well, from an 80 year old who used to promote a bluegrass festival, you are just the greatest thing ever. Solid musicians, great voice and harmony. I have just discovered you lately and you are my chair exercise music for the last solid week. I just pray covid is over soon and I can have the pleasure of seeing you live. I hired such people as Jim and Jesse, Del McCoury, Raymond Fairchild, The Lewis Family and the Osbourne brothers. You would have been on the top of my list.

@@thaddeusk4230 best bluegrass band in the world? That’s a bold statement. Especially in a genre like Bluegrass where there are absolute monsters everywhere, they just don’t lay it all out every time they get a ride. In a popularity contest, Billy’s band probably wins. As far as the best Bluegrass band in terms of how well they have mastered their instruments, The Punch Brothers will stand up to anyone, and that includes any of the old cats. I mean, with a line-up like Thile, Eldridge, Pikelny, Witcher, and Kowart, you’d have a hard time finding a better complete Bluegrass lineup today or yesterday. The only band line-up you might find that would stack up with The Punch Brothers would be the Bluegrass All Star band that consisted of Rice, Douglas, Bush, O’Connor, and Crowe. They weren’t ever really a “band” though, just a gathering of aliens that got together when they wanted to take a break from cutting records for everyone else. These guys are entertaining as hell to watch, but they’re definitely still coming into their own. The other names I mentioned are world-class, generational kind of talents.

I used to think I was a guitar player but after hearing Billy I'm a fraud.

I like both, but do see your point for sure. I wouldn't mind if Billy took up the mantle of the Dead someday for sure. For me these guys in their current version are a lot like New Riders of the Purple Sage. Would be so cool if they opened for Dead and Co sometime, or if Billy played an acoustic set with them.

I like Billy's crowds. Most of the time they are very appreciative but not too rowdy. When he wants to sing a ballad, they get real quiet so he can be heard. And something else, I have never seen alcohol on his stages, they drink water or power drinks. That makes them even cooler

Billy's voice and playing continues to improve and the other members are stellar performers . Just the jam for these isolation days. A must see live on the festival circuit one day if he ever comes back to NC or Virginia! The Pied Pipers of Bluegrass, they will move this music forward!! Enjoyed best with headphones unless you want to wake up the whole neighborhood!!

Black Clouds with Cory is transcendental. The listening and steel required to hold it together by the band when someone plays some non diatonic chords is incredible. I don't know how much of that was improv, but it seemed like alot. That was amazing to hear and watch.

Billy has been at the top of our playlists for about 5 years now and never imagined the band could be better until they added an extraordinary fiddle player to an already extraordinary band. There's been super groups before: Cream, Power Station, Blind Faith, The Highwaymen and The Traveling Wilburys come to mind. But for the music Billy's band plays the only comparison we can think of is Strength in Numbers, a band like Billy's composed of the absolute cream of the crop on bluegrass instruments but produced only one superb masterpiece of an album. That band consisted of Bela Fleck, Mark O'Connor, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush and Edgar Meyer. We would compare them very favorably. There's just no weak link. No one is just really, really good. They're all out of this world.
