real young 14yr here, I adore these guys I love bluegrass folk rock etc.. stuff like this, so awesome! Music my generation listens to and creates doesn't feel real, this is good
Proud Canadian Senior here... I love these boys... excellent musicians ~ just incredibly tight. Playing percussion for 40+ years, I have a kit bag with lots of hand held instruments. I watch this video weekly when I pull out that old bag and jam along with these guys... with the biggest fucking smile on my face while singing along. I've been doing that since this video was first uploaded in 2020... it's now 2024. The Dead South is my happy place. Peace & Hugs to All.
Damn, this is real music.. I've gone to heaven and returned with these guys in my soul. Wow, I'm REALLY INSPIRED.........TDS I'm a fan from Australia 🇦🇺. Thank you.
My Daddy was a Bluegrass/Old Country Western musician who’s band used to play live radio back in the 50’s and 60’s in BC’s lower mainland. He played ANYTHING with strings and had the perfect voice for bluegrass harmonies. I grew up in a house of music and I attribute my eclectic tastes to that early exposure. On Saturday nights when “the boys” came over our little front room quickly filled up. No room for the amp, so it went out to the front porch. About 6 pm the neighbours’ chairs came out to their front lawns, and by 7 pm they were dancing in the street! What a magical childhood I had! You boys remind me so much of those good ol’ days. Thank you!
What a fantastic environment to grow up in. I remember my folks taking us to the counrty where there were cousins. We would pile into an old car and go to a community hall dance. The adults drank hard liquor from a quart sealer taken from the trunk of the old Pontiac. Mom's cousin chewed snoos . There was a hole in the floorboard where he spit his tobacco. When we would meet someone on the gravel back roads, dust would boil up through the hole in the floor boards. We learned to dance on these treasured occasions. The small children would fall asleep on our piled up coats in a corner. Best memories for sure. Mom's cousin played accordian, all his kids either played guitars, saxaphone, or another accordian as well as banjo. What id give to relive those wonderful times.💗💗.
Wonder if his path crossed my Uncle Sammie? He had a band that played around Chilliwack. Most of the time, Sammie played a beautiful stand up bass. My apologies if i spelled that incorrectly. Was delighted to find this Canadian band , i can relate to the style.👍
What a COOL story!! THX for sharing, made me smile, and member when I a kid! We used to go down to the cabins up on " stilts "!! HIGH RISES on the Merimac River!! Music be so loud, place would actually bounce!! Course untill dark, all us kids had to be outside or down at river, or jumping off the K Bridge, as long as we wasn't seen or heard for few hours!!❤❤ GREAT MEMORIES !!😊😊❤😊
15 year old guy from México here, who grew up listening to it's dad music, never liked modern music. Once we went to a restaurant and there was a TV playing music videos, I saw the In Hell I'll be in good company video and waited for the band name to appear at the end, when I got home, I searched them in RUclips and since that moment I've been a fan of this guys, that was 4 years ago.
I think that's because this sounds so pure and raw, contrary to all that overproduced music you hear on the radio these days: that's got no soul. A lot of music, be it country, pop, rock or other, all sounds pretty much the same, no matter who plays it, but it's bands like this that makes you hear musicians having fun and loving what they're doing. Original artists, like Tom Petty for instance, never sounded perfect and that's what made them sound unique. Those little hiccups, nearly missed tones or a voice struggling just to catch that one note gives their music that authentic feeling, something that's almost completely lost in this time of autotune, other effects and multiple recordings of the same lines just to catch that "perfect" moment. For me music shouldn't be perfect, that's the charm of it.
@@tjroelsma Popular music is going to be popular music. It has always been that. It's simple, appeals to people that want music more as something in the background that engages you into dancing or whatever. That's okay, society needs that kind of music too. Popular music exists, and music for real fans of music exists as well. This is the latter.
I feel their Symphonic nature plays a lot into metal... I have been into punk for a while, not gonna date myself like you did :P , but a lot that has emerged from bluegrass roots has become some good damn music! Punk/Metal aside they can play!
