a small bar in Greenville SC back in 2015/16, and I was MESMERIZED. He and his band members came to my house, after the show, and sang and played the piano I had in my living room. WOW. what a great memory. and now i've discovered Billy Strings as well. 2 great musicians.
How wonderful!
This is why everybody needs a piano in their living room! Fantastic story!
Billy's phenomenal
So was his dad
Trump lost Bigly 🦧💩🤡🖕
Guitar store guy standing there like “So should I wrap those up for you guys?”
Guitar store guy is sitting behind the counter dusting off the "HELP WANTED " sign.
Those guitars should never be played again...ever!
😂😂
😁
I think he’s more like, “damn, those guitars are worth 4x the money now!”
That's the juice
nice to see you over here Matthew. Love your channel and killer tones. I dig it.
@johnnyD D .
Bon
totally juicy
this is not the juice. sir, this is the sauce
There's more talent sitting on these 2 stools than the entire crop of wanna bees on the radio today ...
Yes, I totally agree with you. Blessed to see them live. Two of the best shows I've ever witness. Wonderful talents and humbled young men.
Thank God for RUclips to bring us music we’d never ever get to hear on the radio. Thanks to discovering music on RUclips I haven’t listened to the radio in nearly 20 years. True story
Exactly Sir here’s a cheers to the next 20 years ❤
I’m sooo with you! What an advance from the old TV as well!
A few independant stations is all I need
Amen🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉so many gifted people out there in this great big wotld!
The Internet is good ànd bad... Sometimes it shines. Sometimes it shines.
Billy's voice is getting better and better.hes freakin awesome.
David Phillips agreed
I watch this video all the time--!I love both of their guitar playing and their singing voice!!Incredible!!George Gershwin should have heard this performance!
Smooth move in sound!!!! m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2589544244423089&id=100001026151518
He sounds like Doc
kinda a Doc Watson softness and earthy.
I sent this to my 85 year old classical guitarist dad . His eyes lit up and he cried.
Blues and skillfully played instruments impress all musicians , no matter their genre
Frank Mageean thanks for sharing! music IS the universal language. I love seeing how artist can speak to each other in “music”
Frank Mageean amen
The most beautiful compliment!
Shit are you serious? I conjured up such an image if this after reading your comment
It's jazz but yes, I agree with the sentiment 100%, beautiful music is beautiful for anyone who's willing to listen. (For the youtube "professors" who love to discuss: It's technically a jazz blues but that has less to do with blues than the name might imply. "Straight, No Chaser" is another example that shows you that jazz blues is not blues, it's jazz).
These 2 guys complement each other’s playing style so well. This was actually a beautiful collaboration. It was fluid. No contrasting playing or sound conflict.
Kinda like the Grateful Dead
They definitely know how to play with other musicians. No ego, just a pure love for the music.
Couldn’t live with myself if I hit like and ruined the 420 like count. 👍
an entire album of these two playing would be timeless. like "kind of blue" timeless.
Nothing like a little Billy/Marcus collab to make u want to pick up and put down your guitar at the same Time
😂
Ooohhh shit! I was thinking exactly the same!!!
@@trevorw3233 lol
I want saw Roy Clark in Kansas City, and he was about to play “under the double eagle. “
He made the statement, “if there are any young guitar pickers in the audience, once I do this, it will likely scar them up for life. “
I wanted to never pick up a guitar again after he played it. And I feel the same about this young man here!
😂
I just thought I played this piece well until I ran across this. Hahaha Makes we want to quit.
Wondering how many people out there really know how good this is...
Laid back, in the pocket and most importantly, NON RUSHED.
Excellent...
It's honestly super duper incredible
Billy and that fingering
Billy strings is one badass dude and all the band members that play with them no joke one of my favorite I'd really like to see him in person at a concert
Well put! In the pocket 👌
Man, simply perfection. These two nailed it
So good!!
You're great Tomo 👍
Awesome
What’s scale is Marcus using for the first 30 seconds?
Tomo fujita you're amazing!
So cool you listen to Marcus and Billy too!
Man! Strings dropped into his opening solo like a pro at the Pipeline. His tone, feel and expression is unmatched. His vocals? Melancholy...blue and effortless. Describing Strings as the Lords gift to our world of music is a heavy load man! But he is. And he is, most certainly heavy.
Brothers and Sisters Billy is a once-in-a-lifetime gift much needed in this World.
I JUST discovered him and I'm absolutely obsessed! Bummed I didn't know sooner (he came to several venues near me 4 years ago)... but oh so happy that I have! Can't wait for this weekend!🥰🎫🎶🌴🌅🌴🎶💓
I'm surprised to hear so many people raving about how great Billy Strings is (he is) but not commenting on how amazing Marcus King is. Maybe t his video doesnt highlight him enough but his voice and guitar skills are at least as good
Billy reminds me of a young Glen Campbell, so fluid and smooth and Marcus is a guitar monster as well... thanks for the post 👏 👏👍🤠 Thank you again !
