Thanks for the blow dry tip. About to bathe my 50 pound rescue Muppet with long winter hair still, and will be sure to blow dry him to avoid matting! Had to use a muzzle to brush his front half out but all fingers are in tact. He was found on the streets and judging by his temperament, he was very badly abused. I'm his third adopter since being found, so at least his fourth owner. He's done worse to me than his previous adopters who returned him, but I will never give up on him.
Amazing job! I'm sure he's was so confused as to why he needed brushing and that it would feel so much better afterward. Good on you for knowing how to use a muzzle so you could finish it! They're great tools in the right hands. Sounds like he's was adopted and returned so you could be the owner he needed. 🩷 So glad to hear he's feeling better and has a forever home!
Should hair be plucked at all? Shouldn't the practice be done very sparingly as it keeps dirt out and wafts dirt, ear wax up to the surface ? It works for humans unless their ears are constantly syringed ? That's when you get blocked up ears and they have more damage to the very small internal inner bones. ❤
I'm an RN with much ear, nose and throat experience and I can tell you you're absolutely right about the ears. Wish everyone (nurses, groomers etc) were as intuitive as you.❤
It's wonderful that you are able to take more time with the animals than other groomers. When I was a vet tech, we were often discouraged by the volume of patients. We felt that we didn't have enough time to treat them properly. Great channel!
I had my nearly toy size mini poodle groomed short when he was going to be neutered at almost 14 months (he had cryptorchidism i.e. internal/ undescended) We could still comb most of him but avoided most of the lower tummy (shaved clean for surgery).
My Havanese is 17 She's half-blind, half-deaf, and dumb as a box of rocks, but she's also the sweetest dog on the planet. Treats everybody like they're her best friend, even if they've never met before.
My cousin has one and my parents dog-sit every once in a while. That dog follows my mother everywhere she goes in the house. If she gets up just to get something five steps away the dog will get up and follow her there and back. It's the funniest thing. And she has the most expressive eyebrows; I love it.
That's too funny! 🤣 Not a Havanese, but my Party Cocker was the exact same; but he only ACTED dumber than a box of rocks. My ex always said he was tetched. 🤣 And everyone was his bestest friend. He followed me from room to room & had a nasty habit of laying right smack down in the middle of every doorway of every room I entered. I tripped over him in the dark repeatedly, once breaking my foot and having to have surgery!

I've bathed her at home before but that was before I learned so much from Vanessa. Thank you for having this channel and being so forthcoming with info so we can feel confident bathing our trouble- pups at home.

small dogs are my favorite! i love that the havanese have a little bit of heft so they're not quite as fragile as the really tiny dogs, but they have the same cute aesthetics as a yorkie.
Y'know. While neglecting a dog's coat maintenance for one reason or another is absolutely the main reason for matting, it's nice to have a reminder that it's not ALWAYS because of that. I'll bet that before Daisy's surgery her coat was excellently maintained, (and it looks so, so soft and healthy,) but doing the right thing for their dog's health over her coat, led them to being good owners with a matted dog anyway. Plus they're not being crappy about it being easier to shave her than to try and de-mat all of that, so her comfort and health matters more to them than her looks! They made one little mistake in not getting her shaved before surgery, but other than that, they seem to be doing a great job!
Our Aussiedoodle jumped up, looked around, then stood perfectly still, when she heard Vanessas' grooming razor. She was a ragged mess, looking like a small Olde English Sheepdog, when we adopted her from a rescue. Many groomers did NOT want to deal with an overly matted doodle, so finding one became a chore. The groomer is now considered family 3 years later and we don't want anyone else to groom our rather silly, somewhat sensitive girl.

Vanessa, I think you are, by far, one of the most patient, pet groomers that ever I came across. I owned a labrador and a German shepherd dog in my life. Due to getting worse (health wise) I can no longer offer a big dog, not even a little one, the care it needs, or the exercise it needs. And to keep a dog to just let it go potty in the garden 24/7 is a crime, IMHO. I am not that careless or desperate for companionship. I have a Havanese that has the exact same coloring as this cutie, he’s 9 years old and I groom him myself. He actually doesn’t have much inner ear hair at all. But I totally agree with your feelings on ear plucking. Havanese are awesome dogs! You did a great job on her.
PSA for anyone that ever finds themselves having to pluck their dog's ears themselves: like Vanessa said, use ear powder and pluck a few hairs at a time instead of trying to rip it all out at once - that hurts and can easily make them head shy! You can just lay them across your lap and take your time; you don't have to get it all at once. Some oddball dogs actually do need their ears mined out occasionally because hair grows IN the ear canals but most don't need it.

oh this is so great. I have 2 Havanese boys which I groom at home myself for many years. Definitely love the coat, but it is a lot of work if you want to keep it long. Wonderful breed, but not for the person who does not want to brush their dog regularly, you have to stay on top of matting with these guys. They are lovely, and characters for sure. Daisy gave a masterclass in how to behave at the groomers! You did a wonderful job ❤❤❤
Such a good little darling. I think she knew she would feel much better after her spa day.
Omg I had a Havanese named Lex who passed away a couple years ago from CKD and he looked just like her! But when his coat was grown out he was curly.
My friend had a Habanese that was all white. It's amazing how different the coloring makes this one look.
Havanese are also known for changing colors. Mine started out Daisy’s color and now is stark white! 😂
Oh wow. I want that beautiful little dog. How well mannered she was. She deserves the biggest bag of treats you can buy. ❤❤❤❤
She's SO GOOD!! I'm glad you got a break after grooming that husky/malamute. Excellent job, as always
What a star! So well behaved and so adorable too! That face! 😍🥰
You sculpted a puppy out of an old mop amazing.
Daisy looks like a sweet and gentle baby girl😍 Great job on her groom!
Havanese have a lovely temperament and she was no exception!
Daisy looks adorable with her new haircut! 😍
Beautiful and such a good girl!
Oh wow that before and after really shows off the difference! What an excellent job.
Incredible result! Daisy is so beautiful she really need to be groomed! ❤
Daisy is a perfect little Havanese! Easiest groom I've seen you do! ♥️♥️♥️
Havanese are some of the sweetest dogs and if their owners are diligent in their maintaining their coats between grooming sessions, they tend to be very good during grooming sessions. Since I have a Havanese, I could be a little partial! 😄
Matting is exactly the same thing as felting, and you make felt by getting wool wet and then rub it together.
Huh... 😃
oh this is so great. We usually go with a shorter coat in warmer months. I appreciate this video for some tips for me, thanks !!
How adorable! What, there is that much hair in the ears? Vanessa, you should have Girl With The Dogs printed on the happy hoodies! Thank you for sharing! ❣
Your logo idea is great!
I was shocked, too. That, and how much hair was on the floor after.
I agree! I have seen the happy hoodies popping up on a lot of channels and I keep saying, "those are Vanessa's"!
I'd definitely buy one with her logo
