THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS has been seriously under represented in film / video adaptations. I caught this by accident on television many years ago. It really took me by surprise how cleverly it was done and completely true to the book in its spirit. (The other good one for me was a 1973 BBC production with a young Sarah Sutton) Kate is so beautiful and correctly' Alice' in this!
Yeah it's my first time seeing an adaptation of the looking glass which honestly my favorite of the two books! The character designs are very pretty too

closest adaption on "Through the Looking Glass" on film I've seen - most of the cast is outstanding. I have always loved the novel "Through the Looking Glass" more than "In Wonderland", the book is superbly crafted with reversal observations - no other writer has ever come close.
Penelope Wilton and Ian Holm as the White Queen and White Knight respectively were always my favorite parts of this film. Love Kate Beckinsale's performance, too. A wonderful actress, as always. For those asking why Alice is an adult: my guess is that Alice's mother is dreaming of being the character in the book since she and her daughter had been reading the story a bit each night. Everyone's probably had a similar experience: watching a series on TV (or Netflix, Hulu, etc.) or reading a book and start dreaming about it as you're viewing or reading.
By far it is at least the best "Alice Through the Looking Glass" movie thats out there. and om mah gosh it's a Kate Beckinsale in an Alice in Wonderland Outfit ^_^
People talk about this movie having a grown up Alice whereas in the first one she's a child. If anyone paid attention she's reading a story to her daughter which would make her the main character so to others she's a child to us she's an adult
This has always been my favorite version of Through the Looking Glass. I think mostly because of the music. I think I watch it several times a week. Thank you for posting this.

I agree They changed the plot of alice in the wonderland/alice Through the looking glass.. The plot ‘Alice was struggling To understand the adult world’ Its annoying how they changed It just like that...
I never noticed that Tweedle Dee wore the Sgt. Pepper's cover on his chest when he dressed up for the fight! What a nice detail, so strange yet so fitting! Many works by the Beatles have so much in common with Alice in Wonderland...
This was one of my favourite films as a child..my mum got all my videos from charity shops and since we switched to DVD I’ve never been able to find this video. I’ve searched for ages trying to find it!
In my view, this is the best adaptation of the Alice story that there is. I bought it for my children when it first came out and rediscovering it here, all these years later, bring back those wonderful memories of watching it first time round. Thanks for uploading. Lots of fun and silliness, but wonderfully done.
REALLY GOOD MOVIE! Has been made so artistically,- and with the respect to the original source (Lewis Carroll's novel). Great respect to the team, which made it. They did not spoil the book's story, like many modern movies do, and did not loose the original meaning to the computer effects. PERFECT MOVIE,- THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING!
MaskedMan66 VERY true but I'm just smitten by her youthful quality here. She's still extremely attractive for a 40 year old! She is hotter than most 20 and 30 year olds haha
+snoutout Yea even if I didn't like the show, if Kate stars in it the show is worth it just to see her. Ha I mistakenly thought you meant she was 40 in this show. In this show she was 26, she was born in 1972, this show is 1998. I read your comment and thought no way she is 40;and looked it up.
Thanks for posting this up. I saw it once really late at night on Channel 4 in the UK(must of been in the mid 2000s). Great cast : Penelope Wilton, Kate Beckinsale, Greg Wise, etc. Kate really manages to pull off the blonde look despite the fact that she is a brunette. A really good adaptation, that manages to convey just how quirky the tale is!

Josephine Medina I think part of it is she is in Wonderland - a world of nonsense - and she is also inside her own imagination and so every time she goes through those portals as she passes from square to square she transforms into a new expression of who she is in her imagination until finally she is a queen.
CeltycSparrow The portals represent, quite cleverly, Alice moving from square to square in a chess game. Apparently a chess expert worked out the moves and it all makes perfect good sense in a chess match. Needless to say, Carroll was a great chess player. I see you recognized that; your remarks are very interesting. Methinks a psychiatrist would have a field-day interpreting Alice.
This version is much better than the last one of 2016 but still it isn´t exactly like the book. But the girl should have been the one through the mirror, not the big one. Alice is a child, not a grown up.
The difference between the 1998 movie and the 2016 movie is that in the 1998 movie, star Kate Beckinsale was pregnant with her now-17-year-old daughter Lily whilst in the 2016 film, star Anne Hathaway was pregnant with her son Jonathan (or Johnny for short).
