My Dad died in a brutal truck accident in 1957. He was 27 years old, I was 4. Yes, it is a tough job you do and I deeply thank you and the millions of other drivers out there. I always wanted to drive rigs, but never have. Maybe in the Next Life. Thank all of you for your skill, dedication, and professionalism. Stay safe!!

Wow,1957. Trucks didn't have power steering back then and Jake brakes were unheard of.

Sorry for the loss of your father.

You’re exactly right…just this week a driver from my home town was on 485 around Charlotte NC and a car on the other side forced another big truck to take evasive action and crossed the median and hit him and killed him…left out and little over an hour from the house and he’s dead. You just never know!

That truck crossing reminded me of an incident about 20 years ago. I left Lyman, CO, about 5 a.m. and headed east on I70. It was a dark night. When you get a few miles out, there is a decent rise in the road. As I came up the grade and approached the top, I noticed 3 trucks on the opposite side parked on the side with all their lights on. I was looking at them and in the median to see what I could see. I suddenly realized there was a wall of trailer in front of me as my headlights hit it. A truck had crossed over the median and gone tractor-nose-first into the ditch on my right side, knocking out all the lights. I managed to get around the back end of the trailer, which only partially covered the left lane. There was airborne dust and whatever in the air...so it had just happened before I came over the top. I thought about stopping. But with the 3 trucks on the other side and knowing I would collapse if I got out of the truck, I kept going. When I stopped at the first truck stop in Kansas to get breakfast, I was still in enough shock that my knees buckled as I took my first steps.

Steve and Orwell, living legends. My grandfather was an ice man when he met my grandmother and he was on a horse and wagon. He went over and fought in World War 2 with General Patton driving fuel tankers and received the Bronze star for making a tire patch in the battlefield and was lucky enough to make it home. He was a commercial truck driver by that time and had driven trucks for many years, he was driving a friends truck to deliver a load because his friend was sick and wanting the load to get there on time. The left front tire blew out that was supposedly a new tire and he went into the woods on I 95 in Caroline county, Va. less than 30 miles from home. Rest in peace Doc. I think of you every day.

No sooner I hop out, a guy thanked me for my service. I said to myself right then and there that would be the last time I ever did that!

I'm a bit glad I couldn't take up a job I was offered with a Canadian company driving between CAN - US doing reefer long haul. It seems it's a dangerous world on the road over there. Granted, the driving standards by car drivers over here in the UK are bad but there it seems worse and then you have to factor in the extreme weather conditions you guys have to contend with.
Keep the wheels on the ground and keep safe mate. Jim, London UK. 🤙

When I first started riding a motorcycle, I was following behind a mobile home being pulled down the road. I was a good distance behind it and all of a sudden it felt like someone hit me in my helmet with a hammer, and my face shield came off. Come to find out, a lug nut came off the trailer, was thrown up and hit me in the helmet in the face shield. If I hadn't been wearing that helmet and face shield, that would have been a very bad day for me..

@@fsctrucking You can avoid tornadoes by using your eyes and knowing your surroundings by what everyone is doing around you. If all of them are pulled over to the side of the road, you know you're near a tornado or one about to form. Other option is to just use common sense by instincts of if you feel uncomfortable with the surroundings around you, pull off the road or try to get by a place you can run into really quick if one's coming. I know one time when there was weird looking clouds overhead and I thought it was going to hail, I got off the backroads onto a well traveled route to get home in case I needed to pull off someplace to take cover.

I sat in the truck as the sky turned green & the cloud base started visibly rotating. I didn't know if i should try to run inside, buckle up & hold on, or go ahead & bend over put my head between my legs & kiss my... goodbye.

About 6 months ago a truck driver almost took me out, the only thing that saved me is my fast reaction time and horsepower. I was headed to vegas and it was about 8:00 PM and I was starting to climb the cajon pass so I down shifted my car to get the rpm's up for climbing the hill and out of nowhere I suddenly had a flat bed in front of me being pulled by a 389. The driver didn't want to go the speed all the other trucks were going so he suddenly jumped into my lane without a turn signal and the bumper on the trailer clipped the front right corner of my bumper cover and ripped half of it off. If I wouldn't have swerved and hammered down I would have been spun out. Trucks are not even allowed in the lane I was in. I got in front of the truck and tried to get the truck to pull over and the driver was ignoring me. I was already on the phone witb the chp and it took 20 minutes for the officers to catch up with us and pull the driver over. The driver tried offering me cash to keep it off insurance and I told the driver just the front indicator lights are almost $5000 a piece. My insrance already paid out the $18,000 in damages and they are going after the drivers insurance.

My dad's uncle was killed in a truck accident back in the early 70s. He and his co-driver were in a White/Freightliner cabover and the left steer tire blew out. The tire wrapped around the axle and tie rod, sucking the tie rod to the axle. This put the truck into a hard left, across the median and head-on with another semi. All three were killed on impact. A picture had been taken of my dad's uncle with the truck just before he left on that run. My dad has had that picture framed and hanging on the wall for many years as a reminder that any day could be your last.

Wow, I miss hearing the overnight broadcast of Dale Sommers (and Misses Lumpy), on the clear channel station WLW 700 AM of Cincinnati, Oh. Steve’s OK, but no one can replace “The Trucking Bozo”!
“The good old days” when men loved women and women loved babies. Now, you never know what kind of woke, stuck on stupid and wicked freaks of nature you gotta deal with on the daily basis to the point that you’re better off living alone on an island in the middle of the Pacific ocean. LOL
Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell was the other broadcast that kept me company many a night. Art Bell’s shoes proved to be way too big for George Noory
Anywho, Steve, even though you’ve got a face for the radio and a voice for the silent movies, you’re OK bud, you’ve got decent content and I like the old school attitude towards trucking ! LOL

The lady on the passenger side was seriously injured. The driver was charged for allot of thing's. He was sentence to prison for a very long time. We seen the video of the dual tires coming inch's of hitting Jesse. When they flew by him. He quickly hops off the chopper and he's signaling me to get him a cigarette. Cop's had to get Jesse back from attacking the driver of the dumptruck. From another dash camera that was played in court. U could tell how far the dual tires were flying by Jesse. Lucky the edited out the cusswords (Jesse) he look's at me and said they edited out me cussing. All u could hear is bleeps.

The ELD always knows better than the driver when he is too tired to drive. They should put ELD's in 4 wheelers too.

I hear if you cry about it they’ll take them away. 😂. Why couldn’t the accident have just been an unfortunate part of the gig? Why is it that people like you always need a conspiracy? I bet if you imagined the driver being a foreigner suddenly you’d be completely fine with the driver being at fault. Just like every time there’s an accident the drivers on the cb are blaming four wheelers, then they find out it’s a truck and it becomes “oh those foreigners” then they realize it’s a guy that is an American it becomes “ those darn ELD’s!”
Ultimately we find the driver never did a pre trip and wrecked because of an equipment malfunction or because they were texting and driving …
People like you …. “🤬🤬🤬🤯🤯🤯🤯😡, it has to be because of something that fits my political beliefs”

My wife and i like taking toad trips, so I put a CB (daughter got me for fathers day) into my ford fusion(handle is 858Fusion)app do you use that warns you about vehicles on the side of the road. When we get our RV and go full-time in that, I will still have my CB. Please be safe and watch out for stupid
