Dragon Ball Z has a soft spot in my heart and is one of my favorite shows and anime in general. However, Legacy of Goku is... something a little different. I'd love a Switch Port of the second and third GBA games though. With the new Broly movie coming out in a few months I felt the need to catch up and play a bunch of DBZ games, so here's the first of what is probably gonna be a lot of videos with this kick tbh. Also Piccolo best dad.

Grinding is not just a gameplay feature, its a story feature. If ANY game would and should include grinding, its a DBZ RPG. Frankly I felt it fit perfectly.

Yeah I agree that if it makes sense anywhere it’s here. The exact method of grinding, as in via fighting random wildlife which have no business touching the Z warriors made little sense, but I definitely never cared about it back when I played the game

The Broly terroizing the village is not random. Its actually from the movie Broly Second coming. Also, for legacy of goku, if you get hit with a ki blast while flying, you get invincibility, so you can easily skip most of the grinding. Would also like to mention you can unlock hercule in legacy of goku 2 and the gogeta fusion in buus fury. The last 2 games were almost perfect in my opinion

*+AtticusRh0des* And when did he said those things? What he wanted to say with the cult classic part was that Dragon Ball GT Final Bout was released prior to the release and popularity of the anime. And he never said that these games were the only DBZ games made in america.

Even though there were no remake, Attack of the Saiyans for the Nintendo DS was basically just that. A restart of the story that made the first two saga more playable. Like Legacy of Goku that game plays true to an RPG but unlike the Legacy games it used a turn based battle like Legend of the Saiyans for Super Famicom instead of the Zelda style like Legacy. Also unlike Legacy, Attack of the Saiyans focus only on the Piccolo junior and Saiyan saga only and was based on the DBZ reboot Dragon Ball Kai series though its sequel which would had cover the Namek and Frieza saga never happen.

15:09 just wanted to disagree on account that Cel Saga was the first saga in which it felt like the writing got lazier about how characters got stronger, and how enemy origins felt less believable in the context of the body of the series up to that point.
But then my opinion is pretty much made moot whenever someone reminds me that Piccolo managed to hold his own against frieza by simply absorbing nail. So this comment was pointless.

I can't believe his complaints. He's acting as if the game designers should've been 100% accurate to the series, but if that was done it would be nonstop fighting and basically no adventure. This was made to be an RPG and it does stuff even better than its inspiration: Final Fantasy in tons of parts. Like the side quests and fighting dinosaurs and having levels to walk and fight through is actually better than the show itself. In the show they are either talking about the plot, training to get stronger, or doing the actual fights; all of which would never be the selling point of a video game other than the actual fights, and even then, this is an RPG on the gameboy. How could've it been better? BTW Supersonic Warriors didn't do the combat better in my opinion.

No, it wouldn't be. Not until GT and Super did Dragon Ball _ever_ become "nonstop fighting." Dragon Ball after the third arc and through the end to Z was definitely an action story, but there were massive chunks of either exposition, exploration of the world, and set-ups to fights. Honestly it works best as an action-RPG.

Legacy of Goku 2 is one of the BEST examples how a sequel improves upon original game. Seriously LoG1 is a steaming pile of garbage but LoG2, as well as Buu's Fury are pretty much a 10/10 games. It's only a shame they didn't make GT Transformed an RPG too.

The Legacy of Goku series is a pretty good prime example of a reeeeeeeeally shit series eventually becoming pretty decent because the developers actually LEARNED from their mistakes. The series didn't become perfect, not by any means, but it did DEFINITELY improve a ton over time and became pretty fun. I love the Legacy of Goku games... well... 2 and Buu's Fury... and would have loved to have seen a fourth installment. It's just a shame Webfoot went ahead and... did Dragon Ball GT: Transformation and Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu... talk about some maaaaaajor steps back. But then again, Dragon Ball GT: Transformation and Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu were a beat em' up and a fighting game respectively which were a major departure from the Legacy of Goku games and they just probably weren't too familiar with those genres and how to make them... good. Maybe if they were able to make sequels to those games despite them being even worse than the original Legacy of Goku, maybe they could have learned from their mistakes and made the sequels pretty good just like they did with the Legacy of Goku trilogy.

