You can tell Terry has been picking for many years and is passionate about it! Seems like he is a real pro and should have been noticed long ago...but is so happy to just play with his son..he can't stop smiling and laughing and it touches my heart! So so so happy for the both of them getting there dues.
Gotta agree, with one exception, as I saw brothers Phil and Tommy Emmanuel doing a show together in a dinky little bar close to Ipswich outside of Brisbane in their early days. There were tittie girls, meat raffles and the brothers were glugging Jim Beam. Both very talented young men then. But for musicianship, Billy and Terry are outstanding.

The connection between Billy and dad is undeniable. Terry you raised a fine young man who seems down to earth, humble and genuine along with a heaping helping of God given talent. You don’t see this enough anymore these days.
One of my favorite things in this world is to sit around with family & or friends picking and singing music of any kind. So i was thrilled to find this. Amazing picking by both and the songs they sung amd shared with us. To the man who raised Billy with love not blood, who taught him how to play and shared with him your love of music all i can say is thank you. He built on that foundation which he loved, and look at him now. The world thanks you for the seed you planted inside this very talented young man. You need to do this more often, so we can sit and enjoy.
Sadly I lost my very talented son to Cancer, but the memories and some videos remain of our special musical moments. Its something very special to make music with and mentor a child.
@Malcolm Brewer, I wish I can have a good word to express my condolences and ease your pain. We should be destined to see our parents away when their times comes, it hurts but it is natural order. Any time opposite happens it is heartbreaking and unbearable pain for a parent. Cherish all memories is all I can say.
"Твое общение с отцом и потрясающая музыка, которую вы оба исполняете, вызвали у меня слезы на глазах. Спасибо тебе за это. Я вам очень благодарен." Спасибо за музыку!
Just watching Billy watch his dad play is quite possibly the most wholesome thing I have seen on a long time even tho my days rough it put a belter of a smile up on my face. I can't thank you enough Billy and Billy's old man, genuinely thank you for just being yourself. I can ask for nothing more.
These two make my heart sing. It’s so beautiful to see the love between a father and son and the respect Billy has for his dad. He’s not ashamed of his dad and for a guy his age in this day and time is precious 🥰
I like Terry Barbers voice high pich crackly blue grass sound . And great guitar picker .I can see where Billy learned his licks at a young age and became the talent he is today . It brings back precious memories of my dad and me pickin old gospel and country songs ,We weren't as good but the memories are . THanks for the music fantastic!
yeah they're not biologically related but Terry's been there since he was a toddler and Billy calls him dad so step-dad/dad, what's the difference in this case?
i wish my grandpa was still alive so I could show him this, he would have loved it. RIP grandpa, you got me into this music and now it just makes me cry tears of both sadness and joy at how fucking bad I miss you.
Wow, thank you Billy and Terry for this incredibly wonderful, extraordinary music-making. The gifts of father to son. Willie Nelson and Lukas come to mind as well.
Bringing tears. I really miss my Dad 😭 He totally supported me learning to pick my guitar on all those nights when chores were finished. I was pretty bad for a while, but he kept encouraging me. I love you so much Dad ❤️ RIP 💖 🙏🙏
Absolutely some of the best picking I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Billy I'm sure you already know this, but you and your dad are awesome together and one day you are going to be so happy and thankful that you got all of these great songs down on a video of you and your dad sharing this special time together and also as you age, you think you won't forget the songs," and I pray you don't"but for some just like a beautiful rose their beauty & their memory seem to fade. My mother use to be able to hear a song 1 time sometimes 2 and she knew it word for word, and she even wrote a few songs, she always dream of being a singer and she had a beautiful voice she still has a pretty voice not like it was but still pretty, but she is now 80 and while she is still a beautiful lady she has been dealing with Alzheimer's for the past 5 years, and now is starting to forget her own children, It is a terrible disease, and that is why I was so happy to see you enjoying this special time with your dad. God bless you both.
This is definitely a highlight for Billy. You can see the respect he has for his dad Terry. Awesome job to the both of you for keeping blue grass alive and kickin'
what a gem!!!!! Like some people commenting I'm moved to tears watching and thinking of their lives, their challenges and struggles, and their ability to go through stuff and at the same time play such great music. Thanks for making this available to people like me, an elderly soul stuck in a remote part of the world without chances of listening live music. This is a treasure to feed my soul.
Whenever I start to lose motivation while learning guitar, I come and watch this. No matter how many times I watch these masters at work I never fail to get goosebumps. Can’t imagine how proud the ol man is. Their skill and synchronization is par to none!
I think any comparison between this and him playing with a full band will be made by somebody who is missing the point. How cool is it for this young man to be playing for almost 2 hours with his dad? Check out the RUclips video that tells the story about dad‘s guitar. I don’t know for sure that the guitar that is playing is the subject of that video. But that’s kind of irrelevant. What is relevant is what Billy did to get dad’s old guitar back I truly appreciate the family Sharing their moments like this. And if this goes on on stage, can you imagine what goes on in the living room. Keep your eyes on their faces and body language. I’m not sure what else to say other then it brings a tear to my eyes to see this. And many many many thanks to the person who uploaded it
Windy and Warm must be one of the most beautiful tunes out there! I'm 52 and only now I find it. Amazing how the world keeps coming up with wonders, no matter how long one has been around.

