I have a 1st Gen. PS3. It plays PS1 and PS2 games flawlessly. It's really just a great system. I love that I've been able to keep all of my games for PS1 and PS2 without the hassle of multiple systems. For the amount of space you could save, as a serious collector and enthusiast, I would definitely recommend picking up a 1st Gen. PS3.
It does play PS2 games great for the most part but there’s some known flickering or disappearing walls or body parts, such as on Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 4: The Room
@@TEDdotcom the first gen PS3 actually has a ps2 inside that will play flawlessly. The second gen plays ps2 through emulation and will as you say glitch on certain titles
@@TEDdotcom you dont really need to play ps2 games natively or off ps2 discs anymore. the PS3 has many remastered ps2 games with widescreen support for 16:9 like the ico and shadow of collosus bundle as well as bundles like jack and daxter and rahet and metal gear and even that konami mech shooter series zone of enders all remastered. ps3 is my fav sony system of all time.
I'm just revisiting all your PS3 videos this week because I am really getting back into playing it again. I picked up a Retro Fighters Defender controller and it's absolutely fantastic.
Ummm...The First Disgaea game came out in 2003 for the PS2 it didn't start on the Nintendo DS. Infact before the first game got it's remaster on the Nintendo DS we were already on Disgaea 3 on PS3.
MetalJesusRocks No worries Jesus! Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as a twat! I just didn't know if you were big into the series and if you saw a game entitled just "Disgaea" on the DS it makes sense to assume it started there!
PS3 was having a tough time when it came out so it was really more of a victim of being "on the wrong system" at the time. If it would of came out more at the end of the PS3 lifecycle it would of done much better
Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Deadly Premonition - The Director's Cut, Resonance of Fate, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Puppeteer: I've got all these F-ing awesome games!!! Disgaea 4 and Time Crisis 4 are on my list! Thank you so much, Metal Jesus, for letting the world know about them!!!! :D
CuCuz to be honest, heavenly sword didn’t age well today. The combat is less engaging than god of war and the voice acting can be ear piercing 90% of the time

protoluigi you're the first one that has said something good about the playstation all star game because everybody else said it sucked just because it's just lie super smash bros
i guess you're right,i mean everybody has an opinion,i for one have unpopular opinions like people like the legend of zelda games, while i think they're boring,i guess it's all about tastes
i guess people tend to hate things that are either new,or remakes or even copies, that's why people are so against PSASBR because they hate that it's a copy of smash brothers,i have the game and i think it's a decent game,it has good characters, the stages are nice and the super moves are not bad,the only complain i have about the game is that stupid purple head that you fight as a boss, but other than that i think it's a good game
I think Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a hidden gem and worth checking out if you haven't already. The Army of Two series is great to play with a friend, but not sure if those are hidden gems or just less talked about games.
I really appreciate you putting the Games Shown at the top. I simply copy, then pasted the games I wanted into the PSN store (which was opened in the next tab of my computer) and searched that way. I placed the games into my Cart from my computer, bought them, and then sent the games to my PS3 Queue. Very simple, yet useful. Thanks!
like to correct you on something cause you said for Disgaea started on the DS but it originally started on the PS2 in 2003 while the DS version was on 2008 and even the PSP version was released on 2006
So many memories, Heavenly Sword was the game which introduced me to HD gaming, and the facial animations just blew my mind. I remember shouting "That's Andy Serkis" when the bad guy made a weird face, just awesome moment. Also glad you listed Resonance of Fate, one of my favorite game of the generation, and for me, the best gameplay a JRPG ever had.
Truly one of the best Action/RPGs out there and the best game in the White Wolf's universe to date.Pity the game never made the sales it should have made and is kinda lost in obscurity :(
MetalJesusRocks If you manage to find a CECHA/B/E, don't throw out your PlayStation 2. :b I own a CECHE01 upgraded to 320GB, and the eMotion GS onboard isn't perfect, or 100% reliable with all PlaySation 2 games, especially the less popular ones. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (one of 12 games I still own for the PS2 platform) locks up and crashes regularly, as well as several other less mainstream titles I had before selling them off. It's also worth mentioning that the PlayStation 3 plays games in the resolution they were originally displayed in, with only minor sharpening/upscaling if played with an HDMI cable and actually look WORSE. It's better to play them with the RCA cable in SD.
MetalJesusRocks Just so you know. I managed to get hold of a copy of Heavenly Sword in CEX, Streatham, London. It cost me £3.00 (probably equates to about $4.50 at a guess). I got it on your recommendation in this video and because I like these type of 3d fighting games, God of War series is my favourite. I never knew about this game and I'm glad you introduced it to me. This is truly a hidden gem, an awesome game. Thank you. :)
I have all these games but here are few others.Aquanauts holiday (extremely rare), Afrika US version, El shaddai, Iron sky invasion, Arthur and the revenge of maltazard, Earth defence force, Majin and the forsaken Kingdom, Magus, Under defeat, Arcana heart love max, The cube, Monster jam, The witch and the hundred knight, Crash time 4, cabela, Hyperdimenion neptunia, Ni no kuni, Atelier... And many more
I am so glad that Deadly Premonition is on this list. It's one of my favorite games of all time. I have a lot of games on this list and I'm actually getting Resonance of Fate soon! I love your hidden gem lists and I'm glad to see someone who loves to find rare games as much as I do.
