Wait, hold up … I didn’t know that NOT vacuuming in lines was an option?! 😂 My mom was so hardcore about the vacuum lines, so that’s all I knew and assumed everyone else did that too 😆 Sometimes even now as an adult with five kids of my own, I’ll send my mom a picture of the carpet lines to be funny, but especially if a kid walks across them before I’m done…. bc then I feel like I need to go over that spot to make a line again where they just walked so the room feels “finished” 😂🤣
I was taught vacuum lines too and you started from far side of room a vacuum your way out the door. Never leave footprints on vacuumed carpets

Thanks for being so honest and doing the research on these hacks! I'm 50-ish lol and I've tried so many cleaning hacks in my life. I do like your vacuum hack. However, I've learned that my carpet gets cleaner if I push it forward in a straight line and pull it back on the same line THEN move it over slightly before pushing it forward for then next line. The way you're doing it, you don't get two full passes on the same line. The trick is to go slowly so that the vacuum has time to pull all the dirt up. But, if you don't have a lot of time and you need to do it quickly, you have a better chance of getting more dirt by vacuuming up and back on the same line then shifting for the next pass than you do the other way. I'm a vacuuming freak. 😂😂😂 Hope this helps. ❤

Haha, love the tip, vacuuming the house was my job as a kid and teen, and as an adult on my own, I hate carpet with a passion 😂 but I still use my little shark for hard floors and mop the same way, which of course, always works better. Love that we can all find our cleaning zen in different ways 🩷
The O Cedar mop is also great to wash walls! I bought extra mop heads when I got mine and I keep two for "cleaner" jobs like cabinets and walls. Use the third one strickly for floors. Yes, I launder them, but I still feel better using one strickly for dirty floors!

Yeah I was going to say please don't use the one you use for floors on your cabinets. I'm not OCD about much but that would gross me out I don't care how clean the mop head got in the wash 😂😂😂
Oh definitely I only have one mop head for walls and cabinets,one for floors bc no matter how much I wash those babies I'm like no I'll know 😂 the ocedar spinmop is the best cleaning tool in my arsenal!!

The other day my husband was talking about giving CPR at work compared to giving CPR at a hospital and said "it's hard maneuvering between a bed and a dresser to reach the patient and having your partner move the needles that are laying all over the floor so you don't get a needle stick"
I've never had drug paraphernalia strewn about my house or decomposing things under my couch yet people will still judge me for having a messy dining room table. It's weird.

The trash bag hack isn’t to make it faster it’s to keep the air out of the bag so you in turn habe more room in your trash as all of the air is out and it doesn’t puff up inside the can. ☺️
*I’ve been a professional cleaner many years and always hated how the air gets in the bag and I once learned to poke a little hole in the top of the bag so as trash goes in it pushes the air up and out of the bag/can but this seems like a good hack for that issue! I’ll have to try it out!**

Maybe common sense IF you've been taught to get the air out of the garbage bag. My mom didn't know that, my grandmother didn't know that - and neither did I! Nor does my dil, my daughter, my sister, dil's sister, nor dil's mom know that. It's a simple tweak - but you have to be taughte something before you can practice it long enough for it to become "common sense"

Every time I see vacuum lines, I think of a particular neat freak friend. He takes vacuuming very seriously, and one time he and two others broke into my house (with a spare key) and cleaned it the day I was coming home from a delicate surgery. I saw the lines in the carpet and said, “Adam has been here!” Core memory of a very trying season.

For the cutting boards, just put it in a very sunny window. The sun bleaches out the smell and stains.
My husband chopped kimchi and it stained the cutting board, I washed it as normal and left it in a sunny window. Its good as new. No extra scrubbing or lemons. ❤❤

Thanks for this vid! I’ve found these two BEST HACKS TO TRY:
- Stainless steel fridge cleaner - Sprayway glass cleaner with microfiber towel. Hands down the best for cleaning & shine. No ammonia so won’t harm plastic protective coating. May need to remove oil with 409 / degreaser first. 10 year old fridge looks brand new.
- White plastic cutting boards: Clean with Dish soap, dry, then spray Clorox cleanup and let sit for about 20-30 min. Rinse and Clean again with dish soap. Like new! 💕
That cabinet cleaning hack with the spin mop always works amazingly well on cleaning walls! So much easier than scrubbing with better (and faster) results!!

