Just another "me too". As a complete novice camera guy, I needed a reasonably good camera at a good price. I watched your reviews (and a few others) and made the ZV-E10 purchase based almost entirely on your reviews of it. So far, it's been great. My ONLY minor complaint about it is that it chews through batteries pretty quickly (so now I carry three), but perhaps that's normal for these fancy new whiz-bang mirrorless cameras with prodigious computing power. (Oh, and also FWIW: another Torontonian ... tho' relocated to Daytona Beach.)
Lenses are even a problem for Nikon. You only have the Viltrox 13mm or just announced Sigma 16mm. For the price I really like my Z30. It's a very capable little camera, if you don't want to fiddle around with 10-bit, HDR and everything. That said I really love, what the ZV-E10 brings and I might have a look into a used one 😂
im looking for a beginner camera to finally progress further than iphone photography, i take a lot of pictures but my main focus is skateboard filming and a lot of my adventures are at night, was heavily considering the R50 until i saw this video, the E10 dominated in low light and hearing that the R50 could be harder to find lenses for or would need adapters and you have to "make it work" instead of any lense just working on it, the E10 might be my final choice for first camera, thank you for this video especially the end, was still debating the R50(i like the look of it) even seeing how much better the E10 is in low light but the lense problem definetely has me thinking twice
Oh hi Mark! :) Quick question: what's your experience with video AF on R7 vs R10 vs R50? I'm looking into getting one of them but according to DPReview's Jordan Drake the video AF constantly drifts to the background when you're filming a person. Is this primarily an issue with R7 or all of these Canon cameras? Their older cameras like Canon 80D didn't seem to have this problem.
Hey, mark. I’m thinking to sell my ZVE10 because I find it difficult to focus everything on the screen when I use the Auto Intelligence Video for Vlogging. The focus keeps running here and there. When many subjects on the screen move, the camera seems confused when I wish it would just stay focus on everything on the screen. Nobody said about this so I wonder if it is only me having this problem. I’m just a beginner and not a pro so I prefer to set my camera on Auto.
I did it in 5.9k (no external monitor because you lose face and eye if you do that). but I must say, for RUclips talking heads - quite useable. Great camera overall.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Where you using autofocus? The reason why I ask is i heard someone complain that it catches your hands. It seemed perfect in this video and your past demos. I didn't see it ever switch to your hands.
Yes - I was using face and eye detect autofocus. I think it's good straight on. If you angle to the side a little it struggles more. If you wave your hands in front of your face - it can drift - but very good overall. Not quite the canon and sony eye where it latches on and won't let go but good
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for explaining that. I wave my hands a lot but do my shots straight on. I am actually started to think I will keep using my S5 in manual mode and just upgrade my top down camera. Decisions, decisions.
Also that backyard is too familiar to me now. I now need every low light test to be taken specifically in YOUR backyard or else I can't trust the results. Every camera reviewer go to Mark's backyard, single file line please, and no pushing.

If they open that mount and sigma releases their 18-50 2.8 for canon... Sony APSC is done. Until they release an a6XXX line replacement with 10 bit and all of the new features. Which I'm waiting for... I sold my old a6000 and all my cheap lenses and I'm waiting for that new Sony APSC camera. Hopefully it has that FX30 sensor.
M buying camera in couple of days what should I buy 6600 or zve10 ... There is sale here on 6600 so price difference is not that much between them.. please tell
16 2.8 and 16 1.4 @2.8 is not the same in terms of light transmission ;). The 1.4 lens will bring more light for sure at the same aperture. This is not ideal for noise test.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I saw what you did but you have to try this :) because in my experience it always brings more light and the bokeh is bigger despite both being at 2.8 :). And it always shows in low light tests because when you are at higher iso every photon matters. It is simple physics - Fstop is one thing, Tstop is another. And Tstops vary greatly between different lenses. For example Zony 55 1.8 is almost exactly T2.0, but the faster Zony 50 1.4 ZA is actually just under T1.7 which is 1/2 stops faster, according to the Fstops it must be 2/3 stops faster. Simple test - try one slow lens on the ZV-E10 and one faster. Like Sigma 16 1.4 against Sony 16 2.8 or even worse - a zoom lens. Zoom lenses lose more light than primes. Close the prime to the Fstop of the zoom and check the results :).
many people are confused to buy between sony zv e10 and nikon z 30. can you make a video mainly 1080p indoor test between them and walking stabilisation and autofocus test and can you say how much time the full battery lasts for 1080p video recording of both. Thanks.
i have already seen your full video of comparison between them but still does not got what I was looking for. Thanks. Too much confused which one to buy. as i mainly do 1080p video shoot and 1080p of sony is not good. pls do a video or pls say which one to buy between them. Thanks.
