She had to fight for her food and didn't win very often because she had bite wounds all over. I had gone with my friend who was looking at some of the riding horses for sale. The manager asked if we would be interested in a "Free Pony". I immediately went home and got my truck and trailer. First thing in the morning I called a vet. She had super bad teeth, a severe case of sand colic with horrible diarrhea. Teeth floated, treated the colic (she pooped nothing but sand for 2 days) special diet of alfalfa pellets and dressed her wounds. She made a full recovery and lived another year, happy and healthy.

    RESPECT! Hand trimming is no joke. I follow a hoof trimmer for cattle in Scotland and he uses a grinder. Sticking to the old ways where you can feel every cut is an art. Much respect. This is HARD work and takes maximum skill. Bravo. Being a Ferrier is NO JOKE. It takes skill and you really have to be in shape to not only cut the hoofs, but manage a sedated horse when necessary. Horses are heavy, and if you're trying to keep a horse upright under light sedation while manually trying to trim the hoofs, that's strength and skill.

    This hurt my heart so much. People need to realise that owning a horse is such a huge blessing. Very few people will ever have the opportunity to love a horse. It's upsetting when people who have that opportunity neglect this precious soul like this. I just want the horse to come and let me love it for the rest of it's life...spoil it better

    As an owner of a hobby farm with only 3 horses, most people don’t realize the expense of horse ownership. Fortunately my wife and I had incomes to support and maintain our small herd. Square bale hay here in Connecticut is $8-10 a bale. We need 400 bales every season. Every 6-8 weeks the farrier comes to trim, reuse the shoes or replace $250.00. The grain, fresh water and treats add up every month. We just put up a new barn 10 years ago. So you see it’s a costly hobby to get into and maintain. Not to mention vet bills twice a year. ($75.00) just to visit your barn before any treatment. You can’t cheap out on your horses. They deserve all the care you can give. I just subscribed. Thanks for the quality and informative videos. Whimsical Wind Farm.

      @youtube-ventura You suffer from a lack of comprehension skills.
      The poster clearly states that he and his wife have the money to fund their little farm. He wrote only to share the fact that people get horses without knowing how expensive it is and he shared some examples.
      Then you barge in accusing him of being a dirt-broke animal abuser, all because you can not comprehend reading.
      Go back to school and try again. Meanwhile, quite commenting and showing the world how pathetic your skills are.

      @TWay-yf5zm You're agreeing with a fool.
      Go back to the poster's comment and find where he says he and his wife CAN'T afford their farm...go on.
      What you'll find is a man saying they were financially prepared to afford their hobby farm and horses. He did a good service by listing some real costs they pay that people need to be aware of.
      youtube-ventura did NOT understand a word the man clearly wrote. Then YOU come along like a backwoods bobble-head UH HUH UH HUH AYUCK YUCK YUCK DATS RIGHT! I hope you're at least intelligent enough to be embarrassed and delete your comment to ventura so the nonsense isn't there for all time.

      You obviously know nothing about situations like this.
      The most common I remember was elderly people that couldn't get to animals because of age or illness and didn't have the money to get them fixed afterwards.
      The usual option was to just have a neighbor dig a hole with a tractor and put them down.
      Or they could be sold to a renderer at a stock yard.
      So a lifetime of raising animals and an elderly person getting dementia and you scream ignorant insults at them.