I use a Swiffer with 11x11" wash cloths for spills, and it works pretty well on walls too. (We happened to have ribbed cloths that scrub well too.) Cupboards with handles might be tricky but ours with no handles are fine.
What i like is you can get 18 wash cloths for $7 and color code them for gross stuff vs food prep areas. Like blue for counters and white for floors, gray for toilet area. Whatever works. But also they store really well and are versatile (we also use them as rags of course), and you can go through at least 18 of them before you have to wash more. (When I had a spin mop I didn't have many mop heads so I had to stop cleaning when I ran out, until they could be washed. Plus if they get gross it's a bigger deal to throw them away and buy more.) I like that I can hang the Swiffer mop on a lighter weight hook on the side of the fridge
I used to use sponge mops, one for floor and one for walls. It was such a hassle to store them and i hated using them lol. But they were better than full size string mops

I love vacuum lines! It just looks clean. I was also taught to vacuum in 2 different directions - like North>South then East>West. Thank you Kallie for helping to keep drudgery a positive experience!
That is what I do. I go one way then go the opposite way. It helps get up the dog hair better.

For the plastic cutting boards - lay them flat and pour some regular old bleach on them. Leave for like 10 minutes and they'll be clean as new :) no scrubbing needed
I ❤my Ocedar mop, been using one for years, replacing the heads of course. When we bought our current home in 2018, I mopped all of the walls and ceilings in this entire 4 bedroom home, before getting moved in, amongst much other detail cleaning. It wasn’t difficult because the house was empty and clean, but I can’t trust the cleaning of strangers. Anyway, it was worth the effort because everything was fresh and sanitized when we moved in 👍

Cowboy trash bag wielders... 😅
I started putting multiple garbage bags in the can. Two benefits- first when hubby actually takes the trash out there is already a bag there. Next, if something leaks you can easily double bag. I put 3-4 in at a time. (Just to clarify- the bags are layered by putting them in the same way you put in 1 for all 3)

Hi Kally. I have a swifter to do my cabinets. I bought washable thick pads for the swiffer. Mrs Myers Lemon verbena cleaner and wash/mop the cabinets. Works great and smells very nice! My mom taught me the vacuuming technique when I was a kid. The track marks was the way she could tell if I'd done it right!. As always, thanks for you truly helpful videos!
I love seeing old ways from the younger generations. This is how my grandma showed me to vacuum and mop. My kids always thought I was OCD but no I was being thorough. 😂 🎉
I thought I had OCD too cause no one else did it, my mom does it. I’m 37 and that’s how I’ve always done it.

Ocd isn't a joke my friend used to wash his hands over and over cause he had OCD so much that he would get raw hands and blisters on them

I've been doing the trashbag and vacuum "hacks" since I was a little girl, my mom taught me! For those wondering about the two hacks: The trashbag one is to prevent air from pushing up the bag and make it awkward to use, and the vacuum one is just the most efficient with time/effort.
I always do the trash bag thing! It helps the bag cling to the sides so you don’t get big air bubbles when you put stuff in. It works for me at least
I will have to try that! The trash bag fits so tight on the can at work that I always have air bubbles.
I had hubs drill a couple small holes on sides of trash can which allows air to escape. When I was a young teen mom cleaned houses and she taught me that. Works great. Holes need to be toward bottom of cans
I was thinking she must not live in a dry climate, since the hack prevents static electricity, I find it helpful because where I live the bag clings in many directions to the bin.humidity here is 30%. If its above 50% there she might not deal with the bag being super static haha.

You saved my mop, I JUST removed it from my laundry room because it was too big and I wasn’t using it enough (I was using my smaller mop in the laundry tub). I’m going to clean my cabinets AND doors and walls with it! EXCITED!!

