Turning a lion into a bear....what kind of absolutely adorable magic is this?! Excuse me. I must now go scream into my pillow how extremely CUTE little Leo is
He's SO FLUFFY!!!🥰🥰🥰
I had a black Chow Chow. She wasn't your normal Chow, she loved people and dogs. In fact she was the queen of the dog park. She absolutely loved spa day. She would walk with a swag after her bath. I miss her very much.
I also had a pure black chow chow,(shadow). Not only was he dark like a shadow but he would walk next to me w/o a leash. He loved other animals, especially loved plays with cats. He would do his own thing but as soon as someone came over he would come and sit by my side the whole time to make sure I was safe. As soon as guest left he would go back outside. I haven't been able to get another dog since he passed because he took a large part of my heart with him. Fantastic memories of him. RIP dear boy
There’s a black chow that comes to the dog park sometimes. It’s actually very small but full grown and pure chow.
I raised them for fun long ago, love them, best dog❤
Why do I feel like black chows are always friendlier than their different colored counterparts??
@@felesnocismy thought exactly.
Dear Leo's parents,
Please bring him back so we can see him grow up!
Love,

Well Said, he is beautiful
I agree!
he is a cutie! Would love to see him as he gets older.

So refreshing to see a well bred Chow with an actual face. What a sweet little guy. "The I like you, I like you" in the bathtub was so precious!
Agreed, whoever bred him seems to be doing a great job at selecting parents if his temperament and conformation are anything to go by. We need to make longer muzzles "fashionable" again.
@@littlebear274 Agreed. Chows have it bad enough, and then you have freaking Pugs without a snout at all. Let them breathe!
He also gave so many play sneezes like 'is this playing? Seems like fun!'
Chows have always had a place in my heart after one showed up at our house carrying a kitten. My parents told me he carried that kitten everywhere and that he would let me ride him. I was quite young and small. So young that I forgot about him except in my dreams. A few years afterward, i told mom i dreamed about a big lion that gave me rides. She laughed and then told me about our chow who had his own pet.
My daughter had her bouncy lion too. My chow was the best dog I ever had.
this is up there with the best stories i've ever heard!!
So...Aslan spent time with you as a child...?! What a great memory for you to have. 💖🦁🪄
What a wonderful memory, thank you for sharing, you made my day 😘
That’s absolutely lovely ❤xx
We rescued a senior Chow Chow when I was a kid, he was found wandering the streets half dead after having spent his entire life as a fight/bait dog, he was covered in scars, mostly blind from untreated entropia, and practically toothless...he was the BEST dog, loved our cats and other dogs immediately, and was the most stoic and dignified old man and the utmost sweetheart despite the horror of his former life...we love and miss you Champ 🏆💕
I'm so glad you gave him a blessed life after such hardship. Good on you
@@simplifiedspike9702 thank you☺️ we had him for 8yrs and he ended up living to be 16+, and every day was all the better for having him in it
Never had pets - well hamsters and rat but... - but i love this channel. Vanessa is a pet whisperer and her profound love for these animals shines.
The other reason i love this channel are the heartfelt comments like your story. My heart swells when i read about such dedication and true love for a pet; even one battered by the cruelty of life. I honour you for giving him a loving experience that he almost missed.
@@dopaminey9946 thank you so much, that means a lot💕🥹
🥰 thank u so much for helping others
He’s not a very good ambassador for his breed. He’s making people fall in love with him by being cute, well behaved and so adorable. People will think Chows are easy pets.
I know what you mean. Well, at least he is showing people that _they_ are at fault if a Chow Chow isn't/wasn't socialized. Some people feel defeated before an endeavour starts, so they follow through only partially, telling themselves that it is just the breed. So with this sense he is doing an utterly fantastic ambassadorship for his fellow Chows. 🏅 ☺
I agree with you Snowball. They are really too much dog for most people. They are absolutely not an easy breed at all.
He's a puppy. It's different. If people can't figure that out, they shouldn't get any dog.
That’s people’s fault lol
@@TDoubleYu it is definitely people’s fault, and I don’t think anyone’s blaming the dog for what we have made them here. But unfortunately, a lot of these dogs have been bred to have a pretty dangerous temperament to people who don’t know better. And even with this puppy, we still don’t know if he’s going to stay this friendly and sweet after he hits pubertypuberty. And these dogs get huge so it is really important that they have a lot of work done with them at a young age to keep them from becoming dangerous.
one neighbor has a dark chocolate chow chow. he just sit there in the fenced yard and judge you as you walk by. and you BETTER walk by.
I can imagine that he has quite the death stare🤣
He’s probably saying: “I have a thick coat. And I’m not afraid to use it!”
Are you my neighbor?? 🤣
Lmfaoooo
@@nathanwilliams2152 Actually, Chows may use what is called their 'scissors bite'.
