But I think to myself how incredible it is that I’m doing something that a few months ago, I didn’t know. Rachel keeps me motivated and inspired to keep trying!

Costumer’s tip for garments you don’t want to machine wash: fill a spray bottle with water and vodka (not sure on proportions, you can look it up) and spray your clothing down with it. It kills bacteria and makes your clothes not stink.
We used to do 1:1 at our school theatre. This might be a problem if the garment is painted on both sides like in this case tho. Alcohol being a solvent and all.
Isopropyl alcohol (buy it at 60-70%, or dilute the 91% with distilled water) also works for this. It tends to be cheaper than Vodka (though do NOT use it for dual purpose of drinking…) it also doesn’t run the risk of contacting extra flavorings or preservatives that might stain the cloth that you need to check Vodka for.

I love this! Painting on my clothes or shoes has been a passion for years! A bit of artist advice, PLEASE just use fabric paints they are so much more easy to work with and are much more flexible. Also, while I love the speed at which you create wonderful video's, you can really surprise yourself if you take longer to do project. Less pressure and more time and energy to add those sweet sweet details!
I completely agree that you should wear what makes you happy (as long as it's not illegal) without caring what anyone thinks of it. That's how I live my life, and the freedom that gives me is beautiful.
I think recently I finally caught Rachel's vibe of "done with boring clothes". I'm moving to another country soon, did a huge closet purge and thought a lot about my style, and I realized I really want to put something edgy, messy, or quirky in every outfit I wear. At least with accessories, shoes, or jewellery. And, when possible, with a 🌶SPICE🌶 in clothing itself xD
I love Rachel's appreciation for weathering her clothes. We have seen it time and time before in videos but she continues to educate us whenever possible. The books looked amazing but the shading and darkening of the books made them looks amazing. The leaves looked rather flat and then she added the brown background. She could have left it there but when she gave the leaves shadows, it looks like a pile of leaves
Honestly I've adopted your view of just wearing what makes me happy, and making time to create clothes I will actually be comfortable with and excited to wear! It has made my life 1000% better! Thank you for being my fashion goals 👏
One of many things I absolutely adore is that whenever there's a "time to do something" - timelapse time, or floor goblin, or anything like that - Video Rachel says so, Editing Rachel does a kickass title card, and Theme Song Rachel does some awesome backing vocals. Rachel you're an inspiration - I've crafted so much this year that I wouldn't have tried if I hadn't watched you making and doing so many awesome things ♥
Oh, the nostalgia! When I was a kid (back in the 80s and 90s), my aunt got a bunch of blank sweatshirts and painted various cartoon characters on the fronts for all of the cousins (and Betty Boop for herself). She didn't cover the whole garment. She'd just slap that cartoon character on the front. No background or anything. Just looked like we were wearing a giant sticker on the front. She even did a denim jacet for my cousin (her oldest daughter), complete with bedazzler bead details! They were fun! I also did Scooby Doo in the top of my mortar board at my highschool graduation! I love how the texture of the fabric shows through. It gives the books a softer, country cabin cozy look. And, of course, one can never have too mant fall leaves. This definitely deserves to be worn out in public. Wear it proudly!
In the 80s and 90s I did the same thing, slapped paint on the backs of shirts and even my leather jacket (wish I still had that thing). I only knew a couple of people that could paint anything as pretty as Rachel is doing, but it was all in the name of freedom of expression :) Good times indeed
This reminds of a shirt I have, but its hello kitty as a mermaid. It was painted by a family friend with textured 3d glow in the black light paints. I should get it out and upcycle it (It's too small to wear).
"Why am I the way that I am?...Well, maybe one day I'll learn that answer." Perfect. This NEEDS to be on a t-shirt, and I would buy one in every colour. Also, the corset is amazing! Rachael, you are so insanely talented! And this video perfectly fulfilled my need for cosy pre-autumn content 🍁
DAMN That turned out cute! I thought the book version is gonna HIGHLY overshadow the leafed side at first! BUT I WAS WRONG! Both sides are incredible beautiful! My first thought on the orange side was pumpkin, tho, and I was READY for your Halloween content! X'D
I love EVERYTHING about this! As a lover of painting garments my best tip for if you're worried about fabric paint/paint with textile medium ACTUALLY surviving the wash it to heat set it first (a low iron is usually enough) and just use a gentle cycle/ gentle detergent. 🖤
Your hand painting is always so stunning!! This turned out super duper cute. Please always feel free to show little things you do like the shading between the books because those of us who are not artsy find it so helpful!!