The o-cedar mop seems like a gamechanger! I never thought about mopping the cabinets, even though I use a swifter sweeper on my walls and the tops of cabinets for dusting...
Sadly I too am now at a stage in my life where I'm excited to see cleaning hacks I've never thought about trying, my twenty year old self would weep at the notion!
My mom taught me how to vacuum like that when I was 9, I’m now 58 and I still do it that way 😊

I love that you review hacks that have failed. This saves the rest of us from having to go through the frustration. I have read that baby oil on a clean stainless steel sink will help repell water spots & keep it looking bright & shiney between dishwashing. I don't have a stainless steel sink, so i can't confirm that it works. Maybe someone else could comment? Or maybe you could give it a try?
I am sure it will only make drops of water stand weirdly on tge stanless and look ugly, like when you try to mix water and oil in one glass and they look so ugly in the end, not mixed, but not quiet seperated
I use a half a lemon that might have been used for a fish dinner to go over my stainless steel sink as a final touch. Clean the sink then run the lemon all over the surfaces and rinse with hot water. For the truly professional shine, then wipe down with a microfibre cloth. Clean, dry, smells good and no water stains. A friend in pro cleaning taught me that

I have to laugh at some of these TikTok hacks people come up with 😂. As for cutting boards I throw some bleach on those bad boys and they always come out sparkly and clean! I’ve had my spin mop for a few years and absolutely love that thing! I use a new mop head when I clean the walls and cabinets (I do this so I’m not using a clean one that I’ve used before on the floor’s because I will find cat fur on my walls or cabinets 🤦🏼♀️). The mop is also great for cleaning baseboards too! I’m a little older than you, but the way you vacuumed overlapping is the way I was taught to vacuum. I think that is a technique that got pushed to the side and is making a comeback. Now I just let my Roomba do the vacuuming for me! ❤your videos!!

I worked in restaurants for years and the stainless steel cleaner we used would leave that oil layer, too. Then I read the ingredients and it was citrus oil. So that makes sense.
Those mops are called Vileda here in Australia and they are awesome. You can also use a mop for cleaning walls and ceilings or use a window mop, works really well.
They are called Vileda in Canada as well.
In Europe we've got Vileda as well. But up untill now I only used the ones without a small platform at the base. Mine are the obes without the spinning bucket. I guess that platform does come in handy to put some pressure when cleaning cabinets, walls, doors, ...
Baby Oil for stainless steel is great if you live near salt water. Stops the salt from damaging the surface. Also, it keeps fingerprints off the stainless steel.

Im 50, and i clean houses for a living. And arthritis isnt my friend. I have and use the O Cedar mop. Love it. I bought extra replacemt heads for a total of 5.. 2 to clean walls , 2 to mop with, and 1 if i have to use a wax product on floors. Best investment ever

@dianasimplifies I agree, at first it felt as if I was lugging alot of stuff with me. But, I'm already loading/unloading my supplies already. Ironically, there's certain cleaners that I'm allergic to and I break our real easy. When I go to give a quote, first thing I ask is there specific cleaners they prefer, and if not, I just bring my own. There is one client that has a specific wood cleaner and mop that they use, and of course, I follow their request, but other thN that, they leave it up to me. I know I don't have to, but I even "stamp" their toilet paper rolls. It sonething, I saw on tik tok, where you fold the end a certain way and then wet it with their faucet, if that makes any sense. It leaves like a flower stamp on the folds. And all my customers love it. Some leave it out for decor and conversation piece, lol. I also leave lil cards of affirmations on the bathroom mirrors. They say it's the lil things, that count to them. I just like spreading love and positive, cause you never know what someone is going through. And I can make just one person smile a week, I've feel like I've done what I was called to do. I hope you have a blessed rest of the week.🥰☀️
Thanks for the hack reviews. I’ve been wanting an O-Cedar mop…definitely getting one this week. With Carpet vacuum lines is the only way I vacuum…it’s a huge sense of accomplishment when they are in perfect formation.😊