I started playing it years ago, and then I broke my sony PS3 controller and replaced it with a $20 off brand controller, so I couldn't finish the game (because there is apparently no way to absorb the powers of the enemies without the motion control of the sony controllers). So, for a long time, it was sitting on a shelf. I recently picked up a used sony controller, and have been playing again! Can't wait to finish it! The art direction is outstanding, I just wish they had included a control option that didn't require a first party controller to utilize one of the most important gameplay mechanics...
Folklore is definitely unique. I was expecting something different when I originally played it but enjoyed it nonetheless. Heavenly Sword is such a gorgeous game and I also love it. Good list!
Inversion, Risen 2, Risen 3, Binary Domain, Dark Void, Enslaved Odyssey Journey to the West, Untold legends dark kingdom, golden axe, Rage, Two Worlds II, Arcania, Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning, Bound by flame, bionic commando, Remember Me, Syndicate, Timeshift, Bulletstorm, anarchy reigns, Viking Battle of Asgard, Fracture, Vanquish, Child of Eden
I consider PlayStation All-Stars a hidden gem, sadly nobody played it because of the disappointing roster and lack of marketing, but the gameplay was pretty good if you get into it learning combos, confirms and tactics, and it's crazy fun with friends (one of the few PS3 games to be actually fun in 4-player mode in the same system).
More of the huh or hmm could be used as a drinking game. Love this guy and the whole crew though so whatever. Gotta bring back the gamer eats though tbh, I have used most of master pauls recipes and am not displeased at all.
thank you for mentioning deadly premonition!! Seriously, at first I wanted to give up on that game. But as you go further into it, it is just insane. It is one of the best hidden gems I've ever come across. :D
snake2006 The problem with Skyward Sword for me had nothing to do with controls, but the damn color scheme. A great deal of text is unreadable without really squinting because the color they use for text doesn't contrast properly. It's the only Zelda game I never finished, but I'm not too down on myself - they'll probably re-release it in 10 years with a more readable font.
snake2006 Ah, I didn't have the Wii Motion Plus either, but if you pre-ordered the game in the gold box it came bundled with a gold controller with Wii Motion Plus.
You don't actually have to use Motion Control in those sections! There's probably an option somewhere in a menu (can't really remember), but I played through all those sections without utilising the motion control features.
LukeSparrow Oh, cool - I'll put it back in and play it properly - I only had a spare hour last time and probably didn't give it enough of a chance. I'm a bit of a game hoarder and have a tendency to do that.
Get it now. It's super cheap. Probably about 10 bucks or so. It was one of the first games I got for my ps3, but I was kind of expecting it to be something else and was a little disappointed to be honest. But that's my own fault. I was looking for some sort of RPG with horror elements. What I got was... Something else haha. Hard to explain folklore.
The PS3 Has some of my favorite games in it's library. i've always taken pride in my personal ps3 collection. not super large, but every game I own, I really love. Awesome video again MJR, some great mentions. I have 3D Dot Game Heroes and you nailed it on the head. Ultra Gem. Gave me a few more to check into here as well now!
Ilija Petrovic There are plenty of non-shooters. But the only games that are advertised and that have a noteworthy budget these days are shooters. I was flabbergasted when Bravely Default had television advertisement earlier this year, not only was it an RPG, but it was on a handheld console.
Ilija Petrovic There is much less shooters coming out today then there was a few years back when most of the games in this list came back with everyone trying to ride the modern warfare 2 sales hype train.
There are lots of good games, you just have to look. I get what you're saying though. FPS games are shoved down gamers' throats a lot these days, while more worthy games don't get the attention they deserve.
