I'll never forget in Anne of Green Gables she says something about being in the depths of despair and asks Marilla if she ever gets like that, and Marilla stops and says to her, "to despair is to turn your back on God". I think of that a lot when I feel like bad about something.
I just started to re-read Anne of Green Gables! I missed such books from my youth and modern books are pure trash these days.
@@ebgbjo2025 I love the Anne of Green Gables books. I still reread them on occasion as an adult, as I also re-read the Little House series. After my husband died, reading anything too heavy anymore is just too much for me. But when I want something light and easy to read, I actually read I guess what you'd call "Amish romance novels". Beverly Lewis books mostly. I pick them up at the St Vinnie's stores usually for about .50 cents. Clean stories that are just feel good usually! Of course, they aren't always very accurate about Amish culture, but I don't take them as fact- I know they're just stories.
I need to read those books again, too! That is good advice
Hey Janine - no one was born a good baker, it’s all about practice. I’ve been baking for 58 years and even now I occasionally mess up. Here’s a few little suggestions 1. Keep your yeast in the freezer, only taking out only the amount you know you’ll use 2. Try your Mama’s recipe in a small quantity first, once you’ve mastered the process then double or treble the recipe 3. Mix the ingredients on a gentler speed 4. Did you allow time for the dough to “proof”? 5. Ask your Mama to come over to your house and watch what you’re doing as you’re doing it. Rome wasn’t built in a day, you’ll get there. Best wishes from London, England.
Great advice for all of us. Thank you!
Xander had me laughing until I cried. Love him and his remarks. So precious and his love for Lexi is heartwarming. Janine you are a wonderful mom.❤❤
Glad you enjoyed. Thank you!
Aw, your little ones are so sweet! It is precious how children are so forgiving. They don't demand perfection. They are so understanding and way less critical of us than we are of ourselves. You are doing an amazing job as a mom, bringing Jesus into the everyday. I saw so much of that in this video. Your persistence, determination, letting them help you and be a part of the process, acknowledging yet accepting when things aren't perfect, etc. They will never forget all you are teaching them by example. May God bless all of you in a special way today!
Thank you for the encouragement! It truly is amazing how forgiving and straight forward they are. A good reminder when Jesus said the kingdom of Heaven is like little children!
Experience is the best teacher I've learned that in my 77 years on this earth I love and appreciate God more every day 🙏
When I finally got, “Pray without ceasing”. I found out how much more I was in the presence of God and with the Holy Spiirit🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. If and WHEN we look for the Holy Spirit in the mundane…we find out how God is with us all the way!!!
Amen amen!
Yes, Jesus in my everyday ! To ask for forgiveness isn’t easy for sure but so special for our kids to watch!
Ty for this video. I needed to hear this today. I'm ashamed of how I've complained about my health. I have so very much to be thankful for. God is so good every second of every day. Ty again. Your home is so pretty Jeannine. You will conquer the bread. 💖
First of all Lexi’s amazement and Xander’s wanting to help put a big smile on my face loved it… But I’d love to see you and your mother bake bread … ❤
Stir a tsp of yeast in a bit of warm, but not hot, water and see if it foams up in about 5 minutes. If it does it should be good. Be sure your bread water isn't too hot, like stingy to touch, it will kill the yeast if too hot. Plus, use enough flour so it's not sticky.
Temperature of water is important. You can proof your yeast by in a separate bowl put your water in which is 110 add 2 TB yeast and l tsp sugar and let it sit till you see it get puffy and active then add to you bowl
Hey Janine, thank you for actually talking about the struggle we have as moms that lets me know it’s not just me. I have three girls and it’s not always easy (but I am very thankful that God trusted me to be a mom of three girls)
I love this video! Im so glad you’re back. Hearing this scripture for you “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”
Phillipians 4:13
Thank you i bake bread and the longer i have been making it the bread does get better. So just keep trying i like the way he kids were helping. Also god is needed in the daily life. x
I appreciate your honesty and thank you for sharing these truths and being an encourager.
Thank you I’ve been struggling as a mom and you have no idea how much this video helped me❤
Glad it could be of encouragement! Sending hugs!
