- Опубликовано: 21 янв 2022
- Welcome to an hour long wrenching session on the mighty BMW E60 M5 followed by Autobahn driving. In this episode we do throttle actuator service on the S85 V10 engine, install Bilstein B6 DampTronic shocks, fix the mirror unfolding problem and replace the sunroof seal. This formerly neglected and cheap M5 is now fully mechanically sorted!

The broken plastic piece in the shock is a broken shipping puck from when the vehicle was delivered. It keeps the front of the car raised for removal off the transporter to not scratch the bumper. Looks like the dealer who delivered the car might have not removed it. If the shipping puck was not removed and the car was driven at highway speeds, the spring could have been displaced from the correct position since the car was still raised on that one side. Once the shipping puck cracked and broke off from the impact of driving at highway speed, the spring settled into the incorrect position.
😮
Yep. That's what I was thinking too. That means the dealer that prepped that car after delivery straight up left that piece in
Seen few complains about dealership forgetting to remove these on F80s as well.
@@snikwadRR Sometimes the transport people are not gentle to the cars and the top spacers get jammed WAY up into the strut boot. When I did PDIs I'd do my best to remove them if they were stuck but some were just beyond retrieval without taking the strut apart, but that means they were also out of the way of suspension travel and it was benign to leave them where they lay.
The puck's are there for when the car is secured on a ship or train that it is stable. (transport blocks)
ONE HOUR LONG!!!!!!!!!! SRETEN HAS BLESSED US WITH THIS ONE!!!!!
I know, its like a late christmas gift

I love his videos. Great for just learning a lot about cars in general and he’s so informative about components to the car

I never met a mechanic who’s so much passionate for doing his work under so much perfection. Congrats, Bro!
Mechanic or enthusiast vlogger?
Sreten i have NEVER binge watched anything on RUclips before until i found your station. I want to thank you for instilling the belief that regular people with a bit of understanding can move forward and take care of a BMW. I just bought a 2016 535i and i already have some knowledge and now feel empowered to take on things i hadn't done before.
The heater does not make too much noise. It's perfectly fine.
Stay warm buddy.
♨👍
I agree with you, its not noisy at all
Nunca tinha visto outro brasileiro nos comentários, bom gosto, amigo!
The heater is fine, no worries. I like how you don't play music while wrenching. I don't mind the music when you are using the blast cabinet. Love your attention to detail.
You can't work on the car if your back is f***ed or you've got pneumonia. Keep the heater on!!!
@@AriettiJoao Opa!

so satisfying watching a master in their element.
impeccable editing too.
man.. the amount of knowledge.. self restraint not to cut corners and precision handy work on you is just.. spot on 💓
"stopped by the dealer to get robbed" best line ever hahaha
Finally! a RUclipsr that rebuilds struts the right way! All the ones I've seen always removes/installs the nut with an impact, without bothering to hold the shock shaft with a wrench, risking blowing the shock without it even seeing a km.
Also important with ball joints. Dont install new one with impact. It spins The joint against the nylon inside and it is shot instantly
The pointing fingers to the airboxes....details, details of humor. I love it!!
That was THE quickest 67+ minutes of video I've viewed in a long time! Normally, when I notice a video of similar duration, I either skip through it, or don't watch it at all! But not with yours! They aren't subject to such criteria! Ever! Your content is ALWAYS informative, entertaining, and inspiring! Keep it up! And congrats on achieving 300,000(and growing!) subscribers! You've earned and deserve all the success that comes your way! Cheers!
So, I did have work to get done but now, it can wait. I'll just take this hour and seven minutes for myself and enjoy another awesome M539 episode. As always, thank you for all the hard work!
Get to work , you lazy bastard ! . . . or you'll be here all day. 😁
You came, we see, and you continue to conquer! Did the seal help with wind noise on your glorious sunroof?
Me too 😀
1 hour of M539 Restorations? Yes please! What a way to start my weekend!
this channel is awesome because of all the little jokes and the excellent timing on the edit cuts. 'grease up rodney' it clearly shows the effort you put into making the episodes is as much a craft as the work you are putting in these cars. cheers!
I don't even own a BMW, but love watching the reasoning behind this massive experience floating around the complex issues.
Yeah me neither. I just like watching stuff.
Replacing the rod bearings was the biggest single thing that catapulted you into RUclips superstardom imo. I hope this gets appreciated in the long run. I'm an Audi guy, but I appreciate your awesomeness nonetheless.
Actually its harder to find Rod bearings than to get them off the car, and put on the new ones
Since you're an Audi guy, if you or someone you know is looking for a new/refurbished set of chrome rims for an early 2000s A8 I have some that I'm going to be selling in the very near future so please do let me know!
@@mds2465 Alas, my dream of owning an A8L W12 has not yet come true. Sorry, I don't know anyone who still owns a 4E generation.
Your running commentary as you work is priceless! Of all the RUclips channel’s I watch your channel is by a huge margin the very best. Please don’t ever change a thing!
Thank you!!
Totally agree to everything is this comment 💪🏽
I agree, better than annoying music which really wreck some good commentary. I really feel like he is talking to us.
Totally agree.
Gotta appreciate that you refurbish your own parts again and again, trying to do as much as possible. It's not only great for saving money, but you learn so much of the parts too. Imho, wish more mechanics/hobbyist would do that.
I'm going to miss seeing the E60 being worked on. It's one of those poster cars for me. Really enjoyed this project Sreten, can't wait to see the E32 get worked on!
There are RUclips videos 4 to 15 mins long that I fast forward through. Then there are the videos by Sreten which I cannot miss even a second off. Man, you are a genius, down to earth and a straight shooter. Absolutely brilliant stuff.
Another hour that stops time and makes you forget everything.. just peaceful..
“Leave the wood trim alone. I’m not gonna replace it by carbon stupid fiber. I’d rather set it on fire than do that.”
I love your style, Sreten.
Sreten, the quality and content of your videos is well documented by all of the comments. I want to thank you for helping me through a very painful recovery from shoulder surgery. I discovered your videos using RUclips to distract myself from the beyond red-line ache. I loved every minute of every one and for the all too brief time I was distracted enough to stop thinking about the pain and enjoy a few moments of relief. I am fully recovered now but have not stopped watching, you are now my treadmill companion. Now want to find another 2002 530i which I stupidly sold.
Cheers my friend

