Billy Strings is definitely a musical missionary. I'm a third generation gigging musician, have allowed music (all music) to consume my life. I've never seen anyone resurrect a genre like this. Sure there are originators of styles, Elvis, Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc., And while they deserve the respect and appreciation they deserve, it seems what Billy is doing to bluegrass is more difficult. People have expectations, judgmental, snobby, ignorant opinions. Billy and his crew are keeping a huge part of American culture alive and have every ounce of my respect and appreciation. Thanks guys, you're truly setting a much needed bar on the level of talent all music can/should strive for.
When's the last time bluegrass has sold out 20-30,000 seat arenas night after night after night? He's resurrected bluegrass and his crowds are a huge cross-section of fans. Billy Strings is probably the best thing that's happened to music in general in the last 20 years.

Billy & the Band has brought a unique perspective here that hasn't been seen & heard of for Years! Brought Country Music out of the Grave, This is real Country
Not all that different from skiffle... popularized here in the USA most notably by Lonnie Donnigan. Seem to recall that before the Beatles were the Beatles s couple of them were in a skiffle group. I'Ll say this though. Billy Strings is much more accomplished musically than any skiffle group I remember. Billy's sense of timing is amazing. His notes and runs clear and crisp and precise. And a smile that says "I'm doing the one thing that gives my life meaning and there is no place that I would rather be than on this stage, at this time, with these musicians. playing the music I love for all of you."
I just got introduced to Billy Strings 6mos ago and been to 3 concerts and more to come.. am 60 and Billy Strings and the Band of Strings is by far the most comfortable talent I've seen since was a teenager... absolutely 👁️💚👁️💚🍀🕺🎻🎶🪕🎵🪕💚
Many complain how today's talented young musicians can't make it. Billy Strings proves this wrong. Yes, the talent bar is extremely high: instrumental virtuosity, vocal virtuosity, songwriting talent, and the hardworking ability to collaborate and promote. And here he is- filling Red Rocks Amphitheater with 10,000 people at age 26. It can still be done if you have the right gifts.
Good god - I just found this man and his music after a walk through Bela Fleck’s music on here. I can’t tell you how good this sounds here in the mountains of West Virginia on a bright, sunny day.
@@lolitsajoke77 - Found that guy wandering down the same rabbit hole. What a voice on that guy! He, Billy, and most of the folks on “gems on VHS” give me great confidence that the future of country and western music isn’t just heartthrob dudes in cowboy hats singing pop music with a twang over a finger snap beat.

Earlier in the comments someone called this NEWGRASS. No, this is beyond that. Newgrass came about in the 80's (Thank You Sam Bush). When I first saw Billy on 'Bluegrass Underground' my first thought was this is not Newgrass any longer - This is psychedelic-grass! Thank you Billy for expanding bluegrass but keeping a solid footing in tradition.
I have an open mind I'm not up here is like Pete Seeger try to cut the freaking wire lol but it was pretty funny why because Bob Dylan wanted to play electric guitar LOL that was such a party story he had her taxes he was going to chop that freaking wire at the Newport Jazz Festival God Rest his soul
I was at this one, came all the way from Maryland. It took until the third song for the tears of joy to stop flowing. Red Rocks is one of the premier venues and Billy's a premier act, you can see that the band was enjoying the place and the crowd.
@Daniel Taylor I'm also from MD and was at this show!! I scheduled my annual trip around it. I love Greensky too, but I was definitely there for Billy & Co.
So thankful this young man showed up in my feed. I have been listening steady for a few months and will be a fan for the rest of my days. Incredible skills, not many can pick a guitar like that. He will be the a common name in music for generations to come.
100% agree. This young man is a rare rare talent. In interviews he seems really genuine, a sweet humble kid. Just love the energy, the emotion his music stirs in me. Most certainly he will be spoken of for a long time.
I have been a rocker all my life , played in several bands. But I am eclectic. I love Opera, country, and definitely appreciate the sincerity and incredible roots of bluegrass. But here's a kid who looks like he should be the front man for a pop rock or metal band, and he is doing with , and for bluegrass, things I have never heard before. He is making blue grass accessible and cool for the younger generations. God love Doc Watson , and the trailblazers who laid the groundwork of genius in the past...but Billy here is the NEXT legend methinks !!!
I don't know, I was born in 66' so I'm a few years too young to remember, but this has to be what it was like when people first heard Hendrix. I've been following Billy for a couple years now, and he just consistently keeps blowing my mind.
We have an Ampitheatre near my home Billy listening to you today took me back to childhood 50 year's ago we'd ride our bicycles then hike up to the Rebold hill Ocean lookout circa 1930s second World War then climb down the old face to the cave's left from 1920s limestone quarrying. Camping there with Perth's best view from the city to the Indian Ocean out West the moon's reflection making an imaginary pathway out to where apon reaching the horizon you could reach up and touch the moon. Just saw this group in Winston Salem, NC. I've been to dozens of shows of nearly every genre imaginable. I've never seen anything like his show ever. Amazing, no one sat, everyone was mesmerized by the entire thing. I'm 60 years old and grew up in the Appalachian mountains with bluegrass...but nothing like this young man and the 4 insanely talented musicians he has with him. BTW, my son is 23 and a HUGE fan of bluegrass now because of Billy. Thank you for that.
Billy is like the secret special recipe that’s been enjoyed by the few has been let out to the masses no doubt to become a living legend. he has a talent ingrained in his very DNA. he will define American music. i am very happy to witness his journey through the years and thoroughly enjoy every note.
Outstanding young talent. I wish him all the best. It makes me smile to know that American music is being past down to some great young people. No bass, no naked women, no twerking, no bright lights and smoke machines. Just stone cold, straight up, incredible music.
lol Billy Strings is fucking amazing. but he doesn't need your boomer ass putting down other music (which people enjoy a ton) just to put him on a pedestal
Only just recently - maybe 2 months ago - "discovered" Billy and his band - I just cant get enough of him - an incredible talent - and he really seems to enjoy just playing so much
It’s very much alive, just not that innovative and thus, pretty boring. But... these kids with guts and skills appear and change the game for the better.
I grew up in a bluegrass playing family in Appalachian Mtns, I'm in my, 60s and I've never seen anything like him. He's got it all. I could listen to him for days nonstop.

