Loved Jurassic Park, saw it in the theater. Then waited for a couple years till we could buy the vhs tape. My dad knowing how much we loved it, went to Tower Records at midnight to be one of the 1st in line to get it. He got it and then since it was a regular school day we couldn't watch it till we got home, there was a hurricane warning so all public schools were canceled and we got to stay home and watch the movie all day. I think we watched it 3 or 4 times 😂. One of the best days of my childhood.
Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time, must have seen it at least 50 times as an adult (never mind the times I watched it as a child) and even though I now know every single line by heart, I'll still pop it in every couple of months.
It's one of my all time top ten Favorite Movies, I remember some friends of mine and I went to the movie theater when this was in theaters, It was amazing, Awesome, and Great.
Its because it has a lot of subtle and intelligent things to say about family in it, it isn't just a dinsoaur monster movie as these two dingbats seem to think. Also it also says a lot about the nature of life, they seem to have missed those bits.
That following Monday everyone at school had seen it,some had seen it twice by that point. It doesn’t really seem that long ago but I guess it was there are 31 year olds who were babies at the time….damn I realized that as I was writing it😂
My aunt and uncle took my brother, sister, and me to see "Jurassic Park." Wow it was nearly thirty years ago. But I don't know where the years went. Wow. And this was the same year Spielberg did "Schindler's List," which our dad took us to. Spielberg did the two movies the same year. Let that sink in.
Last Action Hero is an awful lot of fun. The biggest laugh for me is when they go to the video store and see the stand-up display of "STALLONE: TERMINATOR 2." Just a funny little peek into an alternate reality where Ahh-nold never existed, and other action stars are huge and step up to take his most famous roles. Who would've been in Commando? The Conan movies? Predator? Red Heat? Raw Deal?

I think they did. They both gave the movie a thumbs up, despite not liking most of the characters or the plot direction after the 1st act. Those thumbs up were bought by the action and cgi accomplishments.
If you hate the characters and the plot, it's hard to enjoy the special effects. This movie was one of only two times I ever walked out of a movie before the end.
@@Deftonesdsm Didn't you just hear the boy's review, where they said this movie LACKED a sense of awe, and Roger called it... first words out his mouth.. a missed opportunity... That's why I too walked out when it first came out, oh so many years ago now. Only time in my life I did. I sensed, but could not articulate as smoothly as S&E, the missed opportunity as well. Jaws had great human characters, this one did not. That they gave it thumbs up was my only disappointment. The only Spielberg movie I've ever hated.
I agree with their complaints about Jurassic Park, but the effects and intensity are just so spectacular, that it overrides whatever flaws the story carries.
Siskel was wrong; I was under the age of ten when I first saw it in the movies, and I wasn't scared. I was extremely thrilled by it, and It started my lifelong fascination with dinosaurs.
Well, it worked for you. I STILL wouldn't recommend little kids see the movie until they're older. Maybe 10 is a little old but I remember seeing it again recently and I had forgotten how intense it was. For little kids, especially sensitive kids, I wouldn't push it on them. Ultimately, every parent has to make that kind of decision for themselves.
I was 12 and it was the scariest film I'd seen to date. It felt really long at the time and when it was over I felt like I'd survived an ordeal. I did enjoy the movie, though. Seeing it again this year it was a bit disappointing that after the promise of the opening scenes it really devolved into a pure action movie when a bit more humanity along the way would have deepened the story. That said I liked the characters more than Siskel and Ebert, from how Grant put the little kid in his place at the beginning to Nedry's sniveling greed and Hammond's eccentric egoism.
I totally disagree with Ebert at 11:31. He references that early shot (shown on this episode) of the brachiosaurs roaming as being the only "majesty of these animals" moment in the picture.... Off the top of my head without having seen this movie in a decade, there are like 10+ scenes that all dwell on the miracle of having these creatures back on earth. Where they are saving the poisoned Triceratops and Dr. Grant lays his entire body on the creature and listens to it breathe, Hammond urging the newly born Raptor out of it's egg, the scene also shown in this episode where the brachiosaur is eating in the tree tops while grant and the kids watch, Grant admiring the flock patterns of the running dinos, the closing shot of the flying Pterodactyls, and more. I would also include the last shot of the T-rex as it deus ex machina'd it's way into the finale, roaring in the lobby and reclaiming the island and kind of transcending it's role as movie monster. They could have had more shots of Dinosaurs peacefully grazing but we got plenty of it, too much more and the pacing would be off.
When the lawyer runs out of the Jeep and into the outhouse and Jeff Goldbloom says, "Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go" I nearly died. One of the funniest parts of the movie.