“Lifetouch core” 😂 😂 📸 As the child of a photographer who was in charge of our homeschool yearbook, this really tickled me! Thank you for another amazing video, Rachel. 🧡 📚
Wow, that is my exact view on my wardrobe as well! Why wait to become old and eccentric when I can just decide to wear whatever magical and whimsical clothes I want to wear right now? Also, my jaw literally dropped when you did the final reveal of the painted stays, and now I NEED THEM IN MY LIFE too. I think I have some leafy fabric that resembles your painting in my fabric stash, so now that project has been added to my list of clothes I can’t wait to make! Absolutely gorgeous! 🍁
I just need you to know how much joy your videos bring me! I put your videos on shuffle in the background of my day and your my comfort channel. I’ve even started sewing because of you! I just made my first circle skirt…it’s a bit messy but I’m excited to get better, thank you for everything you’ve gotten me through over the years of watching you 🫶🏽
The part between 10:05 and 11:09 with the thunderstorm in your yard followed by you drawing on the titles and decorative elements on the book spines is probably my favourite moment out of all your videos. 🧡
I just went to goodwill and found 2 costume-y looking victorian style corsets for $4 each and wanted to paint them. This is such perfect timing it's scary. ❤️❤️❤️🤙🏼🤙🏼 I love everything you do and stand for. Literal Queen 🥰❤️😍
How does she manage to tap into that deep 90s core memory EVERY VIDEO???? That LifeTouch comment literally flashed me back to waiting in line in the cafeteria for school photos, and that nebulous blue-purple-pink background. Also loved the video! the corset is so stinking cute, and putting me in my Fall feelings
ooooooo this was so cool, the editing was so well done my eyes were glued the entire time, and take a break girl you deserve one!!! cant wait for more fun autumn chaos!!!
That call to action voice saying "let's get cosy" spoke to me so hard, it honestly reached the deepest ends of my soul xD P.S. OMG I love this vest!!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Still watching but the initial plans remind me of an elementary school teacher’s seasonally themed sweater vest 😅😂 BUT knowing Rachel, it’s going to turn out absolutely stunning 🙌🏽❤️
I've been channeling my inner Rachel this week (in quarantine) in my unborn's nursery. Enchanted forest. Made a tree out of a floor lamp, revamped an antique dresser, hung fake plants EVERYWHERE. thanks for always being so inspiring dear 😊🥰🥰
Rachel, this was amazing!! You are such a wonderful painter, it blows me away! P.S. I literally was thinking "Oh no the video's ending and I haven't seen Frodo." and you fixed it like magic. You're the best!
She really went for it and painted the whole thing. I thought it would super cute to paint Pottsfield on the brown side and Wort and Greg on the orange side and call it good but she really detailed the entire corset and it looks amazing. I will also be seeking out some help to paint all of my clothes I don't like.
I absolutely need to know how washing the corset(s) turned out! Both sides are gorgeous and the blouse with flowy, lacey sleeves looks perfect with the corset!
I have used the fabric medium many times for stage costumes. To turn sheets into fancy Greek tunics with key design hems. They were tossed into the wash many times. Note this also works with latex paint. To really set it well iron it with a paper towel between the iron and the paint.
I am literally speechless!!!! Rachel, this is SO CUTE!!! I’m gonna have to make myself at least 50 bookshelf vests. Also I yelled “YES!” When you made a Frankenstein book on the lil shelf. I love it when my favorite book gets a little love from my favorite content creator. 💖💖💖
I am always so skeptical when you start, and then always so impressed with the results! I need to remember this when I do stuff because I often just stop while I am still skeptical and don't ever finish to see if it would turn out good.
I honestly thought I was going to hate this but when you walked on with the red skirt I was SHOOK! Both sides turned out so beautiful!!!! You are amazing!