I dont say this about many people, but Billy Strings is very much an inspiration to me. I can listen to this artist sing & play his guitar for hours on end, and some day I hope I can live my life doing what I love with who I love.

I hear Billy Strings pushing the envelope of Blue Grass beyond, and with more talent, than most others have. I saw him and his band a couple years ago. One of the best concerts I heard. Amazing versatility.
Don't get the low key shade some folks are slinging toward the band mates. Billy Strings AND the boys in the band are the absolute best. PERIOD. I was at this one and it was absolutely amazing!!! Who would have thought just 6 months later we'd be in the grips of a global pandemic. 😔 Stay safe everyone. It may be a while, but I'll see you at the next show!!
Agreed. ALL members are at the top of their game. And let’s face it, they need to be top notch to to play at this level. Jarrod Walker won awards for his playing, and along with his brothers, they’re a force to be reckoned with.... As for singing....Flings got that high, lonesome sound, which harmonizes well with Strings. If you ask me, it should be called the ‘Billy Flings’ Band.
Wish I could've made this one but the lady and I were on a road trip somewhere between Portland and Boise when they played. Let's hope we get em back here sooner than later!
We got to see him 2 days after Red Rocks. They were still high AF. It was an amazing show. Crazy enough, we got to see their last live show also in Utah. Just before the shut down. Can't wait to see them again. Amazing live shows.
If you look at the video with the sound off you’d expect them to be a 90s rock band. If you listen to the video without watching it you’d expect them to be a 1970s bluegrass band. Great job guys 🪕
Mike, I agree! Could be said maybe that Billy is the “Michael Hedges” or “Stevie Ray” of Bluegrass? BTW, you are indeed one of my favorite artists, too. Cheers!
If you musians painted a million words, this band of brothers deserve the LOVE AND LOYALTY they share in an unconsible way that ( ya know, the LYRICS are the song of our "souls" ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎯

Can confirm am spiraling down rabbit hole of Billy Strings greatness. I feel lucky and blessed to have these amazing musicians to listen to and like holy cow these guys can play. I play bass myself but these guys are on another level of talented. I support it 100%
Billy has taken progressive bluegrass to a new level... One of the best acoustic guitarists out there today and he keeps getting better! It won't be long before he headlines this place.
Exceptional mix indeed, as you would expect for Red Rocks! Pour one out for the sound techs. Definitely doesn't hurt having four exceptional players that get the absolute most out of the instruments.
Billy Strings you and your band are facing amazing!!! You take me back to the happiest times in my life when my mom and grandpa, grandma and family and friends would get together and play bluegrass music and old country songs with each other and no one has made my hair stand up from picking a guitar, mandolin, stand up bass, fiddle, banjo l, or any instrument since my grandfather was alive until I had the chance to hear you pick man!!! You got it man!!! Absolutely are my favorite lead guitar picker and singer I've had the privilege to listen to since I was a kid and my grandfather was the only other person that had that kind of talent I've ever seen and heard 💯!!! My mom sings Patsy Cline and since my grandfather passed away she said that no one was able to play for her so she hasn't song with any band since, it's sad. My grandfather could play guitar, fiddle, mandolin, stand up bass, banjo, steal guitar, and even a piano. Not only could he play all them he was amazing on all of them. You would have fit right in with my grandparents, mother, and all the rest of the family and friends who got together and played. Wish you could have met and played with my grandfather!