Kudos to breeders who focus on temperament as an important part of Chows' breed standard. This big little guy is a real ambassador. Thanks Vanessa
Omg why a breed that tends to be wary of strangers is so friend shaped? 🥹 He's the cutest boy and the waggy tail melted my heart 😭💖
Friend shaped, indeed!
He's gonna be a big ol bear when he gets older!
Because pupper
And they only get cuter 😢 I had one growing up. She never attacked but she wasn't fond of new people or other dogs. That was 30 years ago though, this sweet pup seems to have some aggression bred out of his line. ❤❤
If not friend then why friend shaped? (A FB group)
I lost my beloved Chow Chow of 13 years just last month. She was not the most friendly dog, very much disliked strangers, true, but her loyalty to me was unparalleled. I was the only one allowed to groom her but she was so well behaved, she would fall asleep during brushing and blowdrying, even if her coat had some knots.
I miss her so much, she was like no other dog I ever had 💕
So sorry for your loss....
The love of a good dog is an amazing thing, especially if they are a soul match. I hope the joy being blessed with your Chow Chow is now surpassing your pain, I still miss all my four legged tail wagging gifts., but the love of them and from them is forever🙂
i’m so sorry
I’m truly sorry for the loss of your beloved pet 😢 xxx
My neighbour have a 15 month old Chow chow called Teddy, she is also a sweetheart. I'm 67 and can walk her twice a day, she also lives other dogs and people. I think responsible breeders are finally showing through. Xx
🥲 my childhood chow chow was named teddy! sadly my parents put her down after she bit me
My neighbour has a 10 yo chow female. She's an absolute love bug.
@@amandak.4246😮
@@amandak.4246 that's a shame, was you annoying her or was she an aggressive one, I had to have a dog put down for biting and it broke my heart, especially as I'd told my children not to take her to the park with them and my newfie, but they sneaked her out.
@@amandak.4246 Sorry to hear that. When I was a kid, my Chow-mix bit me when I tried to break up a fight she was in (stupid of me, I know), and I *_refused_* to let my parents euthanize her. She ended up living for another decade -- in a separate kennel built just for her -- until we _finally_ put her down at age 16 because she'd had a bad stroke and all her senses were failing. She was never a nice dog… except to me… but was my baby-girl.
That is a WIGGLE, he is gorgeous. And he KNOWS he is cute.
HE IS A PRO AT THIS ALL READY.
Oh he's beautiful. Looks like Leo's people are being responsible with him, and I suspect he provides them with a fair bit of entertainment too.
He looks like he's a total goof. An adorable, super floofy, hilarious goof.
By temperament alone you would think he’s a Labrador not a Chow Chow 😅
He seems like a well socialised pup. His family are doing a great job with him...and to be fair he does look like a little Simba 😂
Leo's name suits him. He looks like an adorable lion cub. What a sweet puppy giving kisses. Such a good boy. Very smart pup. He was paying very close attention to what Vanessa was doing. Leo has a little puppy crush on his groomer.😊
I had a wonderful Chow Chow/Samoyed mix who lived to be a bit over 16. He was amazing and was so sweet and zen. The greatest personality. Over the years he reacted badly to three people. I live in the city so he was always around all kinds of people and dogs and pretty much liked everyone. The three he didn't react well to turned out to be very bad people. He did not bite them but I know if they had come closer to us or did anything threatening he would have attacked. As it was he just got close to me and stared hard at them with ears back and barely showed his teeth while holding very still. They backed away but as it turned out... all three were wanted for violent crime. One had murdered a night manager at a Hampton Inn. But he was very sweet to kids and elderly. I miss him every day.
We have a Chow/Samoyed mix!! They're absolutely awesome, aren't they? Ours is very energetic & loves most people - but she definitely knows who is not safe to be around. She lets the wrong people know where they stand with her & our family. & she has LOTS of fur. LOTS of fur....I know your pup was well-loved & you have many precious memories of him, they definitely make the world a much better place ❤
@@AJ_SouthernGal it's a fabulous combination! Winston really got the best of both and was the most wonderful boy. The hair... oh yeah. They shed year round but when they blow their coat, you have to see it to believe it. But at least it doesn't imbed and you can literally scoop it up. I have a corgi/jrt mix now and he sheds too. But nothing that the fluff Winston left. But I'd deal with all the hair in a heartbeat to have another Sammy/chow mix. And yep... they know when someone is a bad person.