Me too but The Dead South, Amigo The Devil, Benjamin Tod, Tyler Childers are all beautiful and brutal. Nothing wrong with headbanging to sorrow, my friend.
@@JeremiahsArchive Thank you Jeremiah and happy to let you know you were right, I have indeed taken on a true love of this new (to me) genre. Thank goodness there are bands like this putting new life into this music.
I grew up listening to 1950, 1960 and 1970 music. Anything from big bands to Elvis to the Beatles and Led Zeppelin my Dad (William Ambrose) only listened to country. Bluegrass included. We listened to The Grand Ole Opray on the radio every week. Over the years I have discovered a lot of good music some that I never imagined I would like. The Dead South reminds me of my Dad and I am glad I stumbled on our Canadian boys
I came across this group totally by accident and I truly enjoy their music. Makes me have faith the younger generation still loves to make wonderful music.
No tricks and no gimmicks; just 4 absolutely shit hot musicians going for it full on and taking no prisoners. I hadn't realized they still made stuff this good. Thank you RUclips.
My good American friend just discovered The Dead South and said “I didn’t know Canadians knew bluegrass”! Yes we do! These guys are so tight and musically talented! This live show is better than any studio album! Banjo, cello, mandolin, guitar! Rock on!
I keep expecting to get a little burned out after watching and listening to these guys over and over and over again, but then I watch then again and it's like the first time all over again! These guys are awesome!
Banjo odyssey gets me everytime lol, you can see them trying so hard not to lose there shit through laughter. I absolutely love this band. Hope to see them someday
I had a mad crush on my cousin all my childhood. We took our clothes off out in field of wheat 😂 when we were 5 & 7 years old. Lol the mothers came running out and made us get dressed haha 😂
I've never heard of this Band! Found them by accident on youtube. As a Guitar player for 54 years who also plays Mandolin, Dobro ,Banjo etc. I enjoyed this very much... For me something new and different. Good job Guys...
I love their tempo changes. Sometimes it's fun just to slow the melody down and take it for a walk. Their interludes and breaks are especially good in a live performance. They know what makes a crowd smile.
Love these guys....they play so well together...nobody is trying to over power the others with their instruments...they are just all truly doing their part to play some great music..Shine on The Dead South.
they are very talented and professional, live isn't much different from recorded though, i feel like Im missing that little something that keeps me from being a "head"
@@nicholaiginovaef4861 sometimes that is a good thing. If I buy their music...I'm assured that they put just as much energy in that album as they did performing live...
Indeed, good lady! If you are familiar with Bluegrass, you will find that to be the norm. Very inclusive, and usually, everyone gets their turn at a break...the bluegrass term for solo. The whole idea is that the musicians are playing WITH each other, which to some people, including me, is the real draw of Bluegrass. That, and it just flat COOKS!!!
These guys are awesome. HOB is the best set they have on the internet, followed by red rocks, and all the German sets. But NOTHING beats seeing them in person.
Just watched the Fishman video where Mick Thompson raved about them. I'm no Maggot or anything but if Mick says it's cool, I'm going to at least give it a listen once. And this is fkn cool! J love metal and I love this too !! 🤘
66 yo Aussie here and same experience. Recently discovered this amazing band. Going to see them live in Mexico City in October. They are also touring Australia this year. Not sure if you can still get tickets. I think they are there now, March '24.
Music brings generations together. Who knew that my 31 year old son and daughter-in-law liked the same group as his mother. As a Christmas gift my kids took me to see this band when I went down to Charlotte NC to visit them. I had an amazing time and experience. Great show.