@@famus801 Best way to work. Saves you from a lot of trouble with bad cars, and bad customers.
Amazing work man! E60 M5 gets bad publicity. It’s essentially, like you said, a 4 door super car and should be maintained and treated as such. It’s one well engineered machine and s great car in the right hands. Keep up the good work and I am jealous that I can’t drive that fast in my car here in USA!
Not a BMW guy but this channel makes me consider one from time to time. As always great content and dig the longer video. Cheers!
This newly wrapped steering wheel is just beautiful! Absolutely love that car.
Honestly i don't understand how you made a 1 hour video feel like 5 minutes. Love your content and keep up the great work !!
I agree...just amazing! 🤣
I love watching this. I unfortunately lost my E61 M5 and I miss it greatly 😔 (especially when watching and hearing this 😁) but seeing yours looked after so well and making you so happy also definitely warms the heart!
Your content can't get any better, I've learned an uncountable amount of tips and tricks to work on my car while laughing in the process, thanks you Sreten, I will forever be grateful.
My girlfriend already knows that when an M539 video is uploaded to give me my time to watch it. :D You are a legend Sreten! You are seriously inspiring to start work on my own car. e39
My happy place, a full 60 minutes of watching, listening and learning how to replace the shocks on an M5. Entertaining, educational and humorous. You always know when a video/film is keeping your attention, it ends and you’re disappointed because you want more. 😊 Masterful editing too, so many other channels should take a lesson from Sreten. Thank you for making my day. 🙏🏼👍🏼
The results from the Aqua blast treatment are absolutely stunning. Which somehow fits perfectly with your way of working.
You are a great communicator. Meaning I am following everything you are explaining and find it very interesting. I like your dry sense of humour as well.
Hell yeah. One hour of Sreten being a methodical maniac. You really love to see it!

This series is getting better with every episode! Love the editing.
Yet another great video Sreten. Thank you for making it 1hr and not a single advert.
How good did those valve covers turn out!? Real rippers.
Although you do know you'll need to take the engine out now, break it down and clean every part of it as well. It just wouldn't look right otherwise.
Of always liked the V10 M5s but I'd happily have a touring version. The fastest station wagon in the world.
Npq for the future. I always look forward to all of your videos but this and the Alpina, in a back to back test, that would just be heaven.
@Jonas Jonaitis ok it is the Mercedes but it is not as fun as this m5 and the m5 is more refined with better overall build quality compared to the Mercedes or Audi
@Jonas Jonaitis bad reliability doesn’t m mean it has bad quality and it is bad design because BMW’s are built to breakdown after the warranty and once you change the parts it will run for the same km it did before breaking down
I took our hoover apart to repair it. Your careful methodical clean approach has taught me how to tackle all sorts of repairs. Was für ein Mensch!! Best regards from Switzerland.
I grew up without a father but I really love cars, wish I had someone like you to look up to. Having to learn everything all by myself gets a bit tough, not having the tools, not being strong enough for the screws, I just wish I had someone like you to laugh around with. I'm only 16, and I have been getting into cars for about 3 years now. I just love engines and everything to do with cars. I owned a white 2010 lci e90, and a spacegray 2012 m sport e92, with the carbon roof etc. but I love your videos. You teach me a lot. Thank you ❤️.
Best way to start the weekend!
Finest entertainment and wrenchfest, as per usual!
Hopefully he will be more careful, no more crushes from now on specially on this V10.. BTW.. i wouldn't bother painting it just leave it as it is is working perfectly, on body parts has no surface rust just few dents & small scratches which are part of patina & can be buffed out.. safe roads & stay out of troubles Streten and keep posting fixing these incredible machines ! ;0)

Sreten, I stumbled across this series thinking it would be some amateur trying to fix the E60 M5 V10 on a shoestring budget. I couldn't have been more wrong! The quality of your work is exceptional and love your sense of humour. It must take you ages to edit these videos so professionally but it makes all the difference - thank you. 1:05:28 Agree entirely about wood trim. My family had an E90 335i with the wood trim, sport package, manual, etc. The interiors from this era of BMW are fantastic, and I really think the wood trim suits it perfectly. Beautiful car, wish we never sold it.

Making me want a V10 M5 again! I had an E60 550i and I can’t praise enough how solid and well put together that car felt. I think the E60 does not get enough love for how good of a car it can be. Even with my E46 M3 I replaced it with, I still miss that car a bit. M5 would be the next logical step.
