As someone who owns a senior, arthritic Newfie, their comfort is more important than their coat. I keep my girl clipped to an inch length now and it is very apparent how much better she and her joints feels with a shorter coat.
I had a neighbor with 3 Newfies who would come running down their hilly backyard to their fence warning bystanders with their deep, commanding barks. It was rather intimidating actually. I wonder what their senior years were like? Thank you for loving your senior Newfie. ❤

My mom agreed to let me adopt him even though she was allergic to him figuring okay a couple of years, dog will be passing before i became an adult and lett the house.... nope we had him another 15 years, old old man even if he had been a puppy
I agree that 11 years old is ancient for a Newfie, but, these dogs and a lot of large/giant breeds have health issues which can shorten their lives, regardless of genetics, and care, no one can control this. So, if having great owners lengthens a dog's life span, my dogs should still be alive.

11 is old for a large dog. A double coat is beautiful, but hes now at a point in his life where its to much for him. Glad to see hes got owners who put his comfort first. Thank you for doing this for this old boy....
A dogs life is too short😔. My heart always breaks for large breed dogs & their shorter lifespans in compassion to smaller dog breeds. I love that the owners are putting their dogs comfort & health 1st & making sure he get the care he needs.❤❤❤
Our older Golden had a neurological condition that led to him struggling to breathe a lot of the time - and he really struggled with heat. Shaving him down made a huge difference in his comfort. It was sad to lose his beautiful coat - but it made a huge difference for him.
@@CyC-si2zn Except, OP's dog's situation is different as he had a neurological condition which makes it difficult for him to breathe. I don't know the specifics of the dog's situation but it's worth bearing in mind that one way dogs regulate temperature is by panting, so if you have a condition which makes it difficult for you to do that, having a heavy coat of fur on you will make it even harder.
i too had a golden that had problems with the heart - but i did not shave him, i bought scissors for dogs and i worked like a week on him and about an hour every day to shorten his fur and in the end he looked like a labrador ;) and he felt soooo much better.
When a dog gets old, I stop caring about their double coat. Shaving can bring them so much happiness more comfort, and will extend the time between grooms, which decreases stress. He feels better at the end, and that’s all that matters. ❤

@@kurtrindgen4708No 😊 She has a quirky sense of humour which is unique on animal channels. What a beautiful, gentle old boy. He is clearly well taken care of and has had a good life. His groom turned out great and, despite his arthritic pain, he was amazingly well behaved. Thanks for another great video.
We have a 17 year old pom mix. He may be arthritis, be blind, deaf, and only have a few teeth. His entire life he has hated a comb and brush. He has a double coat. But due to how his entire life he wanted to eat me alive. We found a compassionate groomer whom he trust. And she finally said a hair trim was the best. And it has been a godsend. When a groomer has the compassion for the pet. It makes.all the difference. Thank you for caring for this senior gentleman.
I just lost my 18-year-old pom mix last October and he was always a perfect little angel with the groomer but whenever I trimmed his nails and his tiny paws he would snap and snarl like he wanted to eat all my fingers and both hands if I touched His Majesty's precious paws. You would never know this was Mommy's little shadow who never let me out of his sight from the day I brought him home. Your story reminded of that. He too was blind and deaf at the end and after a major dental was toothless but that didn't stop him protesting a nail trim or keeping his paws cleaned up for his safety. Even blind, if he woke up and found I had left the room, he would bark up a storm, ordering me back to pick him up. Sounds like your baby and mine were a lot alike. Best wishes and please give him a hug for me, (but don't touch his paws). 🤗
I have a tiny 15yo Maltese and she's at her bed almost all day. Last time I saw her at my mom's house, I had to shave her, because it was all matted, and my sister (who's her human) didn't realize she had dermatitis spots. I think it was the best decision for her quality of life
Not only in shaving him down you are saving him the pain and hassle from having regular grooming, but as someone who used to have long hair and after it being cut off and the lack of weight made it feel like my head was going to float off my shoulders, so, not having to lug around the weight of all that fur, must also be of some relief to his poor joints too.
Grooming him must have been so tiring. I felt such pity for his obvious pain. That is one mammoth dog! You did a wonderful job! I hope the owners were happy and grateful!
11 years is a great age for these dogs to reach. I don't think any of my family members' Newfs have ever made it that long. They're a member of the Heartbreak Breeds for very good reasons. 😢 Anything that will help Cabot at this point is a bonus!
I agree, when age is a factor what ever it takes short putting them down. I don't like finding them dead in the morning but I don't put them down until recommended by the veterinarian.

