@@Stackali Hearing that, a few years ago, I would have said that was a lie, but I heard that, too. But this was a real band, beforehand. Can't believe they sound so good, too.
With you, there. This was a joke song but, like you said, it is better than most tunage out now. Plus, having Susanna Hoffa and Matthew Sweet playing makes it better. Great tune, though.
Fun fact: Myers formed the band with Sweet and Hoffs following his Saturday Night Live stint in the early 1990s.[2][3] The members all adopted 1960s personas and performed under pseudonyms, with Myers creating the character of Austin Powers. Myers' then wife Robin Ruzan encouraged him to write a film based on the character.[3] He then wrote Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, which was directed by Hoffs' husband Jay Roach. (Yes I copy and pasted. I can't type all that, I'm exhausted right now)
Only just found out that it's Susannah Hoffs of the Bangles on guitar there, and that her husband directed all the Austin Powers movies. Never knew that
@@blackmore4 The movie was an offshoot of the band. Mike Myers formed the band with Sweet and Hoffs in the early 90s and all members adopted 60s-type personae and pseudonyms. The Austin Powers persona was created by Myers, and his wife at the time encouraged him to write a screenplay based on the character. Hoffs' husband didn't "get" her the part, she already had it long before the movie.
Yes, it was Mike Myers singing. The original band included: Susanna Hoffs and Mathew Sweet. I think this band was a “test” for the Austin Powers concept in general. What I can say for certain is a band I was in (Size 14) was headlining a show at the Viper Room in LA and no one knew there was a special guest playing after our show. Myers, Hoff, Sweet and others took the stage. I think about 50% of the room had cleared out. This may have been the first and only live performance of Ming Tea.
It's a shame she isn't actually playing guitar, and a pretty bad fake job, sorry to say. I do love and respect her singing. The Bangles were a good band.
Once upon a time in England there was only 4 channels of course until the introduction of satellite TV, and cable, many a days pretending to be sick to get off school my parents would make me watch those educational programs on BBC 2 with the awful music in between the programs it was torture.
Think that was the joke here. Much like here in the USA with our ESPN, I think Mike was trying to poke fun at BBC, basically asking how many channels do you need?
I grew up during the 60s when all of this was happening. I can really appreciate the work done to make this as about as authentic as you could wish for . Matthew Sweet did his home work writing this one and the visuals are perfect right down to the authentic equipment . Did I mention it's a GREAT SONG as well ?
I too grew up during the 60's when I was a kid. 1966 I was 10 and this video with Austin Powers (Mike Myers) & Ming Tea is right on with this music video of the music scene of the 60's Very realistic of that time period.
Ming Tea actually played some gigs. Susana Hoffs from The Bangles is on the guitar as GILLIAN SHAGWELL. Mike Meyers gave her that name. Her husband actually directed Austin Powers. She says they have great fun with Mike Meyers and he can really jam...drums, bass...the guy is versatile. So was this a real band? I will say yes! Why Not!
If anyone wants to know why my VHS copy wore out quickly, this film is easily one of my favourites, and was one of the first I actively watched the credits of because of the great hilarity of it, and this song actually being awesome
Mike Myers is crazy as hell and off the chain Ming tea BBC.. is most excellent rock song well done well performed Austin Powers can rock and should be knighted sir Austin Powers by the queen.. Mike Myers made it a dream and then a reality.. peace baby ✌️☮️........ Wait a minute, Did I just see Susannah Hoffs from the Bengals
Love it up to this day lol lol, bbc one bbc two bbc three lol love it , this is the type of song dat makes u either dance, smile or make u move ur body. Rest in peace mini me
They should have a Time Life commercial for an Austin Powers 5 CD Greatest Hits collection featuring this and Dr. Evil's cover of "One of Us." Order NOW! 19.95 plus S&H
That moment when you realize a song recorded by a faux band in the 1990s as a joke, is better than most current pop songs on the radio.
Yep

