  • HalllOOOOOOO! (ween) amirite?
    This week I just felt like getting cozy and making some clothes and so I DID! I took some thrifted bedsheets and vintage fabric I had lying around and got to WORK. My body is so ready for autumn weather, now if only Earth would get the dang memo.
    I love you all, enjoy!!!!

      Yes! And the makes are “so stinking cute”!
      I’m super jealous of both of these makes. I think if the bottom front darts were lower and larger it would fit amazing and I agree 100% on the neckline. I typically avoid dresses but so cute!

    The reason the dress doesn't fit right is due to a defect on the pattern, not you. The original from the 50s would probably have fit you. Stephanie Canada has a whole breakdown on the flaws on the pattern that may help you fix that one if you want. :)

      If it is not available in your sewing supply store, I imagine the interwebs will have some on offer.
      That bodice should be fairly easy to fit. Getting the bust point to *be* at ones own bust point could be a challenge.
      I wonder if Rachel has created a fitting model of herself. That would make fitting easier.

    The reason I love your videos so much is just how casual you are about sewing. I adore watching people like Bernadette Banner for in-depth, detailed constructions and her vast knowledge of historical fashion, but when I see you just have the time of your life sewing a cute dress from a curtain or bed sheet you bought in a thrift store, that really speaks to my heart. I don't have the money for all of those fancy fabrics, but curtains and bed sheets? That is the language I understand, and it inspires me to make something out of fabric that would have otherwise gathered dust forever.
    Most importantly, you are unashamed of the little imperfections in your dresses and the often improvised nature of your sewing process, and you are SO RIGHT for that! As a perfectionist, I really need to pound it into my skull that it's so, so much more important to sew ANYTHING, even if the finished product won't necessarily be perfect. Because if I'm so afraid of mistakes, I won't ever start a project in the first place.
    So, I guess, thanks for being my sewing therapist, Rachel. You're awesome.

    This brought back memories. My grandmother use to use this exact dress as a crafting/painting dress. Snaps instead of buttons, and that way she could paint in oils or acrylics and not worry about getting paint on herself. The aprons would not cover all 360 of "oops" when painting. Accidental lean on a wet wall, butt swipe on a corner of a desk, or occasional drip from the hair onto the back of the dress.

    • @lesaschmidt7668
      @lesaschmidt7668 2 года назад +4

      @@callmecordelia7181 I did the cut and split method on the front piece to make it more pear shape friendly. It gave it way more room in the hips by splitting it towards the outside. Also by doing it there you didn’t have to mess with the darts. Also I had help pinning the darts on myself and not following the marks on the pattern because I unfortunately have a very large chest and this method was helpful. My first attempt was pretty much a failure, but I tried again with my adjustments and made a mock up and just kept playing and finally got it where I needed it to be. Good luck with yours!!

    • @lesaschmidt7668
      @lesaschmidt7668 2 года назад +6

      @@Sayyadina42 I have both and really there isn’t much difference, there is just more ease of the shoulders in the new pattern. Also they made the new directions more lengthy than the old. My best advice is make a mock-up of cheap bedsheets from goodwill. $3 for those and you should get 2 mock-ups, at least I did and I made the size 22. Which was a tad too big, but I needed that bigger size for my bust and hips. Good luck with your project!!