@Fenthule I think you may be right. Poor precious older gentleman! Well, as long as he still has quality of life (he's eating, drinking, and still can get joy out of things), then I say let him keep on going.
Cabbot is a sweet, handsome boy. Poor fur baby, arthritis is no fun for anyone. I hope he is happy and comfortable with the time he has left in this life. He really is a sweet boy.
I am so glad that he is getting shaved. Senior fluffy dogs feel so much better, and it's for their comfort and care. Most seniors aren't extremely active and I am so glad there are ppl out there that genuinely care about their welfare like you.❤
I just say props to the owners for doing what they think was best for their dog. I'm sure when he was younger, they had him groomed properly but old age is old age and they were doing what they thought was best considering they've had him for all this time.
Older, heavy, lots of wrinkles & Very Arthritic. I can so relate to Cabot. Thank you for being so considerate of him. 11 is ancient for a dog that big.
Wow it's like shearing a sheep! It would be great and super convenient if your table swiveled like a lazy susan. He was such a good lil ol gentle fella.💕
I actually wonder if he has some neck/ cervical pain as that is the rare time I have seen a dog keep their head down like that and it could also cause should pain so he really wouldn't want his front paws touched...Newfies are just so stoic about EVERYTHING, I've never seen one complain either much less show teeth. It just really made me think he's in even more pain than the owners already think. I hope I'm wrong I hate for any animal to be in pain, especially since their in so much mire than they show and because they obviously care for him a lot- just keeping a Newfy healthy for 11yrs is so impressive! but he looked handsome and you did the best for him, just as you did the best for the Malamute and every other dog and cat you've groom or haven't. You've done what's in the best interest of the animal to your ability and that's why I love watching.
I'm sure he wasn't real comfortable after travelling & then having to negotiate himself through moving throughout the groom. But temporary stress during this event pays off when he's much more comfortable afterwards. Pain management providers are ridiculous when it comes to really helping out those who have intractable pain. I'll bet this big guy had a great nap & was tended to pain wise according to what he needed by his people. ❤
For a second he looked like that bear at the zoo that lost all its hair, but you fixed him up so good! I’m sure he feels much lighter and hopefully more comfortable
So glad you are able to help with his grooming. It is my opinion that unless you have arthritis yourself it is hard to imagine how much it hurts. For me personally I didn’t fully comprehend the pain until I am now older and have osteoarthritis. I really give owners of these big furry fur babies a ton of credit for caring for these gentle giants. ❤
Oh man this video made me cry. He reminds me sooo much of my bear from childhood. He passed away at 12 and i still miss him every day. We got him when I was 5 and he was the best dog to grow up with. When i get my own house ill be getting a newfie to cherish. Thanks for the reminder of such good boys. :)
I'm betting when he started growling he was tired and just done with being touched. Poor guy. I'm glad you are always such a compassionate professional!
He actually looked really good in the end! It always touches my heart when you take on those more challenging Senior cases. If I would be the owner I would be so relieved to have someone taking care so well of my dog.
I feel for that big sad snuffleupagus. As The Stones say “What a drag it is getting old”. I hope he feels much better after that cut. Great job as always, Vanessa.
I wish our sweet babies would never have to deal with the pains that come with old age. Cabot’s owners are so blessed to have you groomed him. I learn so much from watching you. He already looks like a weight has been lifted off him. What a sweetie pie!
My little Maltese girl is getting on in age and had a particularly bad case of arthritis these last few days. My poor baby could not even move and would not eat or drink much. It’s heartbreaking. She is thankfully feeling a little better now.
He turned out looking really cute and I hope he feels more comfortable with a shorter coat. It's so hard to see an animal in pain, especially when it's one we love as our own. Thankfully he has owners who are trying to do everything they can for him. There is a brand called Adorable Beast that makes a supplement called Jump for Joynts that is very good for pets with arthritis. Pawdega USA sells it but I don't know if they ship to Canada.
His neck might hurt more being even with his spine. Art and the boys hit all of the bones I’m afraid. Such a sweet boy and gentle. I so glad you’re doing this for him and his parents. Thank you so much you are the best.
❤❤❤ to the owners for faithfully loving this boy so long. Caring for a large elderly dog must not be easy, and he's clearly important to them. This shows through in this video. He's such a sweetheart. You guys are lucky to have each other.
Getting older is soooo hard sometimes. I'm glad his owners thought about his comfort and not just appearances-- although he does look very nice after his groom. {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to him, the sweet gentle giant ❤
I'm so grateful for your videos! I have a 13 year old pyreneese that has never been to a groomer and is not socialized. I am now confident with her nails and trimming her paws - she happily lays down when I pull out the clippers! I brush her regularly and she is one happy girl! Thank you for everything you do~ _()_

