    Thank you for uploading all these episodes. And I appreciate you explaining why there's a tv frame. At 1st it was off-putting but knowing why it's there makes sense and quality looks best because of it

    Tron is one of my all time favorite films . I've owned almost every home video format and was never as excited when Disney released a CAV remastered Widescreen Edition from the 70mm negative print .An Archive Collection Laserdisc in 1995 . It was the best Laserdisc I'd ever own & to this day I still own it. I wish Disney would release it in 70mm it would be spectacular .

    I’m shocked they loved Tron! As a huge fan of Secret oh Nmh it’s heartwarming to see them so positive about these two amazing films.

      I agree with you. They were also habitually negative about animation, including another Don Bluth gem An American Tail.

    They showed huge film clips in those early years. In later years,, the clips were much smaller.

    • @schmeltingaccident
      @schmeltingaccident 3 месяца назад

      Yeah, first thing I noticed watching the old eps from 70s and early 80s was that the clips they showed were like twice as long as the later 90s episodes, at least. Maybe because I grew up watching S and E in the 90s as a kid that I prefer the clips to be much shorter than the really old days. Also, shorter clips mean longer talking/arguing among the two men, which is why I (and many others) loved the shows in the first place.
      Edit: maybe my logic was wrong. The movie clips were shortened in later years probably because of more commercial ads played, and their discussions were probably the same length more or less. Still, I kinda liked the shorter movie clip format more

    • @nickperkins8477
      @nickperkins8477 3 месяца назад

      @@schmeltingaccident I might like the shorter clips a little better, but it’s also an unanswerable question, to me. In these years, the show was named “Sneak Previews,” arguably because the clips were a nod to a movie’s length, anyway.

    I read one of the reasons why Siskel & Ebert left Sneak Previews was because they were tired of having the dogs in the balcony.

    Another video where Gene Siskel expresses his disappointment with previous Disney movies. I guess _The Fox and the Hound (1981)_ didn't cut it; maybe _Splash (1984)_ was their next hit? _Tron_ was popular but not a hit at the box office, making only $33M on an estimated $17M budget (double is the break-even point).
    Funnily enough Bluth started his own studio with _Secret of NIMH_ being one of his first films but it made only $14M on a budget of $7M so only broke even. For some reason (Christmas season?) they released their movies almost the same weekend as other children's fare like _Oliver and Company (1988), The Little Mermaid (1989)_ and _Home Alone (1990),_ (as well as this a week before _Tron)_ which may have led to their films underperforming and the studio's demise.