I'll regret not doing this for the rest of my life, but someday, when I'm in the land of no rank strangers, my dad and I will sit together and play this song.
Bless you man. We weren’t this good but we did this every night. That’s how I learned!!! One day I realized I was better than him and honestly it was sad
I hope so
Heck yeah! Papa Strings FTW! 🕊
@@Gmoney375ps3that’s not sad. That’s what every good parent wants most for their children- that they live a more successful and comfortable life than they did and that they exhibit great talent and hard work
You will
I'll be 60 this May.. and been playing guitar since I was 9 years old... This concert brought tears to my eyes wishing me and my Dad could have played guitar and bonded like you and your dad did Billy., My dad's past now, and I would have loved if we could have ever played the way you and your dad did.. Bless you both
Good God, Terry's laugh is infectious. The musicianship, the energy, the attitude - I can't stop grinning ear to ear watching this.
Your assume I I wish l could play one song I have two types of cancer and can't use my arm would love to come as an watch if I had guitar I give it my best

Hang in there man, find your relief any way you can, literally! We're all on 'death row' but sure love living. Suicide ain't in my vocabulary... something's gotta kill me 'cause I'm sure not gonna die by choice!!! I love that you remind us, 'what if you have or had cancer, what would you do? That will get ya thinkin', hmmmm?
My dad taught me guitar basics. I was playing metal/rock most of the time. He wanted me to learn some bluegrass but I didnt think I would be into it. He passed away is 2018. After his passing I discovered billy and now I have a big catalogue of bluegrass songs I can play on guitar. I just wish he was still here to see me play them and even play together. This video makes me so happy and sad at the same time aswell. Beutiful video ❤
Got tears in my eyes
Yes, the feeling is bittersweet 😢
I love this. You can tell they spent a lifetime playing together. The way they play off of each other is unreal.
Many of us never got that quality time with our father and/or mother, but I'm not bitter, I still love them both and always will, even though they've returned to 'dust'. Hell, there are some 'blues' lyrics out there yet to be written and played. Be happy you are alive to laugh or cry!!! Life ain't for 'sissies', now is it?
I thought I'd watch a little of this, and then, just couldn't stop...What picking, is all about...Two great pickers and you can see the father and son love, between them...Damn I feel good having seen this...Thank you so much.
You can tell Terry has been picking for many years and is passionate about it! Seems like he is a real pro and should have been noticed long ago...but is so happy to just play with his son..he can't stop smiling and laughing and it touches my heart! So so so happy for the both of them getting there dues.
The chemistry you two have is remarkable , To watch you play off each other is one of the greatest picking events iv ever seen
Loved Mothers not dead!
Its very satifying knowing what the other half is going to do ...it comes from hours of playing togather
Yes the speed and accuracy of you both is astonishing.yall give me chill bumps its so cool how you 2 play.thank you both for making my day.
Their love for one another and the talent is just the most beautiful thing. It makes my heart smile.
Out here in Wyoming, wishing this hard wind would blow the virus away, your genuine music went though my old ears and straight to my heart , thanks, may God bless you.

