Agreed. I learned to play both "BBC" and "Daddy Wasn't There" on the guitar. I was amazed that the chord structure was at its base very simple, presumably to add to the 60s vibe. But the tune and lyrics are good, and the arrangement are brilliant. The songs were written by Susanna Hoffs (a.k.a. Ming Tea lead guitarist Gilian Shagwell) and Matthew Sweet (a.k.a. Ming Tea bassist Sid Belvedere), both excellent musicians and songwriters. I don't think those two are capable of writing a dud.
This song is half serious. I feel really bad for Austin. "I needed a father." "I'd sit in my room and cry and ask myself the reason why." That's deep man...that's deep.
Ironically, this was a movie I saw with my father and about a week later he abandoned me at a public park to get McNuggets and vodka. So this hits home for me. ((and also is a BOP!))
My father skipped out on my wedding and hasn't talked with me for about 4 years. Now he wants to meet up this Saturday. Let's see how that goes lol Edit: it actually went good, he didn't pull a 180 but a 45 degree. Hopefully we won't turn back to his old ways Edit: it was a face. He's still a joy sucking vampire. I've forgiven him and just moved on. You just gotta drop toxic people from your life sometimes.
