Dragon Ball Z, Super, GT, it doesn't matter. Akira Toriyama's seminal classic Shonen Anime and Manga is one of the most legendary pieces of fiction on the planet and it's time to dive into the good games. No more silly bad things, I want good meaty experiences that are fun, over-the-top and take me back to the 90s. From the NES to the PlayStation 2, Gamecube, PS4, PS5 and even Nintendo Switch, there's been DBZ video games for generations!

What's your favorite Dragon Ball video game? Of all of these I gotta say I love some of the RPGs but there's always room for Budokai Tenkaichi 3 in my heart.
Yess I most liked to play dbzbt3 since I was 4 years old ❤❤❤❤
Honestly, it's one of the ones you skipped. DBZ: Legend of the Super Saiyan for the Super Famicom is pretty fun once you learn the mechanics. The game having the zenkai boost just built in for the Saiyan characters and being able to break the story by having characters survive to make a what-if continuation of the story was really cool. Only real problem I remember is the encounter rate and the potential to get lost in areas.
@@WolvesNest really!! This type of game exist? Huh I don't know about it 😕
I can tell you didn’t play bt2 story mode cause it’s budokai 3 story but better
@@Atum_Kami oh thanks for info❤️
The crazy thing about xenoverse 2 is that not only is it still getting updates but it includes the entire first game’s campaign too lmao
Bro, seriously? 😂 I need to get around to Xenoverse 2 soon. It's sitting in my Steam library waiting to be played.
It’s crazy how it outlived both FighterZ and Kakarot despite releasing way earlier. Bamco just refuses to ever stop milking that game lmao
I did not realize it had the 1st xenoverse campaign as well. Played the 1st one and thought it was pretty good.
@@damon7845it's dlc
@@damon7845 It's dlc, but it's a super cheap one so it's fine, you play the XenoVerse 1 story with the XenoVerse 2 mechanics and graphics
I like that Austin forgot that Broly appears in Attack of the Saiyans, so a super saiyan appears in the game, the legendary one.
He obviously meant we didn’t see one of the characters transform into one. Kinda weird to act so superior over a literal technicality.
@@exocolt15 you're reading way too much on this comment
@@exocolt15
He specifically says "Has a *single* super Saiyan in it. You're kinda the one that's pulling the acting superior card, especially when the person wasn't even saying it in a condescending way.
Extreme Butoden was so underrated. At some point after the One Piece fighter came out, they actually out out an update that allowed you to play online against one another. So if you were playing Extreme Butoden online, you could also play against people playing One Piece online.
I found out about that from the Guile Win Quote video not too long ago. What a super cool thing, you'd think it'd be way more discussed than it is. High level matches in those games are completely insane to watch, the senor pink assist is some of the most deranged horseshit I've seen in any fighter ever.
Supersonic Warriors 2 Is THE BEST,If You Use Boss Goku With The AR CODE!
you forgot about Infinite World, which was the ps2 "response" to Burst Limit. It's like budokai 3 on steroids. It was perfect because it had minigames that felt like the ones in kakarot
Ikr? I felt like infinite world is the final evolution of the budokai series. It had everything and more. Game was fun as shit
Game was fun af...also it was stupid hard 😭
A lot of people missed out on that one when it released unfortunately me included but it is cool
Underrated entry but maybe the difficulty was the barrier to entry.
You mean budokai 4
I just gotta say, Budokai 3's combo system is actually really deep! You can cancel every charged move in the game, and every character has a fascinating moveset so you can actually keep hitting those combos when cancelling. It really does become a whole different game once you adapt to this playstyle, one of the best DBZ fighting games for sure
Understandably most people that aren't serious into the games would not know the deeper aspects of the Budokai series. When people talk about the Budokai series and are not well versed in the system, it disappoints me. The Combo system is one of them. The system had been in place from the very beginning. It only got better with each installment. Just an example, but you could do something like this with Goku in Budokai 3:
- = cancel
* = stun
~ = cancel and side step
^ = Juggle
p k e = non charge
P K E = charge
>pkK~ >k* kkkK-
both of your comments heal my soul, I hate when casual players talk about a system they know next to nothing about
Yeah, the movelist just tells you what combos go into super moves, not your actual punches and kicks. Blew my mind as a kid when I discovered Kid Goku uses the Power Pole in some of his combos, and that you can get Vegito to do his kick combo with his arms folded.