I have a 60 GB model I bought in 2007 and it plays ps1 and ps2 games flawlessly. Thanks for the recommendations. Will definitely check out Deadly Premonition, Folklore, Puppeteer, and 3d Dot game heroes
I bought a fat original PS3 refurbished for $100 on amazon and it came with a 40gb hdd. The first thing I did when it got here was put in a 2.5 inch form factor, 5400 rpm, 250 gb laptop drive I found in the cushions of my couch and it was seriously the easiest HDD install I've ever done. When the PS3 detects that you've installed a new compatible HDD, it will offer to format it in FAT32 which is its required format to operate. Once that process is completed, you're ready to play. Even if you were to buy a refurbed HDD with the correct requirements to replace the wimpy 40gb clunker the amazon refurbed PS3 comes with, that's still only an additional $40 or so I think in the end if you're looking for a backwards compatible PS3 right now is the time to get on that shit, especially with gamestop's online store selling TONS of games for under 5 bucks and even a bunch at 99 cents, I shit you not. This investment is freaking MANDATORY if you have a Vita, and likewise if you have a PS3 then you need to get the Vita to go with it. The cross functionality has changed my life. It's just so freakin beautiful man. Being able to play Guacamelee on my 60" was worth the cost just by itself, not to mention playing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on the Vita. Heaven, if it actually existed, would be something like this. MY ONLY COMPLAINT - it's played every PS1 I've thrown at it (mmmmm R-Types...), but has failed about 30% of the PS2 titles I've tried including my beloved Taito Legends. So there is a judgment call to be made as to whether or not you'll be pulling out the PS2 still all of the time and would instead be better off buying a PS3 slim and just keeping both around and set up. Personally, there is just so much goodness in the fat PS3 and what I can get working that the loss of a few PS2 classics in normal rotation isn't that big of a deal, and if every six weeks or so I have to break out the PS2 to play whatever random PS2 decided not to work that weekend then so be it. One more word: prices for used systems on amazon fluctuate WILDLY from week to week so if it's above what you feel comfortable paying for it, just wait and see if it drops. If it gets somewhere comfortable, and you buy it only to see it drop another 20 or 30 bucks the next week, just go ahead and return the first one your ordered to get the new cheaper one. I know that my $100 purchase wasn't a fluke, but it was a good grab. If you just go any old day you can find PS3s used and refurbed for on average $120-$130. If only they'd made more shooters for it then it would be the most perfect gaming machine ever. Good hunting.
This is something I've been thinking about investing in. To be honest the only reason I bought another PS3(I sold my old 120 Slim a few years ago)is because I collect blu-rays and I desperately wanted to delve into The Last of Us. Which in my opinion, is easily one of, if not the best, game that has come out for the PS3 so far. Now, I know how intensely fierce some people can get with the loyalty to their system; I personally have always used a Playstation, that is what I grew up with along with NES, Supernintendo, and N64 but I think what is worth mentioning for those equal opportunity gamers, is that an Xbox 360 can do the same as the backwards compatible early model PS3s at least for the sixth generation games. That being said, I mean in the sense that the HD can still be upgraded and a vast majority of the titles available on PS2 were also released for Xbox /Xbox 360. But that isn't to say each system has their own unique stand alone titles that could sway a decision. I think what really makes a difference though is if you have a nostalgia for the early fifth gen games because let's face it, if you grew up with a ps1 you wouldn't pass up a lazy sunday with Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, or Lara Croft. At least for the more nostalgic of us out there :p
Tommy TwoTacos I realize it's been two years but I got 2 60gb variants that are fully functional and essentially a back up to a main. Haha happy hunting!! I found My second one on ebay on a pawnshop for 45 bucks. Spend another 50 bucks in repairs and viola! $95 dollar ps3 in 2017
I got 27 minutes into folklore and then gave the disc to my border collie...then I watched the rest of this video and realized I must have watched this before because I own every single one of these games. I love metal Jesus!
I bought the 60gb backwards compatible PS3 off Ebay 6 years ago, I love it! I've never had any problems with it, playing PS1 and PS2 games works great and it gives you the option to smooth the graphics which is nice. My only complaint is how loud the fan gets sometimes but hey it's obviously doing it's job, I've put probably thousands of hours on this PS3 and I bought it used. I switched out the 60gb HD for a 500gb and It is now the Ultimate PS3 in my opinion
Just to make sure everyone knows, I run across people all the time that don't know this. But MJR said it there, the 20 and 60 GB consoles play PS2 games. The 80 GB console plays PS2 games as well, though the compatibility is not as good due to how it emulates them. BUT, here is the kicker that a lot of people don't know, EVERY PS3 plays PS1 games.
Yes, the original 20 and 60 GB models had the actual Emotion Engine/ Graphics Synthesizer built into them. As such, you had the best PS playback possible. The 80 GB model that followed it scrapped the Emotion Engine (Sony was able to emulate it with software), but kept the Graphic Synthesizer chip. To cut costs and to be able to lower the price of the PS3, Sony eventually removed the GS chip as well. The PS3's Nvidia chip was unable to emulate the graphic routines of the GS, so PS2 compatibility was lost as a result.
I used to own another PS3 back around five years ago. It couldn't play PS2 games. So you're saying that the model I had couldn't play PS2 games, but could play PS1 games?
Just watched this video in the last week and added a couple to my wishlist. Found Heavenly Sword at a retro toy store that I had been meaning to go back to since they recently expanded. Didn’t expect to find any on my wishlist so quickly.
Only a error With the DS and PSP versions of the first Disgaea are remakes of the originals the series started in the PS2 and so the principal games are exclusives to the PlayStation ( not counting the PSP, DS, and PS VIta ports of the originals with additional content )
3D Dot Game Heroes, Puppeteer and Eternal Sonata are all amazing and they all look icredible in their own art style, I definitely recommend those three
Metal Jesus looks and speaks like such a nice guy, I mean, if you were to ask for $5 bucks on the street, this man will give you. Anyway, thank you for these "hidden gems" !