They were right about the homogenisation of the film industry and every film being the number one movie star doing his thing and also commenting on it at the same time.
Jurassic Park was one of their best top reviews ever done, the movie was a knockout in June of 93 red hot summer month and still remains one of my favorite dinosaur movies, but Last Action Hero had some funny but cheesy moments but didn't approve to S&E, but I miss their kickass show growing up watching it sometimes late at night when I couldn't sleep, thanks for the upload bro.
8:08 just goes to show how dense both of them could be. The absence of parents is invariably used because it forces the kids to deal with dramatic problems on their own--obviously, if the parents were around then the kids would run to them and the conflict would revolve around the parents instead.
JP 1 is terrific more than the lost world and the shortness of JP 3. The special effects in JP 1 are state of the art computer effects and I enjoyed it for Richard Attenborough and Jeff Goldblum
Before Jurassic Park was a movie, I read the book in one absorbing Sat. afternoon. When finished, I thot, "This is gonna be an awesome movie". Movie followed the book, except for the finish. I loved it!
I remember seeing this episode in 93 and feeling just the same as I do know... they were off base in their criticism of Jurassic Park, but I was so thankful they gave a spotlight to The Music of Chance, a terrific film that was completely overlooked at the time and forgotten today.
Chicago, the world, it was so different back then, I'll always be nostalgic about the late 80s-early 90s, so this is a refreshing look back (Liked LAH but it ended up coming short overall) Loved they put THE conversation in Jurassic Park that you understand and appreciate it as you get older (loved the dinos as a kid but the coversations as an adult)
JP is little more than Crichton reworking Westworld, his first script. An amusement park where SOMETHING GOES WRONG and people are then chased by robots or dinosaurs.
Crichton wasn't a very original writer in that way. It always "something goes wrong" with SCIENCE and then some plucky characters come together to fight for survival.
Man, I liked the world a lot better in the 1980's and 1990's before the internet. It seemed like such a more simple, reasonable, and peaceful time. Getting reviews from these guys rather than all of these angry internet trolls.
I love the human characters in Jurassic Park, especially Sam Neills Alan Grant . Hes the Indiana Jones of this franchise. And theres plenty of awe. It's a timeless classic with great fun all around. It's the sequels that have no awe.

The Last Action Hero is a cult classic. People didnt know how great a movie like that could be. It was Deadpool two to three decades before Deadpool. This movie didnt just break the 4th wall. It blew the wall to smithereens
They were bang on about JP-it did need more scenes of awe and it was too intense for kids 10 and under. I was 10 and was unprepared for what I saw but still loved it all the same.
I actually quite like Last Action Hero, though I feel it could have been done a lot better, the idea was better than the execution, and Gene was right, they could have cut at least 30 minutes from it.
I agree with Gene& Roger saying that Jurassic Park was too intense for kids under the age of 10.... one time (I saw this 4 times in the Theater; Thank you, Mr. Spielberg!!!) there was this kid about 7 or 8 years old sitting in the row in front of us, and I said to my date:"I don't think he's going to be able to handle this movie" His mother overheard me & rudely said"yes, he can, he's very mature for his age" "yeah, right; we'll see" I thought.....no more than 35 minutes later did she have to drag out her screaming crying kid out of the theater because he was too freaked out- heed our warnings!!
People in these comments are seemingly so hung up on their relatively minor criticisms of Jurrasic Park that they fail to see the overall positive review. I guess when a movie is regarded as a “classic” people seem to believe that means it’s unassailable or entirely beyond any criticism.