Cabbot is a sweet, handsome boy. Poor fur baby, arthritis is no fun for anyone. I hope he is happy and comfortable with the time he has left in this life. He really is a sweet boy.
Quality of life is so much more important than appearances. Good on you for taking good care of an elder pooch like this.
We had a newfoundland who died at 10 years. Had arthritis. Such a sweet gentle giant.
What a wonderful good natured old man,and he looked great when you had finished, and a lot more comfortable I'm sure
I am so glad that he is getting shaved. Senior fluffy dogs feel so much better, and it's for their comfort and care.
Most seniors aren't extremely active and I am so glad there are ppl out there that genuinely care about their welfare like you.❤
Couldn't agree more!! ❤
I’m sure your “uneven” cuts are more straight than 90% of other folks’ “straight” cuts! You are so patient with him, and he appreciated it!
What a sweet, gentle baby. He must be very loved.
I hope I'm wrong I hate for any animal to be in pain, especially since their in so much mire than they show and because they obviously care for him a lot- just keeping a
Newfy healthy for 11yrs is so impressive! but he looked handsome and you did the best for him, just as you did the best for the Malamute and every other dog and cat you've groom or haven't. You've done what's in the best interest of the animal to your ability and that's why I love watching.
I really do hope he's getting good pain management from a vet.
Poor ol' guy - he looks like he just wants to take a nap. what a gentle, old soul!
For a second he looked like that bear at the zoo that lost all its hair, but you fixed him up so good! I’m sure he feels much lighter and hopefully more comfortable
Looking at this sweet senior, carrying the weight of his age... I just want to hug him....
When you said gotta turn you the dog looked surprised 😂
"Oh no,"
I noticed that. He's like no😂
"We're gonna do this AGAIN?!?"
Yes! It was so cute!
@@TheGelasiaBlythe 😆
The fact that he keeps his head down most of the time brought me tears.
Looks like a gentle old elephant with his lovely short coat. What a sweet old man, and such a compassionate groom. Hello from 🇬🇧.
WOW 11! FOR A NEWFOUNDLAND! thats very impressive!
Poor old dude. I just want to give him a big hug.
Great job! Cabot looks like a giant cotton ball. Well behaved boy!🥹😆😍
Thank you Vanessa for being so kind to him and his Family 👏👏👏✌️❣️
Such tenderness when you work with this gentleman. I often pray we find a cure for arthritis in people and animals.,💕💕
Poor Cabot. I feel for him, since I’m old and arthritic myself. I hope he feels lots better after his groom.
What a sweet dog! I'm obsessed with your channel. My 22 lb rescue has to be groomed because it's hard work! Great job on all your dogs!
Sweet boy. He deserves to be comfortable ❤️❤️
Oh my lord he totally looks like eyeor! I love him and am so glad he has pet parents that choose his comfort over looks or money!
Poor old guy, he's so well behaved! He deserves a nice soft bed and a nap!
What a sweet, gorgeous dog! His paws are so massive! I'm glad he's more comfortable.
Newfies are the sweetest gentle giants, I've never met one that I didn't want to hug
He is such a handsome boy, and I like his new haircut. I’m sure it will be a blessing in the summer.
I have never seen a Newfoundland older then 10. They were brothers, well taken care of and really old.
My little Maltese girl is getting on in age and had a particularly bad case of arthritis these last few days. My poor baby could not even move and would not eat or drink much. It’s heartbreaking. She is thankfully feeling a little better now.
he just accepted everything... what a good dog. maybe the best of dogs in fact
These owners have done a fabulous job caring for this big sweet boy
Aww Cabbot looked like Eyeore there for a moment. Knowing he’s not exactly comfortable he still looks great!
He has earned his comfort, at eleven years old. What a sweetheart ❤
Omg is he CUUUUTEEE ❤❤❤❤His groom definitely turned out really good! Not surprised though, your grooms always look great! 😅
She did an amazing job. Hope he feels better.
He looked AMAZING!!! Such a good boy though.
His neck might hurt more being even with his spine. Art and the boys hit all of the bones I’m afraid. Such a sweet boy and gentle. I so glad you’re doing this for him and his parents. Thank you so much you are the best.
What a sweet old man.... He totally wins my heart
Cabot's transformation left him looking handsome and dignified. I'm certain he must feel so much better. Thank you, GWTD, for sharing!
Almost seems like a sheep shearing clipper would go through it easier. Such loving care as always!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Such a lovely old gentleman of a dog
All that beautiful fur!! I want to spin it into yarn so bad!!
He's been a good boy all his life.
I'm so grateful for your videos! I have a 13 year old pyreneese that has never been to a groomer and is not socialized. I am now confident with her nails and trimming her paws - she happily lays down when I pull out the clippers! I brush her regularly and she is one happy girl! Thank you for everything you do~ _()_
Comfort, & quality of life are always more important than aesthetics, so glad this pupper's people have decided to make him as comfortable as possible!
