I was lucky enough to have born when I was because _For Your Eyes Only_ was the first Bond movie I ever saw. I got into Bond just as the filmmakers decided to get serious and stop making silly Bond movies. I really loved _FYEO_ and Roger Moore's Bond, and still do. Note: It wasn't till a few years ago that I found out all of Carole Bouquet's dialogue in that movie was dubbed. That little piece of info doesn't exactly ruin the movie for me, but....well, I had to wonder how many other little Hollywood tricks I fell for as a kid. Next you'll be telling me the Ark of the Covenant isn't really being stored in a government warehouse and that those weren't real leprechauns in Darby O'Gill and the Little People.
@@magnusskallagrimsson6707 It might not have been a great second movie to the first Muppet movie, but I still managed to love Miss Piggy quite a lot, while growing up, watching it.
I liked all the films, I saw them a while back except for SOB. I just watched that. It’s a hilarious satire on the Hollywood movie industry. the dialogue is amazing. I loved it
Anyone lucky enough to I have seen most or ALL of these films that week. That was a GREAT WEEK for movies!!!! If I was forced to choose one, I would have probably gone to see Dragonslayer!!!!!!! Young me in this year would have been thrilled to see a Dragon in a movie!!!!!
I need to see SOB. I wouldn't mind seeing Dragonslayer either. FYEO is one of my favorite Bond movies. I saw the first two muppet movies in a theater and enjoyed them.
Great movies, and Julie Andrews sure surprised the heck out of me, in S.O.B., based off what she just did, in one of her scenes. We never expected to see our own Mary Poppins, or Maria von Trapp, show off herself, in one of her husband's movies.
He didn't exactly hate it, he just thought the movie gave too much attention to the jewel-thief plot, and not enough attention to the Muppets (save for Miss Piggy), or their personalities throughout.
Retro memory - I went to see Dragonslayer with my cousins. They sneaked out to see Rocky 3. I stayed. They were too dumb to keep it secret and immediately talked about Rocky when my uncle picked us up. They got punished. All I remember about Dragonslayer is the main character finding out the other boy is not really a boy and the wimpy king showing up after the dragon is already dead to take credit for killing it…
I've seen S.O.B. a handful of times, and it has a lot of laughs and romantic bits involved, like Blake Edwards' "10".Truth be told, after watching the movie, I never saw "Mary Poppins" or "The Sound of Music" the same way again. Even so, Julie still dazzled the movie up in such a broad and bright fashion, with the songs, "Polly-Wolly Doodle" (the movie's overall theme song) and "Oh, Promise Me".
Ebert was wrong when he said John Saxon was appointed US Ambassador to Mexico; it was John Gavin, from Spartacus and Psycho (both 1960), who became Ambassador to Mexico in 1981, appointed by President Ronald Reagan, another actor.
Dragon Slayer is still good even now, after the dragons in GOT. This movie from way back is a film you should definitely watch. The plot, involving a girl who's father does not want her to run the same risk as all the other girls in the sacrifice lottery is very well done, as is the other couple of plotlines. Sadly, the main star--the be-permed blond boy is not the strongest, or charismatic of actors--can't hold the viewer's attention, but when he is off the screen the movie comes to life. Turning to the Muppets, I loved the Muppet Show, and really did not care much for the films. The James Bond film here 'For Your Eyes Only' suffers from Roger Moore (he is not James Bond any more than Pierce Brosnon was) but the opening credits featuring the stunning Sheena Easton singing the main title theme is amazing. Watch that, and then turn out.
@@Fiveash-Art Hmm. I actually think George Lazenby was the best bond. He had the build of a spy, and while he was not as smooth Sean, his rough ex6erior elevated him for me.
I saw Dragonslayer in a second run movie theater in Queens New York City. It was as boring as water flavored with different water. Peter macnicol, best known for being the weirdo in Ghostbusters 2.
😂I wonder if he enjoyed the scene where the guy got his head blown off? Great head explosion scene. Better than any of those Woody Allen movies he worships. Dude was annoying.
What... what is this shy and humble version of Miss Piggy that Ebert's talking about? Certainly no one I've ever seen on screen. What episode of the Muppet Show had Piggy feeling so insecure she couldn't get out of bed? Is he just pulling this out of his ass?
This exactly! Miss Piggy was never EVER presented as being shy or self-hating! Ebert's written review went further and said he didn't like it because she looked thinner in this -- I disagree with all of it, and he's really reading way too much into it.
The film was produced by Lorimar and released theatrically by Paramount. WB seems to have inherited the movie -- or certain rights connected to it -- after they bought Lorimar.
@@piccolomaster Unfortunately, Gene's reviews are difficult to find but as far as I know, FYEO and Octopussy are the only positive reviews he gave to Moore's Bond films.
I really miss these guys, and the good old days of cinema when there were several great movies released every week and I wanted to see most of them.
I saw Dragon Slayer and Clash of the Titans the day after graduation from elementary school ,great day and thanks forever Pop.❤💪💪
I soooooo miss these guys, The analysis to a frivolous movie like the muppet caper movie. Talking about characters and development.

Wow. FYEO was also my first Bond movie and I enjoyed very much.
I wish I saw this one in a theater. The only Moore film I saw on the big screen was A View to a Kill when I was 17. I didn't mind it.
FYEO was my first Bond too and it made Roger Moore my favorite Bond. Nice to find there are others who feel the same.
Even in 2022 dragonslayer has one of the greatest on screen dragons in cinema
I love Gene's realization at the amount of character analysis they're devoting to Miss Piggy.
But I think Roger is correct. It was something that irked me as a kid.

The best part of For Your Eyes Only was the rock climbing piece which was probably done mostly with a stunt double.
That was a great sequence. A really entertaining adventure.
I really miss Gene and Roger. RIP
I watched them all the time in the 80s and 90s. One of the first reviews I remember seeing was for The Black Hole when I was 11.
I’m surprised that the clip revealed the dragon’s visage, which was arguably the high point of the movie.

Yes, he corrected himself the following week.
Gavin was considered for the role of James Bond at one point despite being American
"The Great Muppet Caper". Haven't seen it, but it looks really over the top. In a good way. Better than "A Chorus Line", anyway.
A little too much fourth wall breaking humor. Charles Grodin was funny
I remember Miss Piggy on a motorcycle