Rachel: "This bodice is too long." Me: [adding 3 inches to every bodice to accommodate my long-ass waist] This is gorgeous, and your genius continues to inspire.
you truly are one of the sweetest, funniest and skillfull people i watch here on youtube, your content both have a good amount of fun and cozyness combined with some really amazing crafts. Its always such a joy to watch your videos, they really do cheer me up
I usually save watching the video until Saturday morning, it’s my special cozy time. I curl up in bed with a snack (banana bread & chocolate milk today) and let the cozy wholesomeness reset my mood. And we love KiwiCo in this house! My son currently gets the tinker crate and looks forward to it every month. It’s a nice chance to sit down with him and watch his brain do it’s magic. I’m in charge of organizing the pieces and read out directions if needed, and he does all the labour. In July we did a spin art machine, so much fun not only building it but also using afterwards.
Fuck Yes Rachel! this is absolutely amazeballs. i love it entirely. if we all start wearing what pleases us, they cant stop us! they cant jail us all! i really need to get some of that textile medium now.
💯agree. I may be able to mimic some things but it seems her eyes and hands just have it down perfectly. Never a flaw. 💝 One of her amazing super powers.
The corset is so pretty and so fun! I love the whimsical aspect, it truly makes me smile. Wear it often and enjoy the admiration/puzzlement of all who see you!
Oh...my gosh. These turned out SO STINKING CUTE!!!! I love both sides. Great idea, and fun execution. Judges give it 10 out of 10. Also, this video sponsor came at the best time! I was thinking about getting a Kiwi Co subscription for my niece for her birthday. Used your link to order!
OMG ...girl you outdid yourself!!! I love the corset so much and both sides are vibrant and fantastic!! I want a corset like yours now and I never knew I wanted one until I saw you paint yours!!
Each week I simply can't wait for Friday-Evenings, since I then finally am able to watch your newest video and each video is so encouraging and wholesome and so you that the seven days until the next one comes out can't be that bad anymore. You always make me want to test something out and be okay with not always getting the results I want. Thank you so much for sharing your incredible creativity with us and being so true to yourself ♥ Also I LOVE your painted stays, they are incredibly beautiful!!!!!!
I love this so much! I had a vest covered in books when I was in highschool!!! I bought it at a thrift store and wore it to preschools when I volunteered with the library to be a traveling story time lady 😅 But despite the nostalgia, that leaf vest is chef's kiss 😘 and has my whole heart. It just glows with life and vitality and warmth and whimsy!!!
I think the segments where you just film yourself crafting while on the couch chilling is really nice. If you ever feel tired, don't feel like you need to do all of the crafting in the studio space
I'm still baffled at how all your videos start with a less than perfect DIY job but I am blown away by the results every single time without fail - really, I should expect it at this point. You're the embodiment of 'trust the process' The vest turned out so beautiful and full of whimsy, I'd absolutely wear it if I had one.
I have the same sewing box that you have behind you on top of the cabinet. I literally called my husband in to scream “it’s meant to have legs! I told you it was meant to have legs!” Because mine is legless. You have settled a months long debate. Thank you. Also. I wish I was able to create with paint the way you do. Do you have any tips on getting it to be realistic but not so painstakingly detailed that you want to cry?
In case Rachel doesn’t see this question I hope you don’t mind that I leave a tip. Step back. If possible, look at it in a mirror or upside down. You only need enough visual information for your brain to fill in the blanks. Stepping back gives you more chance to see the bigger structure and your lights and darks without getting lost in detail. I just spent two hours painting a bumble bee, but in the mirror it’s just a blob. I need to take my own advice. Good luck 👍🏻
Career artist here: when you start to feel the stress in your gut (or shoulders or feet, for me it’s the gut), ESPECIALLY when you feel like you messed something all the way up… Put it away for 24 hours or 8 or 2. You almost certainly will not see/care about the “mistake” when you come back. Perfectionist-taming 101!
@@divalea also a tip for Life...."If You make a mistake >>turn it into a Design Feature" or as my Aunty used to say when teaching "If You fall over MAKE IT INTO THE DANCE and throw Your hands up!" x
Aaaaand YET AGAIN, you continue to wow us, Rachel! Seeing you get more and more skilled at the different things you try? HNNNNG it just hits right. This week is no exception. This was seriously awesome, and thanks for sharing it with us!