I could live on the proceeds and follow these guys around the country if it weren’t for my two girlfriends. They love the music it’s biting and barking that gets us in trouble.
Billy & the Band has brought a unique perspective here that hasn't been seen & heard of for Years! Brought Country Music out of the Grave, This is real Country
I’m from the UK but if I was from the US this is definitely the people I’d be hanging with!
Go see Junior Brown if you want to see something totally unique and awesome!
It can still be done if you have the right gifts.
and attitude.
Good god - I just found this man and his music after a walk through Bela Fleck’s music on here. I can’t tell you how good this sounds here in the mountains of West Virginia on a bright, sunny day.
It's feel good music brother
You don’t have to tell me, I live it everyday!
Check out Coulter Wall guy is 27 and sounds like he’s been around for 70years
@@lolitsajoke77 - Found that guy wandering down the same rabbit hole. What a voice on that guy! He, Billy, and most of the folks on “gems on VHS” give me great confidence that the future of country and western music isn’t just heartthrob dudes in cowboy hats singing pop music with a twang over a finger snap beat.
Wish I was there kickin' it with you up there in them big hills 😊
This show burned my face off. Was a spiritual experience. Glad I was able to go.
Lucky!!

thank you dude
Some day, god willing, after I'm dead and buried....the young kids who are now watching this prodigy will be watching videos of him as an old man...just as I have seen young and old John Fahey and Paul McCartney. You'll enjoy him today, and you'll enjoy him in 30-40 years. Enjoy.
I was today years old when I discovered Billy Strings.
Billy breathes the way most of us feel. He's just that much closer to his sense of self and being. He show's us how to relax.
The way Billy shares the stage is just incredible.
My favorite bluegrass hillbilly country rock Appalachian music band.
Have you heard him do Led Zepplin?
Such a relief to FINALLY see genuine talent getting big attention. I would actually pay the $150 for a ticket. And they deserve every penny of it.
It's metal grass. Turmoil is structured like a Metallica song
I like smoking grass

Binged on Tommy Emmanuel.
Now I'm bingeing on Billy Strings.
Brings a smile to my face and feet.
Yep.
My feet can't stop Smiling.
I love this kids music beyond words, but the way he smiled at the very beginning melted my heart
Billy Strings and band are the best thing going.
I am just a grining!
Rebecca Herron and he’s a pickin!
Heck, I'd pay good money to go hear him play.

I was at this one, came all the way from Maryland. It took until the third song for the tears of joy to stop flowing. Red Rocks is one of the premier venues and Billy's a premier act, you can see that the band was enjoying the place and the crowd.
Wow! I would have love to have been there.
you are so lucky to see this show!
did you wear a skirt?
@@douglasmorgan5187 No, I had a kick ass time while you were home making snarky comments on RUclips videos.
@Daniel Taylor I'm also from MD and was at this show!! I scheduled my annual trip around it. I love Greensky too, but I was definitely there for Billy & Co.
All that smoke coming from their strings.
Thats when you know the shows hit hot status in Colorado!!!
Absolutely 💯 % agree! This guy can jam like I've never before seen! Love his music!
I think he was playing metal at one point. You can se him play Voodoo Chile here on RUclips.
Very well said!!!! To headrush
This guy has been diggin' draggin' punchin' and playing for years finally getting the respect he deserves Power to ya Billy Tiger
he's only 25...
@@D45VR and he’s been performing for 10+ years
I don't know, I was born in 66' so I'm a few years too young to remember, but this has to be what it was like when people first heard Hendrix. I've been following Billy for a couple years now, and he just consistently keeps blowing my mind.
Joe Combs how is he the most talented? In what way?
crunch9876 idk if he’s the most talented but i will say his originality sets him apart. Songwriting is just as good as his music
@@crunch9876 Maybe Joe's only seen one musician? He's stating this from a personal perspective, not spouting it as gospel.
It's not just Billy though - although I won't disagree that he is amazingly talented. The musicians who play along with him are also incredible.
It is beautiful
Billy is an Alien. From planet bluegrass.. when he plays he emits pure grass, he looks human but he really isn't. ... New pentagon footage!
PURE GRASS
I hear hes got 2 extra invisible alien fingers and thats how he plays so good. Plus he can pick his nose without anyone seeing.
fuggin. I'm 213 yrs old & this rocks.
Not sure how I got to this video, but I'm not sad. Never heard of him before.
I stumbled on his stuff a few months ago. He is amazing!
You're in for a treat lol.
My favorite!!!
Same, but it was a couple years ago. I'm a big fan now. I generally stick with death metal and freeform jazz, but this is really good stuff