The game never gave you any real incentive to get better, so a lot of the more advanced mechanics largely remained obscure over the years, but the community is still devoted and there's still new tech being discovered.
@sketchywest1176 His P+K is uses the power pole strange you never knew
Rest in piece Akira that you for making my childhood.
For making everyone's childhood
❤❤❤
peace

Correction: Attack of the Saiyans does have a Super Saiyan in it. Broly, for some reason, is the game's hilariously OP secret boss.
We need another dragon ball turn rpg so bad either in the fusions or attack of the saiyan style
Who do you fight him with? 'Cuz him being OP already makes sense with Saiyan Saga Goku and co. in mind
@@fabiosonhandogrande1697you have to fight him WITHOUT Goku (who is crazy OP because kaioken is nuts in this game)
@@robertwyatt3912 Holy fuck
I remember I grinded leveling up a bunch of characters so that I could beat broly, then I breezed through the final act of the game because I was so overleveled 😂
@16:45 if you have the Japanese versions of each game you CAN actually put them together and put DBZ characters against One Piece characters.
Raging blast was my first DB game. Love it to death. I got called out at the end of the fighting game segment. Well played.
To me the best fighting games are the Supersonic Warriors ones, the speed, action, sound effects and seamless change from ground to flying combat was the closest I have ever felt of playing an actual DBZ fight as a child
The raging blast games were fun, you could deflect big ki blast attacks by holding block and pressing left or right as it hits you
Plus it featured ssj3 vegeta and broly and the last time tarble was in a non gacha game before he was quietly replaced by cabba
No one ever talks about Supersonic Warriors on the GBA. I don't know if it's just because it's all I had, but I played that game a ton and it's weird I never hear about it.
I loved supersonic warriors it was sick, can’t say the same about the second game though
@@thatd00dovertherenever played the first, how is the 2nd worse?
I remember trading another kid Sonic Advance 2 for Supersonic Warriors while we were riding the school bus home. Man, I locked in a lot of hours on that game on the ride to and from school. Just to get home and play the Tenkaichi games.
I feel it's criminaly under-minded and underrated
@@peedfardednot a bad trade.
I remember base Piccolo being super OP, not sure if it was in 1 or 2 though.
Gohan is my favorite character so of course I love The Great Saiyaman!
16:45 Austin. They did. You can play these games literally together to experience an Arc Sys One Piece vs Dragon Ball
So happy to see Legendary Super Warriors.
I grew up with that game on the Gameboy Color man
34:14 "It doesn't even have a single Super Saiyan in it"
Broly is the game's superboss.
Hyperdimension Neptunia mentioned 🎉
I know right. He's the first RUclipsr I personally watch, that has ever mentioned Neptunia.
How can a game series that does that well, also be so obscure?
@@danvzare6201 does it do well? I hear the games nowadays are pretty mediocre but i love them anyways, also I freaked out when he said that.
Ironically I just watched your Legacy of Goku and Bad DBZ games videos yesterday and wasn't expecting this. Thank you again for honoring the works inspired by the great Akira Toriyama.
We miss you akria thank you for making our childhood worth wild
Ahhh i remember seeing some random news article about Fusions, saw some screenshots and was sold on it straight away, like combine every single warrior into somebody new?! YES PLEASE!
So found a shop that took pre-orders and by god was it good, all the hidden stuff and extra things you could get through Wifi and everything it was a blast
Any day with new Austin Eruption content is a pretty good day, in my opinion.
Sure, I'm still severely depressed... but now I'm depressed AND have entertaining content to watch. So, it could be worse!
Please feel better soon!
