Well, you jump in the truck and go anywhere anytime. Only restrictions are a 10 hrs mandatory rest. Sometimes, these guys are just sitting and waiting for a permit, escort, cops, loading, and the right time to move. I spoke with a driver who was stuck at the WV border for 6 days waiting for the permit to be approved, it takes a lot of patience.

Kingpin is no more stressed here than a legal load. The truck can only pull so hard.
To clarify, the kingpin only needs to withstand the maximum force applied by the truck, the weight of the trailer is irrelevant.

@@RobertDrawbridge seems I remember something like that, it's been a while since. Yeah that's real brilliant to be running 55 or whatever the posted limit is and then almost stopping for every bridge deck on the beltway. The flashing red, blue and yellow lights surrounding the load with all the escorts are not going to prevent an accident. Just the opposite, its been known to happen. Kind of like bugs flying at night and attracted to the lights. A true scenario where a college student that run into the tail end of a big load with police and civilian escorts and caused the accident. "Gee was there an accident here?" asked the dummy. Truck drivers response "not until you got here." This happened back in early 90's I think. State police escorts in Maryland change out at county lines and those tragedy happened on the right shoulder side of road with three lanes of traffic on 40/48.

8:01 It's very expensive to build a road capable of withstanding that much weight. Also, there are issues with clearances of bridges, utility lines, and traffic to name a few considerations when you haul an oversized/overwide load. The state decides what route the driver is to use. The docks in Baltimore, MD see a large amount of freight moving in and out of the port. A case in point is the railroad tracks, where the load bottomed out. C S X Railroad had to be informed of the move, along with the time of crossing their tracks. You can hear a locomotive's horn in the background. This was a time sensitive move.

Cuts down on wear and tear to raise it while turning and makes it easier. I run a 7 axle stretch and in sharp turns I have to raise my axle otherwise it pushes me straight instead of turning plus chews up tires. I couldn't tell if this guy has a steerable push axle or a solid mounted axle. A really cool video though.
Im currently looking for a company I can grow into a 13 axle set up. I have a lot left to learn but Ill get there one day. I watch videos like this trying to gain as much information as I can. Not a lot of resources or knowledge being shared in this line of work. Id imagine there is less than 10,000 people in the world that can do what these guys do.

Based on the sound alone and what is available for the W990, I would say the Cummins X15.

In Europe we always laugh at the ridiculous amount of axles and wheels you guys need for that weight. The weight per axle you got are allowed to carry is almost unworkable.😅