I bought the backwards compatable phat 60 gig (I think) PS3 the Christmas it came out. It's been chugging along but about 2 years ago it started having heat issues. Supposedly this isn't a rare issue...quite a few people have it. I took my PS3 apart, cleaned it and blew it out as best as I could but it still heats up way to hot. I no longer play on it because I don't look forward to buying a new one in case it overheats. As to how it plays PS1 and PS2 games...somewhat ok...I can't really think of any downsides.
Brian Smith Really? The heat drop was noticable? I don't really have a "loud" issue just the heat issue... Was it any kind of thermal paste or a special kind and how much did it cost?
Pretty much any kind will do, they put really poor thermal paste on there from what I hear, I bought a pack of two for $20 at Radio Shack, they sell them individually as well so about 10 for it.
Brian Smith How much do you think it would cost to have someone do it for me? I'm really not comfortable with performing these kinds of procedures myself.
I just got my hands on Folklore this week from a Pawn Shop and I have to say that is one of the best games I have played in a LONG time. I haven't even finished the game and it's already one of my favorite gams of all time.
It`s better to play the PS2 games on the original console, the reason is that the PS3 outputs HDMI so the PS2 games does not look good on the system. Play with the original PS2 (slim or fatty) and use a component cable for a 480p output. The games look really good with a component cable for the games that supports it. The other positive thing is that you can easily mod the PS2 to play every region. I know the US and Jap version of the 60GB featured the Emotion engine, on the European version they released a PS2 emulator for the console and removed the hardware. There is also plenty of games that had some problems running on the PS3 hardware. Anyways, play PS2 games on the orginal system for the best experience.
I really think it's a matter of taste. Personally, I much prefer the way the PS2 games look when played on the PS3. (I'm assuming you're not talking about HD Remasters and such). The PS3 has a smoothing filter that does a pretty good job of upscaling and anti-aliasing the pixelation in PS2 games, making them look quite smooth, whereas playing them on the original PS2, the pixelation is quite a bit more evident. Again, if you prefer the way that looks, that's fine, but there's no clear answer to which looks better, as it's really a matter of taste. My original PS3 broke down, so the one I have now isn't backwards compatible, which means I have to play my PS2 games on my PS2, but when I had the classic PS3, I preferred to play my PS2 games on my it 100% of the time.
personally I like to experience the games the way we all experienced it in that era. which is why I only play on an old CRT monitor. If you buy one of the newest crt's from the early 2k's, the picture is so crisp and perfect. especially if that tv has component cables and allows progressive. waaaay better than playing on a HDTV imo
Henry Reddekopp Well, to each his own. But even if I wanted to do what you did, I really don't have enough room at my house or the excess money to buy a whole new monitor just for my PS2 games, which I don't play that many of anyway, since most of my favorites got HD remasters.
Biohazard EXTREME yeah no point if you dont use it much. i was mainly a pc gamer when the ps2/xbox generation was happening, so im just now getting into those consoles. thats mainly why im going for the full original experience. personally i dont have the space either XD, but i cleared the top of my dresser at the end of my bed and plopped down a 27" crt on it :) so my bed is where i do my retro gaming lol. but i have a feeling game developers took advantage of the fact that crt monitors were a tad blurry. like a poor man's antialiasing. to me i just feel im not viewing the content as it was intended with a digital display. but thats just my opinion :)
Biohazard EXTREME Just to make sure, you do have component cables for the PS2 and are checking for a progressive scan option by holding cross and triangle as the game boots up right? Original PS3s clean up PS2 games to a serviceable degree, but an actual PS2 with those things are the best option. If there's still pixelation, then it's more to do with the game itself.
Just got a PS3 and over 50 games, many sports but many I’ve wondered about and haven’t tried yet. Nice to see a couple on your list. Brutal Legend and Heavenly Sword so far...
Any PS3 can play PS1 games, but only the 20, 60, and some 80GB models play PS2 games, which is dumb, because you can pop in a DVD movie and watch it on any PS3, so why not a game printed on a DVD? I feel like it's just to drive the sales of PS2 games in the PlayStation Store... plenty of people have hacked disc-based consoles and given them the ability to play game discs from other consoles, so why couldn't Sony just release a PS2 emulator to download on PS3? I'd even pay for it. The PS1 functionality works well. You can create virtual memory cards and save games to your hard drive and even transfer files to a physical memory card with an available memory card slot to USB adapter. In the options, you can "upscale" or "smooth" the PS1 games out, but I don't notice a huge difference... of course you can also adjust the aspect ratio, but why stretch a 4:3 game out to 16:9? It would look like butts. I use a PS2 for PS1 games more often, but it's convenient for when I want to play a PS1 game on the bigger TV
I wouldn't be surprised if they charged a good 20-30 bucks for the emulator, in which case, I'd just sooner buy another ps2 lol. The last 2 ps2's I bought we 10 dollars and 5 dollars. These things are a dime a dozen. Unfortunately the games I want to play aren't and are also not on the VC. Rule of Rose would have been a nice one to get for cheaper and play out of my ps3.