@@austineruption ...that's a thing people can do?... I'll have to look into it...
Thanks for all the consistently high quality content. It definitely helps!
Solid list! I'd add Shin Budokai 2, Infinite World and Super Sonic Warriors 2.
DB Legends, Dokkan Battle are decent mobile games and Evolution for the PSP is surprisingly not complete garbage lmao. Tenkaichi Tag Team is fun too
Dokkan is peak fym
Evolution is budokai
shoutouts to xenoverse 2 for not allowing you to play online on the steam deck because of anti-cheat
thank you namco, very cool, you can update that ANY DAY NOW
Advanced adventure for the GBA isn't a "Z" game but still one of my favorites that i can just quickly finish in a couple hours when i got time
It's a real gem that one. I fell in love within the first 3 minutes of gameplay. Definitely recommend it if you haven't tried it.
Nobody asked

"And a little Baby Goku wiggling a stick..."
Nonono, Austin, it's either the Power Pole, the Nyoibo, or the "MAGIC STIIIIIICK!!!"
KAIOKENNNNNN.
So glad you mentioned Fusions, it's such a fun game. I loved collecting all the characters completing my "Pokedex", and getting to fuse your OC with any DB character was dope
It's always nice to see Fusions highlighted. It's been one of my go-to games to play whenever I'm just. Feeling down and don't know /what/ to play. I'd start over, make a new oc (or just make one of the few characters not in the main game) and play through the whole story and the ridiculously good post-game. Just recently I did a challenge run where I don't use any of the fusions. Y'know, the game's main mechanic.
The game has so much loving detail put into it's weird, wonderful pokemon-like fun that it truly never gets old for me.
Great video!!!
Man, I played every DBZ game on the Gameboys/DS', and loved all of them. Especially "Legendary Super Warriors", sooooooooooo much fun!!!
12:00 Thanks for talking about the games and yeah Burst Limit was truly something to behold at the time even though it had ended on a cliffhanger.
Super Dragon Ball Z, which is another game I never see many talk about or bring up was probably the very first Burst Limit game so to speak on the PS2 console which is crazy but yeah that game was something else too.
Burst Limit is amazing. Most people don't talk about it because DBZ Games without the Buu Saga is criminal, especially after Tenkaichi 3 did regular Dragon Ball and GT, but Burst Limit's style is the best in the series. Probably even better than FighterZ since it actually tries to be unique and more flavorful rather than trying to just being a cutout of the Manga art, which, while impressive, isn't visually striking or unique.
7:48 Buu being a Fortnite kid fits too well lol
I'll always remember Revenge of King Piccolo for that awesome intro song
Fun fact with Extreme Butoden and that One Piece game from ArcSys, both of the games got an update in Japan that allowed you to battle with each other, aka you can play as the One Piece characters in the One Piece game and battle DBZ characters online in a weird but unique cross-game cross-play. Pretty sure it worked locally, too.
DBZ Fusions really suprised me when I played it a few years ago. Bouncing around enemies on the battlefield is really fun. For some reason it takes its time to actually get to the titular mechanic of the game though.
I haven't dived? dove? divven? into Kakarot's DLC yet, but the base game is also one of my favorites. Cyber Connect really knows their stuff.
Also worth checking out as a fighting game is Supersonic Warriors 2 for DS.
Wtf, bro that was such a slick transition to the ad. Kudos 👏
Finally, some love for Burst Limit! I grew up with it and Ultimate Tenkaichi (which I never got, rip) but I spent hours upon hours on Burst Limit just making up my own battles between different characters. I still have my childhood copy to this day and still pick it up from time to time, I'm happy to see it finally get the love it deserves!
