Sometimes popularity fades. Series on the Super Nintendo or Genesis did NOT make it to the PS5, Xbox or Switch and that's a huge shame. I'm sure we've all got ourselves a franchise or two that we hold near and dear, but they don't always keep up with the trends. You can't tell me F-Zero doesn't deserve a come-back. YA CAN'T.

What's an abandoned video game franchise you'd like to see make a come back? Lemme know!
WHAT UP! Three Videos in May? You'd best believe it. I think I like... a LOT of y'all are simply getting ready for the onslaught of dope games coming out in June, myself included, so I wanted to put out as much content as possible before then. There's like 4 different things I'm gonna lose all my life and time to, and hopefully we can connect on the other side. I'll see y'all next week with another video though.

I always think of Sly Cooper when I think of abandoned game series. Not only was the last game 10 years ago, it was also a controversial entry, and to top it of it ended on a cliffhanger. To add insult to injury the cliffhanger was suppose to resolved in DLC, that got canceled due to poor sales. But around that time a movie got announced, which also got canceled, but revived as tv show. But the show was suppose to come out in 2019 and we haven't heard anything since, not even an official cancelation.

What's sad is Thieves in Time was actually a pretty solid game. You could feel the studio actually understood Sly Cooper, unlike what happened with Jak and Daxter with The Lost Frontier, where the devs seemed to just want to attach Jak to their IP.

I miss Ecco the Dolphin. Realistically the games are all relatively middling, the Genesis games in particular being incredibly difficult and having some bad ideas like "physics" puzzles involving pushing things around underwater, but thematically they're such interesting ideas, sci-fi games where you play a dolphin? Absolutely wild. And the soundtracks, complete killer all the way through.

Pretty surprised you didn't mention Sly Cooper, not only was it a part of the trinity of PS2 classics alongside Jak and Ratchet, but arguably had the worst fate of all of them. Not only was the 4th and last game released back in 2013 and ended on a cliffhanger, but the DLC that was supposed to solve that ending was cancelled, the Sly movie was silently cancelled because of the Ratchet and Clank movie bombing, the Sly tv show ended up in development hell, there's no developer attached to a 5th game since Sucker Punch is busy with Ghost of Tsushima while Sanzaru was acquired by Meta so they can't work on it even thought they wanted to, and there's no sign of any plans with the franchise besides the cloud re-releases of the 4 games on PS5 so the franchise is kind of dead at this point, I will never give up hope on seeing my boy come back 😔

SNESDrunk is also great for quick insightful reviews, does non SNES reviews too.
Pandemonium Reviews sticks to reviewing every Saturn game but his videos are like documentaries and cover the development of the original games if they were a port to the system. He seriously puts in so much work and only has like 4 or 5k subscribers. His video on the awful Corpse Killer game was so informative compared to the likes of AVGN. You would think someone like James would be interested in the development of Corpse Killer as it was FMV and sho5 like a B movie but James is well... He doesn't really care about video games.
Sega Lord X is also good for *mostly* SEGA discussion. Though he talks about other consoles and games. It's always cool to see the weird SEGA fanboys flip their shit when he releases a video talking about how much he loves the NES or something. "You're SegaLordX not NintendoLordX. I hate Nintendo REEEE !"
Minimme is also a good reviewer who chooses the weirdest obscure games to talk about.
RebelTaxi is also good when he covers video games.

Especially the latest entry, Trauma Team, which branched out from surgery to include more puzzle-styled precision in orthopedics, priority-based first response, and even visual novel segments in forensics and diagnostics. I loved the way Trauma Team used all these different disciplines to address different parts of the story, and how they all worked together. Even endoscopy managed to be interesting towards the end. It would be so cool to see them get the gang back together using the motion controls on the Switch.

Despite how much I enjoy it, though, I feel like Viva Piñata really couldn't come back (at least in the way pocket paradise was set up) because there wouldn't be much interest. I live in hope that one day we'll get a new Gravity Rush game, but I doubt we ever will. It was really interesting concept, but I don't think it sold terribly well.
It was an 'anime-superhero' game where you control a female protagonist called Kat, and she didn't necessarily fly, more like she manipulated gravity to 'fall' in whatever direction you chose. She could also use that gravity manipulation to turn walls or ceilings into 'the floor', so the cities in the game were these super 3-dimensional places that could be explored in multiple ways. The world they created was beautiful and intriguing, and the main character was utterly adorable. The music also lives rent-free in my head to this day. It was fantastic!
The first game was a PSP exclusive, that got a remastered version for the PS4, and later on got a sequel that added new powers and abilities, new cities, new gameplay systems and greatly expanded the story.
Sadly though, it ended on a cliffhanger that left a lot of questions un-answered, and it doesn't look like we'll ever get a third game. I don't think the second game sold terribly well, and the studio behind it shut down soon after the game came out.
The second game also had some minor online features like leader-boards and treasure hunts that no longer work because the servers were shut down about a year after launch. They actually postponed the server shutdown due to fan backlash and petitions, but it only bought about an extra 6 months of life. It's a sad end for an amazingly creative series.
I also wish we could get another Saboteur game. It was like a cross between Assassins Creed and GTA, set in World War 2, Nazi-occupied Paris. Bloody great game, but again, the studio folded soon after release, and I think the IP got absorbed into EA, who aren't doing anything with it. Such a shame.

