When I went through a long illness, I couldn’t get anyone to shear my goats around here, didn’t last 6 yrs but it was over two. It was very distressing to me & I was so grateful when an old sheep shearer helped me out! My girls were plenty loaded down, matted & dirty. And obstreperous! I was amazed at how steady this llama stood for a shearing! Very satisfying to see. May this creature know nothing but good care from now on.
Me too. I could see she was cautious at first. Poor creature. I used to work on a horse farm and we got in quite a few in terrible condition. I bought one who couldn’t be a school horse that had serious ringbone but worse, a blown knee and split hoof. He’d been a well known eventing horse who took a jump wrong. His owner kept him until he was 14 but the damage wasn’t properly remediated. It took almost a year of care for the foot to stabilize the crack and while we couldn’t entirely mend it, he would be ok for the rest of his life with proper shoeing. The knee was beyond repair but we could medicate and make him more comfortable. His right front foot occasionally drag so he couldn’t be ridden over pavement or grass or by anyone heavy so my daughter used to lie on his back in summer and read. Or ride him at a walk or fast walk for exercise in the sand ring. He was utterly bomb proof. I used to use him for summer camps to teach basic safety and grooming. He loved people. With me he had a silly sense of humor, stealing hats, tools, and tickling me while I groomed him. In time he also loved our farrier and would untie his apron while he worked. He lived to be 22. He was the most lovely boy.
Legitimately very impressed with how calm this llama is. No kicking or freaking out. Well done by the shearer too, no nonsense, careful and attentive to the animal's behavior.
At some point the Llama must have become tired of all that mess. Looks like Llama abuse to me. It's REALLY heavy. Animals vibe...they know when you're helping them. Plus I bet it feels really good...it's itchy under there.
Llamas are all over the place on behavior during shearing. It’s maybe one in twenty or thirty that will just stand calmly. If it’s an intact male you can just forget about cooperation
Love how you're so caring and careful with the animals. Can't get over this guy I made the mistake of watching and he left big gashes all over a sheep. That baby looked so beautiful and proud at the end. Special shout out to your awesome wife and cinematographer!

Sometimes cuts and nicks happen because there are irregularities under all the coat that the shearer can’t see or feel until the cut has happened. Shears are incredibly sharp - even the non electric types! The animal might also choose to move at just the wrong time, because it isn’t comfortable in the position it was placed for the shearer to work. I can’t think of a single shearer who would NOT be upset about accidentally curing and hurting an animal under their care. This is a really precise skill that takes a LOT of practice to do well, and make it look effortless. Kudos to folks willing to apprentice, study, learn, and practice this vital art for animal welfare.
Such a beautiful pattern hiding under all those mats! Poor baby looked like he lost half his weight by the time he was done and looks so much better. Wonderful job!
You can see he's freaking pissed about it at first, but his ears gradually started perking up a little bit as the heavy matting was shorn off. I bet he was so much more comfortable afterwards. 💖

What a transformation. I'm impressed with how still that llama was with not having been sheered for 6 years. Great job, Katie, for mastering the llama's huge fleece removal. I especially loved how you removed the big, super heavy blanket in multiple sheers and dropped it away from the animal. You are so gentle with the animals. I'm addicted in watching you shear. Something very satisfying about it. Great job. Can't wait to watch the Playlist.
I never get tired of watching your videos. you do such an awesome job for every animal. Great job you ladies do.
How pretty, the tail was wagging, I'm sure the llama is happy to get the weight off, great job.
Surely it did🎉
What a good boy sitting so still for you! And after 6 years of not getting shorn! My mare got clipped annually and she would have been doing a jig the whole time 😂And his patterning is *gorgeous* !
I held my breath through several parts of this video. The work you do is truly a kindness to these animals! Here’s hoping you get to visit this friend again on a regular basis.
Love your connection with the animals you work with, very conscientious! If the world where only half as caring, there would be no poverty. Bless you, and your wife. Wishing you both good health and a long and happy life.
Your gentleness and patience reveals a lot in your character. The way you work with animals only comes with being a good person. Peace out.
Katie I love watching you shearing animals, I could watch for hours
You can tell the llama likes being sheared, he's very still and not fidgeting. It must be a relief to get the weight and itchiness off...
I so enjoy watching you shear these adorable animals- they are lucky to have you and your wife care enough to help. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful llama! What a great job the shearer did, and he was so gentle.
I know nothing about the wool. His color pattern is stunning, to me! I really think he's beautiful. I liked how you stopped when he twisted his head. It seemed like it reassured him, and he calmed down. If I were going to own a Llama this would be one of my favorite color choices!
Thank you for another great video! GOD bless
I'll bet that felt like the best back scratch ever! Not to mention how cool that baby was without that heavy blanket.
You were very compassionate, and gentle with him, I'm sure he appreciated it
Bless your heart! He was so patient with you. He’s been waiting years for relief. You rock!!!
You two are so intuitive to start with and then with thoughtful (earned some bone fides & education)& kindness added. Thanks for doing what you do for so many. Wishing you the very best for many years to come. p.s. I'd throw in a few bucks if we get to exact cloning of you both. More animals deserve the best mankind has to offer.
While I was watching this video I felt the relief on my skin that the llama certainly felt after years of neglect.
Well done, now looking younger and happier.
Lovely that you’re so considerate of the animals
💕 Good job ‼️. It’s oddly satisfying to watch you shearing these amazing animals…. I totally appreciate you sharing things verbally about these animals their habits, what they’re like… Thank you so much… Keep up the great work. 💖🌿🕊👍🏽
This guy would've produced such wonderful fleece if he was cared for properly!! He's such a beautiful llama under all those mats!
Good thing he will produce more in a year I guess
Can this "golden fleece" be used?
@@ВикторияПостоева-з3ж It can, although alpaca fleece is considered better.
@@chilltime4878 Thank you.
Fleece that matted is not viable.
Ur a true blessing! The best part of the shearing process is seeing these poor animals relieved. Thank u for all u do!
This makes me want to cry. He/she looked so regal but tentative, walking out of the corral. Great job, Katie. I like the llama's little delay with its head over your shoulder as you were releasing it from the halter. It was like, "Thanks, Katie"❤.😢
Who would of thought, that watching the two of you sheer sheep and Llama, would be so relaxing. Thanks for sharing!!
At the end, watching them stroll away....it just makes me smile.
Awww he is standing so perfectly still!! What a sweetie
I am Amazed at your gentle tenderness shearing the alpaca!!!!!
Love the video!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Wow. Knowing you work in Texas Nd living in Houston myself I couldn't imagine having to wear a heavy winter coat year round. It takes a very special person for these animals to be so calm while you shear them and to know you're there to help. I realize you are paid by the new owners to help but keep up the great work fixing human screw ups. God Bless you for what you're doing.
Can’t tell you how relaxed and calming watching you do what you do! I love every minute of your videos. I’d love to see you do it person !
What an excellent groom! I’m sure the lama felt so much better! Good work. You watch for stress and do such fine work!👍😊