@@lizkrinsky5209 Winston sounds like he was an amazing boy! Yes, the Chow/Sammy personality is an interesting combo. Corgis are great, too, a friend fosters them and just loves them. We got our Chow/Sammy (Zoe) from a rescue, she, her momma & sister were found at a truck stop. A Chow rescue fostered them, my husband wanted another Chow & found her through them. He was prepared for her energy, but not the furnado that enveloped him during her first few baths 🤣 There are a number of Chow & Sammy rescues out there, so if you seek a sibling for your Corgi that's a great way to go ❤
@@AJ_SouthernGal omg... the furnado!!! True! So true! I got Winston from Save the Animals Foundation in Cincinnati. The sweet boy was a year and a half when I got him. They had him for six months and no one even looked at him. People would see the solid black tongue and steer clear because chows have such a bad reputation. He stood about ten feet from me and gave me a real up and down look, then gave his magnificent tail a little shake and trotted up to me, sat down and out one paw on my knee while gazing into my eyes with the soft dark brown eyes and that Sammy smile. No way could I not take him home with me. But his first bath... omg. Hair everywhere from the floor to the ceiling, and when I started brushing him I thought O M G! I need to do this outside. So we went on the deck and I had a pile of fire that looked like one or two more dogs. I went inside to get a garbage bag before it blew to the neighbor's yard but as soon as I stepped inside, birds from everywhere swooped in and took all of it! I guess a nest lined with Winston's undercoat was pretty luxe for a bird. My Fred, the corgi/jrt mix is now going on twelve and he's been an only pup since 2018, and he isn't fabulous at sharing..he plays well with other dogs, but he doesn't want to share me. Plus I work as a live-in caregiver and often goes to work with me. He loves older people. I couldn't take two dogs with me.
I had no idea there were chow/sammy rescues! That is great to know because that combination is magical. Corgis as well as JRTs are order special too. Corgis and chows actually share some ancestry as they were bred with spitz types. Let me know more about the rescue please. That is good to know. I don't mind life with a vacuum in one hand and a lint roller in the other. They are soooo worth it.
I thought at first you were saying that murderer was very sweet to kids and the elderly. But I figured it out. Lol
My chow Ruby looked so much like him. She was very sweet and not aggressive at all. I started grooming her at 10 weeks, and for the rest of her life, she would run to her groomer, because she loved him madly.
My daughter's babysitter had a gorgeous & sweet Chow (Sasha) who was slightly more cinnamon color than this cutie. She loved her family (5 kids) and the 4 kids that went there for daycare. My daughter would sit and pluck the wads of fur off of her in the spring/summer when she was 'blowing' her coat, and Sasha would lay on her. Sasha was pretty calm & laid-back, not aggressive at all.
Aren't they the most endearing fluffy bright-eyed puppies at 8 weeks old, when their ears are still folded down? At that age, my red boy already had alert pride, and a mind of his own!
Vanessa, putting the happy hoodie on Leo: Relax. You can breathe.
Leo, thrashing his head around: *NO I FLUFFING CANT.*
I love Vanessa's talk, both to the pet and to us viewers❤. She is so genuine 💖
People who deal with those who have dementia could learn a lot from you You carry on conversations even though the patient can't understand. You are insistent but still respectful of their feelings. Firm, yet gentle. When I get old and addlepatted I hope someone like you comes and washes my hair at least once a month 💇
TIL the word “addlepated.”
Beautifully said! I care for my mother with mild dementia and carry on with all sorts of conversations.
❤🙏
With a happy hoodie? ;)
My Pittie’s best friend was a mixed breed-mostly chow (coat, tongue classic chow). They ran off once and rolled in something skanky, probably of human origin 🤢. After securing chow dog to a tree with a hose, I took my dog home and bathed her immediately and returned within a half hour and started washing chow dog. I rinsed her for what felt like an hour and finally gave up. I think I overdid the soap because of the yuck factor. A few days later, we were back up to play and chow’s human, the chillest person in the world, was sitting out there with us. It started raining and the chow started foaming. My friend says “Why do you suppose my dog is frothy?” I told him the story and he laughed and laughed. We called it the bath that kept giving after that. Vanessa was probably a tween when this happened. I know better now😁
It's hilarious seeing him with his head down in the hoodie, like he's saying "MO-O-OM! I look like a dork wearing this thing."
He wants to play. He is going to be a Big boy! But what a fluff ball
and he decided on Soak the Groomer
Eh. Could have been worse. He didn’t choose “Attack the groomer.”
When I was a teen I rescued a black Chow from where my cousin had been living and he let her in the yard when he decided to go back to North Carolina. We didn't even know she was there. She ended up being allergic to fleas. We had her on flea stuff but a flea just had to jump on her and she would itch all her hair off. This puppy attitude remains me of her as a puppy. She loved our family. She liked everyone as long as they came into the livingroom and sat down on the sofa. If we didn't like you enough to have you sit you was not welcome. She also loved everyone's babies and kids. She was very protective. Once we was baby sitting someone's baby while she was working next do where my dad worked. The mom came to get the baby. Shadow (my chows name) got between the mom and her son. She didn't growl but you could see she was saying you didn't sit on the sofa this time and this is my baby. I miss her even though its been over a decade since we lost her. She was almost 17. The vet had said we would be lucky if she lived 9 years because of the medication she was on. She died just weeks after my dad. She was my dog but my dad had her heart.