You are fucking right
Easy boomer.
My aunt always loved the BBC. That's what she said on Craigslist, anyway.
😂
Glorious
Over a few, maybe?
Michael Scott: That’s what she said. (Laugh)
fucking LMAO
I remember when I had this on VHS and would fast foward the tape until the end so I could watch this. Memories.......
Are you me?
I did the exact same!
The memories
Me too XD
Yes!
I absolutely cannot resist breaking into this song every time I hear someone say "The BBC".
Everytime...
It’s either this or ‘the Big British castle’ 😂

This was a great story. I especially liked the end. I am going to tell this at dinner later.
No wonder I got the "Ballroom Blitz" feel from the song. I also love how Sweet had the song in Wayne's World.
That explains a lot....
ex-wife has good taste :)
These facts are not "fun", they're just facts.
Only just found out that it's Susannah Hoffs of the Bangles on guitar there, and that her husband directed all the Austin Powers movies.

+w0bbl3r : That's what movie credits are for. Hang around and read them sometime.
It's also what Hollywood director husbands are for. Getting parts in Hollywood movies.

Susanna got HIM the job as director
1:55 The legendary Hoffs side-glance ... still irresistible!
4 years later and you still getting 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
If she did that to me I would die. Unless she was looking for an escape route.
who is ready for Austin Powers 4?!
Rip
this is the year, I'm telling ya fellas
If they ever make it 😒
mini me is gone
Maybe next decade
The best music video portraying the 60's that was made in the 90's.

Susannah Hoffs on the guitar. One of the all time greatest rock stars ever!

Susanna looks so pretty 💕
Having no experience of the 60s (i was born in 1982), it's retro stuff like this that makes me miss the 90s so much. Anyone else feel like that?
This song's the reason why I broke up with my girlfriend... She couldn't take it anymore!
sonnyblack0870 HELLOOOOOO!
I love Thomas Sowell
You gave her BBC hell?
Your BBC?...
Yup... Everytime I’d ask her to make me tea.

ive literally had this song stuck in my head all god dam day. and its still awesome.
Ever since Austin Powers first came out in 1996 I'm still watching It to this day of 2019 and this song is my favorite one that never gets old
1997
I'm on that part of RUclips again...
Well to be fair i did look for it and then clicked on it, and then replayed it like 30 times
About 5 years after this movie came out we did get a BBC3 and a BBC4 in the UK, (BBC3 was lost again a few years ago).
watching this at the end of the VHS copy I had amazing!
none of these BBC's existed when the song was written....amazing!
It's the power of a man's mojo. It's his happening, baby, and it freaks him out!
Actually the first two did, hence the funniness of the song.

@@defaultusername123 nah. When this was composed where was only bbc 1 and 2 as TV channels. In the noughties it increased to 4.
Suzanna Hoffs!!!! Still got the biggest crush on her!
Love seeing Susanna Hoffs rock the Rickenbacker!
Matthew Sweet on bass, Susanna Hoffs on guitar
I love when videos do the camera angle like at 2:05 that shows the band singing all in line
You think Mike Myers still sings about BBC?

I love the Jim McGuinn glasses of the bass guitarist!
Doing the BBC, the precursor to Netflix n' chill?
I remember watching this live on MTV, god I'm old.
MTV used to play music? I thought it was just a shit channel for reality shows?
In 1970, there was only BBC 1 and BBC 2. And ITV. They did however have Dr. Who on BBC 2 at five on Friday.

'One Hit Wonder' maybe?
Of course now it’s BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three (time sharing with CBBC) BBC Four (time sharing with CBeebies), Five Live, 6 Music and Radio 4 Extra
Susanna Hoffs (from The Bangles) on guitar, Christopher Ward (former MuchMusic VJ) on guitar, Matthew Sweet on bass.
this slaps and for some reason i woke up singing it today, so here we are

Susanna Hoffs, the definitive 80's crush 😍.

Matthew Sweet rocks! I loved (still love) that he was in this!