You are such a blessing & the lord is using you! I’ve been praying about this exact topic & was urged to read “Habits of the Household” & then saw your video! thank you for following your heart!
I love the real in life you let us see. That is the most encouraging thing you can give us.
Thank you for that. It really helps cuz it does feel vulnerable showing some of that. Take care
I so enjoyed your little chat. You spoke so much truth!! Wonderful words of wisdom. Thank you. 🙏❤️
Thank you for the inspiration ❤ I needed to hear this!
YES!!! Thank you for this video❤ “Flawed human” those words hit home with me!!!!! Thank God, He is always there when I FINALLY give it all to HIM❤
It looks like the yeast is going bad. I also know sometimes weather Plays a roll in baking too. Loved hearing you bringing Jesus into every bit of you life and daily tasks. Always a good reminder. Be blessed
Thank you for your talk. Even I learn things. Thank you. Keep trying with the bread. You’re get it. Have your mom come over to help you. Would love to see a video with her there.
I love this channel, you always manage to make me feel relaxed, & calm. Thank you! So glad i found your channel...
Great video, and great thoughts on bringing Jesus into the everyday.
You all always lift my spirits. Thank you ❤
Thank you for this inspiring vlog , I try to do good but sometimes it just is hard . I do have a lot to be thankful for , I need to embrace that . Thank you Lord ❤️
You are so inspirational! Thank you!🌷
I make my own bread all the time. I have had a beautiful high loaf when I put it into the oven, however, it fell during baking. I did some experimenting and found that my problem was too much yeast. Rye bread is my favorite to make (in fact, I baked a beautiful high loaf this afternoon. For 3 1/4 cups of flour, I use only about 1 1/4 tsp of yeast. You may a little more than that. I would recommend cutting back on the yeast and you may find that helps! I, too, love the smell of fresh baked bread!
Your flowers and flower beds look great!! Your baby girl looks mesmerized by the bread baking😃❤️. Her looks are a wonderful blend of the both of you!!
Don’t force yourself into the kitchen……invite yourself into your kitchen. I also wanted to give my girls the memories of fresh bread baking that I grew up with. I bought a bread maker!😳 We started making bread dough and dough babies were born! Each girl got a glob of dough and they made dough babies, decorated with nuts, raisins and seeds. My oldest daughter was high energy and it was so exhausting. I remember going out on my back deck and saying how many times can you run around the yard? Recently Poppa and I got out our camp chairs and asked our granddaughter….how many times can you runaround the yard? 😅Grace! Give yourself some grace!
Love your message ❤
Thanks for keeping it real😂...so many channels just show of like if there perfect people and make me feel like i'm a failure...but your channel is encouraging...thanks Jannine!
Thank you. 😀 yes it's a bit humiliating but I also can the same when I constantly see that on social media. It's good to know you aren't alone in your struggles!
Get in touch with Sarah from Our Tribe of Many, she bakes bread for her family of 11 children, she has baking bread down to a fine art.
I literally squealed when I saw little lexi/lexy walking. it's so cool to see a beautiful mother and her beautiful children that God has given her to take care of grow and reach different milestones (ex: mama java, little lex walking, xander becoming a big brother, etc.) God bless you!!
Dear Janine,
Thank you so much for making such a wonderful video, i enjoyed it so much! I love baking and i used to have loaves made with freshly milled flour always come out a flop too. But then i started watching some bread making videos put up by Grains in Small Places (a youtube channel). She taught me how to now make the best loaves ever now! You can try watching some of her videos on bread. All you need to do is knead to the window pane test. It is when you knead till the dough can stretch so you can see light though it. Please try her way of making bread and you will not be disappointed!
Really enjoyed the talk....very inspiring. Lexi is on the move now! I'm sure you'll figure out the bread....it smell good. Too cute! Have a wonderful weekend ❤
Thank you! And you as well! It's absolutely gorgeous weather here!
And I love how real you are!!! ❤ Everyone makes mistakes with baking no matter how long.