it actually makes my brain hurt that there was genuine belief among the people behind _Last Action Hero_ that _theirs_ was the movie to see that weekend - that Steven Spielberg, that hack, was a washed-up has-been after _Hook_ and that NOTHING could stop their movie because it had Arnold Schwarzenegger in it. and the _most_ mind-blowing part? they weren't THAT off the mark with Hollywood's general thinking in '92/93 - that Arnold was SUCH a huge star that nothing could possibly stop _Last Action Hero._ it's one of the all-time greats in terms of Hollowood Hubris; they KNEW [see: THOUGHT] they could do _anything_ they wanted because they KNEW [see: THOUGHT] that they could totally get away with it. the lame jokes, the farting corpse, the smug, detached air of intellectual superiority to their audience . . . _fuck_ Steven Spielberg and his dinosaurs, man! our movie's got Arnold? our movie's gonna play all Summer and beyond! we CANNOT FAIL. then the dailies started coming in. then the test audiences rejected it with the hateful force of a thousand atomic bombs. then the trailer for _Jurassic Park_ dropped, and so did the world's collective jaw. then the word in town was nearly religiously rhapsodic about what Mr. Spielberg & Co. had made. i imagine that for the people responsible for _Last Action Hero,_ those final two weeks leading up to that weekend in May '93 were like the last days of the Reich in Berlin once Russian artillery had opened up near enough to be heard in the city center. i imagine a _lot_ of petulant, cruel blame was hurled with abandon AND at the people probably deserving it the very _least._ probably on that poor, young kid who i'm sure did he best and who wasn't even there to defend himself . . . or old enough to fully understand that they were never gonna let him act again. things were probably completely relaxed yet somehow even more ridiculous in the Schwarzenegger palace, though; a completely firm knowledge that his movie was going to come out on top, because _screw_ the critics and the people who actually know about making movies. Arnold in movie? Movie do well. Arnold _not_ in movie? What's there to see? Also, what's a dinosaur?
it's a bit funny how the Home Video Pick of the Week that _Jurassic Park_ opened was _The Lost World._ because . . . y'know . . . what the SEQUEL to _Jurassic Park_ turned out to be called. probably not by accident.

Despite both recommending it, they’re completely out to lunch. I guess I’m not as deep or smart as they are or were, because I found ALL the characters interesting. And there was a sense I’d “awe” to seeing the dinosaurs. They got this wrong.
I think they over emphasized their negative points. Hammond is an interesting character, but I agree with them about Grant and Satler being a bit dull. There certainly were attempts to bring in awe in the 2nd half of the movie, but they were kind of right that the movie turns into a monster flick instead pf a Spielberg "wonder" movie. I love Jurrassic Park but the first act is certainly the best part.