Question, I’m a novice to anything photo/video-graphy; I ride a motorcycle and I was wondering which one out of the R50 and the ZV-E10 would work best for night time videos mounted on my motorcycle. 😅 Obviously things like video stabilization, low-light capability, and wide enough lenses matter to me as I will have it mounted to the front of my moto facing towards me.
the zv-e10 with the Sony 11 would be the better choice, but I think you’d be better off with a DJI Action 4 for what you want. a mirrorless camera mounted on a motorcycle will likely not give you a good image because there is no real stabilization that would work (you could try catalyst browse to stabilize, but that still might not work). I would try the dji action 4 for what you want. action cams are designed exactly for the type of thing you want to do amzn.to/3vdg6Pe
Which lenses should i use for night street photography....for canon only... These r series lenses are very expensive... I have eos m200 with 22mm.... trying to upgrade to eos r system cause canon shut down m series
Nice comparison, curious about the ZV-E1 under that extreme low-light in the backyard :). By the way, Steve Vai concert was amazing yesterday here. I got also signature from band members and photos. I recommend, if he comes to your town, go as well!
I use Sigma 18 to 35mm 1.8 on R7 fast enough. Sony evf and no touch screen are deal brakers. in reality all three cameras can be used for any assigment really.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisI just bought the r50 and am gonna be vlogging. Would it work if I speed boosted to ef then used the samyang 14mm 2.8 Af that’s for full frame cameras?
Your test like these is what made me make my dad buy the little Dougie for me too. Haven't done much Videos shooting with it, but Photos!. Ooh done a lot of thase and even with the Kit Lens the Photos are Amazing 😍.
For the ZV-E10 - get the Sigma 16mm f 1.4 amzn.to/3KZ8ZOE for things like RUclips or interviews. You can get the Sigma f2.8 18-50 to replace the kit lens and have that zoom versatility. amzn.to/41z2KIa
Don't get 18-45, get 18-150 instead. Or if weight and size isn't the most concern, Viltrox EF-R3 Speedbooster with EF 24-70L f4, and EF 24mm f2.8 IS USM as RF16/2.8's Alternative .... And a RF nifty fifty
Hey mark... can we have a rolling shutter comparison between these cameras. I really like the zv-e10 but it has bad rolling shutter. Just want to see how it holds up against r50 and z30.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis oohh... then if we ignore the log profile.... nikon z30 seems to be the best vlogging camera. Low light performance is also good enough in my opinion. Now we have to wait for a z 12-28 pz vr for better wide angle. 🤘🏻
The ZV-E10 seems to crush the other too, in low light AF, and in low light color maintenance, at extreme/max ISOs. I got mine for about USD 550 incl. tax, equiv., when it was discounted, body-only.
TBH for average buyer of entry-level cameras testing with best lenses is useless. all test should be done with kit lenses they come with. and maybe perhaps later suggest better lenses. imho. 3:27 nikon fails to focus in dark. Was there any tracking set? nikon switched to focusing the background and retained best color quality and detail. except it failed to kept subject in focus. sony seocnd place with image Q and 1st place on retaining subject. Canon 3rd place after sony but cept subject in focus. So if Nikon was manually set to keep the subject in focus it'd win in all 3 categopries.
I was actually looking at the Canon but still think the Sony produces a better image... that could just be my bias though. Now if I can just make peace with that micro HDMI when monitoring to an external 24" monitor AND having the camera hang from a Manftotto Magic Arm, all will be right with the world 🔨🔨🔨
I'm having a bit of trouble with it - the autofocus is not working well. I will have a video on that this week. I would recommend the R10 over the R50 right now
@Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis I am new to video recording. UV filters make our video quality worse? Also great video i really like watching your lens videos
i just purchase a used ZVE10 , for short film and youtube video, which one should be my first and only lense i want to buy , viltrox 23mm or sigma 16mm ?
the sigma 16 is wide enough for closeup work, for RUclips vids and still good for short films, the 23 will have to be farther away from you. The autofocus is perfect even in extreme lowlight. But the 23 is excellent and can be used as long as you have the room. both are great
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis one thing more i want to know, with zve10 and 16mm sigma, would be good choice zhiyun m2s gimbal, as there is a cheap offer in olx (used one}
the canon just doesn't have any lenses - so I wouldn't choose that. So between the Nikon and Sony - Sony is more video focused and they are a great ecosystem to be in for videographers especially.
