  • I bet you thought we were going to start making the dress this week, well so did I until my better conscience told me to make a mockup 😅 Mockups are super important for getting everything just right so I am going to be good and hopefully this will prevent any regrets down the line. I go on a brief tangent on the importance of undersleeves and you'll get to hear about my new house woes! There is also some prime sleepy cat footage. This is part nine of my series making Hannah Alexander's Alice in Wonderland design and my research and inspiration are drawn very heavily from mid-Victorian fashion, specifically the 1860s, since that's when Alice in Wonderland was written and what seems to most match Hannah's drawing.

    The dress is taking shape and it's gorgeous! I'm in love with those sleeves. Good luck with setting up your space, take all the time you need. If you're concerned about the next video, you can just upload twenty minutes of Baby Bet and call it a day, just saying.😉 Patiently waiting for the actual dress in all its glory.

    That's your first mock-up of the dress? That's remarkable. Love boning that runs from center front to encompass the collar.
    Best of luck for the move and move in. I worked in an office with mice. Let's just say I prefer my rodents housed in cages. All good thoughts for the exterminator and the contract work.
    See you when you get back... all else fails you could always do an update vlog?

      I think we may have timed it so I can get quite a bit done before we move so if I have to take a break it should only be a week off! And yes definitely prefer rodents in cages haha, I’m hoping that the cats will scare off any living mice that try to make a new home in our house 😅

    Moving always messes with the “sewjo”. Hopefully you new studio with be completed quickly for you but be completely safe as well. Don’t stress over the dress creation. We will be here to see when it’s completed. Health and safety come first from a healthcare worker. 🥰

      Aw well thank you so much I really appreciate it! 🥰I’m just going to keep sewing until we’re all packed up haha and then I guess I will get a forced break if my studios not done which isn’t the worst thing. Please also take care of yourself! Being in healthcare sounds like a nightmare right now, I hope you’re staying safe too

    Take all the time you need to have a safe, clean, happy place to sew! Seeing in less than optimum conditions is miserable and leads to frustration and sadness in my experience. Best to wait when you can only be frustrated by the project rather than the place you are attempting to create in. I will be excited for your videos no matter when they come out.

      It was so bad omg we started it like oh yeah this is doable then just found more and more mice rip definitely glad we decided to get someone else to do the rest 😅 thank you! As always, it was a delight to watch the work. :) I'm sorry to hear about your mouse problem. I can commiserate a bit with the no sewing space. This looks really nice. I laughed when you commented about artists and squigly lines. We are doing a Powerpuff Girls cosplay with some friends and looking at the cartoons their dresses are just… tubes. In cartoon world it totally works but in the real world it's actually not great :P
    It's always interesting to see people make adjustments to garments because I can always tell when there is a problem with my mockups but I can never tell what the fix is. Watching people who know their stuff is good for picking up what to do when similar stuff happens (or not so similar but still). What do you do with the mockup fabric afterward? Skirt panels are always great to make smaller things but panels in a bodice or sleeves are usually too small to do much.

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  2 года назад

      I reuse skirt panels like you said, to make smaller things, but with bodices I just throw them in with scrap fabric to chop up for things like bum rolls 😊

    The mock-up looks amazing! I can’t wait to see it finished 😍 I was hoping I could get your opinion. I want to make the McCall’s dress you use in this video. Do you think I would need to make a corset to make/wear that dress. Context- I am trying to make my own version of the dress from Labyrinth and I only have two months to make it max and would actually like to get it done in one if possible. I’m sure your really busy so I get if you can’t respond, but I appreciate you either way 🥰❤️

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much! And ah no worries I'd love to help if I can! I think if you put boning into the bodice and you aren't trying to reduce your waist much or at all then you should be fine without a corset. If you want more than like a half inch, maybe an inch max, of waist reduction you'd be better off fitting the dress to the corset. Either way I think boning is a must with this pattern! Adding boning channels to a lining layer would probably be the least visible way to include boning. Hope that helped! If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask!

    • @NatyRocke
      @NatyRocke 2 года назад

      @@moth.faerie this was super helpful thank you! I think I do really want a very exaggerated look so looks like I’m going to try my hand at corsetry (I’ve never tried it, but I loved your video on it too) I’ll have to try to get ahold of the corset pattern you use ☺️ I wish I could make the dress and then the corset in case I don’t have enough time, but that’s not really how that works 😂

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  2 года назад +1

      @@NatyRocke if you don't think your bust measurement will change much with the corset you might be able to make the dress without finished seams and take it in over the corset! as long as there isn't any beading or lace spanning the seams it should be a fairly simple alteration 😊