I found the best pretreatment for clothes. Half Dawn dish soap & half peroxide. Depending on the stain I either just rub it in and some I'll let them soak overnight (grease and paint).
I use liquid in the washer, what remains in the bottom of the bottle rinses out into perfect diluted amount that sprayed onto any stain pre-wash works perfectly as remover!
Yes, had a hoover vacuum for many years.. wear ear plugs when using! Simple Green is great for baseboards too.
Have wood cabinets and use murphy oil soap...cleans and conditions. Thanks for testing the hacks for us.
TY for the hacks. I'm always looking for new, easier, better and especially cheaper ways to clean and organize and motivate myself. O-Cedar spin mop is the best! Use on floors, cabinets and walls but I suggest using a separate mophead for each area. Also I use a second bucket to rinse the mophead because I haven't purchased the wash with rinse type bucket yet. My tried and true way of cleaning cutting boards is to add a few equal drops of Dawn dish soap and bleach to spread the solution over all stained areas and if possible leave to soak (in sink) overnight. I like to use a nail brush to scrub a little bit (don't splash yourself) then rinse before a quick, final wash and rinse. I like the nail brush because I feel that the short stiff bristles get into the slice marks a bit better without splashing than a long bristle that would bend. This method has not let me down no matter how many red peppers or carrots or whatever I have cut on my boards. BTW your most effective vacuum motion is "slowly" pulling it back towards yourself, moving away from you is mostly considered a prelim to the backstroke. When time allows I try to vacuum everything from all 4 directions if possible. A small hole in the top of my garbage bag works best for me to puff out the excess air as it fills up. You do what you can, when you can! BestWishes!

😊 Carpet lines! Yes, exactly how you explained it. Sometimes you may need to go over a spot more than once, but following that routine will let you know you covered it all.

I’m really impressed that you’re still using the older vacuum you were demonstrating in your work studio! 👏👏👏 I have a reconditioned industrial Electrolux vacuum that I bought very clean off of eBay 20 yrs ago that still works excellent after all these years! It was originally used in hotel cleaning and has a very long cord! It’s not that heavy to push and I get a lot done cleaning with such a long cord and paid $200 for it back then! The seller had many just like it for sale! It’s made really well and the best upright vacuum I’ve ever owned! I only had to buy my own attachments for it. Your upright looked like it says Hoover on it and I’ve always heard they hold up great as well! 👍 Thanks for letting us know your opinion on all those viral Tik Tok hacks.

I use e-cloths on all of my appliances. If anyone had told me 3 years ago that I would love a cleaning cloth, I would have laughed at them. These cloths are the best thing ever. Just wet them a little and it takes everything off. Love them!

I loved everything you talked about. please do more, I saw the one about the cutting board and tried it after cutting carrots and it just got worse. I used Dawn spray and wash let it sit and it came clean
6:15 cutting board stains come out with a few drops of bleach, dish soap, water and a brush. Soak if needed. If you don’t have bleach, use any product with bleach in it (no mixing with ammonia!): Comet, Ajax, Softscrub with Bleach, Dishwasher gel (the type with bleach, AKA Sodium Hypochlorite)
E cloth for stainless steel is amazing! Even has little scrubbies
I've been doing my walls with a spin mop for years now. I keep a separate mop head for the walls. However, I still prefer an old fashioned cotton string mop for the floors.
For my stainless steel appliances, I use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe down the appliance, following up with an e cloth. I get a streak free shine without using any cleaners and avoiding build up. I have used this hack for years, and I love it.