This was exactly what I needed to watch today and I’m SO in love with your finished corset 😍 the book side is my favourite, but you did such a good job in both sides! You’re so creative and I love watching your work as it progresses
You always make me smile! 👏 The bubble wrap dress! 😆 But you had me at the Jeff Goldblum skirt ☺️😆🙃 , Wall murals, ... so many fun projects. Anyhoo, my Mom, an art teacher, used to paint t-shirts with acrylic paint. She painted the design first in diluted gesso, then the acrylic colors. She ironed the finished painting covered with a sheef of baking paper so it wouldn't stick. She also put the shirts in a hot dryer. They never faded after the heat treatment.
I love how it turned out! Both sides are so pretty 😭 I am 100% with you on the dress in what you want and kick anyone who judges to the curb (luckily, my dressing like a medieval character has not made me lose anyone). I love all of your content. You have never made anything that has been less than loveable. Your videos are a parasocial nightmare, but that's ok!
I absolutely love watching you paint - you have such a great touch at adding details that make it next level. The shading with the books this time was particularly mind blowing to watch
I don't wear corsets and I don't think I'll ever paint anything from my wardrobe, but videos like this one always make me smile and motivate me to do my own type of crafts. And yeah, if you're more unique, people tend to comment on that, so better be ready for some attention, lol.
This is super weird, but I’m gonna say it anyway. Most of your videos have me thinking about how cool it would be to be your kid, growing up around you working on these. Random whimsical projects.
For a moment I thought l opened Simone's video and then few minutes later you actually mention her! I feel very happy when people I like and follow mention other people I also like and follow, it's just so wholesome 😊
Rachel is so close now, so close to achieving her final form: a pile of autumn leaves 🍁🍂
Right like- what Disney character would Rachel be? Definitely the magical leaves that swirl around Pocahontas.
@@HaylieSings I need to disagree, that would be Merida, from Brave
Don't forget the pumpkin on top of the autumn leaves pile 🎃🍂

In the 80s and 90s I did the same thing, slapped paint on the backs of shirts and even my leather jacket (wish I still had that thing). I only knew a couple of people that could paint anything as pretty as Rachel is doing, but it was all in the name of freedom of expression :) Good times indeed
My aunt did this one year as well! I got a dinosaur. The sweatshirt was eventually passed down to my cousins daughter and lives on today lol
This reminds of a shirt I have, but its hello kitty as a mermaid. It was painted by a family friend with textured 3d glow in the black light paints. I should get it out and upcycle it (It's too small to wear).
@@KaylaKasel I’m encouraging you to get it out and upcycle!
That's really cool, but I'm curious..how did you guys wash them?? 🤔 First question I had about this video 😅
Yesssss I’m also in my “paint all of my clothing” era!!! Art teacher vibes 4 ever
Timelapses AND fall content? You’re spoiling us :)
The braided hairstyle is absolutely adorable! A perfect autumn look 🧡🍂
I need a tutorial on how she did those, they look ADORABLE!
The leaf side reminded me of so many of my elementary school teachers in the best way possible!
Your hand painting is always so stunning!! This turned out super duper cute. Please always feel free to show little things you do like the shading between the books because those of us who are not artsy find it so helpful!!
“Lifetouch core” 😂 😂 📸
As the child of a photographer who was in charge of our homeschool yearbook, this really tickled me!
I just made my first circle skirt…it’s a bit messy but I’m excited to get better, thank you for everything you’ve gotten me through over the years of watching you 🫶🏽
it looks so cool!! also my heart NEEDS that white blouse you wore underneath the orange/leaves side it's gorgeous - i love your style so much
The part between 10:05 and 11:09 with the thunderstorm in your yard followed by you drawing on the titles and decorative elements on the book spines is probably my favourite moment out of all your videos. 🧡
Yay it's Friday and that means Rachel's got a new video for us. The corsets l look fabulous. Awesome idea. I'm ready for cozy and Autumn. 💜
I just went to goodwill and found 2 costume-y looking victorian style corsets for $4 each and wanted to paint them. This is such perfect timing it's scary. ❤️❤️❤️🤙🏼🤙🏼 I love everything you do and stand for. Literal Queen 🥰❤️😍
wow love How the Universe is always listening hahahhaa
I love the rain break. One more reason Rachel’s videos are one of my go-to methods of breathing through panic attacks. 👍
Those little combs they passed out before, like we were going to fix our hair perfectly after recess...😆
I really appreciate the time you take to admire nature as it happens! that thumber storm was beautiful!
right??? i really enjoyed that, it was like a small moment to catch your breath and admire nature together
ooooooo this was so cool, the editing was so well done my eyes were glued the entire time, and take a break girl you deserve one!!! cant wait for more fun autumn chaos!!!