Apparently Chow Chows are either mean or friendly without much in-between. My late brother's first dog almost 50 years ago was a dark red Chow Chow named Teddy. Fortunately, he was an absolute sweetheart who just wanted to be fussed over and adored by everyone, and who also thought everyone who came to the house came to see him, which could be an issue. He loved other animals and could not understand why some did not love him back, especially my anti-social older Calico cat, who hated pretty much everyone except those who fed her. She never did make peace with Teddy in the eight years they lived together, but after her, my mother got a pure Silver Persian kitten who thought Teddy was his new mother and they were the best of friends for the rest of Teddy's life.
Ahhh, I got so much joy from reading your post, Paul! Thank you very much!
It depends, they tend to love people in their inner circle and not be a huge fan of people outside of it
He is the cutest little bear I have ever seen. Oh, I would love to play with him. He’s like a live little teddy bear full of cuteness
Look at the face.
No,my is the best!
No, MINE'S the best!
All the chow chows I've ever known, including the one we had with my parents, were absolute sweethearts and very smart. They're like cats... they get it, oh they get it, but they don't aim to please in the same way other dogs do. They do love you though! Our Chow Chow would insist on paws-on-shoulders hugs whenever we would come home. Then she would go off to do her thing. Still miss her. They're fantastic dogs for loving, intelligent people. She was really smart too. I have many stories about her.
The tail wagging is cherry on top of this puppy’s cuteness.❤
I have a 8 year old Chow girl and I not only love her, but I also respect her very much. She desirves it so badly. She's agressive towards strangers that enter the house, but never towards family. She's a very good chill girl that is never in your face, but always has your back. She is smart, she never ruined anything in our house, she is very patient with the other animals and she's literally the best dog I ever had. She's not affectionate, but instead oh so loyal. She's something else. Absolutely special. Here's a poem I found and is the definition of the Chow:
God was finishing his creations when an angel walked past.
God said to the angel: "The best will be last.
This animal we create, will be loyal and true,
With a heart of pure gold and we’ll paint his mouth blue.
He’ll have great intelligence and a mystery within,
And when we finish his face, we’ll give him a grin."
God finished his creation, then knelt on one knee,
And whispered to him what his purpose would be:
"You will take man my love, when I set you free;
Then you’ll turn one ear and listen for me. I’ve given you a coat that will make kings bow.
For this you’ll be captured and known as "The Chow".
And whenever I read this poem, I get very emotional 🥹
What a fluffy dog! Only 4 months old and already getting his not-first groom!
My Aunt Betty and I saw someone GIVING AWAY puppies in a parking lot years ago. I couldn't believe she did it but she took one!! He looked EXACTLY like Leo. She named him Baby and his personality was absolutely PERFECT. She would PAINSTAKINGLY scissor cut him (for hours) in the front yard. He was so patient. We were all blessed to know him.💙🐾
The way he wags his little curly fry!!!
😍😍😍
NO HE'S TOO FLUFFY AND CUTE I CAN'T HANDLE IT
My father had a Chow Chow named Mee (Bear in Thai) and he was guarding our house perfectly. No one dared to come close and even people who knew him were a little afraid. He was super sweet though and protected me like a true bodyguard. I miss him!
I had a Bear, too. I wonder why that's such a common name for Chows.
@@FakanIt looks like a bear lol
I love his wags and how adorable he is. His family is lucky to have him and it's good that they're socializing him so young. His name is perfect for him.
His head hair looked like one of those funny chickens right after you took the happy hoodie off 😂 He is so cute!
You mean a silkie?
He is so curious. His expressions are everything.
Leo is the first Chow I’ve ever seen that didn’t send my heart into a panic - had a bad experience with one when I was a small child…. When I was a groomer I would not work on them. Leo’s face melted my heart instead 🐶😊
I also had a bad experience with a neighbors chow chow when I was a little girl. Now many years later still not a breed I would want.
But Leo could change my opinion 😊.
Same. There was a chow in my neighborhood that was so mean and aggressive. He ended up biting one of the neighborhood kids. I've been wary of chows since then.
I had a very bad experience with a chow chow as a teenager when a friend and I was walking our dogs. This chow chow came from under a huge bush after we had passed and attacked my dog from behind. I got tangled in the lead during the altercation. Had it not been for a man living on that road I know it would have been horrible for me and my dog. The owner did not do anything to try to control his dog. My dog was pretty badly hurt and I never walked on that road again. I love dogs and take having a dog as part of my family seriously. But, I personally would never have chow chow. I, to this day, give them a very wide berth and that incident was 60 years ago.
Oh my heart.
My chow chow Riley was also just like this. Proper introduction and she absolutely would love you to death. You had to pass the sniff test, and then right back to speed bump mode. We called her the speed bump!