It is yes, It was a survival horror game produced by atlus. The bulk of it's controvery had to do with sexual acts involving children, but honeslty, if we can make movies with content like this (A Serbian Film, The Woodsman, Happiness etc) we should be able to make games like this as well. But like all early-ish atlus titles it's sky rocketed in value. It ran me over 100 bucks just to get my copy. Would have loved a cheaper alternative.
Tarkhun Fora yeah, just did a quick check - it was banned here in UK after European parliament kicked off about it (and Australia too). Bizarrely, PEGI (the UK equivalent of ESRB) stated publicly that the aligations against the game were false. Some UK review copies do exist tho - I saw one once about 8 years ago. I failed to buy it...it was priced at £2, roughly $4. Oops!
Because Sony eventually started doing PS2 Classics and figured they could get more money out of people doing those instead of giving people native options or emulators on their PS3s for PS2 games.
Once again incredible video especially the time crisis and puppeteer, don't know how a unique beautiful game like that hasn't become big and well known, its like locking a supermodel in the shawdows
Thomas Graversen According to Sony's official site, it's the 20, 60 & 80 gig versions... but that may be in all territories: us.playstation.com/support/compatiblestatus/
Hey Metal Jesus! just wanted to send a big thank you for all the hidden gem videos. The other day, I was on the greyhound and happened to stop in a little town, in the middle of nowhere, that had a little game store right across the street from the greyhound station. While waiting on my bus, I peeked in and saw Folklore for $5! I had just heard of the game in your hidden gems video so i grabbed it. on the bus, i looked on my phone and went to amazon to see that game can go for as much as $75! Wouldn't have had any idea this game even exists and im playing the crap out of it right now. anyway, im just a fan wanting to say thanks. keep those hidden gem videos coming!
About a year ago I sent you a direct message to try to get you on . Not sure if that is what got you to play it or a mixture of many requests. Anyway I'm glad to see it in one of your videos especially that I never recommended a game ever to any youtuber. On top of everything I'm really glad you liked the game, and just maybe as much as I enjoyed it as well. Thanks for listening.
Its really sad that nobody talks about Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. That game is super fun (i've played it since 2008 and still enjoy it), it has a pretty soundtrack, and the game suprisingly still looks good and holds up by today's standarts. In my opinion, Motorstorm Pacific Rift is a true gem
Love all your hidden gem vids man! I learn alot about old games from watching. You should definitely do some more ps3/ps2 hidden gems if possible. Im for sure going to check out Heavenly Sword looks pretty interesting.

Thanks for the great recommendations on both videos! I currently got my hands on Folklore and I love it. I am now trying to get my hands on Singularity, Enslaved and Deadly Premonition. You had me laughing so hard when you put in that sound clip to cover the "F" word. I had to replay it like ten times because it was so hilarious.
3D dot heros looks great :) I have a 60gig PS3 and it works with PS1 and PS2 games really well :) but you are right about the price they are very costly.
Just nitpicking now but the first Disgaea was on PS2 and later on got ported for the DS with less content and lack of voice acting. EITHER WAY! Great video. Got myself a new game to look into thanks to you.
Good call on Heavenly Sword. My PS3 is backward compatible, but all my saved games are on PS2 & PS1 Memory Cards. There are a few key titles that do not work, so I still have my PS2 hooked up for those.
Happy to see that you included Folklore, Heavenly Sword and Puppeteer, those are definitely to pick up for a PS3 owner since they are exclusives ;) I have to do a PS3 Collection video sometimes soon, there are so many good PS3 exclusives to be discovered
Just a little correction: Disgaea didn't start out on the DS, it started out on PS2. Disgaea DS is a port of the PSP version of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (the first Disgaea game), with some technical limitations (no voice acting, etc.)
The CECHA-01 (launch model ps3) uses the native hardware of the ps2, while the CECHE-01 uses partial software emulation along with hardware. The CECHE-01 (slight revision with 80gb hard drive) is notorious for incompatibility with ps2 games. My CECHA-01 has had no issues playing all my ps2 games that i have thrown at it. These old systems, if the yellow light of death has not impacted them, should be serviced immediately too, applying higher quality thermal paste to the processors and a general cleaning. Plenty of guides online for this.
Hi there MetdalJesusRocks, I still have my original 60g PS3 but it's now packed away because the video lazer (as is the case all too often w/ the original PS3) went out and I didn't want to pay Sony $150 to fix in for me, and so I just upgraded to the newer PS3-Slim! Also the biggest reason for me, for not getting it fixed is because as anyone who owns one of them knows all too well of the very, very loud, and I mean (5 stages of higher and higher loud) (fan)! Anyway thanks ever so much for all your (Hidden Gems) vids.!! Lord Bless and keep up the great work big-time!!!
I got I think it was the 80Gig PS3 which could also play PS3 games ... I played Dragons Quest VIII on it (a PS2) game and it looked beautiful. I replaced the 80Gig hard drive with a 500Gig one and I hope I can still play PS2 games on it !!
