I could cry when I saw the ticks .... I have 3 large breed dogs and live on a farm but I make sure my babies are protected from ticks and fleas
It's so much easier in recent years with NextGuard chewables instead of the ones that you have to put on their skin (and risk neuro side effects).

I've had a working Great Pyranees and I would never in a million years let her go without flea and tick medication or proper grooming. Like, serioisly, it was the boarding kennel that brought her into the groomers, not her owners.

That's the idea! They're supposed to blend in with the sheep so that if the flock gets attacked they can take the attacker by surprise. Also helps that it makes them extremely floofy and precious-looking.

She’s so sweet! Poor girl with all of those ticks-Her owners should have to promise to give her flea and tick medicine monthly before they get Zen back. She deserves that.
Our Pyrenees looked like this old girl often, especially when they were older. Laying in straw with their livestock, rolling in the pastures, holes to get cool, wading in a pond or livestock water tub, it is their life. It is what they love to do. Those eyes, that is the soulful eyes of a Pyrenees.
They still need grooming. I know they’re not show dogs but still

I, too, have a Pyrenees & boy does she love digging a hole & laying in it. Which makes for regular grooming if I want to keep my house clean❤😊
We have a working GP next door. He is the biggest sweetest baby but yeah, he is a filthy critter. But we adore him.
10 y/o seems rather elder for large, working dog. Such a sweet soul. You did a wonderful job on her.
She may be less of a *working* dog and more just continues to hang out and "work" to keep her having a personal purpose. She may also be being used to help train up a younger dog as well

@@Rew123 she's a farm dog. Great Pyrenees dogs often are left *out* with the livestock as part of the herd. She isn't abused or unhappy.

I really hope the owners keep up with their dogs' grooming & care especially when it comes to fleas & ticks! Thank God they brought this adorable girl to Vanessa!!! She's amazing & her behaviour is exemplary!!!💖
Same. Like, I know they are working dogs, but they still need a bare minimum level of care. They aren't farm machinery and I think some farm dog owners forget that 😕 At least trim their nails, put them on a monthly flea/tick preventative, and bathe them at least twice per season to prevent hot spots.
@@kuceracm if she is a working dog, shes out with the flock 24/7/365. No one sees her except her sheep and whatever she chases off or kills.
@@jsnsk101Still. At least flea/tick so at least she has a fighting chance at not getting really sick. Per the video, she had a lot of ticks--2 varieties! If the owners are using alternative/natural preventative, it's not working. If they're using nothing, that's wrong. Even working humans have safety standards. I can only assume the complimentary groom was given bcuz the owners don't really see working dogs as "pets"/companions, but as the commenter before me suggested, farm equipment. Some might say "It's the culture" in that farm community, but that's no excuse. They're not machinery or equipment. 😰
@@cheftoni55 not my dog in the video, but mine have the lyme vaccine, plus take nextguard(feed through flea/tick preventative) and a topical from the vet...all they do is prevent most ticks from biting, and prevents them from getting sick if they do get one that bites and latches on. So the owners of this farm dog may very well have them on preventatives, and still be carrying ticks.

My MIL used to groom dogs, and one year when we were out visiting her i helped her groom a very sweet dog that had more than 50 ticks on its head alone. I became very adept at get those rotten buggers off. That poor dog. So sweet though, didn't move a muscle while I tweezed and dunked the ticks into a container of rubbing alcohol. Sadly my MIL told me it wasn't the first time the owner had brought in dogs in poor condition.
I hope this lovely senior floof gets tick preventative before she's out and about again. Such a sweet love.

The first thing I noticed was that wise old face and her very expressive eyes. I still smirk at every Happy Hoodie face. Oh, I'll bet getting all that fur, AND all of those ticks off. Ew...I hate ticks! Love the before and after!!!! Great job!

What a beautiful old lady. So calm and serene....she certainly lived up to her name. What I don't understand though is why anyone would let her get into such a mess. The ticks and nails could surely have been fixed even if the owners couldn't get a full groom for her. It was wonderful to see you make her more comfortable 💖
Some dogs don't let their owners clean them, but will let others.
She should get monthly prevention for ticks and fleas at the very least
She's a farm dog! Even preventatives aren't 100% and working on a farm is a ripe environment for ticks and fleas, even with prevention. Don't be too hard on the owners.

I really enjoy watching these and how satisfying it must be to transform a dogs appearance. I adopted a lurcher from a rescue and he was a bit pongy so took him to a local groomer. He loved the attention and the air blower/drier. Looking a million dollars we walked off down the street and now i was the scruffy one! 😁

I just lost my wonderful boyfriend and our beautiful dog, Polar, in a horrendous car accident December 2nd...Polar was a fantastic and lovely protector. She was like my daughter. She kept our mountain, our animals, and her people safe. I miss my partner and our dog...our cat hasn't come home since. I lost my family all in one day. I am so depressed and devastated, I do not know if I can go on.

That nail trim was indeed immensely satisfying, I'm a little OCD about my personal dogs's nails and I run a doggy daycare so it's hard for me to resist the urge to cut everyone's nails for free, so your videos help me get my fix! Maybe one day I'll commit to being more consistent with social and be able to do it for free too. Your content is so inspiring to me.
you could offer the nail trim as an add-on to your daycare service
You should offer a service to bring their dogs into groomers while at daycare so the owner has one less responsibility to worry about.
Same! As soon as I hear my dogs nails clicking the floor they get dremeled lol
@@parkermaewe did that at a daycare I worked at years ago. I was the lucky one who got all the nails done. We even took dogs that needed to be sedated at the vet, and retrained them to allow us to do them without any problems.
Actually I am not so convinced that this beauty is truly a farm doggo, such dogs due to their duties and constant moving don't have overgrown nails as she had.
Even the dewclaws most of the time don't need trimming.

Soooo glad you mentioned the overgrown nails that cause pain/discomfort & difficulty walking. Bc overgrown nails twist as they hit the floor first (I would make all owners walk on their fingernails & see if they like it..at least they can cut their nails) makes the dog lean their weight backwards to avoid the pressure on the sensitive nail bed. This can lead to premature joint and ligament issues. Poor dogs.😢

I just love this breed. We are surrounded by sheep ranches and it’s fun to try to locate one amongst the herd. They are very street wise and watching them at work is amazing.

this dog is living a good farmlive otherwise they never get 10 years old. straw, pools, sheep - this is their life and they love it. the dog also was very calm and not aggressive. so she was used being with people who are ok with her.