I too applaud the parents of the Chow Chow for how well socialized he is!!! they can be really amzing when they are socialized but, when they are not it's not loke when a Chihuahua isn't- they're bigger dogs who can do damage when they turn on you and they don't always give warning, they will just go for you! I worked at an vet ER and we had a 35lb 6month old Chow Chow come in and she was going after EVERYONE!!! and she gave NO WARNING GRAWLS OR ANYTHING before lunging towards people or snapping!!! we had to have the owner muzzle her so we could ge near her to do diagnostics (which included picking her up to put on to a table, much to my protest, and puthing her back down, in a small room, I still blame the doctor for this part) as we were puting her back donw to the ground she some how got her muzzle offand went for my face- she bit just below - missing a major facial nerve; then her teeth wen into my lips- and she pulled, I'm am just so luck she didn't shake her head at that moment....or my injuries would have be horrific instead ofthe small not too noticable scare that I was left with and the PTSD that I didn't realize I had until I was stuck holding down another dog who got their muzzle off a couple years later, lol(i laugh so I don't cry) Oh, and all that happend in front of the Own! the doctor had her there because some aggresive dogs are better if the pwner is present...yeah, not her. AND please understand I DO NOT BLAME THE DOG, I blame the owners becauseI know with some work they can be the sweetest giant fullballs ever!!!! I feel bad for the dog because she can't get medical care when she needs it because the owners won't scoicailize her. She was only a puppy when this happend if the had taken her to a trainer and started taking her around peple otherthat their family she wound be like that. But they didn't and she got worse...she was fired from her vet that she has as a puppy(and a few more from what I had heard because of her behavior- because she is so dangerous) and she needed car again a couple years later I went to go let the know it would be a little bit before we could see her (and she growled so low you could feel it) and they left without having her seen.
Hiiii! Chows can be very tricky and I just wanted to share my own situation! Ive had my girl for 5 years and she loooved the attention of strangers and almost never barked at them. Then down the line some people (usually men, sometimes drunk) just didnt know how to pet her or even read her body language, so she started snapping at people (not like biting or anything, just suddenly starting to bark). So even sometimes it not even the fault of the owner! Their temperament is something else and sometimes they just decide that enough is enough. I also dont mean that there arent some bad owners.
So sorry this happened to you.
😧 That’s awful! I’m sorry it happened to you. Why such people are allowed to have any animal is beyond me.
@@Beth_Alice_Kaplan
Are you going to step in and not allow them to have the animal they want? That doesn’t sound safe.
Whoa! Scary! I don't think I would have ever been around her agan! Not even in the same room.
I’ve never seen such a smiley wiggle butt chow before!!
He’s adorable 🥰
Kudos to his family for raising him to be a gooboi ❤️❤️🐕🐕❤️❤️
My mom had a friend who had a chow chow. When my mon went into the Air Force for a year, she put my siblings and I in care of her friend. The dog, who was already I think seven years old accepted us without hesitation. Everyone else, though? They got some woofs and growls. She never attacked anyone and could be in the same room as strangers, but she was indeed wary of them. She was very protective of us kids, so perhaps that could be part of it. She also had a habit of leaping like a deer over fences 😅. I guess maybe one day she got too old for that, though, as it didn't happen too often and it was before we lived in that home. Good ole Thea has long since crossed the rainbow bridge but I miss that dog.
❤❤❤
I had a Chow Chow, she’d never growl at anyone she knew, and would only let out a low warning rumble to new people. But as soon as we said “(her name) it’s okay,” she’d go up and sniff them, maybe lick a outstretched hand then go lay back down, keeping an eye towards them. She always slept wherever she could see all exterior doors.
My mom and I would jokingly tell people who were afraid of her that “her? She might lick you to death, it’s the cat you have to worry about.”
At work one of our client’s had an elderly black chow. They would bring her for their financial planning apts. she would spend the whole time at the front with her head in my lap under my desk. I miss that adorable chocolate marshmallow. I used the bring treats in just for her. When she passed my boss and I cried. He was close friends with her owners. ❤❤😢😢
Leo: "I may be small but I bark loudly and I carry a thick coat!"🤨
🤣🤣🤣
-Leo-dore Roosevelt. Hahaha
😂
I understand that reference as an APUSH student! Carry a big stick TDR alright.
I miss my Chow, Mr Teddy. He was basically a cat in a dogs body, super stubborn but he was my best pal for 13 years. The coats are super hard work but so worth it when the bath and groom is done.
Leo, gosh what a heart breaker he is so cute! As a teen my brother's friends had a Chow Chow and he went everywhere with this guy. My mom was very afraid of him, but I thought he was nice. The owner said I was lucky because he didn't like everyone. He followed me all over in our backyard. No one knew I had a couple of slices of cheese and was feeding him little pieces.
