As a complete beginner I ordered the R50. One minor edit- 9:20-9:30 R50 does not have a headphone jack. This is the biggest downside to me but I’ve been looking into solutions like a mini HD to female 3.5 adaptor or using a microphone with a built in headphone jack to monitor audio. Any thoughts on those solutions? Microphone with headphone jack recommendations?
im looking for a camera to do video and good photography and im upgrading from the canon t100 isd the r50 a good choice. because i think that the canon r50 looks better and sharper than zv-e10. great video. also the r50 has a record limit of an 1 hour continuious shooting

But in everything else it seems that the Sony is better. Somehow my heart tells me to buy the Canon but my head tells me to buy the Sony.
Having the same issue. I want it mostly for photography but I do want to dip into videography here and there. And I don't know whether the viewfinder is enough reason to go for the R50. Did you end up buying any of them? If so, which one and why?

The L series obviously did great, but I wanted a wider focal length, so I just picked up a used EF-S 55-250mm lens and can't wait to try it out!

Get the ZVE10. Reviewers are not being harsh enough on the Cannon r50 because they fear backlash. I bought the CannonR50, I also live in a third world country so don't have enough money to play around with purchasing parts. After using this camera. I would say hands down get the ZVE10. Cannon is too locked down and proprietary, even getting batteries and a charger is a problem. Wanna use dummy batteries? Thats a major problem with cannon, you have to buy their batteries. Wanna charge while using the camera for long sessions? You have to buy a cannon charger $150USD. Want low light shooting without buying expensive lenses? Good Luck. Cannon sucks in low light shooting. Also, you cant get good footage from the cannon without being extremely still with a tripod. Any every little jitter is picked up and blurs photos making them unusable. The microphone on the Cannon sucks. Also the software suite for the Sony ZVE10 is absolutely amazing at removing unstable/shaky videos etc they use some kinda crazy technology. Again, just get the Sony ZVE10. I regret getting the Cannon so hear I am watching what I missed out on. The cannon proprietary battery especially caught me off guard. Cause I have an 8hr event to tape in 4 days and the battery on my cannon can't even go over 30 mins and I can't use a powerbank with a USB like the Sony. I foolishly just assumed that I could use USB like the sony....just get the Sony
I don't know what you're talking about, the LPE17 batteries (third party, 35$ for 2 + 1 charger) are dirt cheap just like dummies (third party, 19$) for powerbanks (27000mAh, 16$). I shoot mostly concerts, in low light or colored backlight, completely handheld and also with the kit lens. The pictures turn out great.
