Music can be different from this, but it cannot be better! We are so blessed to have had SCI all these years; now we get Billy Strings! And all that on a foundation of the Grateful Dead! I have truly lived in a golden age of music!
To give some context to this amazing video... This is the show that Phi Lesh was supposed to play with SCI. It was going to be one full set of dead songs with Phil. Phil got sick and couldn't make the show last minute, so somehow Billy was able to step in. Us fans were greeted with an extra special treat. When Billy was announced to come on stage, Red Rocks erupted. Chills as I write this. Enjoy!
Was born in San Jose and the years 69 thru 75 spent a lot my time in S.F. listening to the Dead and most of the greatest bands/music put out in Winterland, Kezar and Fillmore and throughout the bay area.. Cheese captured Estimated like no other! Kang and Billy are true jam masters. And most of the concerts... I actually remember!
So Grateful for modern technology for allowing me to experience the joy of music of a show I should have been at!!! Life is for the living, people!!!! Dead Straight!!!!!
String cheese makes me want to tour again! They rock as a band and with Billy and others! Thank you!! Saw the string in a backyard in colorado and knew Oh yeah!! We are gonna have some fun! A culmination of so many great musicians past and present. I love them all!!
so glad this vid made it to YT. I was there with my good friends and it was one of my favorite nights of music ever. we all flew in for the weekend so it was a journey well worth it
@@NBrew92 I remember a friend named Nick who I saw mostly at Jerry Shows on Market Street. Sometimes I got stuck behind Him and His huge frame. I'd be dancing to the left and dodging to the right trying to see the band till finally His girl and He would notice me back there and pull me in front of them. Sigh... I wish I still danced with them. I hope they got back together though I'm quite sure they must still be grate Friends.
I’ve been playing for going on 40 years. And I still find this inspirational. Eyes of the world - these guys killed it. As well as the rest of it. They really are incomparable. Even though the covers are compared to a lot. They bring a different mojo.
Too few bands add enough covers. Important to do them justice and I don't mean perfect copying. Those covers act on another level in winning new listeners or guiding the dosed from getting lost in a bad way in unfamiliar music. The GD probably understood that or at least unknowingly threw that safety net out there. These guys are one of the most underrated "jam bands" out there while there are others that seem far over rated.
I remember being a youngster at a lake in NH that over looked the once "man in the rock" off 93 and hearing of Jerrys passing.. it was the only thing talked or mentioned about that day, I understand why as he was one of a kind.... and his music... well that just speaks for itself.. you cant re create it!!!
Wow! I'm spoiled, I get to go all the time since it's 20 minutes from my home. In anyevent, when I go, I get the energy feels like my first, even though it's my 200th time. Glad you got to see a rippper
Eyes from 73 to 95 has always had me. 😆. I don't enjoy the more "cocaine" Eyes as much as the slower and expanding ones but the tempo could change noticeably from one tour to the next even in the post Brent years and they all sounded great to me.
'74 is the apex for EOTW in my opinion. Phil was at the top of his game and the band was locked into the groove. Freedom Hall 6/18/74 is probably my favorite.
His incredible Halloween performance really highlighted his versatility. Going back and forth from standard bluegrass picking to avant-garde bluegrass to hard rock; all with amazing dexterity. I think he's a pretty good bluegrass singer too; especially when sharing a stage with Del McCrory, who makes him kick up his game a notch.
I actually found it pretty sloppy. I mean he's good, even really good, but compared to some of his contemporaries on electric (and by that I mean other players about his same age like Matteo Mancuso, Marcus King, Tim Henson, Mateus Asato, et al) he is not even close. I know guitar is not the Olympics and "best" is subjective, but those guys clearly have a significant edge on the electric. That being said I really enjoy his style, his fusion of traditional bluegrass with hard rock and metal, etc, and his singing and songwriting are excellent. I just wasnt blown away by his electric playing in this set
I was in the fourth row, and if you decide to play a Dead set or two again, I am all in. Maybe a repeat with Phil without Covid, but this was so good we were blown away and so glad we decided to go on a fluke and get 4th row center, never eva miss a Sunday man.
Our community is still growing,.that's so amazing and beautiful. DH since 77. Hope to c many of u at Shakedown St, at Oracle. The Haight will b popping all weekend. Magnolia for a pint First one to say u red this post gets a brew on me.

I read your comment before listening and thought it was hyperbole. I stand corrected. It seems that Billy has the Meidas Touch; everything he touches turns to gold.
@@mikel5582 I figured it was hyperbole too, but wow very impressive, and Billy the Kid sure is amazing. I think he might be the best at playing lead guitar on Grateful Dead songs since Jerry.