Leo is adorable 🥰 I had a golden retriever/ chow mix. She was the very best! I was so grateful I had 13 years with her. So nice to see a well behaved boy! The curly tail, purple tongue and personality is what makes a chow 💞🥹
Love how he had that 1980s Tina Turner look for a bit as you took the hoodie off! He's so dang CUTE!!! I've never met a "mean" Chow, but I know that just as you said that is entirely due to lots and lots of hard (and consistent) work on the part of the owners. What a sweetheart he is
It's also careful, responsible breeding. Chow Chows in the U.S. which are not from show dog lines can be very dangerous despite extensive training and socialization. Breeders bred the most-aggressive Chow Chows for decades, so it's still a problem.
My former stepmother had a Chow Chow rescue. Charlie had been found on the side of the road. Owners never found. Personality-wise, Charlie was extremely Zen and chill. Cats didn’t bother him, nor did most people. Definitely not the norm for Chow Chows.
Absolutely the norm for chows! I’ve had four, & fostered dozens for a breed-specific rescue. They are chill personified! ✌🏼
The little bear/lion of the dog world ❤❤❤
Poor Leo looked so defeated during his blowout!
My brother and I grew up next door to two chow chows. They were adorable and the sweetest dogs -- for us. Other people? Yeah, not so much. The female chow chow had puppies ON MY LAP one Christmas morning (we were dogsitting). I was 15. I could have lived without that experience, but it showed how much they trusted us. Wonderful dogs!
No ugly phase for this pup. He'll always be gorgeous
i love that he has the longer snout and isnt so wrinkly and short snouted as some chow chows that i have seen recently.
What a sweet boy! His little waggy tail is super cute!
What a sweet, well-behaved boy! His owner(s) are doing a wonderful job. Leo is just adorable! 🥰
When I worked as a vet tech we had an adult Chow who came into the practice on a regular basis and only liked one person in the clinic which was me. He would growl and lunge at everyone else who worked at the vet's office but just wanted to give me kisses and cuddles. Don't know why I was the chosen one but it made it easier to get through his appointments if I was in the room.
Our first dog was a Chow Chow. He was loyal, loving, playful and very protective of the family. He saved me when I was attacked by a stray dog in the yard. We lost him in 1978 and I still miss him dearly.
Awake at 2am in Australia watching the gorgeous Leo..... Love your videos
Me too. 😂
Awake in Australia at 5am 😂😂
We had a chow chow from 12 weeks to 16 years, and she passed away, and we miss her so much. Little Leo looks exactly like her.
They're attempting to breed out the aggression in Chows.
I try not to hold a grudge, but the only dog to ever bite me was a chow chow. I see the appeal of a giant fluff. Bless Leo's sweet heart.
Canadian and European breeders are having more success breeding non-aggressive Chow Chows. It's harder in the U.S. because the non-show dog Chow Chows here were bred specifically for aggression for decades. It's sad and frustrating.
The only dog that bit my nana was a Chow, she was wary of them the rest of her life
@@samsilly123456 honestly I don't blame her.
Chow chow, more like chew chew
My aunt had a chow chow named Boonie. She was such a sweet and intelligent dog. Every time she saw me, she would wag that tail so fast and run like mad back and forth through the house. The last time i saw her was when i was 10 years old. I got one last moment with her 15 years later. my old friend walked up to me with her tail wagging and when i knelt down to greet her, she sat down and rested her head on my shoulder. She suffered from bad arthritis and ultimately had to be put down for complications of old age and uterine cancer. Im glad i got to see her again before she crossed the rainbow bridge. I understand that chow chows may be difficult, but Boonie was such a friendly, well-behaved dog. She rarely ever barked and was always happy to sit by your side.
My grandpa was a dog trainer and he said the most challenging dogs to train for him personally were Chows. That being said, he still loved all pups
Really? Not huskies or afghans?
Looool they truly dont give a fuck about commands 😭😭
@@ferretyluv Chow chows are *extremely* stubborn when they want to be. They're often one-person dogs too, sometimes a couple more, so they're not likely to care about impressing a trainer who's most likely a stranger to them.
@@ferretyluv nope, Chows. My grandpa had a soft spot for sled dogs. My childhood dog growing up was half malamute and they had the sweetest bond. She'd get so excited when he'd visit
My chow is the sweetest, cuddliest, most affectionate and energetic dog who LOVES being groomed. Being well socialised from an early age, and being bred for temperament mean not all chows are alike. What a beautiful boy this one is.
What a good boy! Happy to see his current caretakers are being responsible and trying to get him accustomed to grooming and strangers so he is set up for success in the future. Here's hoping he continues to be a well behaved pup!
Oh my goodness the cheeks and fluff! He's so cute♥️
15:49 Framable moment. I paused and zoomed in to appreciate the paw and paw tattoo next to each other
Ooo! My favorite breed! Kudos to Leo's humans for early grooming and socialization. Muzzle resting in hand for face shampoo was just so sweet.