TRUMP , 4 MORE YEARS!
Terry has a complete flatpicking songbook in his head. How he remembers all those lyrics is beyond me.
And doesn’t tune mid performance like all of us do. Terry is an inspiration.
It's called a lifetime! He's lived it
That’s how you know he loves music

I have listened to this more than anything Billy has put out with his band. This is just the best.
Their souls are on display here and the music is a perfect representation of their love for each other as father and son
Billy. Do recordings with your Dad . It is really something special you guys are doing
I second this, they need to make an album.
I agree, this is a wonderful presentation of what this country's really all about. Thank you Billy and Terry. And traverse city music community for supporting the arts.
Happy Father's Day Terry! World class dad who taught his son to be a world class musician and win a Grammy!
Beats 'ell out of slaving your life away for meager wages
If you want to smile for 2 hours - watch this!
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree . Like father , like son
Hearing them play together is something I Will never forget .
What's even more beautiful is Mr barber is Billy's step dad
It took me 20 minutes of listening before i even realized its a full set
I love Billy's dad's voice. I love that you can hear the years in his voice. It's aged like a good guitar.
Yes , reminds me of Ralph Stanley.
May this lift the hearts of this country during this Covid crisis! America's music and it's people shall march ON!!!
You know this is just a recorded version of a normal Saturday night at their house, the chemistry is obvious, it’s so neat to see a proud dad and son just enjoying the shit out of each other
I wish I could give you more than just one 'thumbs-up', watching them makes me cry happy tears, so beautiful!l
Hey Billie, did yer pappy beat you real hard if you got out of time? Or tune?? Just wondering ~
I would proudly sit at their house and listen
This was great. I could only dream to play a show next to my boy someday. Very cool to see the man that taught Billy.
My Dad, rest his soul, played ukulele. So did his dad, my Pop. I picked it up when I was 11 and learned a few songs. It made it easier to learn guitar a few years later. That was 60 years ago. My youngest son picked up guitar from me. But, I still do a mean 5 Foot Two on the Uke; and thank my Dad for giving me a lifetime of enjoyment, and thank Billy for carrying the torch. It's in good hands.
The entire audience: Dang! Poppa Strings has really got some chops!
Poppa Strings: Ain't my boy awesome?
This belongs in my all-time Hall Of Fame.
Father Strings and Billy Strings are all i need when im sick of.....living i guess. They play and sing beautifully and it just inspires me to go on another day and try harder. So thanks guys :-)
It makes me feel so connected to the now, the past, and whats to come. Stories from generations played by two people who bring them to life. I'm having a rough time lately and this just brings me peace in this moment. I'm glad you're hanging on too❤

So sorry for your loss, your son will live on through his music
@@IsaiahKeiser Thanks Isaiah... I can smile now when I hear his recordings and videos... I appreciate your nice message to me
@Malcolm Brewer, I wish I can have a good word to express my condolences and ease your pain. We should be destined to see our parents away when their times comes, it hurts but it is natural order. Any time opposite happens it is heartbreaking and unbearable pain for a parent. Cherish all memories is all I can say.
My daddy taught Terry how to play, I lost him to Colin cancer. God bless you brother
My deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers for you and your family.
Your interaction with your dad and the amazing music you two make brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for that. I'm grateful.

I agree I wish I could have sat with my father and done the same as he was a musician like myself so nice to watch this
Dude! ♥️ These two
Affected me the same way.
"Твое общение с отцом и потрясающая музыка, которую вы оба исполняете, вызвали у меня слезы на глазах. Спасибо тебе за это. Я вам очень благодарен."
Спасибо за музыку!
Just wonderful seeing a son and his father jam and enjoy themselves! Two Badass Dudes right here folks!
He’s not ashamed of his dad and for a guy his age in this day and time is precious 🥰
one of the best country music shows ever, Greetings from Austria/Europe. great
Beyond country… bluegrass in its purists form…
I like Terry Barbers voice high pich crackly blue grass sound . And great guitar picker .I can see where Billy learned his licks at a young age and became the talent he is today . It brings back precious memories of my dad and me pickin old gospel and country songs ,We weren't as good but the memories are . THanks for the music fantastic!
I just read that Terry is "just" his step-Dad and I think, that's even more amazing.
There is no step in that relationship.
@@chadtolley5884 unless it's all the twelve steps to freedom!
yeah they're not biologically related but Terry's been there since he was a toddler and Billy calls him dad so step-dad/dad, what's the difference in this case?
This just keeps the smile on my face. Keep playin boys😎
i wish my grandpa was still alive so I could show him this, he would have loved it. RIP grandpa, you got me into this music and now it just makes me cry tears of both sadness and joy at how fucking bad I miss you.
This is a grand example of what EVERY Dad ought to do... teach your skills to your children. I am wowed!!!
Exactly. My daughter - guitar, flute, violin, piano, vocals. I wish I taught her, she taught herself and I just record.
Just came across this father and son team, it brought joy to my heart God bless them. John from England.
Couldn't agree more John, with all of the shit in the World we need more of this, love Billy Strings, his dad is cool as well.
I doubt I can think of something more infectious than his dad's laugh.
This is so good. I cannot imagine the pride in Billy's father. Teaching him to play, and to see how far he's come. This is gold.
Wow, thank you Billy and Terry for this incredibly wonderful, extraordinary music-making. The gifts of father to son. Willie Nelson and Lukas come to mind as well.

