    No wonder when ever I ate bread, even though my digestion would be fine, I felt tired and sluggish. Having higher protein and fats has improved my focus and energy.

      @@HeroicBrian Grain brain is not true information. I get sluggish too if i eat bad vegan food like bread cus Bread is always a shit food. Quinoa/wild rice/potatoes,fruit,vegetables etc never gives this effect, instead it gives me the opposite effect which is high energy.
      Correct vegan food gives a very light feeling in your stomach. it feels like u didnt even eat because its so light, and it never gives you a food coma or reduce your energy level after the meals

    I can speak from personal experience from the great pains I've gone through trying different diets to control my seborrheic dermatitis (from candida overgrowth) ; David Perlmutter has hit the mark. I also tried a mostly vegitarian based diet which naturally included a large amount of grain (which promotes candida) and I just saw my health get worse, feeling tired all the time. I finally found what works for me and that's a diet based primarlily on animal protein and fat with a much smaller portion of fruit and vegetables, legumes, etc... I don't eat grain period and don't even touch potato anymore. I find that I'm not as hungry as I used to be. I also drink oregano tea which is a natural fungicide. Works wonders! I highly recommend it!

    Another excellent note. Been a fan of nutrition forever, and though I'm mostly fit I could tweak this area. I used to be on a raw food diet, then became addicted to running (20 some odd marathons) which led me back to bad carbs and off raw food. i don't necessarily think I need to go raw again but the principle of eating real food is great, and I felt great doing it. I realized after this video that I am eating a ton of wheat (bread) these days because its quick. I'm going to get myself off that and back into being as healthy as I can be. Thanks again.

    I've been recovering from a terrible concussion and cutting out carbs has been the single most important factor of healing. I switched over to the Keto diet and it helps a ton because I don't have inflammation and it causes better blood flow to the brain.

    Do you think vegetable oils are also a factor that cause further inflamation? (like canola, sunflower etc.)

    • @HeroicBrian
      @HeroicBrian  4 года назад

      Great question!
      There are a few sources in the Optimize membership that talk about this:
      ----> www.optimize.me/search/inflammation
      Think: If your omegas are not in good balance, having too much Omega 6 will bump up that inflammation. (those oils are full of omega 6!)

    Do you think there are people who acutally thrive on bread? I stopped eating gluten since 2014 completely. It happened to me 3 times that I was not at home overneight and had to eight bread at night, and I had the impression that I sleept very well that night, normally I have issues falling asleep, especially when I sleep in a foreign house/bed.

  • @Romanamon
    @Romanamon 9 лет назад +2

    Really exciting that you're exploring nutritional stuff as well! I've gotta give a shout out to Emily Deans, an American psychiatrist who's been blogging about how nutrition and other evolutionary factors impact mood and wellbeing for a couple years now. She has a blog on Psychology Today www.psychologytoday.com/blog/evolutionary-psychiatry which I think you'll love. It's funny seeing the 'traditional' psychiatrists and psychologists get up in arms in the comments section, who seem to be cast under this collective spell that the brain is somehow exempt from the rest of the body when it comes to health.

    Can you tell me some of the ways you "use" coconut oil? My GF and I are trying to get her mom to use more in her diet and she suffers from dementia. Another good fat source is Macadamia Nuts even though they are priced through the roof! Keep up the good work!

    • @HeroicBrian

      Thomas Scott We use it in our greens and eat a lot of coconut milk fat as well. MCT oil is another great way to get coco fat. I will do more on this soon!! (Including a recipe my wife uses to make what we call "fat berries" with coco fat, etc.)

    But what do i replace grains with i been increasing my fat intake(peanuts) lately and decent protein but carbs are still needed for testosterone what's a cheap and viable alternative to grains?

    • @HeroicBrian
      @HeroicBrian  9 лет назад

      GladX I personally eat a lot of coconut fat (+ oil) + avocados + olives (and no nuts--lots of potential sensitivities there for me/a lot of people). Mucho fat + greens/veggies + moderate animal protein is what's working for me really well these days. Perlmutter presents his approach in his book in detail!
      Not sure what you're basing your "carbs are still needed for testosterone" theory on but Perlmutter presents a compelling case we evolved with very limited carb intake and that it's not essential.

    I dont think that Dr P s advocating a vegan diet. Far from it. His book corroborates Nine Teicholz, Gary Taubes, and Dr.Robert Lustig about carbs, good fats, protein. My only argument with Dr P is that he is vague about a test for gluten senstivity, which several other sources claim does not exist, yet.

    You put it in a way as if being vegan is connected to low fat. I am also vegan and I always ate high fat (2 Avokados a day, olives, olive oil) living close to italy always made me eat a lot of olives. And of course there was a time as a vegan where I stopped eating all fats (in order to get a six pack), that time my brain didnt work at all. So I dont think its the veganism that causes issues, its the low fat.

      Agree. It's not evolutionary history, it's geographical situation. Native Americans were Hunter gatherers , those in northern Europe ate alot of of fish. These people did exist through out the world and not just the biblical characters that existed as well with their own native foods.
