I only watch your shearing. But everyone knows how analogues work. Another shear that was many years old popped up on my feed. The guy chased the sheep down, cornered him, and with two other men forced him into the barn where one of the men did a close shave. He left the sheep with so many nicks (deep wounds), the sheep looked like it had been in a knife fight. There was no apology, and no talk of lanolin. They all acted like, hey good job mate. 😮 It made me really admire your work even more.

Nicks are sadly an unavoidable aspect of shearing over-woolled sheep. No-one can predict the skin pulls. Sheep being prey animals are blessed to have a much lower response to injury than us humans and remarkable powers of recovery . You do a great job. Regards from a former Scottish shearer.

Oh man, these poor sheep, having a wool quality that mats so fast. That comparison to sheep that missed four years of shearing really emphasized that an unlucky single year missed can really mess up a herd, and that the owners tried their best within all that chaos.

You are a fantastic example of someone who has empathy for the sheep, but doesnt let that cloud your decisions.
So many people who love their animals will see their animals in distress like this and won't be able to handle it. What is best for the animal isn't always to baby the animal, its to hurry up so you can prevent stress and overheating. Often babying the animal will actually stress the animal out more; as you said, the animal can feel your energy.
But, at the same time, you cannot forget empathy altogether. It's a balance, and it takes practice to show empathy without letting it slow you down. You learn with time and experience how to calm and reassure the animal without stressing it out more.

How fast wool felts depends on the quality of the wool. Some wools felt extremely readily, others are more resistant. Conditions also matter - heat, humidity, and motion also play a role. I was also surprised at how badly these fleeces were felted, considering that they were only (if I remember correctly) about 6 months past their yearly shearing.

I was out of breath too and all I was doing was sitting here on my screen porch in Central Florida in a whopping 72 degrees on this Wednesday morning at 6:30a.m. binge watching your videos because they are just so dang relaxing and seen this one and Oh My Goodness it wore me out just watching you. I felt so bad for you when you finally got through that after 13 minutes your face was so so red. But in all that heat and those matted up clumps of hair on them poor sheep you still kept calm so that they were calm you still handled them with your ever so gentleness and that’s what I love most about you and your wife is the care and gentleness with each and every sheep llama or whatever you shear it’s always with the same attention, energy, thought, care, and respect to each of them. And I love how you show all these other people that you DO NOT HAVE TO throw these animals around just to buzz their hair off. Because that’s how I feel there are two types of shearers the ones that are like you and actually think about the animal and uses speed along with accuracy only to beat the heat time limit and how you make every cut with precision and accuracy along with speed and gentleness takes a form of patience that not many people have or even have the ability to learn this form of patience. I know, I know I’ve rattled on yet again. But as you can probably tell I’ve already binge watched many of your videos this morning. Anyway. Have a wonderful day