Amen
Listening to these guys is an inspiration. Sierra Ferrell and co. still top my charts.
"Summertime" is quite possibly the most beautiful and captivating melody written in the last century. Mighty find job here, gents!
It’s fantastic, but .... c’mon man. Put your seatbelt back on.
Gershwin wrote so many magnificent and brilliant pieces, to whit.
gershwin still is amazing in 2024. timeless melodies
Did u notice Billy pull off the mic. What a pro. The future of American music is secure in the hands of these two smokin young musicians. They are clearly reincarnated old souls.
guitarsword1 when you say “pull off the mic” are you talking about him backing away from it depending on if he’s playing rhythm or taking a ride?
"Live mixing" 😊 A pro indeed.
Yes!
Absolutely!
They are the muaical usherance of the New Earth!
Sturgill does it in Brewery sessions also
Agreed
"Billy's" voice is hauntingly like Doc Watson's. Wow!
that's the first thing I thought! Glad somebody noticed.
Docs his biggest influence besides family
Thought so too
Thought exactly that same thing
i love the jazz influences obvious in marcus’ playing, it’s a heady mix of blues, jazz and country that’s all his own
The octaves are a nice touch 1
Go listen to the doc and David Grisham version of this Billy sounds exactly like doc it’s crazy
Folks are going to look back on this specific video in 90 years. This is insanely good.
txtbook
Can't stop playing this shit. That guitar playing is so soulful . Fucking kill it guys
Billy nails Doc Watson's vocal sounds as well as his pickin'.
Isn't it great to know we can come back and listen to this again and again. Makes the world not half bad.
104 here in Texas today, got a dog-walker going by that digs it the most
Rumor has it that there's a new generation of young cats who have their own distinct style of playing that is incredible and they have paid attention to the old cats who paved the way!
This is as good as it gets, no matter the age!
Billy and Marcus, kingfish, are the future!
Oh man its only getting better
billy, marcus, and colter wall are a refreshing breath of fresh air and they are young guys that are showing true grit across the country/american folk genres. they have musical knowledge, soul, and style. true musicians in a world of manufactured pop music
@@JKoooozie Kingfish fits that description perfectly too, good call
Tyler Childers too
Came here for Marcus.
Now heading out to listen to everything Billy has done.
Two great talents.
Thank you Carter vintage guitars.
What did you think of Billy's stuff?

He's great. So young yet a very tasty player.
2 of the hottest & coolest cats going these days. Bless their heart's for keeping "real music" alive.
Great example of country blues! The future of music is secure with these two fine young players!
Yes, and it was composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin for the opera Porgy and Bess!
Country Jazz.
This is one of the best videos on the internet. Two young masters laying it down!
amen!
Looks like the Fairbairn Brothers found the pick of destiny.
Cody Newsom 😂😂 best comment.
Hope you aren’t related to Gavin Newsom
Was tired of reading the circle jerk comments. This was good
LMAO
Severely underrated comment right here. 👌
With that voice and guitar skills, I'm convinced Billy is related to Stevie Ray Vaughn
SRV wasn't the only good white guy on a guitar.
@@jocosaway3676 one really has to make it crystal clear for nimrods like you don't they?
I am talking about the likeness of his voice and looks not his race.
These two are just straight up PURE artists. Anyone that doesn't like this music.... Doesn't understand music.
Or just has different tastes in what they enjoy
Damn, Billy! That may be the best version of Summertime I have ever heard!!!
Was it good for you because it was fabulous for me.
I’m blown away by the heart and soul that both musicians display. Billy actually sounds like Doc
I totally agree Sharon
Two princes of the genre soon to inherit their respective thrones and join the halls of kings
wow that opening solo on the tele was incredible
Damn ... best version i ever heard. No joke.
Adrian Whittenburg Just wonderful! Blown away!
This is a wonderful version, without a doubt - but you haven't been looking very hard 😉. That is not ANY take away from this fantastic rendition, for the record.
No joke.
Personally, best version is by Janis Joplin.
Billy sounds almost identical to Doc Watson. ruclips.net/video/vi8W93aJG_U/видео.html
Billy's voice is like an old soul, and these guy's playing is like a vintage wine, that is too precious to open. But, open it, they did. I'm glad they did.
Nice to see there are still some kids out there still carrying the torch of Real guitar playing. Those harmonics Billy hits , are as clean as it gets.
this could play on repeat for a good while
There’s no way to adequately describe how good it is that they’re in a room together playing and singing!!!
This is one of those things that just makes you wonder how anyone can be as talented as this here
Helle! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day.. Stay Safe!
I believe that was the best rendition of that song, hands down. Incredible, incredible musicianship. I feel privileged to have heard this... wow!
I think Nina Simone might have something to say about that....