I know it hasn’t aged well, but the first Budokai game holds a special place in many of our hearts in pretty sure
Well I'm definitely gonna be marathoning a good chunk of these dbz games. Since my birthday is coming up I guess I'll try to get dragon ball z kakarot along with Unicorn Overlord and since I do have a 3Ds, I'll dive into the other games I missed out on namely the DS and GBA titles. Though another series that I can recommend people try out and a friend brought this back up to my attention is the dragon ball Z super sonic warriors games the first one on the Game Boy advance and the second 1 on the DS. Those are really good and a lot of fun in terms of handheld fighting games with the 2nd game being a personal favorite of mine since I started with that 1 1st. Overall a very good solid video detailing all of these hidden games. Rest in peace Akira Toriyama you made our childhoods fun!
Found your channel through that Kakarot 100% DLC video. You should definitely revisit it at a later point, really liked that video.
Great episode as usual, Austin, love and miss Toriyama RIP, and my personal favorite DBZ game is PS2 Super DBZ, like FightersZ Grandad, and as far as shirt color, neon green dude, sorry, and thanks for your hard work and fun
I have great memories in the early 2000s of playing Super Saiya Densetsu (One of the card battling RPGs you mentioned) on ZSNES without it being translated and trying to guess or use knowledge of the series to figure out what to do. And yes, Hyper Dimension was great too.
Real glad you brought up Attack of the Saiyans in the end, i almost thought you'd missed it
And yeah a game like that for every arc wouldve been great, almost all of them do have these big stretches of time skipped that could be filled up with so much potential
The two years before the android arrival, extended Saiyaman shenanigans, the works
Also wish Kakarot wouldve expanded on those, it often felt like the devs meant to but bit off more than they could chew with dev time
Makes the many dlc episode support kinda ironic lol
YES! FINALLY!
Love for Dragon Ball Fusions.
love seeing Attack of the Saiyans get some love, you're a true one Austin
I'm pretty sure in Japan there was functionality to combine Extreme Butoden with the One Piece 3DS game and have people play multiplayer against one another using both versions of the game. Someone else on RUclips had a whole video about it. Also Dragon Ball FighterZ was probably the most successful main stream Anime Fighter that was FGC embraced until the lack of rollback led to issues and when Rollback was finally officially added this past month, it still had bugs and issues that pissed people off and essentially left the game dead. The devs said they'll have an update on a fix later in April but they also sai
Also also I think Broly is a secret boss in Attack of the Saiyans. I'm 70% sure so there is a Super Saiyan in there.
My favorite dragonball game is definitely raging blast 2. I know I'm probably alone but I loved all the what if stories. That game had so many! Including one where Vageta actually cared about nappa, so when he was killed, it caused Vageta to go super saiyan. If you've never played it, just give it a shot
Legendary super warriors is one of my favorite Gameboy games. You had SO many playable characters and all annoyances that game brings and there are several. The sheer roster they fit on the Gameboy was impressive.
My first dragon ball game was "super sonic warriors" on the ds. It was kinda ahead of its time. It reminds me a bit of fighterZ. You can build a team, swap out members, do team ultimates, Z assist. A cool game. Underrated af
Fave DB Games:
Advanced Adventure
Legacy of Goku 2 + Buu's Fury
Hyper Dragon Ball Z (greatest MUGEN game of all time)
Shoutouts to Super Dragon Ball Z which I haven't played that much of but I love watching good players play it, and DB Origins which I didn't finish because my DS shit itself but I did really enjoy most of what I played, even if it felt a little bit unnecessarily padded. Pre-Z Dragon Ball is by far my favorite part of the series and seeing it retold in such a lovingly detailed way was very pleasant and I'm a diehard Phantom Hourglass defender so the gameplay was right up my alley as well.
I have yet to watch Dragon Ball but with every one of your uploads I'm drawn closer to watching it. One day, I'll have the courage to jump in. You're killing it with the beard btw!
You didn't mention them but you should check out the Supersonic Warriors games which were actually Arc System Works' first time with the IP. It was pretty solid in my
I've watched several videos about this exact subject and yet I still discover a whole lot of new games. 😆
Legendary Super Warriors is one of my favorite games of all time. I have so many fun memories of that
FunFact - Azumanga Donjyara Daioh had a phyiscal release; like, not just the PS1 disc, but an actual game board and character themed tiles.