I use a bit of cleaner in mine, I like hot water with a tablespoon of powder tide OR a splash of lysol OR your cleaner of choice
I think the baby oil would help to prevent fingerprints from forming so fast rather than actually clean the surface. I’ve used WD40 on my stainless for many years. It’s not the best cleaner, but it sure does helps to protect the surface from getting dirty. And I’m with you, I love my O’Cedar spin mop! I’ve used it to clean our travel trail from top to bottom - ceiling, walls & floors!
I use mine to clean walls, baseboards in between hands and knees cleaning the floors, cupboards, doors…it’s phenomenal and is so easy & fast.
I use olive oil, and it works great!!
Do It On A Dime, Kathryn shared the olive oil hack, and I've used it ever since!
1. My husband is a professional carpet cleaning technician and that is how they vacuum the carpets every night in commercial buildings. He also suggests that you walk with the vacuum forward and backwards not push with your arm forward and backwards it's the most efficient way of using your body and you will be less likely to injure yourself.
2. For the trash cans, if you're trying to avoid the static air bubble, my husband drills a little hole near the bottom of the trash can which lets all the air out of the trash can then as you put the trash bag in, the bag should go and smoothly.
3. Not sure if this last one is a good hack or not, but whenever I have stainless steel I always put some Pledge furniture polish on after I clean it, which then adds a protective layer to keep the dust and a stains from sticking and making it easier to clean the next time and it adds shine. But it's not for cleaning it's to make cleaning easier the next time you clean it. Sort of like adding a protective film over it. It sounds like what everyone says they're doing with the WD-40 as well.
I am 51 and was taught vacuuming hack when I was in single digits. I pressured everyone knew this. I'm glad you're getting info out there.

I laughed out loud when you started talking about the ocedar (doitonadime recommend) mop. When I got mine I could not stop raving about it to everyone who would listen! Recently cleaned the kitchen ceiling and walls pre-painting using mop and fell in love with it on a whole new level 😂😂😂😂

I use only baking soda and peroxide to clean white surfaces.
The vacuum pattern is also how you’re supposed to roll paint, for the same reason/coverage.
Ok, I didn't know that everyone didn't vacuum in straight lines. Also, that window cleaner you cleaned your floor mouldings with is what I use on my stainless refrigerator, and I love it. Fun video!

That dishwasher water mover thing made think it could be used to save water for a fast defrost when you need to keep the water going at a steady stream to keep it moving. Perfect for when you forget to take something out and need it to defrost fast, or for Thanksgiving when you wait to the last minute to get a turkey and they only have frozen, or you forget to take it out early enough to defrost in time. Not a total waste of a product but definitely not what it was intended for lol.

Read recently that if your cutting board has deep cuts or is rough or looks dark like that it's full of bacteria and it's time for a new one. They said no matter how you clean it, the bacteria will just keep growing back.
when my nylon cutting boards get old, I use them for other cutting chores in the laundry room, workshop, crafts corner, etc
Oh heck no to the sink dishwasher thingy....anything with electricity and a cord in water!!!!!!! Hell to the NO! What a huge waste of money. It's not too difficult to wash dishes by hand. It's crazy what people come up with. Thank you for the crazy hacks!

I like the mop idea but would definitely want to use new mop head on cabinets.
Agree wouldn’t want to use a mop for the floor on the cupboards. Still think cleaning cupboards with a little soap/water by hand is better especially if there are grooves. Plus you have to dry them

The thing that is cool about that mop is that you can wash the head in the washing machine and dry it in the dryer. Presto. Nice clean mop.

To clean cutting boards, I found a rectangle shaped pumice stone. A circle motion lightly sands the plastic, restoring the like new smooth finish and sanding off any stains. I'm sure it is shortening the life span of the cutting board, but the like new look and feel is worth it and I'm still using the cutting board I bought 3-4 yrs ago.

My Grandma would say vacuum in lines like you did but, north to south, then east to west. Yes you're doing it twice but then you dont miss anything for sure!

I assume you should use different mops. One for the floor and one for the cupboards.
My mom taught us the slow vacuum pull and it definitely works. We have pets so their fur can be a hassle but it gets the fur out pretty nicely.

Love that mop and hack! Also another hack for it is get a small trash bin from dollar tree and it makes it like the upgraded version keeping the water separate!
For your baseboards use a 50/50 mix of water and liquid fabric softener, not only does it smell amazing the anti static properties of the softener repels dirt so your baseboards stay cleaner longer.

I used to clean a huge house (weekend home 🙄) every few months. She had me use wd40 on all of the stainless appliances. It was hard to get all of the oil buffed off, but they did shine. I guess it would also keep them from rusting or pitting like stainless sometimes does.