These guys are so good it's making the old guys cry from their memories of the good old days
This is a partnership we need to see more of. Pure talent.
The stellar way they play rhythm for each others leads is s true sign of greatness.
Real singers and musicians that I can listen to all day and all night.
That‘s as good as a really good Wine ❤️

Transcendent music: timeless, priceless. More valuable than any gold or material richness...God protect these transmitters of irreplaceable truth that rings like a bell to our soul.
Doc Watson is proud of you boys!
I listen to this regularly to remind me what good music sounds like
The idea that a vintage guitar shop can get these two young phenoms together for a session is mind blowing. Two of the most amazing musicians on the scene today and of all time. Thanks!
Every guitar player should walk into carters! Especially that room.
South Carolina and Michigan united in a way never seen before.
Where is Marcus harmonizing?? Would of been insanely great. Billy did surprising great given the melody.
Sounds so sweet!
Not sure if I’m more impressed by Stings playing or singing...🤷🏾♂️👍👍👍
Absolutely the new generation of greats. Congrats boys sooo good
My very favorite version of this classic. I'm wowed by the disciplined voicing of the notes and chords and complete talent of these 2 prodigies. Thanks guys!
They aren't prodigies. They are masters.
I’m a huge fan of both these guys. Billy’s flat picking is always phenomenal. Love this version but take a listen to Ray Charles and Cleo Laine take on Porgy and Bess’ ‘Summertime’. It is truly the quintessential version of this masterful song.
Damn. I knew this was going to be good, but I didn’t expect it to be addictive
the only thing I said out loud and to myself after watching was: JESUS
His name is Billy actually.
@@Sphere723 and Marcus is in the right, he's also a great musician
These two are awesome!
Best version of this song that I have ever heard. A good musician can just jam with anyone and make it sound awesome, and that's what these fellas do.

If I could I would mash the like button.
I swear watching these guys play is supernatural. I get goosebumps. Tremendous talent, Bravo 👏
Billy strings and Marcus King now I seen everything! This is pure just out of this world.
$100,000 worth of axes between these two. No wonder the tags are still on them. Lol. Billy Strings is the best young artist out there.
That you have heard. As good as someone thinks they are, there's someone better.
See Marcus live
Russ Clark I think the price just went up
100k? not even close. great playing, I agree with that.
@@kevinfry1850 saw him live in Birmingham was great show I've been following his music for 2 yrs now .I'm a rhythm acoustic /lead vocal 20+ years experience and was overwhelmed by the pain heartache and joy I felt in in his music. I've loved Marcus King's music for a while, and I grew up in the same area as Billy - we've even done a gig together. These guys sound great together!
Fancy seeing you here, my handsome young James.
Well you would clearly know if Marcus is 100 percent self taught player or did he take guitar lessons when he was young?
@@rollin19 he is self taught but he does have formal Jazz theory training later.
Them boys be channeling the spirits of love and grace...foshow.
An absolute masterpiece.
Wow, Jazzie, Bluesy, is there anything Billy can't play? Marcus King is no slouch either. Just a really beautiful interpretation of a lovely song.
These guys are so good, a lot of hours logged in to play at this level.
wow. I'd love to see more of those two. Thanks Carters!!!!
if you haven't already, you should hear King sing. His voice is one of the best.
Jake T i thought he'd sing on this tune but Billy nailed it.looking forward to seeing them again at roosterwalk again this year.
This is gold
Two of the best talents of this generation
Shit gave me chills... like for real chills
Whew....real music... Hey Nashville learn a thing or two.
photonrayswaves indeed.
Not just another version, of this classic tune, but one's that, up top👍!!!!
Perfect example of less is more
Lovely to hear Billy play outside of his flatpicking style. There was never any doubt, but his legato is clear and smooth as hell too!
these guys are the real deal, id listen to the country station if they played real talent like this!
That's not country music.
@@Daffanitely Whatever it is it's fun to take bong rips to
These 2 gents are fantastic. They both are tapped into that sacred vein where the best music flows forth and is timeless. They both are wonderful vocalists and as guitar pickers, they humble me. As a 50 year old who has been playing for 38 years, they've got me doubling down on my practicing! Lol I would say not to worry about the young folks, they have a big mess to clean up but they'll do well, and they'll keep us tapping our feet while they're at it!

Doc Watson would be proud. Great voice and incredible playing both acoustic and Tele
The future of real music looks a lot better when I hear guys like this.
My dad used to sing this to me to get me to sleep. Way back in the day.
Aside from the incredible and obvious talent from both these guys, I was dumb struck at Billy’s vocal talents. I liked his bluegrass vocal stylings but had no idea he could get so rich and sultry
Im not a country music fan at all normally but Billy Strings is some player. He plays bluegrass like a demon, has a great voice and shows off some jazz chops here too. I think I just missed him coming to the UK sadly.
Who is back again I need my "Summertime"
I'm here daily my friend.
