    Look.
I tried. Metal Gear Survive is a hefty game, and it demands time. One more week, check this out in the mean time.
IMPORTANT PSA - I will NOT message you about you winning anything on RUclips! Unless there's a verified checkmark next to the name and it says my full youtube channel name, IT IS NOT ME. There's been a lot of fishing bots posing as me and other content creators, so stay frosty.
    Thanks for watching!

It's funny because the only reason why I know of/played Folklore is because my mom found it on a whim back during the early PS3 days for $5. She told me the cover caught her eye and we played through the whole game together. We fell in love with it and I'm really sad this game will probably never get a port. ;-; If you ever want to play it though, I recommend you find a copy! It's definitely worth it. Shoot, there's even DLC for the game that'll be gone once the PS3 store shuts down.

Oh man, my ex was OBSESSED with Tokyo Jungle. So many hours spent passively watching him kinda sucking at it lol. On a more serious note, I read an article recently talking about how copyright laws (and games companies being greedy) are preventing institutions from preserving and studying games as a part of our cultural history. Games are art and they are an important part of the times we live in.. so it sucks to hear that this is such an issue. Anyway, my point is - thank you for making videos like this that highlight lesser known stuff🙏

This video unlocked a buried memory of my best friend in high school playing Tokyo Jungle after school one afternoon, I mostly remember being very confused by the premise and us yelling about how violent the tiny doggo on screen was. Folklore truly is a unique game that deserved way more. Sadly “unique” doesn’t sell, what sells is doing/copying what everyone else is doing, so the consumer gets something familiar they recognize. Not something that challenges them.

I'm kinda happy that someone remembers that Folklore exists. It's in a really weird place in Europe at least where it's super rare, but nobody knows about it at all so its price varies extremely wildly and I'm quite happy that I managed to find one for 10€ back in the day when it's quite often being sold for over 50€.

The multiplayer was absolutely the highlight of the game and ate up 3k+ hours of my teenage life and I don't regret a single second of it. The mechanics, the adaptive soundtrack, the maps, the weapons, the flying that became 100x better and more like Warhawk if you swapped off of default controls, the buildings that had to come down from orbit instead of being instant leaning toward more strategy and foresight compared to Fortnite...everything just felt blissful when it all came together in a 25 minute, 16v16 match

Tokyo Jungle's Survival mode was kind of a rogue-lite experience, I bet it would work in today's market.
Another Game Republic game that I loved is Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, it's not a PS3 exclusive so maybe it doesn't sit in the same position as Folklore, but I feel like it's just as forgotten. It had this Metroid style level progression where you had to unlock powers for your beast friend to get to new areas, lots of projectile puzzles in the form of catapulting yourself in different positions, and a story about an underdog outsider befriending a magical monster and saving a doomed kingdom. About the only bad thing was the hilariously bad voice acting for the various animal NPCs you meet.

@@chdreturns I never bought it on PS3 specifically because I hated the gyro controls when I tried it. It's still worth playing with traditional controls (& preferrable for some of us). That said, it does seem to support gyro controls on PC with the Sixaxis. Apparently you have to turn off Playstation controller configuration in Steam or something to get it to cooperate.

Lair was one of the first games I ever played on the PS3, and it literally made me feel sick. The motion controls gave me some kind of motion sickness. It didn't help that I have had a really bad equilibrium ever since I had ear surgery when I was 12. As you can imagine, it was also one of the first PS3 games I ever traded in to Gamestop for store credit. :P

I loved Folklore. It was one of my favorite games on the PS3 that wasn't Borderlands 2 or Ratchet and Clank.
Like you said tge atmosohere was really good. I remember the story being interesting and the combat was really fun. It's the only game that used the Six-axis that I only didn't hate but was actually used really well (Sort of lije what Ape Escape did for the Dual Analog).
I always called it a mix of God of War and Pokemon lol
I wish we got a remaster or a sequel or something. But like so many others (looking at you Eternal Darkness) I doubt it will ever happen. But I always look back on it fondly and am so happy you gave it a mention here in this video.