Just goes to show you how wrong they were. Jurassic park was one of if not THE most ground breaking and influential movies of the time. 30 years later and it's still impressive. The actors were spot on and they are still making the films. I thought the choices in actors was fantastic and it did NOT get boring at all. But, these two have gotten it wrong so many times and they over analyze everything when if the movie keeps you interested, it did its' job. Not appropriate for kids under 10? I think it appealed to them MOST. Thumbs down to you both for getting yet another one WRONG again.
What was funny about this show was after they did the big two films, I was thinking, "What else are they going to review?" The last one was very touching the way they talked about it.
Every time I rewatch one of these reviews I’m always surprised at 1) how sensitive, fearful, and weak stomached both are, 2) how absolutely overprotective of kids’ sensibilities they seem to be, 3) how they either seem to only watch parts of the movies (in that they seem to critique a film for not having a certain quality and ignore all the parts of the movie that demonstrate said quality 4) and lastly, how they seem very narrow minded in the quality of a film based on how a particular demographic will view and understand the picture. They are two vary intelligent and skilled reviewers so I’ll have to assume that many of these shortcomings were a product of the show format (in that they only had 3-4 min per movie to talk and discuss their thoughts), rather than them being cultural snobs....
The Jurassic Park review was interesting considering that Gene said in the review for Carnosaur a month before this movie came out that the humans are much more interesting (most particularly Diane Ladd) than the dinosaurs and in here, the dinosaurs are much more interesting than the humans other than Jeff Goldblum.
It wasnt a missed opportunity. it pretty much follows the book up until the end and is still an amazing movie with good characters regardless of what these ass clowns say.
First, it's Herbs not Erbs...good grief. I was 10 when I saw Jurassic Park twice in the theatres. I was shaking in my seat but never felt I wanted to shut my eyes. In fact I was glued to the screen. Awesome movie, even in 2017.
Are you British? They say "erbs" in America generally. It's accepted as common usage there. I know Brits like to pronounce the "H" in Herbs but you should respect the cultural difference even if you think it's silly personally. Language evolves differently when you are separated by region. Canada, Australia, America, Britain. There's nothing wrong with it changing differently in different places. It's just natural ;)
I wish they would review the newest Jurassic Park that came out in 2018. That was one of the absolute worst movies of all time..coming down from the original Jurassic Park which was a masterpiece.
While it's true that Jurassic Park wasn't big on character deelopment, I think they kind of missed the point. Dinosaurs and special effects aside, it's more of a thinking movie; lots of scientific, philosophical, and ethical questions to consider. Even Crichton himself admitted that his stories were not driven by characters, but by concepts. To each his own, and it's a fair criticism that weak characters are not a great way to make a movie, but I feel that if you approach the film with an almost academic mindset then it comes off as being much better. Probably helps if you have read the book, too.
It was great special effects at the time but seriously without googling....Can you remember the characters names??....probably not because it was about the special effects and not the humans.
S & E think every movie should be a character study. Maybe if the T rex had a complex about being the only T rex in the world they would have liked it more.
It’s crazy how these guys are pretty much saying what we say about movies now. I think it’s unfair to critique a movie by comparing it to a masterpiece like Jaws.
What Ebert is saying is nonsense ... As a teenager watching this my jaw was on the floor the whole time any dinosaurs were on the screen. It had an equal amount of awe inspiring imagery as something like Close Encounters. ... I'd definitely agree with them that a lot of the acting was a bit cringeworthy though.
As a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist, as with most kids I loved dinosaurs. But when I saw it, I was disappointed with this movie--the animals looked so fake.
Gotta love that Ebert plugged My Neighbor Totoro, a film not distributed in North America.

Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time, must have seen it at least 50 times as an adult (never mind the times I watched it as a child) and even though I now know every single line by heart, I'll still pop it in every couple of months.
It's one of my all time top ten Favorite Movies, I remember some friends of mine and I went to the movie theater when this was in theaters, It was amazing, Awesome, and Great.
I didn't like it.
Its because it has a lot of subtle and intelligent things to say about family in it, it isn't just a dinsoaur monster movie as these two dingbats seem to think. Also it also says a lot about the nature of life, they seem to have missed those bits.
That following Monday everyone at school had seen it,some had seen it twice by that point. It doesn’t really seem that long ago but I guess it was there are 31 year olds who were babies at the time….damn I realized that as I was writing it😂
My aunt and uncle took my brother, sister, and me to see "Jurassic Park." Wow it was nearly thirty years ago. But I don't know where the years went. Wow. And this was the same year Spielberg did "Schindler's List," which our dad took us to. Spielberg did the two movies the same year. Let that sink in.

Last Action Hero is an awful lot of fun. The biggest laugh for me is when they go to the video store and see the stand-up display of "STALLONE: TERMINATOR 2." Just a funny little peek into an alternate reality where Ahh-nold never existed, and other action stars are huge and step up to take his most famous roles. Who would've been in Commando? The Conan movies? Predator? Red Heat? Raw Deal?
I’m assuming Stallone occupied all of Schwarzenegger’s roles in this alternate universe, and perhaps Dolph Lundgren played all of Stallone’s roles lol

Those thumbs up were bought by the action and cgi accomplishments.
If you hate the characters and the plot, it's hard to enjoy the special effects. This movie was one of only two times I ever walked out of a movie before the end.