I can attest that, yes, Buu's Fury was absolutely amazing as a kid. Got it for Christmas and I'll never forget playing that game. Playing it as an adult in 2018, I doubt it ages as well as playing it as a kid circa 2006. I played the whole Legacy of Goku trilogy and you're right in saying the first one kinda sucked even at the time, although the janky mechanics were part of most games so it wasn't unplayable. Still beat the thing to full completion as a kid. The second game was MUCH better, and then Buu's Fury was one of those games you spend hundreds of hours on, max level all characters, get all the collectibles, get all the best stats and gear, and then are only disappointed when there's nothing left to do but beat up random enemies.

At least Taiketsu tries and you could perform special moves, unlock contents, and see certain endings.

I love the little non-canon side quests, this trilogy had its own identity instead of trying to follow the story as close as possible. The bandit camp, ninja hideout just crazy stuff like when you stop the train robbery!
Plus the addition of the weighted gear in Buu's Fury imo makes the grind feel less intense than 2.

Also they were a small dev with limited budget so it make sense why the first game suffer quality the way it did. The second game; however, was great cause the success of the first game brought in high sales and a demand for better product proving that there are fans of the series out there thus resulting in increase budget and they were able to afford a better engine to make the second and third game which bump the quality standard up a notch.

Played legacy of Goku as a kid and found a great glitch that helps you cheese through the game, if you are flying as an enemy shoots you with a ki blast, you are walking again, but now you are invincible and can beat any enemy/boss like this, but it resets if you hit the flight button again or go into a new screen. And in Buu's Fury, my brother and I had no clue how to use the stat points, so we played the whole game with the only strength increase coming from level ups, which wasn't much, but we kept pushing, it took us hours to beat Kid Buu, and when we finally accomplished it, we felt legendary. When I found out how to use the stat points as an adult I was amazed at how fast you can beat the game, even tried not using them like I did when I was a kid and could not believe how difficult it was, I couldn't do it and am still amazed at me and my brother's will power lol

I beat these games several times as a kid, thought they were great but then I didn't have much to compare them too. I'm glad I grew up in a time when a Game Boy was a must have.

I remember me and my friends where so hyped waiting for a new Legacy style game based on GT and instead we got transformation. what a bummer.

I played the first two, but never got to play the Buu one. I remember playing the hell out of 2, though.
I got so good at dodging that I'd purposefully not level Gohan after getting Piccolo. After all, you didn't have to use him in a fight until the end. I'd grind with Piccolo and Vegeta in the Red Ribbon army area before tackling the Androids/Cell 1, and after getting Trunks, I'd grind outside Gingertown, then on the islands where you fight Cell 2.
Once Goku joined, first thing I'd do is go to the orange 35 barrier blocking off the dinosaur-infested area, clear the first bit with Goku, then immediately switch to my level 5ish Gohan and watch his levels skyrocket. Actually, I'm pretty sure that dino area is the best place to grind.
I also remember struggling to get everyone to level 50 so I could get their statues, beat the Cell Games, and unlock Hercule. Then came the struggle to get Hercules to 50 just to see that stupid scene in the tv studio. xD Not to mention looking for the golden capsules. I remember going on my freaking dial-up internet and searching for capsule locations and how to shut down that one partying dude's generator lmao.

I just played through all three of these and realized that The Legacy of Goku is super short so i replayed it without cheats or the invincibility glitch to see how quickly i could beat the game with minimal grinding while still getting to max level. It took me one hour and twenty eight minutes.

Legacy of goku 2 was my first GBA game, I loved it. Emulated Buu's Fury many years later though I never finished it, just happen to start when many other great games happened to come out.

Who still remembers the cheat code for invincibility in Legacy of Goku 1? I have it engraved in my psyche that I unconsciously press up, down, left, right, b, a to this day on any controller lol. Even while I’m playing multiplayer games waiting in the lobby for a match