Once in a generation band right here. I grew up on traditional bluegrass and this is exactly the kick in the ass bluegrass has needed for far to long. It's like a perfect alignment of stars
Agreed, 110% Straight up hard-edged instrumentation with a pure, clear and crisp, classic Appalachian Mountains Bluegrass sound. The vocals are raw and edgy with just a touch of rasp to create as distinctively unique, yet highly desirable Bluegrass Sound. So much punch and drive in this group. Love The Dead South! Eddie Tapper, N. C. Bluegrass Fan
My daughter (30 yrs old) took me (60 yrs old) to their concert in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In the audience all shapes, sizes, ages and colours, all singing along. At least 4 encores. 👏👏👏
Thank god its not just me. Trapped in lock down for too bloody long in Northumberland. Now me and the dog are country fans and these guys are the best.
Only plus side of lockdown was stumbling upon The Dead South. I'm in Glasgow and they aren't coming to Scotland, managed to get tickets for their Manchester gig March 2022. Can't wait.
Found this 4 years ago working from home due to the plannedemic. This became my lunchtime workout music. Four years later, I'm retired and listening while enjoying a campfire and a glass of wine. It's still my favorite.
When this COVID-19 is over, I want to see these guys in Concert! I have been listening to their music for awhile and while hunkin down, I have been watching this video over & over..Thx to "The Dead South"!
People say that music is dead people say that Country has gone pop... I point them to these guys and many other bands just like them to know that music is still alive and well. It's just us who have lost the way and promote crap music. These guys are so much fun!
Man oh man. Love these guys music. They are the perfect combination of great live performers, instruments and vocals, but what makes it all possible is that they write killer, kick ass songs ! Their songwriting is over the top. The way they weave those minor chords really resonates with me . These guys are a big influence in my own songwriting. Great job guys ! Keep on, keeping on.
The more I listen, the more amazed I am by Crawford's banjo playing. I'm just learning, so his fluidity with both 3-finger and clawhammer are amazing. And I hear he only began playing banjo in his 20s, was a metal guitarist before that.
I share these songs every Sunday after-noon with friends and any-one close by in Windsor , New South Wales . All well recieved and enjoyed ... God Bless
What a great show, I love the Dead South. I am stuck in self isolation because of COVID exposure so watching this while stuck alone on Thanksgiving is pretty effing cool
How can you not absoultley love happy muscians. I love their music, don't even need the lyrics for a lot of their music. Ahh but they are Canadians and Canadians are very cool people. I am from New Zealand. I cannot keep my self from moving my feet and dancing with this music.
Pain creates such a loud sound. It echoes through the chambers of our years. Looking back, the quiet screams and the deafening silence are both unmistakably heard. Somewhere in the distance, only we can lay it to rest, and Live in peace.
Love this band! This band is the cream of the crop real musicians that can play the hell out of their instruments. Great show friendly band. Please please come back to Cleveland Ohio's House of Blues or any where near.
Have seen these guys three times.., the truly amazing thing in today's digital enhanced lame concerts and enhanced recordings for almost all types of music these guys are the real deal. They can play and sing!! This concert has the same sound as when I saw them in a 250 person Legion Hall in a working class town in southern Ontario on a recorded breaking hot steaming summer night with no AC to a hole in the wall punk and metal music hall in Toronto...Simply good tunes!! Thanks guys and Eliza Mary Doyle!
@@RScottMason I actually did get to see them this year. I'm sad to report that it was a terrible experience, mainly because of the seats I had. The venue was terrible. Seats were cramped and on top of that, whoever their lighting guy was (in-house or with the band) the lights were either shining directly in my face the whole time. If they weren't in my face, then there were terribly bright lights shining from behind the band and the band just looked like shadows to me. I was so disappointed. The music was fantastic though. Hopefully, they'll make it back this way again and I'll have better luck. I still love them!
@@RScottMason I agree with you. I got to see them in January...This awesome band came to a very small town on the coast of California...and blew the people out of their seats. I will patiently wait for them to come back...within a hundred miles of my home town and i will be there. I love their version of "People are strange" and the video is...WOW!
My hardcore Local Hawaiian friends are obsessed after I played this live concert for them a few weeks ago and are now trying to do a few ukele versions! Please Come to the Big Island for a relaxing jam session with killer food!