Thank you. I needed to hear this❤
Thank you for this message, Jeanine! I'm having a rough day today and this really helped bring me some peace. Here's to leaning on God in moments of need and sadness and knowing He has it all figured out 💕
Amen! And sending hugs your way. Life can be so bumpy at times
I JUST read a quote from St. Bernard to his priests: "Be reservoirs, not channels." A channel lets all the water flow through until there is nothing left. A reservoir has water coming in from a source beneath and only gives the overflow. Spiritually and parentally (is that even a word?) speaking, we can't give what we don't have and part of this passage I was reading spoke about how we can't really have a truly Christian "active" life without a "contemplative" life. We will only be channels if we aren't talking to God and praying and listening and learning or aren't doing that enough. We will be giving the best of our limited, frail humanity and it will reach a breaking point on some days. When Christ acts through us, we are reservoirs. It isn't our work. It is His and we are the instruments. His presence is flowing out of us. This really struck me. So many times I got frustrated by the actions of my kids without seeing the spiritual dimension of any of it. Now I recognize that holy people see: "God is letting me see how I want my way." "God is saying let go." "God is asking me to be patient." "God is asking me to trust". "God is asking me to change directions here." etc., etc. Where I saw two people in a situation, me and the child, God was actually there. Sure I wanted to teach God's values, but that is not the same. God have mercy. Sorry about the bread, but evidently it still tastes great! I only started baking bread last year so all that comes to mind is either the yeast was old or the bread needed to rise longer. When the bread is rising, I read it should be covered and in a warm location. Was your bread covered? In a warm location? Also hate gossip and slander. Learning more and more why God loves silence. Still, I would let a school age kid open his heart and talk about anyone and anything. Especially in this day and age. I would just try to interject a more loving/ kind/ unbiased way of seeing things that brings faith into the mix or helps him to see the ways of the world he needs to beware of. All the best!
Good words. Thank you.
So much truth.
Hi Jannine, freshly milled whole wheat flour takes longer to rise than white flour. I would let it rest for a longer time (up to 8 or more hours) so that it can rise properly.
Thank you Jeanine for the ponder talk.... We do need to hear that from time to time. Life is real and we do fail.... But its so good that we dont have to stay there. Through God's grace we can rise up again with courage and strength... Why is it that so often we rely on our own strength? And use Jesus as our spare tire????
On the other note... I looove yeast doughs and am experimenting sourdough now for a while but to be honest I could not pinpoint what you could possibly be doing wrong. I normally use my bosch mixer for my doughs and my mother inlaw taught me that you want to add flour till it just sticks somewhat on the bottom of the bowl. For sourdough though you want the dough to be a bit more firm. I love using farmhouse on Boone sourdough sandwich bread. Very easy and hasnt failed for me yet where other sourdough bread recipes have been fail and success ☺️
Zander is so sweet “it smells good”!
Hi, you just come into my you tube feed, love your message you are amazing may God richly bless you! ❤
Welcome! Thanks for taking the time to say hi!
You are doing good with your Precious Family, we do the best we can with what we know. God knows our Heart. ❤
Going through the book of acts as well. We got rc Sprouls book on it, and have been enjoying it
Thanks for sharing the fun of it all and the kids like the sad bread so it couldn't have been all that bad of course I have no room to talk because I make sad bread as well lol and yes I still eat it because it taste ok Have a great day!!
Just love your coffee chats! Thanks for your thoughtful conversations. Oh, and bread is life! lol, you will get it :) Hang in there.
Yes! Except my bread probably wasn't being referenced 😆
I know you were speaking a lot to mom's, but what you said can apply to all of us. Thank you for being transparent. I needed to hear that and have the reminder.
Thank you and yes it does apply to all of life. God bless!
Oh truly love the blueberry cobbler aroma and taste from the mama Java coffee
So so glad! Thanks for giving it a try!
I had 4 little ones,hubby worked 2 shift.
Some days,I just pretended I was the nanny,hahahaha..
or would think,at least I am not going west in a covered wagon..BG
Humor really is important, not as important as remembering to put God in everything, but it helps🙂
I did try and let my children know, that as they answer to me,I also had someone to answer to.
