Sheep Surrendered After 4 Years Of Missed Haircuts

- Fergie is a Speckled Face Cross, a mix between a fine wool sheep and an American Blackface. She had not been shorn in 4 years and the state of her condition is severe going into the summer. Her shearing took a total of 7 Minutes.🤘🏻 She certainly feels much better and is another great example for why every animal should be shorn every year. #shearingiscaring #everyanimaleveryyear

That is so cruel to leave her like that, she seems so good tempered, thanks for helping her.
She went through two or three Texas summers with all that wool, poor girl.
These animal owners are to blame!!!
The other sickening videos are fly strike. Lots are literally being eaten alive.
@@myreasonforlife.9511Severe fly strike can happen in less than 24 hours, so it's not really a good indicator of if an animal is neglected or not.

Is the wool used or thrown away?
videos like this should be shown to people who think sheep shearing is animal cruelty, you literally saved this sweet girl's life
Sheering can be abusive if not done correctly
@@Sara-ej8mk so can anything. But there’s people out there who legitimately think shearing is an act of cruelty even when done correctly. I think that’s what they’re referring to.
@Sara-ej8mk yeah and giving water to the homeless can be bad at 100mph but is anyone really doing that?
Wait, people think that? Is that some mentally unsound part of the vegan community?

She’s feeling the relief and is not fighting it at all. I’m happy for her😊
Fortunately, as a show sheep she’s probably accustomed to being handled, so this is less stressful for her than a wilder sheep. Poor girl. Looks like she’ll have a nice fleece when she gets to be shorn every year.
Yes, in the end it helped her, but it's still sad to think of her being handled and loved and then just being abandoned like that. I mean at least they didn't starve her, but that's still a low bar.
But she has not been handled in 4 years.....
@@denisehosner3405 sheep have very long memories. And her calmness indicates that she’s not super stressed out about this.
@@anna9072 She was so sweet. I fell in love with her watching her sit so calmly and let go of so much dead weight. Imagine losing 23 pounds in a few short minutes? I wonder if the wool was usable or just trash due to the neglect?
@@pippadawg7037 hard to say, it kind of depends on the character of the fleece, whether it felted at all. But that merino they found in New Zealand with 7 years of growth had a useable fleece, so it’s certainly possible. Likely to be very dirty/full of vegetation on the outside, though.
The sign of a expert is how easy they make a difficult task look. You made it look so easy until the end where you finish. You're sweaty and just blown away with how much came off her. Incredibly impressive.
What a great tempered sheep! She handled that as if she was receiving a spa treatment! I was not expecting her to be so relaxed, and then to just hang out afterwards as if she didn't have a care in the world! Great job as always, and thanks again for sharing your world with those of us who wouldn't have a chance to see it otherwise.
Former FFA sheep means she was handled a lot as a lamb. Once they learn something, sheep remember forever. If what they learned was good, that's a handy trait--if what they learned was bad, ugh, it's a problem for the rest of their lives.
I don’t know what FFA sheep are. Can you explain?
@@djw8591 Future Farmers of America. It's an organisation in the US for young people to encourage their interest in livestock and to help them learn about good husbandry. They have show competitions, so the livestock are handled extensively to be groomed and trained to be led about, exposed to new environments, lots of strange humans, etc, which usually means that sheep end up super easy for shearers to handle.
@@djw8591 FFA is a youth agriculture club called Future Farmers of America. Often times FFA clubs will have animals that the young people tend to learn about farming and animal husbandry. Because many students tend the animals, the animals are often used to much human handling, making them much more docile and good-tempered.