Attack of the Saiyens did have a super Saiyen. If you collect the dragon balls and ask for a challenge, you fight Broly. You get his necklace which almost max out your stats.
This video is just perfect, the games, the history, the knowledge, the japanese exclusives, the god damn perfect choices, glorious
i actually REALLY liked supersonic warriors on the gameboy i spent so much time unlocking every character, its also how I learned that majin buu was a thing and could brag to my schoolyard friends to. Unlocking king picollo was frustrating btw
I remember playing DBZ supersonic warriors for the GBA, I had a great time playing it when I was a kid.
Love the "Field of View" reference with the GT clip there
The B3 story mode actually blew my young mind back when I first saw my friend playing it. Exploring the overworld was so fucking cool I begged my grandpa to get it for me
Burst Limit had my favourite presentation
The editing in these videos is amazing.
I really enjoyed DBZ Supersonic on GBA growing up. Had some really cool what if stories like Piccolo and Demon King Piccolo fusing
Super Dragon Ball Z is the most underrated DBZ game. It's such a fun fighter that takes more style cues from the manga instead of the anime.
Emulating that GBC game as we speak. I had no idea! Idk why, but you've been hitting a lot of my faves in your videos lately. Any chance you're gonna do one on FFVIII any time soon?
26:53 👀😮👁👁 Holy cow I had spoke to soon it seems 😅 well you had just covered it or mentioned SDBZ here and I'm thankful for that.
supersonic warriors is like 50% of my childhood
Appreciate the hyper dimension shout out, not a fan of the shade on sagas and 22 as I have fond memories regardless of and possibly despite quality. Sagas with my little brother with us dying laughing ripping on it while beating and unlocking everything, then just going around as bardock and prolly and trying to break the game, man that's one of the best memories we have together. 'bad' games ig exist but you can't replace the fun times. Enjoy what you enjoy.
Xenoverse 2. It's just huge.
Budokai Tenkaichi 2, Legacy of Goku 2, and Kakarot gotta be my favorites
Dragonball Legends should have definitely been mentioned. It rewarded you for actually recreating canon events.
I destroyed my first PS by Modding it so I could play just that Game. Burnt out my Disk Drive by keeping the Lid Open so I could get it to skip the Region Locking. Great Game and well worth it.
Didn't realize the Nintendo handhelds had so many acclaimed Dragonball games. I didn't play much of the DS and 3DS libraries, so it's always nice to come across some good stuff I missed out on a decade ago.
Bro forgot about Infinite World as the "final Budokai" on PS2 and the Legacy of Goku/Buu's Fury that was really sick on GBA
My son and I have been having a blast playing Budokai Tenkaichi 3, it is an amazing game. There was also a flash game called Dragon Ball Z Tournament that I use to play that was simple but I had some fun with it as a kid.
You had me worrying leaving attack of the saiyans for last. My favorite thing in the world is dragon ball and my favourite genre of video games is jrpg. So this thing makes the perfect game for me. I was waiting all my childhood for the sequel but we never got one even thought it was teased in the end credits with frieza.
I love Legendary Super Warriors! The difficulty and unlockables made it so much more fun
Just started playing BT3 earlier today. This video could not have been timed better.
Huh... No mention of Supersonic Warriors? One was on the GBA and its sequel was on the DS... Basically a 2D version of the Budokai Tenkaichi games which were really fun (though I liked how long the matches lasted in the first game, the second had the life bars go down way too quickly to savor the matches).
What's more, Arc System Works made them, so they didn't just come out of nowhere for Extreme Butoden on the 3DS. This is kinda made apparent since Supersonic Warriors 2 started the whole switching characters/assists on the touch screen and one or two songs introduced in SSW2 being brought back in Extreme Butoden.
20:31 as a kid I put so much time k to dragon ball z legendary super warriors. Over 200 hours playing over and over getting all the characters and building decks. Something about that game was addicting, and surprisingly a little bit of depth
'entered my FIELD OF VIEW' and then showing the GT opening was a hidden joke that I wasn't expecting to see.