God Bless
Donna
I loved Xander saying it's gooder 😂 My husband likes doughy bread 🍞 I'm definitely not a bread maker... it never works out for me, but I can make yummy scones from scratch 😋 It's not about the looks, tho if it tastes good. I needed to watch this tonight... I feel like certain ppl bring out my complaining/ gossip a lot & I don't like that attitude. I've been asking God to change my heart & help me with grace not only bcuz I am that yelling parent but also as a wife bcuz my husband works so hard to provide for us & is so good at always being there for all of us... he deserves a calm & understanding wife...... thank heavens, nobody is perfect, tho! 😂😊 God bless your family, friend ❤
Scones sound amazing! Yes no one is perfect. I have so much to grow in. I too, tend to quickly take my pessimism out on my husband cuz he's my safe place. And I'm trying to work on that as well. He doesn't deserve that! Sending hugs!
I like when you share your beliefs and talk about the faith; you are very real and truthful 🌺🌼🌸
Thank you
I enjoyed the talk. ❤
Me too… I tried to run my life and messed up a lot.
Now… I do all things through Christ and it’s amazing.
I went through a phase when all of my bread flopped and it was the yeast!! Even though it wasn’t expired and it smelled right when I was preparing it… it still flopped. I switched to red star (quick rise) in the jar and… bam! Mama baking skills are back!! Maybe you got a bad batch of yeast 🤷🏻♀️ either way… my whole family LOVES you and yours. You are an inspiration ❤
Best Intro ever!!!!😆🤣 You go girl to keep trying!!! I made a batch of bread in my 20's. It turned out like yours. Tasted great and I ate it, but... never tried it again until 20 yrs later I made a batch of sour dough; one time I think it turned out. That Lexi walking!!! Every video each week she looks older and her hair gets blonder!!! She is walking great!! She was certainly fascinated with the process. She's so cute. Loved it!!! Xander starting school!! Wow! His remarks about the bread were great!!! Loved your God and life talk! Keep them coming!!! You all enjoy all that bread and eat a bite for me cuz I can't have bread anymore!!! Love you guys!! 💕💕 Have a blessed, wonderful weekend!!!
Aww thanks 😊 you sound like me! Try it once, no go... then forget about it for awhile 😅 thanks for being here and send me some sour dough! 😋
I love how you talked about bringing God /Jesus into out daily lives especially with our children. I wish you were around when I was much younger trying to raise two little boys n teach them the grace of God. Unfortunately you weren’t a twinkle in your Mama’s eyes yet. I have to complaint you though you said it beautifully. But it doesn’t mean we can’t live better today in bringing Jesus in our lives daily n give Him the glory.
Wish I could help out on the bread problem but I’ve never made bread although I have made lots of coffee cakes. But I do cheat. I buy the frozen dough you get at the grocery store.
Can’t believe Xander will be starting school this fall n Lexie is walking all over now. Mom’s hang onto those precious memories they grow up fast.
♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟🙏
Hey Jeannie I hope your having a great Friday!
I love the talk about God and to spend time with Jesus through out our days.
I feel the same exact way about thinking I know everything about parenting, however I don't. I need Jesus every day because He knows our children and ourselves and how to guide us.
Media and social media makes this "perfect life" such as the perfect way to live and raise your kids. It's a generation of "I" and self care.
I agree that we should take care of our selfs but we ultimately need to give it all to God! And not being selfish.
I hope also you and your husband get more quality time as I mentioned last week. We also can lean on our husband's in time of need.
Thank you Jeannie for your constant reminders that I need to hear weekly!
And a side note: your daughter walking is sooooo cute! What a cutie!! How old is she now? I have a 17 month old son and he started walking at 13 months.
I hope you have a blessed weekend!!!! Much love from Arkansas! God bless you!
Thank you Becca! Yes 💯 agree with you 👏 thanks for sharing. We are currently coming to the end of a family getaway in the mountains for reconnecting which has been incredible for all of us. Lexi stated walking around 14 months. She walked Rather late but now she's trotting everywhere!
Encouraging thoughts. Thank you
So many nuggets from your video✝️
Honey or sugar is important in bread to rise nicely and enough flour to not fall in. We all make mistakes. I like it that you can still go on with life even though you didn't have good luck. I grew up being very un thankful when something didn't work out good. I had to train myself otherwise.