Every Chow chow reminds me of Mrs Bee. My grandparents had an elderly neighbor with the friendliest chow chow in the world. She adored us kids and we loved her just as much, she would come through the gate between their yards and play with us for hours and snuggle with us when we weren't playing. I miss you Mrs Bee.
Our Chow Chow was absolutely sweet! She was my first dog, and, when my husband came by to show her to me (she was the runt of the litter,) I fell in love. A woman who worked for my husband gave her to him. She had a foot disfigurement that made her walk like she had a bent frame (car reference.) That made her all the more adorable.
She lived until she was 16 1/2, and died fifteen years ago. I miss her every day.
She did not like to be brushed, but I did it anyway, and we would start at the southwestern wall of our living room, and she would scooch, with me brushing the entire time, until we ended up in the Northeastern corner of the living room.
I had a group of friends who would come Saturday mornings and, at the end, we would stand, join hands, and pray. She was always at the center of the ring. It didn't matter where she was, as soon as she heard us standing, she would get in the center.
One thing about Chow Chows is they can get "bloat." We finally brought her in for surgery and that fixed the problem.
omg he was super adorable. His coat was so fluffy it was amazing. And his temperament was awesome. So Chill.
I’ve had chows all my life and they’ve all been good tempered even the one that was rescued. My grandson now has one, Barney and he’s exactly the same temper as Leo and Barney is 4 this year.
Oh I bet its lovely to see the love of the breed get passed on
@@ainovuorenmaa9786it really is! He’s now trying to persuade my daughter to let him have a black one as well (Barney is red).
@@simonevernon106 Oh I have a shortcoated black one and I hear all the time " really? Shes a chow chow? "
No, Im lying to you for fun!
@@ainovuorenmaa9786 I had friends that had a short coated red one and two ‘normal’ coated black ones and the black one fur was so much softer than all the reds I’ve known.
My first Chow was so perfect that I didn’t think it would be fair to get another.
Leo reminds me a lot of her. Cutest stinkin’ pup ever! 🐾
Vanessa, you're not short, you're fun sized. 😁
As a fun sized adult. I agree. I am tiny enough to buy kids shoes.
Bravo! I am happily married to a wonderful, patient, fun-sized woman! 😊
I had two Chow mixes. I miss them both so much. They are my favorite breed, and my two loved everyone.
His face when you started with the conditioner certainly said “no, wait, you already did that!” Adorable pup!
Holy Chow. This is the cutest thing ever! Chow owner.... please raise them the best you can. Adorbs.
I had a Chow Chow, the sweetest little girl! She was so sweet. I was crazy about that sweet baby girl. She left us at 16 1/2, which was too, too soon. I miss her to this day. Children, people had no problems when interacting with her. The only time she might give one a hard time was if someone got down and locked eyes with her. But that almost never happened, because I was very aware of the problems that could cause.
She showed real aggression once. A friend sent her boyfriend to our house to pick something up, George (yes, a girl named George) wouldn't let him past the foyer. She just circled him, letting him know that was as far as he was going. She could sense my unease, I did not like him at all.
Miss my baby!
What a good girl! What an old age! Dogs could live to 70 and it'd still be too soon!
Leo you are so beautiful and well behaved . Had a friend with one she was well behaved too x
We have raised chows for 40 years. We've socialized all of them, and they love everyone. Very good dogs! Just like the pitbulls. They get bad raps
So true!
We have a sweet 1 year old chow that looks very much like Leo. Our chows name is Goku he is such a good boy! So sweet with excellent manners! A total gentleman lol
@@StefandCarly My anime-loving self is in love with the name you gave him 😂. My brothers and I once named a frequent stray Vegeta at the height of our Dragonball Z obsession, lol.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValleyWas he small and angry?
As you noted, you breed responsibly. Pitbulls get a bad rap because they have been bred to fight. It does not take long to create an unpredictable and dangerous breed by continuously mating the most aggressive males and females out of every litter. That is what happened (and still happens) to the Pitbull. Chows, as I'm sure you're very aware, have also been bred to fight for some sick humans' backyard dog fighting rings. But Chows have fallen out of favor with these demented people and pitbulls have been their favorite breed to fight for a very long time. Since they stopped intentionally breeding for aggression in Chows and responsible breeders like yourself breed for positive traits, the aggression is getting bred out of them. The breed is becoming more predictable and that trend will continue as long as they don't get popular with the dog fighters again. That is not the case with Pitbulls however.