@FalconerPhoto Is too his father; the man who raised him. That trumps biology.
Bringing tears. I really miss my Dad 😭 He totally supported me learning to pick my guitar on all those nights when chores were finished. I was pretty bad for a while, but he kept encouraging me. I love you so much Dad ❤️ RIP 💖 🙏🙏
Very cool performance by Billy and his Dad. I totally dig it!
My daddy taught me bluegrass and old folk, but I spent all those years on singing, and wish I'd worked on my picking. This is beautiful, glorious!
This is what happens when the student exceeds. I really miss playing with my father, nice job fellas.
Thanks for expressing your love for your Dad!
Your dad is exceptional Billy and soooo are you. So glad I found you in2023..
I hope his Dad joins the group in AUG. in Nashville and plays a couple tunes with Billy (Nashville, Tennessee is the next stop after Germany)
I'm so sorry about your Mother. That is SO hard to watch. But these two are very special!
I don't know how many times I've watched this, but EVERY time it still hits so well. This is such a treasure of a recording.
His dad's so over the moon to be strumming with his son. It's so cool to see!
This is definitely a highlight for Billy. You can see the respect he has for his dad Terry. Awesome job to the both of you for keeping blue grass alive and kickin'
Every day, I look for something new to me by Billy strings. And almost every day I find something.
This is my find today
Well, holy crap; filled with joy watching dad and son with such love for each other and for music...
The synchrony between father and son is what makes the universe go round!!!
That made my heart sing ✌️♥️💡😇💯
Billy Strings you are the best young picker ive heard . im blown away
what a gem!!!!!
Thank you for this ❤️🥰🙏🙏😍🌞🦅🎶
Well said❤
Whenever I start to lose motivation while learning guitar, I come and watch this. No matter how many times I watch these masters at work I never fail to get goosebumps. Can’t imagine how proud the ol man is. Their skill and synchronization is par to none!
Being from Texas I grew up hearing some of the best music. And I can say this is gold👍🔥🎸
Miss seeing them at the old barkus Park Billy was just a kid playing my old green acoustic
If you'd have asked me a few years back, if this would ever be possible again, I would have never believed it. Thank you Billy. And Dad
I don't want to make light of Billy's band, as they are all amazing talent, but nothing beats when Billy plays alone or with his pops.
He has a killer band. the banjo and mandolin players have some damn chops!!!
Or with Marcus King!!!!
He and his papa are like peanut butter and jelly
I think any comparison between this and him playing with a full band will be made by somebody who is missing the point. How cool is it for this young man to be playing for almost 2 hours with his dad? Check out the RUclips video that tells the story about dad‘s guitar. I don’t know for sure that the guitar that is playing is the subject of that video. But that’s kind of irrelevant.
What is relevant is what Billy did to get dad’s old guitar back
I truly appreciate the family Sharing their moments like this. And if this goes on on stage, can you imagine what goes on in the living room. Keep your eyes on their faces and body language. I’m not sure what else to say other then it brings a tear to my eyes to see this. And many many many thanks to the person who uploaded it

I have been trying to play guitar for 49 years and will never be in their shadow.
All any father can ask and hope for is that our child loves and respects us yet more so that they exceed our desired expectations we harbor for them... Terry so deserves to be both proud and satisfied with "his" son Billy. Living relationship trumps blood...
Man if I could only give a thumbs up every time I watched this.
Thank you Terry, for giving the world Billy! Billy STRINGS, what a phenomenal talent! Your legacy is a gift to this troubled world, going forward. So much joy lives in your music. XOX tt
I myself picked up the flat top from my father. One of the greatest things a father and son can share. To teach and to learn both are a labor, to do work in the pursuit of beautiful splendor like the making of music together is sure enough the reason for the word jubilee
Lest I forget, Praise the Lord!
Nothing beats family music like this. Terry has raised one hell of a talent ... and Billy just is in delight of his Dad.