@@Deftonesdsm Didn't you just hear the boy's review, where they said this movie LACKED a sense of awe, and Roger called it... first words out his mouth.. a missed opportunity... That's why I too walked out when it first came out, oh so many years ago now. Only time in my life I did. I sensed, but could not articulate as smoothly as S&E, the missed opportunity as well. Jaws had great human characters, this one did not. That they gave it thumbs up was my only disappointment.

I agree with their complaints about Jurassic Park, but the effects and intensity are just so spectacular, that it overrides whatever flaws the story carries.
Siskel was wrong; I was under the age of ten when I first saw it in the movies, and I wasn't scared. I was extremely thrilled by it, and It started my lifelong fascination with dinosaurs.

Well, it worked for you. I STILL wouldn't recommend little kids see the movie until they're older. Maybe 10 is a little old but I remember seeing it again recently and I had forgotten how intense it was. For little kids, especially sensitive kids, I wouldn't push it on them. Ultimately, every parent has to make that kind of decision for themselves.
I was 12 and it was the scariest film I'd seen to date. It felt really long at the time and when it was over I felt like I'd survived an ordeal. I did enjoy the movie, though. Seeing it again this year it was a bit disappointing that after the promise of the opening scenes it really devolved into a pure action movie when a bit more humanity along the way would have deepened the story. That said I liked the characters more than Siskel and Ebert, from how Grant put the little kid in his place at the beginning to Nedry's sniveling greed and Hammond's eccentric egoism.
I totally disagree with Ebert at 11:31. He references that early shot (shown on this episode) of the brachiosaurs roaming as being the only "majesty of these animals" moment in the picture....
Off the top of my head without having seen this movie in a decade, there are like 10+ scenes that all dwell on the miracle of having these creatures back on earth. Where they are saving the poisoned Triceratops and Dr. Grant lays his entire body on the creature and listens to it breathe, Hammond urging the newly born Raptor out of it's egg, the scene also shown in this episode where the brachiosaur is eating in the tree tops while grant and the kids watch, Grant admiring the flock patterns of the running dinos, the closing shot of the flying Pterodactyls, and more. I would also include the last shot of the T-rex as it deus ex machina'd it's way into the finale, roaring in the lobby and reclaiming the island and kind of transcending it's role as movie monster.
They could have had more shots of Dinosaurs peacefully grazing but we got plenty of it, too much more and the pacing would be off.

When the lawyer runs out of the Jeep and into the outhouse and Jeff Goldbloom says, "Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go" I nearly died. One of the funniest parts of the movie.
I remember seeing Jurassic park for the first time as a kid of 6 and still love it now and in 4K and great classic reviews by Ebert and siskel rip to true lovers of film
They were right about the homogenisation of the film industry and every film being the number one movie star doing his thing and also commenting on it at the same time.
Jurassic Park was one of their best top reviews ever done, the movie was a knockout in June of 93 red hot summer month and still remains one of my favorite dinosaur movies, but Last Action Hero had some funny but cheesy moments but didn't approve to S&E, but I miss their kickass show growing up watching it sometimes late at night when I couldn't sleep, thanks for the upload bro.

8:08 just goes to show how dense both of them could be. The absence of parents is invariably used because it forces the kids to deal with dramatic problems on their own--obviously, if the parents were around then the kids would run to them and the conflict would revolve around the parents instead.

JP 1 is terrific more than the lost world and the shortness of JP 3. The special effects in JP 1 are state of the art computer effects and I enjoyed it for Richard Attenborough and Jeff Goldblum
Before Jurassic Park was a movie, I read the book in one absorbing Sat. afternoon. When finished, I thot, "This is gonna be an awesome movie". Movie followed the book, except for the finish. I loved it!