It’s absolutely staggering how many Dragon Ball games there have been. I first went down the emulation rabbit hole in around 2000 because options were limited in the pre-Budokai 1 days, yet even back then there was an insane amount of Japanese releases and fan translations.
The first Budokai was amazing
Now there's the Fusions praise I've been waiting for! Better late than never!~
This video has actually introduced me to a handful of charcters i didnt know existed.... like SUPER JOBBER NATZ
i've spent way too much time on Supersonic Warriors 2 on DS as a kid, but I still love it, BT3 remains my fav, no suprise
I have to say I love DB Heroes world mission. Played 50h on switch and got it on pc again. Also watched every episode of the webseries and it just crazy nonsense that’s right up my alley. Maybe like Austin said if you google searched Goku SSJ 10 when you were a kid this is for you. Also loved all the mechanics and on switch you can basically just use touch for most of the inputs.
I played a Dragon Ball Z game on Gameboy Color that was like a card battler RPG. I remember it not being great but I played it to completion because it thoroughly told the story of the Buu saga and, at that point, they were airing the Android/Cell saga on Toonami. So its how I learned about what happens in the Buu saga. That and Pojo magazines. Also, the game had cursing and left in a lot of the stuff that was cut from the Toonami airing of the show.
I never hear anyone talk about this game. It was released in English. I think after Legacy of Goku, but it was for the OG Gameboy, not the GBA
I absolutely love the Butoden series. Playing all three via SNES9x and PC Gamepads was great with friends. If you dive deep there is a surprisingly good Fighting Game there.
I’ve always been a fan of OG Dragon Ball, so Origins has always been a favorite, but I never knew it got a sequel as a kid.
After getting a totally legit DS multicart from a Bazaar in Turkey 🇹🇷, I got to try Attack of the Saiyans for the first time and it’s so good! …too bad the timebomb hit 😭
And here I was just thinking about Hyper Dimension. Such amazing experience
Fun fact: Ozotto (the villain of V.R.V.S.) was actually mentioned on the cover of Chapter 429 of the manga in Japan to advertise the game.
There is also a dragon ball infinite world which has not aged well but back then was one of my favourite dragon ball games. The dragon world mission system got juiced up with some mini games and the combo system carried over from budokai 3
As someone who have played all the ps2 Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi games.
I am kind of INFURIATED that Bandai haven't invested in something like attack of the saiyans. You said it the best, this is what Kakarot could've been.
A more down to earth slice of life game that expands on the in-between stuff would've been so cool. Heck with it's own unique story that isn't just slightly deep, but incredibly in depth.
Infact the maps you showed in attack of the saiyans in what looks like a chinese-inspired town looks fucking COOL. Or the way north kaio's planet look like. It looks incredible. Or the traversal stuff you showed with kuririn, some of these video game original maps reminds me of 1 Dragon Ball game stage...
Do you remember babidi's stage in budokai 2 that clearly were never in the original manga or anime? I want MORE OF THOSE ORIGINAL things. A side of Dragon Ball that we've never seen. Basically something only video games can show us. Original worlds or stories.
It's why despite my disdain for DBFZ's story and my dislike for Android 21's personality in the game (Not her character design, her design is PEAK.)
I appreciate that DBFZ did go for an original story over what we got with XV 2 which is just fixing timelines.
So i definitely want something original like what DBFZ attempted or something akin to attack of the saiyans that is more personal so we can see what the characters we love are up to in whatever AGE of the story they are in.
34:16 - it does (but it's an unlockable). Amazing game, really worth playing and that emulation speed-up key helps a lot xD
I'm so happy someone is talking about World Mission.
That Saban early 90s intro unlocked memories for sure
FINALLY YOU ATLEAST TALKED ABOUT BUDOKAI 1! I FINALLY HAVE CLOSURE AFTER ALMOST 5 YEARS!
I need a fusions 2 that game got me through some tough times when I was in college