50% of all dog bites that require a trip to the ER are caused by Pitbulls. That is why they have a "bad rap." And it is not from a lack of socializing the dogs. It's from breeding for aggression. Socialization makes no difference when you're dealing with an unpredictable breed that has specifically been bred to fight to the death. When one breed is responsible for half of all serious dog bites, there is a huge problem and it does not help to say that they just need to be socialized. A lack of socialization is not something that only happens to Pitbulls. It can and does happen equally to every dog breed, so it makes no sense to say that a lack of socialization somehow causes only the Pittbull to be more aggressive. It's genetic. And the only way to fix it is to 1. Shut down the dog fighting rings, and 2. Breed responsibly and very selectively for stable calm temperment. You've done your part for the breed. I think more needs to be done to end all dog fighting. It's unbelievable to me that people are still doing this to dogs in the 21st century!
He certainly one of the nicest
Looking Chow Chow I’ve ever seen and so well socialized.
I grew up with a Chow/Golden Retriever mix (quarter Chow, three-quarters Golden)- she was the sweetest girl! As in, the mail-carrier gave out warnings to replacement mail-people that consisted of 'all that barking is her excited to see you, she's really happy to have visitors.' I kept getting flashes of her during this video.
I know that there are certain breeds that have certain traits, but I also believe that dogs can reflect their owners' dispositions. If you are a happy, open, and loving person, chances are your dog will be, too! And socialization is soooooo important! This cutie seems like he's already on the right path. ❤😊
Yes, but chow owners need someone who’s stern and has leadership capabilities.
Yay for more chow chow content! Have my own chow chow fluffball here at home and he is the sweetest thing ever! 💕
Gorgeous and cute at the same time. So nice to read so many good stories about people's lives with Chows too. ❤
Adorable
I mean the puppy too but you Vanessa, I don’t think you hear it enough. You have one of my favorite channels. Thanks
OMG! He looks like a little bear. He's so adorable and sweet. 😊
My Best dog was a Rottweiler/Chow mix, Rottweiler coloring with Chow fur. He was a very handsome boy who knew he was gorgeous! He would prance when walking away because he was totally aware of how beautiful he was!
Mine pranced like a Princess!!!
We had a Chow Chow he was super sweet. He loved kids so much and played with all of us. He did not get aggressive till he got older near the end of his life when he developed an inoperable brain tumor.
He’s like a little lion so cute
What a good giant teddy bear. His parents did an exceptional job desensitizing him to being groomed at such a young age. Usually Chow Chows can be aggressive (my neighbor had two and though I am a sucker for dogs, I was usually cautious around them). But this big little guy is very sweet
my friend karen had a chow chow...i'd never met one before, so when i went over and she stepped out of the room for a second, i already was on the floor with the dog n my lap and my face in his face...we were having a little love-fest...and she came in saying how he hates strangers and his breed has a reputation for being aggressive...and she looked down, paused in surprise, and said, "oh. gee, i've never seen him act like that around someone new." lol! honestly, dogs just know who luuuurves them, and some of us are fortunate enough to know which floofs luuuuurve us. XD
My nephew has two chow chows and when I first saw them the boy chow called bear let me stroke him and fuss him . He said it was strange as bear was usually standoffish with strangers but I agree with you , animals know which people are animal lovers and respond to that .
Such a good temperament!! Most chow chows are not this way. Most that I’ve met are one maybe two people dogs and that’s it. They have their circle of humans and that’s all they want. ❤he’s a handsome guy though.
That's me in dog form, used to have one friend at a time. But now I've branched out because I need more.
Leo is a very apt name, what a cute chow fun! My chow (actually diluted half chow) has a similar temperament. Loves the pets, very bouncy when she feels playful, responsive to words in a very emotive way. But she also has a bossy pants, aloof side. And can get leash reactive which thankfully doesn't present itself at the groomer and only on walks at the moment.
Ugh, I had a Yorkie who was EXTREMELY reactive on the leash. Couldn’t break him out of it.
He is majestic. They can be stubborn but it's important to raise them well, get them used to grooming, and socialize them. I love the bit at 9:42 ; he activated his own "Fluff Up" mechanism! My sister has two and we love them. They even let me stroke the soft fur on top of their heads (they don't let a lot of people do that!)
I had a beloved Chow Chow. She was sweet and never aggression. Yet, her appearance scared people. Thanks for taking great care of Leo for his grooming. He will surely be the better for the early training.
Would love to see him again as he grows up and personality matures
The owner needs a Leo podcast!!!
He's so sweet!
I had a Chow Chow at the end of her life for 2 years due to previous owner having twins. Her name was Angel...and she was just that! I loved that dog for 2 years until she had Hip dysplasia and lost her bowel control. It was so heartbreaking to put that baby down. I cried for days. She looked just like Leo except hair loss and graying of her hair due to aging. I think their reputation is given a bad rap. If you show love to those dogs, they will love you back. Great video!
I will be a mighty king, so enemies beware!!
Well I've never seen a king of beasts with quite so little hair!
Oh my gosh! Leo is SO dang cute! I want to squeeze him! 🥰