I remember seeing this episode in 93 and feeling just the same as I do know... they were off base in their criticism of Jurassic Park, but I was so thankful they gave a spotlight to The Music of Chance, a terrific film that was completely overlooked at the time and forgotten today.
Chicago, the world, it was so different back then, I'll always be nostalgic about the late 80s-early 90s, so this is a refreshing look back

Loved they put THE conversation in Jurassic Park that you understand and appreciate it as you get older (loved the dinos as a kid but the coversations as an adult)
JP is little more than Crichton reworking Westworld, his first script. An amusement park where SOMETHING GOES WRONG and people are then chased by robots or dinosaurs.
Crichton wasn't a very original writer in that way. It always "something goes wrong" with SCIENCE and then some plucky characters come together to fight for survival.
Man, I liked the world a lot better in the 1980's and 1990's before the internet. It seemed like such a more simple, reasonable, and peaceful time. Getting reviews from these guys rather than all of these angry internet trolls.

I love the human characters in Jurassic Park, especially Sam Neills Alan Grant . Hes the Indiana Jones of this franchise. And theres plenty of awe. It's a timeless classic with great fun all around.
It's the sequels that have no awe.

The Last Action Hero is a cult classic. People didnt know how great a movie like that could be. It was Deadpool two to three decades before Deadpool. This movie didnt just break the 4th wall. It blew the wall to smithereens
They were bang on about JP-it did need more scenes of awe and it was too intense for kids 10 and under. I was 10 and was unprepared for what I saw but still loved it all the same.

I actually quite like Last Action Hero, though I feel it could have been done a lot better, the idea was better than the execution, and Gene was right, they could have cut at least 30 minutes from it.
I agree with Gene& Roger saying that Jurassic Park was too intense for kids under the age of 10.... one time (I saw this 4 times in the Theater; Thank you, Mr. Spielberg!!!) there was this kid about 7 or 8 years old sitting in the row in front of us, and I said to my date:"I don't think he's going to be able to handle this movie" His mother overheard me & rudely said"yes, he can, he's very mature for his age" "yeah, right; we'll see" I thought.....no more than 35 minutes later did she have to drag out her screaming crying kid out of the theater because he was too freaked out- heed our warnings!!
People in these comments are seemingly so hung up on their relatively minor criticisms of Jurrasic Park that they fail to see the overall positive review. I guess when a movie is regarded as a “classic” people seem to believe that means it’s unassailable or entirely beyond any criticism.

it actually makes my brain hurt that there was genuine belief among the people behind _Last Action Hero_ that _theirs_ was the movie to see that weekend - that Steven Spielberg, that hack, was a washed-up has-been after _Hook_ and that NOTHING could stop their movie because it had Arnold Schwarzenegger in it.
and the _most_ mind-blowing part? they weren't THAT off the mark with Hollywood's general thinking in '92/93 - that Arnold was SUCH a huge star that nothing could possibly stop _Last Action Hero._
it's one of the all-time greats in terms of Hollowood Hubris; they KNEW [see: THOUGHT] they could do _anything_ they wanted because they KNEW [see: THOUGHT] that they could totally get away with it.
the lame jokes, the farting corpse, the smug, detached air of intellectual superiority to their audience . . . _fuck_ Steven Spielberg and his dinosaurs, man! our movie's got Arnold? our movie's gonna play all Summer and beyond! we CANNOT FAIL.
then the dailies started coming in. then the test audiences rejected it with the hateful force of a thousand atomic bombs. then the trailer for _Jurassic Park_ dropped, and so did the world's collective jaw. then the word in town was nearly religiously rhapsodic about what Mr. Spielberg & Co. had made.
i imagine that for the people responsible for _Last Action Hero,_ those final two weeks leading up to that weekend in May '93 were like the last days of the Reich in Berlin once Russian artillery had opened up near enough to be heard in the city center.
i imagine a _lot_ of petulant, cruel blame was hurled with abandon AND at the people probably deserving it the very _least._ probably on that poor, young kid who i'm sure did he best and who wasn't even there to defend himself . . . or old enough to fully understand that they were never gonna let him act again.
things were probably completely relaxed yet somehow even more ridiculous in the Schwarzenegger palace, though; a completely firm knowledge that his movie was going to come out on top, because _screw_ the critics and the people who actually know about making movies. Arnold in movie? Movie do well.