Resonance of Fate is amazing. Got it off PSN on a sale and was impressed. Visually it's nice. The thing with the combat is that you only really become proficient at it when you start getting to higher levels in gun skills.

Wonder how it held up. They are known to fail
The first gen ps3 fail
I'm just revisiting all your PS3 videos this week because I am really getting back into playing it again. I picked up a Retro Fighters Defender controller and it's absolutely fantastic.
Have fun!
Ummm...The First Disgaea game came out in 2003 for the PS2 it didn't start on the Nintendo DS. Infact before the first game got it's remaster on the Nintendo DS we were already on Disgaea 3 on PS3.
Arch Sirloin Good to know, thanks
MetalJesusRocks
No worries Jesus! Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as a twat! I just didn't know if you were big into the series and if you saw a game entitled just "Disgaea" on the DS it makes sense to assume it started there!
Arch Sirloin Funny how you simply just called him Jesus
Leon0o0
Well, he is the retro gaming Messiah.
It's also made its was to the psp and ps vita
Heavenly Sword was so awesome, I am surprised that the game did not get more praise back in the day
PS3 was having a tough time when it came out so it was really more of a victim of being "on the wrong system" at the time. If it would of came out more at the end of the PS3 lifecycle it would of done much better
Heavenly sword is a great game and the visuals are amazing. Fun game. I got it for cheap at a video store a few years back.
The game got sooo much praise and attention I thought it was absolutely terrible
I now own each and every game of the list. Yeehee!
time crisis was amazing never got boring
le partage de passion n'a pas de prix!
CuCuz to be honest, heavenly sword didn’t age well today. The combat is less engaging than god of war and the voice acting can be ear piercing 90% of the time
Child of Eden and Vanquish were games I didn't hear much about, but I think are hidden gems.
Vanquish is AMAZING i discovered it on a sale like a year ago i think
Ditto on the Vanquish part. One of the best singleplayer shooters I've played.
child of eden is a hidden gem, Vanquish was very well known and critically acclaimed (also a greatest hits title)
Played Vanquish on the 360, didn't really like it tbh, so i'd say it's hit or miss.

PS3 Games Hidden Gems 3 Please! =]
protoluigi you're the first one that has said something good about the playstation all star game because everybody else said it sucked just because it's just lie super smash bros
i guess you're right,i mean everybody has an opinion,i for one have unpopular opinions like people like the legend of zelda games, while i think they're boring,i guess it's all about tastes
i guess people tend to hate things that are either new,or remakes or even copies, that's why people are so against PSASBR because they hate that it's a copy of smash brothers,i have the game and i think it's a decent game,it has good characters, the stages are nice and the super moves are not bad,the only complain i have about the game is that stupid purple head that you fight as a boss, but other than that i think it's a good game
i honestly dk because i only have 19 games
I think Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a hidden gem and worth checking out if you haven't already. The Army of Two series is great to play with a friend, but not sure if those are hidden gems or just less talked about games.
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, more people need to play that game.
I think he mentions it in a 360 hidden gem video if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks!
Metal Jesus, you really have to play Catherine. Believe me, that game is right up your alley. You will love it.
jidar Kinsey keeps telling me that! I need to break down and buy a copy...
yes yes you should
+Vincent Brooks I just got a copy for xmas!
Ollie Burton Very good
Got it for valentines day, great game
I'm so happy you included Deadly Premonition. It's such a wonderful game and deserves more recognition.
like to correct you on something cause you said for Disgaea started on the DS but it originally started on the PS2 in 2003 while the DS version was on 2008 and even the PSP version was released on 2006
Was just gonna say this.
PS3 is one of my favorite consoles of all time, great video Metal Jesus!
This has become one of my favorite episodes in the series. Some truly awesome games in this one FOOS!
Love your Bloodlines tshirt: talk about a hiddem gem also right there!
dimitriid I've been wanting to go back and replay Bloodlines and try out new characters and plot lines, but haven't had the time recently.
And many more
I really like the laid back, chill, and positive tone of your videos. It's relaxing and fun.
I am so glad that Deadly Premonition is on this list. It's one of my favorite games of all time. I have a lot of games on this list and I'm actually getting Resonance of Fate soon! I love your hidden gem lists and I'm glad to see someone who loves to find rare games as much as I do.
I finished Folklore this year and it's amazing! The boss fights are very creative too :) highly recommended
I would recommend too
I started playing it years ago, and then I broke my sony PS3 controller and replaced it with a $20 off brand controller, so I couldn't finish the game (because there is apparently no way to absorb the powers of the enemies without the motion control of the sony controllers). So, for a long time, it was sitting on a shelf.
I recently picked up a used sony controller, and have been playing again! Can't wait to finish it! The art direction is outstanding, I just wish they had included a control option that didn't require a first party controller to utilize one of the most important gameplay mechanics...
Heavenly Sword was the first PS3 game i played when I bought the system in 2006/2007... I remember thinking to myself, damn everything is so shiny.