I played a bunch of these. Of those, Folklore was my favourite (I actually have eye of judgement with deck and everything. It is currently packed away and I cannot recall in which box, but I have it all). Folklore was fantastic and needs some love. Having said that, didn't like playing as the werewolf guy. Not big on werewolves in the first place, and I vastly preferred feeling like I was summoning these fae to help over his... channelling? Regardless, fun times, did enjoy quite a bit. Reminded me of Lost Kingdoms, actually.

Hi! I played Killzone 3 online with the move controller, being left handed though I had to also get the PS3 nunchuk thing or the game wouldn't be playable due to only being able to hold the wrong side of the DS3.
Game was fun! I definitely had the advantage over regular pad users, sniping was really fun, keeping aim at angles on doors/corners was way easier, characters moved so slowly that in close quarters you could just nail every headshot!
Real good addition imo - but also don't miss it since moving to PC with mouse and keyboard near the end of the PS3s lifecycle.

MAN!! This felt oddly nostalgic. I've played most of the games in this video, and I still own 2 of them! I haven't hooked up my PS3 in nearly a decade, but I haven't put it completely away either. I loved my time with it, and until I got into PC gaming, was my largest game collection.
You are 100% right on Folklore. I loved that game, but like a dummy I traded it away AGES ago. The only issue I had with the game is it could get a little grindy at times, and on several occasions my sixaxis control would desync from the game, and I couldn't use the motions to capture the mons, unless I turned the controller off and on. Never had those issues when I switched over to the Dual Shock 3, but yeah that first round of controllers for the ps3 was rough.

Folklore was amazing. It came out before trophies were a thing and they didn't get added in with a patch like a few early titles, but if it had them, I would have platinum'd it. Every Folk, all maxed, including the ones you can only get through the online mode by grinding a bunch of points, which I had to do little by little at a friend's house because I didn't have broadband at home until 2012. When I got the PS3 it had been out a few years and I got it pre-owned in a bundle with two games, and one of those games was Folklore. It was also the first game that I bought DLC for, and first game where I bought all the DLC. My first exposure to it was a Toys R Us PS3 demo kiosk. Remember those? And I'm truly grateful for it. Sometimes, I'll turn on the PS3 with the disc in but not start the game just to listen to the music that plays when you highlight the game on the XMB. Magnificent.

Man, it's like you delved into my library! Love the focus on motorstorm apocalypse, I feel like that one goes underrated in comparison to pacific rift. Great shout to Folklore, and especially Ranko Tsukigime. I didn't know Zill'Oll was part of a series, I thought it was an original that felt like an old game with modern graphics. Their Bladestorm game is pretty cool, and fairly under the radar too. A game that I'd say has a somewhat similar level of quality, in that, it's alright and kinda cool, is Natural Doctrine. It's a unique take on strategy RPG, using the 3D environment the battles take place in quite heavily. It's got some really unserious/funny writing, kinda like 3D dot game heroes. It's that kind of game. It's also on Vita and PS4 buuuuut it feels right on PS3.
Hidden games eh? Dark Mist is certainly one, it's from Japan Studio and pretty much an action dungeon crawler with a nice cute/dark Norse aesthetic. I feel like a lot of the hidden gems are well known enough now, but this one I only found out bout when scouring through Japan Studio's gameography (is that a word? It is now) upon hearing the news of Sony shuttering them. Still sad over that and evolution's closure.

Edit: i think you did get to the most unknown and interesting ones right out of he bat, congrats, but i think Puppeteer and Rain should've gotten a bigger spotlight as i think those two games are pretty good, and have incredibly interesting concepts and gameplay. There is this one ps3 exclusive fighting game that is only available physically called Aquapazza that probably no one knows about, it's pretty good. If you manage to get a copy, then i think it could be a fun time with friends, it also has supers that are fully animated by hand and they look sick and is what initially made me play it.