Hell, watching this nearly breaks my heart. Remember when we could stand together side by side, having a good time and enjoy some groovie tunes? And where are we now? I want my good times back!
First off, yeah, Dead South is some of the best music on tour today, seen twice here in central Florida and will go to any show locally. Second. the guys are class acts and love their fans, they heard it was the boy childs birthday and they came back out from the green room to wish him a happy birthday and sent down a guitar pick.
I am a relic of a 1943 birth; never listened to blue grass until I heard of Kate Wolf-RIP and saw how she merged folk & Bluegrass. This band is more modern & slightly different but reaching 7M views in 4 years tells me all I need to know to listen. Good music either way.
Never been into bluegrass or especially country but this 'new wave' bluegrass like The Dead South and Billy Strings, as well as a few others, are so amazing! Can't get enough! Just the chemistry alone between the members of the band, the sometimes tongue in cheek lyrics (reminds me of Primus a lot in a strange way and I've been a huge Primus fan for years) are so awesome!
The band sounds tight on this recording...awesome! I was glad to be at this show. It was a good time. Got to meet Nate checking into our hotel just before the show. The band's tour bus broke down outside of Boston. They packed up the equipment on a Uhaul trailer and tow it with a rental car. The fact they took the stage and put on a great show...awesome! Love The Dead South.
That is some awesome dedication to their fans! I just discovered them a few weeks ago and I can't stop listening to them. I have learned how to play the whole set on guitar if they ever need a fill in. lol
@@brendanoneal4513 man can you teach me? Haha I'm an amateur and every time I listen to Dead South or watch this video I just want to play and practice for eternity, wish I could play along. Nate's acoustic guitar is next level tight
@@danielhasacamera cello as bass. who would've thunk!? are the two in the middle related? I'm a musician and I know talent when I see it. I love it when a band can rotate various musical techniques around a center core theme. Example, the song Miss Mary it sounds like there is a sampler or a looper carrying the harmony. You can tell it's a techno thing but it works. Their harmonies alone are so entrancing! Their vocals are distinct yet blend so smoothly. Another thing I really appreciate is the wide range of complexity and simplicity. Some songs are super involved with really thick vocals and gut bunching expressions that make me feel like slam dancing wearing boots and a bolo tie. Then there are songs like "In Hell, I'll be in Good Company" with it's simpler structure of an intro (Dan whistling) and the same verse and chorus are repeated with no solo or bridge then the outro which is the same intro. In a digital world of click tracks, auto-tuning, and synths it's refreshing when a band deviates from the trendy styles, sounds, and methods or contemporary music production. Sorry for the loooooong comment.
What did i witness.... seriously this blew my mind!!! They are some serious performers!! I love the constant change of tempo and and levels and always harmony ahhhhh I can't take it!!! So much shit in this world right now. My soul needed them. Thank you for giving us this to relive. I've watched over 10 times!! I'll memorize eventually!!! See you in Nebraska some day 😊😊😊 Please 🙏

Love these guys....they play so well together...nobody is trying to over power the others with their instruments...they are just all truly doing their part to play some great music..Shine on The Dead South.
Spot on. I also love how there is no rushing the songs. They just let the songs unwind of their own account.
@@robertarisz8464 Well, Willy is retired but years ago he was hard to watch in concert. He ran through his songs like a stenographer(look it up).
they are very talented and professional, live isn't much different from recorded though, i feel like Im missing that little something that keeps me from being a "head"
First time to hear, they ate awesome. Raised in Missouri, My grandpa played all those instruments. Love the sounds, memories.
These guys are awesome. HOB is the best set they have on the internet, followed by red rocks, and all the German sets. But NOTHING beats seeing them in person.
I'm a Metal Head but I like this band and I can't wait to see them on stage in Paris.