She absolutely knew you were helping her. She's had a hard life but you've just given her exactly the new start needed ❤
Fascinating! Good job! She looks happy and relieved
The care you put into shearing the animals is remarkable. I can't imagine carrying around 23 pounds of clothes and excrement all the time. Great job Katie.
Clearly you pack your suitcases better than I do...
Nothing but respect for this young lady ! Incredible skill and compassion , what a combination !
Sounds like the FFA needs to address the issue after graduation care of sheep.
4H too.
That is exactly what they need to do, this isn’t fair or humane to the sheep :( that poor girl, thank goodness we have this lady out here to help
@@rebeccapekarske5788 I was under the assumption that in the majority of cases 4H animals are auctioned after the project is done
I disagree. FFA and 4H teach responsibility. I place the blame squarely on the parent and child who graduated and didnt finish their job.
@BalconyFish I didn't say blame the ffa. I said it should be a topic talked about to ensure the animals aren't forgotten and neglected. Make after care something they talk about from the start and educate the parents as to their responsibilities with animal.
Thank God folks like you choose to do this work and help these poor animals. Thank you.
She remembered her show prep days, what a sweet girl! Thanks to the owner for finally realizing the need to surrender her, thanks to the Sanctuary for helping her and thanks to Right Choice for another awesome job!
Some sheep just don't care for people. Like some ankle biters I've met(that's 'children' to you,Fred)
Poor baby. Thank you for being so amazing with helping Fergie
That sweet face, she deserves an award for being calm.
Thank you for the shearing education and for helping this girl out! I can’t believe the poor girl was left for so many years like that. It’s criminal.
You are by far the most gentle shearer I have seen on You Tube. You may look like a pro-wrestler in competition with the animals, but from the elbows down, you have the most gentle touch which I can see the sheep take on. I love watching you work!
Who would treat an animal so cruelly and in Texas heat no less! Bless you for saving her so expertly❤❤❤
Oh, you are so gentle and compassionate with every animal that you shear. Not to mention, you do a beautiful job! I love your channel!
No wonder they don't run away as soon as you let them go.
Poor baby! Where is the FFA in all this? When the project is done, you have a sheep, and good luck with that? That works for some of the ranch kids, but for the others, it ain't gonna fly. It's time for that to change, Future Farmers. Feel better, Fergie. Good job, Katie, as always. ❤
What a shame her people didn't care for her after she was done being a project. Thank you for helping this sweet girl. Hoping she has the good life going forward.
I know nothing about shearing. This was hugely interesting and I’m impressed by your care for the animal.
Breaks my heart to see this poor sheep having been neglected for so long. What a great job you did Katie and thank you so much for your gentle and calm manner. So appreciate your videos!
Her sweet little face looks so grateful. You ladies are amazing. Thank you for helping her.
while obviously it would have been best to maintain this poor gal's upkeep in the first place, I'm glad the owners finally acknowledged they couldn't care for her and gave her up to a place that could give her back some quality of life. fantastic work as always!
Do we know if the owners gave her up willingly or only after animal control got on the case? It's like when the boss invites you to quit before you get fired or arrested.

I’ve watched your videos. You are a walking saint. Truly a beautiful soul. I’m so happy to know that there are people like you in this world. Rock on!!
Great job! That really looked like a workout! Poor girl! About a decade ago, three sheep were in a field that I drove by every day for 5 years. I never saw them shorn, they were out in all kinds of weather here in Nebraska. I called the sheriff's office to complain about the sheep every 6 months, but nothing was done. Their fleece was dragging on the ground, they could barely move, and you could barely see their legs! I took a video of them when they got close to the road fence one morning. I took that video to the Humane Society in the next county and the sheriff's office there, and FINALLY some action was taken. The next week they were gone. I always wondered how much fleece came off of them. Two years later I finally heard why they were in this condition, the old man who had them passed on and the living family members just abandoned them. I am glad this girl is going to see a second life somewhere.
Such a precious girl! She knew you were helping her. I am sure she could feel the relief as more of that coat was removed. Sweet freedom! So glad she has been rescued!
Omg, that's almost a crime. Thank you for shearing this girl.
abuse...
It is a crime that's called neglect! IMAGINE not taking a bath or washing your hair for 4yrs and your parents do not care, what would you call that? Yep abuse, neglect, indifference...Humans think they are so smart, you see so much of atrocity done by humans, we are so full of ourselves, that there is no more shame or morals or common sense anymore. It is pitiful what we do to animals and each other. I'M GLAD SHE WAS RESCUE AND THE AWESOME TEAM OF RCS WAS THERE AND DID AN AMAZING JOB AS ALWAYS!
There is no Almost about it 😢😢😢 that was straight neglect