Folklore is definitely unique. I was expecting something different when I originally played it but enjoyed it nonetheless. Heavenly Sword is such a gorgeous game and I also love it. Good list!
I've been wanting to get my hands on that game, hut it's expensive
More hidden gems for PS3 please!
You could totally make a drinking game from how many times metal jesus says a game is a "love letter" to a certain thing lol.
With how many times he says that, I would not be surprised if Romantic Comedies were his thing
@@PuroresuFan rom coms are 'the shit'! Love me some Bridget Jones Diary type films
Or every time he says huh while talking to someone
I guess hes just a lovey guy, wich isnt very metal, hm nevermind i dont know
More of the huh or hmm could be used as a drinking game.
I love every single one of these titles, especially 3D Dot Game Heroes! Great video Jesus!
That's just an essential hidden gem!
when it comes to cubic visuals, 3D dot game heroes > minecraft imo...
Agreed!
Thanks for reviewing the game Folklore that I requested. That is cool that you listen to your fans and subscribers. Thumbs up!
I tried Heavenly Sword fairly recently and absolutely hated the motion controlled sections. I had to stop playing.
RMGB TV 1 - PS2 Tuesdays, PSP Vault, etc. - Those early PS3 games definitely have motion controls tacked on, which is a bummer...
snake2006 The problem with Skyward Sword for me had nothing to do with controls, but the damn color scheme.
As always great video. I really need to pick up a PS3 and get my collection started. The prices have never been lower right now.
thats what i did a couple of weeks ago, its totally worth it :D
I prefer the PS3 Slim + a PS2 Slim, still takes up less space and they're more reliable.
Deyaced Ylurt ps3 playing ps2 games it upscales ps2 games to 1080p and looks much better. Also HDMI output, no memory cards, etc way better.
Always find a couple of games I passed up when watching these hidden gem videos
I'll have to try Folklore - Well done sir
I'll hunt it down
hope for a 3rd video please, love your stuff, greetings from Tijuana Mexico.
This is the first hidden gems video, where i have/played more of these than not! great video! Love the first two games and Time Crisis 4!
For me i would say Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows Of The Damned
I agree with Shadow of the Damned, but from what I remember, Lollipop Chainsaw had some pretty heavy marketing.
Man games used to be so versatile. Now all you see is SHOOTERS SHOOTERS SHOOTERS + the requirements are huge
You guys act like I'm a hater. I'm talking about the newest games that come out today. Highest percentage are shooters.
Albert Meadows Wow.. you managed to name 6 games. Congratulations.
+Tommy TwoTacos
Also the 60 gig PS3 HD upscales and smoothes PS1 and PS2 disc games. Pretty sweet!
Tommy TwoTacos I realize it's been two years but I got 2 60gb variants that are fully functional and essentially a back up to a main. Haha happy hunting!! I found My second one on ebay on a pawnshop for 45 bucks. Spend another 50 bucks in repairs and viola! $95 dollar ps3 in 2017
I've already owned Resonance of Fate, Puppeteer, and 3D Dot Game Heroes, so I'm glad they got attention in this video
Thanks did not know this about the PS1 games.
Yes, Michael - all PS3's play PS1 games. :)
jcchaconjr That's good to know. Too bad I don't own any PS1 games anymore. I wonder what happened them...
Just watched this video in the last week and added a couple to my wishlist. Found Heavenly Sword at a retro toy store that I had been meaning to go back to since they recently expanded. Didn’t expect to find any on my wishlist so quickly.
I shoud have gotten a ps3 instead of an Xbox 360.......im glad I went back to Playstation. Backwards compatibility would be great on ps4 though...
I still look back on these good ole videos it’s so much fun
i just bought folklore off ebay ! Will play it later :-) & i agree with you about heavenly sword, good game.
Same here i barely ordered it on ebay!
I've always been a Microsoft/xbox gamer, so these hidden gem videos are really helping me as I dip my toes into the world of the PS3 and PSP
Only a error
With the DS and PSP versions of the first Disgaea are remakes of the originals
the series started in the PS2 and so the principal games are exclusives to the PlayStation ( not counting the PSP, DS, and PS VIta ports of the originals with additional content )
Deadly Premonition is goddamn amazing.. its so weird, and then it becomes really serious in a way you dont expect.. it gave me the feels
Good vídeos but you forgot Vanquish
I agree about Folklore. It's phenomenal!
Upscales the PS2 games to HD. Depending on your TV, this makes some games look amazing. Thanks for all your cool videos.
remember though ALL PS3 models play PS1 discs, which few people realise lol ;)
3D Dot Game Heroes, Puppeteer and Eternal Sonata are all amazing and they all look icredible in their own art style, I definitely recommend those three
Metal Jesus looks and speaks like such a nice guy, I mean, if you were to ask for $5 bucks on the street, this man will give you.
Anyway, thank you for these "hidden gems" !
Deadly Premonition is one of the best games ever made. It's so bad it's incredible. I really can't explain it.
I had that problem also, I had an 80gb model. I applied some new thermal paste and it solved the overheating problem.
Brian Smith Ok, thanks. I'll have to look into this..