I just learned about Billy a month or 2 , and he's the best since Jimmy Martin, Bill Monroe , and so on, I love some good ole blue grass . Raised on it. That's all my mom and daddy listen to. Wish they were a live to hear Billy, they would agree with me 100%
I'm a metal head and lowkey excited about seeing him live.
Billy is a metalhead too! He was wearing a Cryptopsy shirt in an interview once
same here... i never imagined myself actually kind of ENJOYING anything related to country...
Same here, this music is metal and technical as fuck
Metal head here as well. This guy is incredible. I'm hooked on this sound now.
I was in north Charleston Sunday my sentiment exactly
I was at that show and what you said is 100% true. Kid tore it up!!!
Billy is like the secret special recipe that’s been enjoyed by the few has been let out to the masses no doubt to become a living legend. he has a talent ingrained in his very DNA. he will define American music. i am very happy to witness his journey through the years and thoroughly enjoy every note.
I dont know how I missed this guy over the years but Im ashamed. He is a legend. Glad I stumbled on him.
Outstanding young talent. I wish him all the best. It makes me smile to know that American music is being past down to some great young people. No bass, no naked women, no twerking, no bright lights and smoke machines. Just stone cold, straight up, incredible music.
i mean the first song is about meth. while this is amazing and should be commended, lets not put it up on some purist pedestal.
lol Billy Strings is fucking amazing.
but he doesn't need your boomer ass putting down other music (which people enjoy a ton) just to put him on a pedestal
@@nickh2935 Please go fuck yourself. Thanking you in advance.
@@minimvl If they belong on a pedestal, then put them there.
There's a bass, he's good too
This is perfection in every way. Music isn't dead quite yet.
Only just recently - maybe 2 months ago - "discovered" Billy and his band - I just cant get enough of him - an incredible talent - and he really seems to enjoy just playing so much
Music gets better and better, but there's just aloy more bullshit to sift through to find it
It’s very much alive, just not that innovative and thus, pretty boring. But... these kids with guts and skills appear and change the game for the better.
The music never stops!
I am amazed at the clarity, progression, and unique music Billy Strings and band puts out yet hanging on to the real bluegrass!!! What a delight!!!!
Been playing guitar since I was 14, pushing 60 now..the speed and accuracy of his flat picking is truly insane..He's flying and he never misses...

I'd sell my soul for a fraction of that talent
I never knew how much I love Bluegrass until I saw Billy Strings at a House concert with only 40 or 50 people. Now I get tickets whenever I can.
Its so good!
I'm jealous you saw him play at a small house concert
My interest in bluegrass music skyrocketed when I saw Billy sing one. A living legend, indeed.
Got turned on to Billy Strings about 6 months ago. Dust in a Baggie has been on my rapid rotation Play List ever since.
This Live performance is Fantastic.
Love the Jammin’
That look on his face at the end of Away From The Mire...he looks amazed by/in love with his guitar. I know I am!
Its the perfect song to express it on too!!
If you have never been to red rock you need to bucket list it.the ride into the place will blow your mind.what an Awesome place mother nature gave us.
Anyone that can keep up with this kid deserves their due credit. They're all amazing !! 😍😎
Wish I could've made this one but the lady and I were on a road trip somewhere between Portland and Boise when they played. Let's hope we get em back here sooner than later!
What a great band! Every one of them totally necessary all the time. Wow
We got to see him 2 days after Red Rocks. They were still high AF. It was an amazing show. Crazy enough, we got to see their last live show also in Utah. Just before the shut down. Can't wait to see them again. Amazing live shows.
I saw Billy live last night for the first time in Indianapolis. I'm hooked for life.

I need to say THANK YOU to these incredible guys who share their gifts with us.
If you look at the video with the sound off you’d expect them to be a 90s rock band. If you listen to the video without watching it you’d expect them to be a 1970s bluegrass band. Great job guys 🪕
I grew up in the 90's and I don't recall any rock bands with Mandolin and Banjo and very few with stand up bass.

How have I only just stumbled across this now.....absolutely unbelievable!!!!!
I'm at a loss for words.....
It’s not only great to hear someone of this playing caliber but he is writing new music!! Music that is worth hearing and carrying on.