The so called "budget end of the market" will always be a battle of weird trade offs. canon literally gives us 10bit but no native glass, the cripple hammer is strong. if you want glass and 10bit you have to move up to a6700 which is double the price and creeps into full frame territory. we all know glass is king so everyone ends up going back to little Dougie when it comes to an affordable price.
They aren't going to give you R5 or R3 specs at this price point. People expect way too much for a budget camera like the R50. Seriously though for what it's worth it is spec'd out nicely. People just want to complain about features that rightfully so they hold back because of a budget line. At least it's not taking away the 4K DPAF like th old M50 did. If it's not one thing it's another. Canon has been doing really good lately. My other gripe is I could care less about non-native lenses and the manufacturer knows their own system and what works. Sorry not sorry. Same thing with the batteries. If you have OEM and the camera fails it is under warranty. Not so much with 3d party. People buy an expensive camera and then want to cheap out on lenses, batteries, and SD cards and then wonder why the camera is throwing error codes out. Just my two cents.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis please include R10 if possible next time. To me, Canon will allow Sigma 30 and 56mm F1.4 but will not allow 16mm to keep it's RF 16mm keep selling.

I have eos m200 with 22mm.... trying to upgrade to eos r system cause canon shut down m series
Still love Dougie's cousin, but outdoors a lot so picked up the R50 for the EVF, both great little cameras!
it is great
Nice informative video.
First time on your channel and surely not the last one.
Proud owner of a Nik Z30 willing to learn about technique.
Welcome aboard!
Nice comparison, curious about the ZV-E1 under that extreme low-light in the backyard :). By the way, Steve Vai concert was amazing yesterday here. I got also signature from band members and photos. I recommend, if he comes to your town, go as well!
I love Steve Vai - first with Zappa and now on his own. I spent my teenage years listening to him and Satriani
I use Sigma 18 to 35mm 1.8 on R7 fast enough. Sony evf and no touch screen are deal brakers. in reality all three cameras can be used for any assigment really.
That’s a good setup for sure. The a6700 is now out with a viewfinder and touch screen - so much more comparable
Curious about the rolling shutter of the r50 compared to the Sony. Thanks!
I will have a test. canon might be slightly better. both are really bad 🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisagreed
I am in vlogging and I brought CANON R50 please tell me it's a good purchase. I am new to this industry
The R50 is a great camera. Just get the 16mm 2.8 lens for vlogging and you'll have a great setup
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisI just bought the r50 and am gonna be vlogging. Would it work if I speed boosted to ef then used the samyang 14mm 2.8 Af that’s for full frame cameras?
What about the photography?
I just need a camera to take only photos, mainly portraits. Can you please suggest a camera among these three.
Gert the R50 with the 50mm 1.8 RF les from Canon
Your test like these is what made me make my dad buy the little Dougie for me too. Haven't done much Videos shooting with it, but Photos!. Ooh done a lot of thase and even with the Kit Lens the Photos are Amazing 😍.
Thank you Mark!
Excellent video,
I was just thinking of buying this camera the canon R50 ,What do you think is recommended instead of the kit lens?
For the ZV-E10 - get the Sigma 16mm f 1.4 amzn.to/3KZ8ZOE for things like RUclips or interviews. You can get the Sigma f2.8 18-50 to replace the kit lens and have that zoom versatility. amzn.to/41z2KIa
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis and for the canon r50
Don't get 18-45, get 18-150 instead. Or if weight and size isn't the most concern, Viltrox EF-R3 Speedbooster with EF 24-70L f4, and EF 24mm f2.8 IS USM as RF16/2.8's Alternative .... And a RF nifty fifty
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
I thought the question was what do you recommend other than the lens kit for the R50.