Brian Smith How much do you think it would cost to have someone do it for me? I'm really not comfortable with performing these kinds of procedures myself.
I really like this fella.
Thanks for the upload.
Hope you're have a great weekend, Jason ...
My 60GB PS3 still going 7 years on!!
My 60GB PS3 still going strong 9 years on!
Bought ny first ps3 in 09...she's still by my side 10 years old.
I picked up Folklore and Resonance of Fate because of this video. And I love them both. Thanks.
Where's Reckoning: Kingdoms of Alamour?
That game's combat is better than Skyrim!
+robert carfang Is in the first part of ps3 hidden gems
robert carfang i disagree, that game is quite forgettable.
He has the Xbox 360 version and covered it in on of those videos
Biohazard EXTREME
Just to make sure, you do have component cables for the PS2 and are checking for a progressive scan option by holding cross and triangle as the game boots up right?
Tarkhun Fora is Rule of Rose the one with the dead children controversy? If so, I'd be amazed if it ever turned up on the VC :-/
Once again incredible video especially the time crisis and puppeteer, don't know how a unique beautiful game like that hasn't become big and well known, its like locking a supermodel in the shawdows
any disgaea game is amazing if you don't value your social life at all. lol
After watching this i immediately hunted down 3D Dot Game Heroes and Heavenly Sword and i couldn't be happier! Thanks Metal Jesus!
Hey man! Only the ps3 60 gb. can play ps2 games :) Great video otherwise!
I thought that too
Ive got a 60gb but ive honestly never tried a ps1/2 game on it even though i own lots of them lol
Peace!!
Thomas Graversen According to Sony's official site, it's the 20, 60 & 80 gig versions... but that may be in all territories: us.playstation.com/support/compatiblestatus/
MetalJesusRocks yeah, in the UK it's only the 60gb, so it's probably different the USA and/or Japan.
I've read it was on the 60gig too. But I could be wrong
***** Indeed, but for some reason we never got the 20gb in the UK - this is probably where the confusion is coming from :-)
3D Dot Game Heroes was my favorite game on the PS3, so many hours put into that game.
How have I never heard of Puppeteer before?! I've never seen that on any list anywhere else. Found it now in Australia for $7!
Hey Metal I really enjoy your videos, they take me to a good place! Keep it up bro
I only played Heavenly sword from this list, and what you said what spot on. Thanks for making this great video
Folklore, 3D Dotgame Heroes and Puppeteer. Three gems I'm glad you included and three gems you can't get on any other console!
3D Dot Game Heroes looks very fun I'll definitely be on the lookout for a copy
do more of this man! ive bought so many of your recomendations so far and having a blast!!!
I found a copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes and I LOVE it!
Thanks for sharing these awesome videos!
I got disgaea 4 as the first PS3 game I ever bought cause my brother had all the PS3 games....never stopped loving. The game
I've got to agree with Heavenly Sword, the voice acting and characters in that game are some of the best I've seen.
He talked about it in the ps3 buyers guide video
Love all your hidden gem vids man! I learn alot about old games from watching. You should definitely do some more ps3/ps2 hidden gems if possible. Im for sure going to check out Heavenly Sword looks pretty interesting.
Inversion, Risen 2, Risen 3, Binary Domain, Dark Void, Enslaved Odyssey Journey to the West, Untold legends dark kingdom, golden axe, Rage, Two Worlds II, Arcania, Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning, Bound by flame, bionic commando, Remember Me, Syndicate, Timeshift, Bulletstorm, anarchy reigns, Viking Battle of Asgard, Fracture, Vanquish, Child of Eden
Love the PS3. Eternal Sonata looks beautiful and I need to buy it.
3D dot heros looks great :)
I have a 60gig PS3 and it works with PS1 and PS2 games really well :) but you are right about the price they are very costly.
Happy to see that you included Folklore, Heavenly Sword and Puppeteer, those are definitely to pick up for a PS3 owner since they are exclusives ;)
I have to do a PS3 Collection video sometimes soon, there are so many good PS3 exclusives to be discovered
I got 3D Dot Game Heroes pretty much 3 days after I got my PS3. It helped make me fall in love with the console.
Love watching your videos every week MJR. Keep up the great work!
Hi there MetdalJesusRocks,
I still have my original 60g PS3 but it's now packed away because the video lazer (as is the case all too often w/ the original PS3) went out and I didn't want to pay Sony $150 to fix in for me, and so I just upgraded to the newer PS3-Slim!
Thank you for reviewing eternal sonata. I would have never known ps3 version has 2 extra missions compared to the 360 version. Great video.
Resonance of Fate is amazing. Got it off PSN on a sale and was impressed. Visually it's nice. The thing with the combat is that you only really become proficient at it when you start getting to higher levels in gun skills.
Wrecked: Revenge Revisited is awesome as it is a spiritual sequel to the ps2 Hit Game Mashed (Drive to Survive in North America)
That's amazing you choose Folklore. That was the very first game I played on the system when I bought it.
