- Hello everyone!
If you have been following us on IG or YT you probably know we love going to Tahoe especially in summer. It was absolutely gorgeous as always.
Enjoying the moment is always our priority. Making a video comes after that. So I decided to bring the simplest gear possible. One camera, one lens, cheap mic, and a table tripod. That was my whole setup. I pretty much carried the camera in my beach bag. Took it out occasionally.
I only had a 35 prime with me. To capture different angles I had to run around a little bit. That was my only issue. 35 mm is not my favorite focal length. I am still waiting for Canon to make a wider compact prime.
Like most other videos I post on this channel, this is another one of our visual journeys. I am not trying to impress anyone or trying to prove anything. I like to capture beautiful moments of our life and that's about it.

If you want a recommendation: I get that this was a vlog about your day but maybe show different things? all the food looks delicious and I am hungry now but maybe you can get some variation the next time

Beautiful images from the Canon EOS R6. I like the nature there. The only thing is: I'm a little afraid of bears. I recently saw a video of a bear family at Lake Tahoe. They took a bath there. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! Yeah bears are becoming a real problem recently. We see bears occasionally in the area but thankfully not near campgrounds. Until now they always got scared and ran away from us :)

Thanks! It was shot on auto-focus 90% of the time. Probably more :) I think I only had 1-2 scenes where I manually focused

Do you film on the native 800iso for it or just 400?
Thank you! This was actually shot couple weeks ago before the firmware update. I used 400 (base ISO for clog) as much as possible but went all the way up to 3600 for night scenes

Thanks! I got the 35mm only because there was no other native compact prime options. Probably will switch to 16mm when it is released
beautiful video. I love what it conveys. Do you notice a quality improvement in the canon R6 vs the Fujifilm XT-3/XT-4 in terms of color? clog vs flog?

Awesome Video man! Did you shoot manual focus or did you use autofocus? If Autofocus, than which option did you use for autofocus? Eye detect or other focus modes? I have thesame setup but I'm having trouble with the focusing on this setup.

Hey Thank you! I switch auto focus modes frequently. I also use manual focus a lot. Eye af is probably the mode I use the least.

😂 Thank you!Most of the time the reason I use a lens is because I have it available at the time. I really wished I had a wider lens with me. I had to run around so much to get the composition right for a lot of the scenes
@@barparildar Hahaha, ideally I would love a wider lens as well, but the 15-35mm is insanely priced here where I live (Malaysia) It's twice the price of my Canon RP.
Still waiting for Canon to make a compact wide prime. Hopefully they make it soon

@@royaltykidstv Sorry, I couldn't understand your question. For RF lenses that is the widest compact prime. But, Canon has a lot of RF zooms much wider than 35mm. For example, 15-35mm f2.8, 24-70mm f2.8, 14-35mm f4. etc.

How do you like the R6 vs the XT4 and A7iii? I do similar style stuff and I find the XT4 AF to be majorly lacking when compared to the other two, and the lack of 3 party lenses, lo light performance etc. I still love the XT4, just feel like I’m hitting its limit for my use

I do all my color grading manually. Unfortunately there is no LUT to achieve this final look. I wish there was and I wouldn't have to spend time color grading :)

Hey thanks a lot! Focus motor is pretty loud especially if it is hunting so yes mic pics up the sound.
This is a great video but I wasn’t able to get an idea of what the log is like out of this camera, because there is a teal lut on everything

Video looks great! I have a question... As someone that never shoots in LOG, in travel-type videos like these, where you’re shooting things on the go, how do you expose your image to make sure it looks good? Thanks!
Thank you! I usually make sure to shoot in good light. I constantly watch light and if it is not as I want it to be I don’t film.
@@barparildar do you use scales or histograms or anything? Or do you just judge it by your eye? Like I’ve heard to over expose a little? But not sure. Haha.
I use zebras to check my highlights. I don’t use camera light meter.
@@barparildar I forgot to ask. So as someone that never shot log or used zebras, what are your zebra settings and how do you make sure things, like skin tone, are exposed correctly, using zebras? Thanks!
These videos are usually filmed very quickly during our trips. So usually I have little to no time to set up my scenes. I make sure I don’t blow out highlights on my subject. Set zebras to max. Setting exposure to me is a mix of good light and knowing your camera. Every camera reacts different to light. With all my cameras I can make a pretty good estimation only using zebras set to max

I don't shoot long clips so never experienced overheating.

@@madouukim52 it is actually pretty simple. Clog3 was not available by the time I filmed this. It was added to R6 with a recent firmware update.
Hello, I just bought a Canon EOS R6 or should I start with this 35 mm lens? I already have a very limited budget and I want to start my adventure with filming or aim more at the zoom lens? please help me :(
Hi! There is no right or wrong way of starting. On that trip I only had a 35mm with me, so I filmed everything on it. If I had a different lens I would just use that. You are the only one who can decide what lens you should be getting as a starter. You can check from your previous videos/photos which focal length you like/use the most and just start with that lens.

1/So what's your best step to avoid red noise ? (I exposed +1 and still get noise, so Denoise in Davinci then have less detail than Clog)
2/ Do you shoot with Rec709 or 2020 or Cinema Gamut ?

1. There is no universal answer for how to expose an image. It highly depends on what you are shooting. I don’t use camera meter (Ever). I use histogram and zebras and decide the exposure for every scene. Sometimes it is +3 sometimes it is -2. For example if you are shooting a light bright sky camera will try to compensate and light meter will be probably wrong. Same for backlit scenes etc.
2. I use BT.2020
So, all the sounds were recorded with the built in microphones?
Sounds are mostly coming from Rode Videomicro as stated in description. There are some clips I used the built in mic because the mount of videomicro was broke mid trip.

How did you deal with the massive amount of noise the R6 has in Clog? Denoise in post?
I don’t think clog has more noise than other log profiles I used. I try exposing to the right as much as I can to get shadow detail. If I still have too much noise, I crush the shadows and add contrast. I don’t use noise reduction.
@@barparildar It's definitely got way more than Slog3 on my A7siii. The A7siii is basically noiseless if you stay within a couple stops of the 2 native ISOs. The R6 has very visible noise even at base ISO. I'm guessing I'm just not exposing it right. I need to experiment more but I just don't shoot video with it much because it's basically worse than the A7siii in every way. I'm going to need it for a B cam down the road though I'm sure.

@@NickDelDuca so to be clear this was shot in clog not clog3 since firmware update was not released yet. I agree for clog3 being noisy. I was talking about clog which has considerably less noise than clog3.

i love the video in general- i just wonder that the post processing LUT or whatever you used is too much, I would love to see more natural colours and not the more fake looking colours
Thanks for watching. Every now and then I get these comments about natural colors. My answer is usually pretty much the same. This is how I feel and like to edit. It is not made for you, or a corporation or any other entity paying me. So I don't know why I would need to care about natural colors or change my style. This comment is same as writing to a musician saying, "hey I like your song but can you change the chorus and add some boring lyrics for me". Or telling a painter, "I like what you paint but can you change your colors to what I like?". These type of comments only seem to be making sense on YT. Nowhere else. I see you play acoustic guitar. Think about someone telling you "hey you have too much gear in front of you. Bob Dylan didn't have a looper or a lot of pedals to create, played the best songs in the world. I like that. Why do you use too much gear?". This is how you wanna play and it's only you who can decide that.