Good evening from England my favourite family , hope you are having a wonderful day so far 😊
Thank you and you too!
Your heart!!❤️🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
First blooms in the spring are always so exciting but the first petunia blooms need to be trimmed off and that makes them really grow and give lots of blooms. Love your videos😊
Thanks for the tip! I really need to learn more of this stuff. You think I would with the sister I have 😆
Yeah Lexi is walking! ❤
Lexi is getting SO BIG. Still LOVE her big smile.
Thanks for you’re uplifting message how get Jesus more in life and avoiding negatives and gossip. We just had a death in our family a few days ago. Its very trying time for us.
I'm so so sorry to hear this. Sending much love ❤️ and our condolences. 💔
I made some 1 time where 1 loaf was great and the other loaf was perfect on the outside but raw and a cave on the inside. The only thing I could think of is the oven was messed up, (which I knew it was sometimes hit or miss).
Yes only Jesus ❤️
Thank you for what you shared! Very inspiring to me as a mother and Christian. ❤️
Try making just 1 loaf at a time… 1 flopped loaf isn’t as disappointing as 6! Start with a very basic recipe: 1 T yeast, 1 cu. water, 3 cu. flour, 1/4 cu. honey & 1/4 cu. oil. Use a metal bread pan and check for doneness with a meat thermometer. Should be done at 190°.
Thank you for the tips. I should start with one loaf. Your are right
Lexi is so gorgeous!
I remember seeing that on Anne of Green Gables.
Im like that also Gods nature is amazing and without God I do to Im most definitely human. I always say God puts us through trials to progress in our faith in God. God has helped me and he has humbled me and helped me so much. I love this video. Words that God tells us like you spoke. What a mighty God we serve.
I remember being newly married and decided to make bread on a rainy day to surprise my husband,,BIG MISTAKE,!I MADE CONCRETE BLOCKS😂! I could have easily used it as a weapon! Threw it over d fence for d neighbor’s doggies,3 days later it was still there! But d second time I asked my mom to show me and she did and ever after, success, don’t give up,I still make bricks off and on but I can always blame d yeast😊!
Lol thank you for that! I need to try again and have my mom come over!
The Bible tells us and these are Gods own words. I have no greater Joy then to see that my children walk in truth. And I ask God what brings you joy because I know the Joy of the Lord is my strength. I remember the scripture Let God be true and every man a liar. So I call out to God for his examples and not my own. So I keep reading Gods Words and I am strengthened. By the way I have had bread flop too. Yet more recently my breads have not been as well as in the past. With ingredients less is always best. There are many different ways you can use bread that does not turn out so well. God Bless😇
Thanks for the encouragement! God bless
I love your chats. You bring up very good points. Thank you for being so transparent. You are so cute making your bread! ☺️🍞
😅 what bread? Lol.
You need to ask Giselle Waldner about how to do bread. She is a Hutterite and makes bread for her colony in Manitoba, Canada. She has a RUclips channel. I think she could help you with your bread baking struggle.
I'm sorry I don't know how to make bread very well. I am pretty much limited to a bread machine.
I made a very small loaf today in my air fryer! 3 ingredient, no kneading! It turned out well!
That's wonderful! I will keep trying as well
@sallyhart1576, can you share your recipe, please? Thanks!
@@valerierennell9680 The recipe is all over youtube.! There are recipes for larger loaves - yes, 3 ingredients and no knead. I'll be trying a larger recipe next week. Just search for 3 ingredient, no knead bread and you'll find many recipes, and you can choose the one that suits you best.
@@sallyhart1576 thanks
Those will make fantastic breadcrumbs and croutons
I'm so sorry about your bread😢 it's no fun if you've got flops.... Thank you so much for your advice on every day. Life, your little Bunny trails were very interesting.😊
I commend you for ever having success with bread, I’m guessing it’s the yeast. Just a guess lol. One thing I remember growing up with my mom was that it was very evident to me that all the wisdom she had came straight from the Bible so growing up I knew what was feeding her inner man and therefore what would feed mine.
You may be right on the yeast. I need to get a new batch. Thanks for sharing!