Just watched the Fishman video where Mick Thompson raved about them. I'm no Maggot or anything but if Mick says it's cool, I'm going to at least give it a listen once. And this is fkn cool! J love metal and I love this too !! 🤘
Check out "The Hu". And agree, love these guys!! 🤘🤘💪💪✌️🇨🇦
As an Australian and 64 years young, I found these guys on you tube just love their music fantactic band keep on doing what you love🎉🎉🎉❤
Mate, I discovered them just the last weekend.
Rock on brother!!❤😂😂😂😂
66 yo Aussie here and same experience.
Recently discovered this amazing band.
Going to see them live in Mexico City in October.
They are also touring Australia this year.
Not sure if you can still get tickets.
I think they are there now, March '24.
Music brings generations together.
Who knew that my 31 year old son and daughter-in-law liked the same group as his mother.
As a Christmas gift my kids took me to see this band when I went down to Charlotte NC to visit them.
I had an amazing time and experience. Great show.
So glad i discovered these guys from the start, and they still keep it real. To all you broken cowboys around the world.. Cheers.
Once in a generation band right here. I grew up on traditional bluegrass and this is exactly the kick in the ass bluegrass has needed for far to long. It's like a perfect alignment of stars
Agreed, 110%
Straight up hard-edged instrumentation with a pure, clear and crisp, classic Appalachian Mountains Bluegrass sound. The vocals are raw and edgy with just a touch of rasp to create as distinctively unique, yet highly desirable Bluegrass Sound. So much punch and drive in this group. Love The Dead South!

Crack on I support you.
Here's clayton.im rather annoyed check Lee Davidson from alloa
I'm Hispanic. I love The Dead South forever!
My daughter (30 yrs old) took me (60 yrs old) to their concert in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
In the audience all shapes, sizes, ages and colours, all singing along. At least 4 encores. 👏👏👏
Wow.
Discovered these Doods early one morning during covid lockdown here in West Yorkshire England a real tonic in desperate times .
Thank god its not just me. Trapped in lock down for too bloody long in Northumberland. Now me and the dog are country fans and these guys are the best.
@@sesmok Northampton checking in as well. These guys have a fanbase ready to go in the UK!
Only plus side of lockdown was stumbling upon The Dead South. I'm in Glasgow and they aren't coming to Scotland, managed to get tickets for their Manchester gig March 2022. Can't wait.
@@matthewwilson3872 let's hope we see some form of normality by then , enjoy 😉
@@sesmok your dog has great taste , 😄
Just found these guys by accident. Great musicians and what a stage show.
Love it guys
Tears in my eyes and they're of joy, depression temporarily cured

Makes me believe we’re getting back to our roots. How refreshing and YeeHaw!
Yeeeeesssss!!!!!!!
Found this 4 years ago working from home due to the plannedemic. This became my lunchtime workout music. Four years later, I'm retired and listening while enjoying a campfire and a glass of wine. It's still my favorite.
As a guy with a seriously eclectic taste in music, an online friend turned me on to these guys, and I'm just seriously stoked!
Welcome back Danny, You can’t replace Danny
Just seen them at THE historic Ryman theater in Nashville TN. Drove 8.5 hours each way!
Wow! Mr. Cello player.....it's beautiful what you do! I love how you show the versatility of the instrument. AHHHHHHH!
Great lyrics, excellent harmonies, talented musicians. Love this band
These good ol' Saskatchewan boys knock it out of the park again!!! Love their music and it NEVER grows old!! Keep it real guys!!
When this COVID-19 is over, I want to see these guys in Concert! I have been listening to their music for awhile and while hunkin down, I have been watching this video over & over..Thx to "The Dead South"!
I can't emphasize enough what a blast it is to go see these guys live.
I WANT TOO SOOOO BAD!!!
Going to see them in January!! Can't wait!!!!
Lucky you! I really really hope they come to Greece one day...
Same! I saw them at Red Rocks and they stole the show. Absolutely incredible live band.
I usually don't go in for this kind of music, but I love these guys. Very talented.
yup
This isn't your average bluegrass, that's for sure. These guys take it to the next level.
Beautiful review.