Despite both recommending it, they’re completely out to lunch. I guess I’m not as deep or smart as they are or were, because I found ALL the characters interesting. And there was a sense I’d “awe” to seeing the dinosaurs. They got this wrong.
I think they over emphasized their negative points. Hammond is an interesting character, but I agree with them about Grant and Satler being a bit dull.
There certainly were attempts to bring in awe in the 2nd half of the movie, but they were kind of right that the movie turns into a monster flick instead pf a Spielberg "wonder" movie. I love Jurrassic Park but the first act is certainly the best part.

Just goes to show you how wrong they were. Jurassic park was one of if not THE most ground breaking and influential movies of the time. 30 years later and it's still impressive. The actors were spot on and they are still making the films. I thought the choices in actors was fantastic and it did NOT get boring at all. But, these two have gotten it wrong so many times and they over analyze everything when if the movie keeps you interested, it did its' job. Not appropriate for kids under 10? I think it appealed to them MOST. Thumbs down to you both for getting yet another one WRONG again.

What was funny about this show was after they did the big two films, I was thinking, "What else are they going to review?" The last one was very touching the way they talked about it.
Every time I rewatch one of these reviews I’m always surprised at 1) how sensitive, fearful, and weak stomached both are, 2) how absolutely overprotective of kids’ sensibilities they seem to be, 3) how they either seem to only watch parts of the movies (in that they seem to critique a film for not having a certain quality and ignore all the parts of the movie that demonstrate said quality 4) and lastly, how they seem very narrow minded in the quality of a film based on how a particular demographic will view and understand the picture. They are two vary intelligent and skilled reviewers so I’ll have to assume that many of these shortcomings were a product of the show format (in that they only had 3-4 min per movie to talk and discuss their thoughts), rather than them being cultural snobs....
It's curious to think about what they would say regarding how films have changed over the last 20+ years (and how they might review them).

The Jurassic Park review was interesting considering that Gene said in the review for Carnosaur a month before this movie came out that the humans are much more interesting (most particularly Diane Ladd) than the dinosaurs and in here, the dinosaurs are much more interesting than the humans other than Jeff Goldblum.

It wasnt a missed opportunity. it pretty much follows the book up until the end and is still an amazing movie with good characters regardless of what these ass clowns say.

I was 10 when I saw Jurassic Park twice in the theatres. I was shaking in my seat but never felt I wanted to shut my eyes. In fact I was glued to the screen. Awesome movie, even in 2017.
Are you British? They say "erbs" in America generally. It's accepted as common usage there. I know Brits like to pronounce the "H" in Herbs but you should respect the cultural difference even if you think it's silly personally. Language evolves differently when you are separated by region. Canada, Australia, America, Britain. There's nothing wrong with it changing differently in different places. It's just natural ;)

While it's true that Jurassic Park wasn't big on character deelopment, I think they kind of missed the point. Dinosaurs and special effects aside, it's more of a thinking movie; lots of scientific, philosophical, and ethical questions to consider. Even Crichton himself admitted that his stories were not driven by characters, but by concepts. To each his own, and it's a fair criticism that weak characters are not a great way to make a movie, but I feel that if you approach the film with an almost academic mindset then it comes off as being much better. Probably helps if you have read the book, too.

What Ebert is saying is nonsense ... As a teenager watching this my jaw was on the floor the whole time any dinosaurs were on the screen. It had an equal amount of awe inspiring imagery as something like Close Encounters. ... I'd definitely agree with them that a lot of the acting was a bit cringeworthy though.

Everyone is different. I was fine with it, but more sensitive kids could definitely be freaked out by it.
As a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist, as with most kids I loved dinosaurs. But when I saw it, I was disappointed with this movie--the animals looked so fake.