That call to action voice saying "let's get cosy" spoke to me so hard, it honestly reached the deepest ends of my soul xD
Yes I need to know the blouse of the leaf side 😩😩
I have used the fabric medium many times for stage costumes. To turn sheets into fancy Greek tunics with key design hems. They were tossed into the wash many times. Note this also works with latex paint. To really set it well iron it with a paper towel between the iron and the paint.
@@lenabreijer1311 Thanks for the tips! 😊 I'll definitely give it a try 🙂
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNINGGGGGG
I honestly thought I was going to hate this but when you walked on with the red skirt I was SHOOK! Both sides turned out so beautiful!!!! You are amazing!
Rachel: "This bodice is too long."
Me: [adding 3 inches to every bodice to accommodate my long-ass waist]
This is gorgeous, and your genius continues to inspire.
Haha same. I learned that lesson the hard way when one fateful time i thought, "I don't need to do a mockup"
🥲
long-waisted babes unite
you truly are one of the sweetest, funniest and skillfull people i watch here on youtube, your content both have a good amount of fun and cozyness combined with some really amazing crafts. Its always such a joy to watch your videos, they really do cheer me up
Ditto that!!
Amen
Golly! I love when you say "now I shall do an ART WHERE YOU CAN ALL SEE"
very good stuff
Rachel, your artistic eye is sublime. I love how you can just look at a photo and transfer the images to a garment. Beautiful!
💯agree. I may be able to mimic some things but it seems her eyes and hands just have it down perfectly. Never a flaw. 💝 One of her amazing super powers.
Yess you’re such a well rounded artist I love seeing you paint!
I bought it at a thrift store and wore it to preschools when I volunteered with the library to be a traveling story time lady 😅
But despite the nostalgia, that leaf vest is chef's kiss 😘 and has my whole heart. It just glows with life and vitality and warmth and whimsy!!!
I think the segments where you just film yourself crafting while on the couch chilling is really nice. If you ever feel tired, don't feel like you need to do all of the crafting in the studio space
I cannot get over how well this turned out, like I should've known better than to doubt it, but its gorgeous! Amazing!
Kinda feels like Book Dress Part three: I am here for it!
These are such beautiful corsets and your skills are so on display when you make them! Very impressive and the outfits are stunning🍁🍂📚
I love how this turned out! Especially the book side, really cozy vibes
You did SUCH a good job!
I'm still baffled at how all your videos start with a less than perfect DIY job but I am blown away by the results every single time without fail - really, I should expect it at this point.
You're the embodiment of 'trust the process'
The vest turned out so beautiful and full of whimsy, I'd absolutely wear it if I had one.
@@dees3179 thank you. I do really struggle with getting very in my head on a project and then suddenly I’ve done one bit and it doesn’t really matter.
Career artist here: when you start to feel the stress in your gut (or shoulders or feet, for me it’s the gut), ESPECIALLY when you feel like you messed something all the way up…
Put it away for 24 hours or 8 or 2.
Who else has been here for years and is super proud that Rachel hit a million? I feel like a proud parent.
I love how it turned out! Both sides are so pretty 😭
I am 100% with you on the dress in what you want and kick anyone who judges to the curb (luckily, my dressing like a medieval character has not made me lose anyone).
I love all of your content. You have never made anything that has been less than loveable. Your videos are a parasocial nightmare, but that's ok!
I absolutely love watching you paint - you have such a great touch at adding details that make it next level. The shading with the books this time was particularly mind blowing to watch
They turned out so good! This was the perfect bedtime video before the opening day of New York Renaissance Faire! 🏰
The results are INCREDIBLE!!!
This turned out beautifully and also love the shots of the rain!
This came out so fricken cute 😭✨
Might have to do this to one of my corsets...
I think that super dramatic white top looks perfect with the leaf side of the stay.
For a moment I thought l opened Simone's video and then few minutes later you actually mention her!
I feel very happy when people I like and follow mention other people I also like and follow, it's just so wholesome 😊