Hey mark... can we have a rolling shutter comparison between these cameras. I really like the zv-e10 but it has bad rolling shutter. Just want to see how it holds up against r50 and z30.
the r50 is also bad, but the z30;is actually quite good
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis oohh... then if we ignore the log profile.... nikon z30 seems to be the best vlogging camera. Low light performance is also good enough in my opinion. Now we have to wait for a z 12-28 pz vr for better wide angle. 🤘🏻
Many thanks for making this comparison. How about the news that says canon is now opening up RF lenses to third party manufacturers ?
they have only approved one from not one of the major brands - so we'll see if they do anything substantial.
Can you test the canon r50 with a 35mm f1.8 lens or nifty 50 lens?
The ZV-E10 seems to crush the other too, in low light AF, and in low light color maintenance, at extreme/max ISOs. I got mine for about USD 550 incl. tax, equiv., when it was discounted, body-only.
great deal!!
good test i wish you did it with 24 mm which is 35 mm equivalent
Hi Mark . Could you please review and compare Fujifilm XH2S please.
Thanks
Now if I can just make peace with that micro HDMI when monitoring to an external 24" monitor AND having the camera hang from a Manftotto Magic Arm, all will be right with the world 🔨🔨🔨
Hey. Factory settings. My videos are coming out overexposed most of the time. Can you point me in the right direction please?
try the iA mode for a while - see what that looks like
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis ok thanks!
I want to buy sony z v e 10 it is cheaper than canon R50 but it does not have electronic view finder thats the reason I am buying R 50 ....
My Sony ZV-E10 Best
Thanks, Mark for this video!!
ZV-E10 all the way!!! Totally biased by the way. Just did a review myself showing ZV-E10 in low light. 😎 so smooth!!!
haha
I didn't expect the good person comment at the end.. I blushed a little 😅
😀
Proud of our lil Dugi.
So, is the Canon R50 video ever coming out?
I'm having a bit of trouble with it - the autofocus is not working well. I will have a video on that this week. I would recommend the R10 over the R50 right now
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis 👀
Sigma and tamron lenses now coming for Canon RF mount
Yes finally - great news. So far only a few apsc announced - but a good start for sure!!
Great haircut!!
The best, as always
Who csres about body without good lenses? Go home Canon.
it’s a major problem for sure
Can you explain what this means? Youre talking about the standard kit lens?
Yeah, because getting an EF adapter is so difficult 😆
Do you use UV filters on your lenses?
No, I don’t use UV filters
@Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis I am new to video recording. UV filters make our video quality worse? Also great video i really like watching your lens videos
they don't really do anything except add a little lens protection
The Sigma 16mm 1.4 come in a canon mount!
i just purchase a used ZVE10 , for short film and youtube video, which one should be my first and only lense i want to buy , viltrox 23mm or sigma 16mm ?
I would do the Sigma 16.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis will you plesae point out decesion taking fact?
the sigma 16 is wide enough for closeup work, for RUclips vids and still good for short films, the 23 will have to be farther away from you. The autofocus is perfect even in extreme lowlight. But the 23 is excellent and can be used as long as you have the room. both are great
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks , for prompt and detail reply, you win my heart.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis one thing more i want to know, with zve10 and 16mm sigma, would be good choice zhiyun m2s gimbal, as there is a cheap offer in olx (used one}
Doug supremacy!!!!
Yes yes yes!!!!
Nice cut G
i think canon looks better at lower isos, you can see noise in sony even at lower iso
My lovely younger star coming.
Can’t choose between these three cameras!!!
the canon just doesn't have any lenses - so I wouldn't choose that.
Cant live without EVF. And easy to buy lenses that are not old. Thats why I got R50.
Panasonic S5 II review please..
Nice haircut!
sigma 18-35 f1.8
Canon is already allowing third party lens.
one lens by Meike which is an 85 is not much - and that hasn’t been released yet either. But hopefully it’s a good sign
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis please include R10 if possible next time. To me, Canon will allow Sigma 30 and 56mm F1.4 but will not allow 16mm to keep it's RF 16mm keep selling.
The R10 has the same sensor so it will be the same - but I did that test too ruclips.net/video/teY7T-s6oeg/видео.html
Canon 70D :D
10 bit is far better than 8 bit. I will go with canon
I like the 10-bit better too. HLG3 isn’t bad on the Sony, but I’ll take 10-bit all day
I love you u r the best
2:31 Cat!
🐈
Sony looks better IMHO.
I think the Sony is winning here
they are pretty good in low light
Nikon still can't focus