Peach woman…my heart to yours
I don't know your recipe but personally , I always proof the yeast with warm water or milk and a little sugar & let it sit until it looks frothy.
Thanks for the tip! I need to get that again. I think it may have been the yeast
Sorry about your bread!! Enjoy our porch talk!!
Always check your yeast (with some sugar ir honey- it needs something to eat to release the gasses) and your water temperature is very important. Too hot kills the yeast and too "cold", well, imagine a cold winter morning are you wanting a nice hot/warm shower or are you okay with a cool/cold shower? I don't remember if you added your salt with your yeast, that might kill it, too. Don't worry about it, you'll be whipping out the bread in no time.
As for your Jesus in the daily life...yes, every single second of the day we need Him. That's where people fail, when people think they can function without Him. The sooner we realize that we mess life up without consulting Him about the big, the small, the in-between...the better off we'll be because we will seek Him more.
My husband has Multiple Sclerosis and he's on disability. To make ends meet better, he fixes chainsaws and lawnmowers on the side. When he drops a screw he can do two things, 1.) Attempt to find it 2.) Go to the hardware store around the corner and buy a new one. In order to conserve costs, he searches. Now his area is not messy, but it is full, so it's not easy. He will look for a while trying to find screws. When he can't, he prays, and he ALWAYS finds them. I always wonder why he doesn't pray first.
If we believe in God, we should believe God. Trust Him, He will NEVER steer you wrong.
You need the honey to activate the yeast!
I can’t get bread out of a store package! Xander…school….oh my!
What was the weather like that day? Have you heard that cloudy/rainy days can affect rising? I guess barometric pressure. Maybe your issues were more severe than the weather could affect, I'm not sure. And did you proof the loaves at no higher than 170°F before baking? Grandma said have the water at 114° when activating the yeast so as not to kill it and that is hot enough.
I have a mill like yours and really enjoy using it to make my family healthier food...makes me wanna try out your recipe sometime. I think the honey might've helped get the yeast workin. thanks for sharing🤍
The Disciple Making Parent is a wonderful book, too. ❤️ ❤️❤️ Thank you for this today.
Thanks for the recommendation!
@@theMennoniteMom I love the Tripp brothers books, too. So much. I’m a pastor’s wife and always on the lookout for biblical books on every subject. I came across the above mentioned earlier this year. It’s very solid.
Make croutons with your bread. Homemade croutons are delicious!
The kids like it so… it must not be to bad !
that looks like chicken food! Test your yeast-add some honey and warm water and make sure it's bubbling good- I always proof yeast- for two loaves I'm using 2 1/2 tsp yeast, mix with honey and about 3 1/2 cups of warm water. Set that somewhere warm. Then I place about 6 cups flour with 1 to 2 tablespoons of salt and mix that together. Then add the warm water to the flour & salt. My amounts aren't exact- I go by texture. Once mixed, I cover with towel, place in warm spot, let rise til about doubled. I use floured hand to punch down. It's pretty wet dough, so I use spoon to turn out onto heavily floured board, then work more flour into it, divide into two, place into greased pans with some corn meal on bottom. Cover again, then let rise until at least at lip of loaf pans. You can brush on egg wash if you want. Add pan of water to oven and preheat to 425 then bake in preheated oven til golden brown and hollow sound when you knock!
You have this down pat! I love it! Thanks for all the tips and how tos! I plan to tackle again when I get home
Bread pudding!
Don’t feel bad about the bread. I can only make focaccia which is the most basic (water, yeast, flour and olive oil). White bread still seems intimidating to me 😂
I have a lot of family recipes with vague flour measurements. I always love, "as much flour as it takes", LOL. Measure the flour that you used the next time you make this. Write down how much you used. See if you like the end product. If you like it, you are good to go and you know what to use going forward. If not, make a note as to what you didn't like. Then you can adjust when you make it in the future.
Great tip! Yes, this recipes are so annoying 😅
Thank you for sharing what was on your heart ❤ I'm a mama of a 1 and 3 year old and this encouraged me immensely! It was exactly what I needed to hear today. 😊
We are all here for each other. It's a hard season these little years. But also such a fun season as well!