Been watching this glorious show 2-3x per week while I work from home. How does Country/blues-grass rock this hard??? These guys are ridiculous! 🤠
The more I listen, the more amazed I am by Crawford's banjo playing. I'm just learning, so his fluidity with both 3-finger and clawhammer are amazing. And I hear he only began playing banjo in his 20s, was a metal guitarist before that.
I am amazed at how hard I’ve fallen for Dead South!! Such incredible talent. Please do a live show in West Palm Bch FL!
На одном дыхании - молодцы парни, будто в одном дворе вместе выросли - прямо в самое сердце попали, попали и сгорели.
Absolutely amazing when musicians can still sing and play their instruments to develop their own distinctive sound.
Love you guys
You guys soothe away the sorrows of life, and return a person to motivation and joy.
Thank you.
You're good medicine for the soul.
I'm right in the middle of that crowd with my friends. What a great show that was! These guys are such good musicians
There are so few bands I will sit and watch a whole concert but this is so easy. Fantastic stage presence.
I share these songs every Sunday after-noon with friends and any-one close by in Windsor , New South Wales . All well recieved and enjoyed ... God Bless
Oh Lord...I found new favorite band. Thanks for sharing this amazing performance. What a talent!
Next, check out their concert at House of Blues, Boston!!!!!!!!
Vy Páni ste jednotka, robte to čo Vás baví a hlavne nech vám to vydrží a budete nás bavit strašne dlho. Dakujem ...
This is easily the best thing ever uploaded to RUclips... never stop guys... you have something very special
I wholeheartedly agree!!!
I just discovered them. They have power, and so is this stage decoration. I like this
I' m from Catalunya. I discovered this band a few days ago. You are fantastic!!!
I'm from South Africa! Love these guys, cant stop listening.
I love how the back drop has the stained glass windows representing each member of the band . great attention to detail
Each one also represents a specific song and is backlit when they play that song.
Man! I'd LOVE to see these guys in person! LOVE them!
I hope you got to see them. HOB and Red Rocks and the German sets on the internet are great but in person is the best!
Saw these guys recently in Glasgow and had literally the best night ever. Fantastic live, hope you come back soon!
I have never heard a voice like his its really unique. Great band all of them are very talented.
Hell, watching this nearly breaks my heart. Remember when we could stand together side by side, having a good time and enjoy some groovie tunes? And where are we now? I want my good times back!
No Freedom for you.
Won’t be long this will not be live. ☠️
Just saw them live 3 weeks ago , packed crowd. Its back.
4 monts ago i wasnt into coutry music at all. Now I cant stop listening to this band! greetz from sweden!
And Denmark too
First off, yeah, Dead South is some of the best music on tour today, seen twice here in central Florida and will go to any show locally. Second. the guys are class acts and love their fans, they heard it was the boy childs birthday and they came back out from the green room to wish him a happy birthday and sent down a guitar pick.
I listen to this about once a week. It’s my go to for a nice evening at home and outside. ❤️
These songs are masterpieces
These guys are jamming.... we need more of these music..
I've watched this thru 2 times full blast dancing and singing right up there with the grateful dead. I'm absolutely in love
This is the most excellent show I have ever seen.... My favorite band and they hit a home run with this show.. PERFECT.
Thank you Robert.
That is some awesome dedication to their fans! I just discovered them a few weeks ago and I can't stop listening to them. I have learned how to play the whole set on guitar if they ever need a fill in. lol
@@cuckingfunt9353 This is honestly my favorite live performance of any band I've watched so far. These guys sound so good!
@@brendanoneal4513 man can you teach me? Haha I'm an amateur and every time I listen to Dead South or watch this video I just want to play and practice for eternity, wish I could play along. Nate's acoustic guitar is next level tight
I love how happy Daniel looked through the entire set
The dude is obviously passionate about the music.
which one is Daniel?
@@gayajay the stud on the Chello
@@gayajay He left the band.
Totally agree! I play them repeatedly for days at a time, esp. now!
Voices and musicians... Just beautiful...taking me into places