Would really love to see them give the reigns to a partner studio to go crazy with a new entry! The insanity effects meant to mess with the actual player were really unique, and could be used in some amazing ways today. It'd probably blow up on streaming platforms too if they were creative enough with all the effects & get people interested.
Other than that, Perfect Dark is still the series I want back the most. N64 PD had the best multiplayer options, and playing Halo/PD Zero never felt like they offered anything comparable. I never understood why the other kids at school didn't love it as much as I did. And going crazy in that game with a Game Shark is one of my most nostalgic memories, my first real experience totally breaking a game.
Sadly, we might be adding Beyond Good and Evil to this list. Who knows if the sequel will ever come out, and is it really gonna be a game for us fans of the original? Shinobi and Nightshade on the PS2 are still two of my favourite games of all time.
Yeah, compared to other character action games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden they look dull, but while they're not a visual spectacle the gameplay was so unique and sweet that I can't belive no one has tryed to replicate it.
For those that never played the Shinobi and Nightshade games, each fight acts like an arena, you progress through the level until you find a mob of enemies and your path becomes blocked by a barrier, so you have to kill the enemies to progress. While other character action games does the same thing, the gimmick here is that each enemy you kill strengthens your attacks, so much that for normal enemies your attacks become a single hit kill, and if you finish all the enemies in a straight combo you get a cool animation like on those old samurai movies that, while the protagonist strikes a pose, all the enemies explode on geisers of blood. You can even finish bosses that way, killing the mobs before focusing on them and finishing the fight on a single combo.
I really wish this kind of game returned in a new Shinobi or even a complete new IP that just wish to recreate this unique style.

Loved the video Austin watched it with my mother earlier. But i needed to clarify something on something you mentioned about Command And Conquer. One the remastered collection of CC1 and Red Alert 1 do count if you know the history of them. There is some good CC documentary's about the series including the Remasters on youtube. But also CC Remasters where very succesful it sold very well which EA did at some point mentioned in a interview that they are very open to do another remaster but also they are thinking of actually doing a new CC game. So CC is is like in Limbo not abandoded at this point.

I'd love to see Bulletstorm and Vanquish sequels, they were both super fun but just disappeared as fast as they came out. I'd also love to see a true successor to Brink; Dirty Bomb was technically this, but also shut down.

Lufia was fantastic. If I'm not mistaken, it was one of the first RPGs that when you finished killing a monster, it didn't default over to the next monster on the list. Meaning you really had to understand the damage of your attacks / spells or you'll be getting misses since you're attacking nothing.

There's a classic title that 505 Games released called Naughty Bear. It was fun. We haven't seen ports or remakes in at least 10 years. I also lost my physical copy in my house, so I cannot even play it. (Hell, it is not even on backwards compatibility on Xbox One!)

I think my big impossible wants at this point are legacy of kain and sly cooper.
I know Eidos ip's have been shuffled about and the current holders have talked about revitalizing Kain, but picking up a continuing saga 17+ years later is a big ask for an audience, writer, and studio
Sly cooper, meanwhile, is just not mature games for mature gamers enough for suckerpunch these days I think.

Particularly something as deep as Legacy of Kain, I can't imagine how lost people would be if they jumped in a sequel to Defiance. But I'll still hold on to this bittersweet illusion.

Wow, lots of people are asking for Sly Cooper here on the comments, if there's so much demand, than Sony is definetly really dumb for not wanting to make a new Sly Cooper game.

OMG, you just unlocked some good but frustrating memories with Crimson Skies. While I never played the Xbox sequel, I played the first one on PC a lot when I was a kid. I never beat it, tho, since it was soul crushingly hard for me at that time...
... maybe it's time to change that.

When it comes to RTS games, my favorites were always Tzar and Empire Earth. I bet most people haven't even heard of at least one of the two. Also, I'm really sad that Shenmue 3 didn't do very well because I've always been very invested in the storyline, and I would love to see it brought to its natural conclusion. We need a Shenmue movie or something.

Shenmue 1 & 2 was one of my greatest experiences in gaming. And I’ve been gaming since the Atari 2600 days.
Shenmue 3 didn’t cut it for me. It was bigger but it wasn’t better. Exploration just wasn’t near as fun and neither was anything else.

    • @loneronin6813
      @loneronin6813 Год назад

@@AngryCalvin I agree that 3 wasn't as good by a pretty long stretch, but the story is one I still want to see a conclusion to. It's just a shame that the 3rd game's lower quality was pretty much served as the series' tombstone.
