I work at a BMW dealer, and I guarantee no tech would take the same care that you did building this engine. I enjoyed watching the whole process. Cheers and congrats on the smooth running engine 👍
Edit: I think the point I was trying to make was that Aplina had told Sreten that this car should be repaired only by those qualified to do so. However, in his care, I guarantee that he has done a better job than most people "qualified" in Alpina's eyes. That is the difference between doing this on the clock as a day job, and working on a car as a hobby/ enthusiast. Do I expect dealer techs to take this level of care when working on a car? No. They have book times to beat all while juggling a good quality job that they can be proud of.
I'm not bashing dealer Techs. I am a dealer tech lol

I went though an apprenticeship with BMW, mainly learned from senior engineers experience, however repair manuals were very rarely viewed as efficiency was always put before quality. It’s not poor mechanics in dealerships, it’s more the system that’s at fault. Shame really but that’s why I left the trade.

I Created a Monster... I bought my 15 year old son a 2000 BMW 540i 6 speed manual for his 1st car 10 years ago... He still has that 540i (that is still his baby)...he has done work on every single component on that car over the years. He now also owns a 2000 E39 M5 that he put a Supercharger on from another M5 Wreck that he bought and completely gutted. he also has a 2008 550i, a 535i, a 530i, a 1997 540i, and yesterday he brought a 2007 BMW Alpina here to my shop... He is thrilled to have this B7 Alpina...it needs a little work but she runs and drives and sounds Great !

In previous models, Alpina used coolers that were oem “Middle East” spec and tricky to find from aftermarket suppliers. The supercharger had a few revisions & warranty replacements so well done on the quality rebuild. Also, Alpina assembled the full cooling pack on the frame and supplied to BMW to be fitted on the line. The pack was probably fitted before the headlights & anything else removable at the front.

I just wanted to say that thanks to your content, I bought my first BMW. That was 3 BMW's ago. I love your content and genuinely aspire to do what you do. I'm a recently qualified mechanic in the UK and I am soon to start working for Mercedes ( I know but the dealership owner also owns BMW so there is a plan here). I hope to eventually move into doing what you do, even on a smaller scale, and would never have dreamed it possible without the way you inspire us all. Fantastic work as always Sreten, Cheers!

I'm so happy for you man, must be nice to see it all come together, the million of hours spent rebuilding it to finally see and hear the engine idle so smoothly. Can't wait to see you put the accelerator down on the autobahn, well after the 1000kms gentle driving keeping it below 4000rpm of course. Enjoy your well deserved vacation ;)

Such a good feeling when you rebuild an engine.. in it just runs and works so smooooth! My first rebuild was a M57D30 that got water damaged (bent piston rods ect.)... Customer wanted a full rebuild. Its the best feeling .. GJ Sreten!

This was by far the most interesting project you’ve done on your channel. Good to see someone actually fully rebuilding an alpine engine and actually making it work. Well done Sreten!

As much as I can appreciate Sreten's ability as a technician, entertainer, and of course video editor... the thing that really stands out about this channel is the community. Nearly every video and every vehicle has viewers of the channel involved in nearly every step of the process. Specialized services, OE part discounts, rare components impossible to find at a dealership, even this very car came from a viewer if I recall correctly. This is an amazing place for all of us Bimmer nuts to gather together and watch a genius give these cars the treatment they deserve. Thanks for another excellent video.

Mate! Congratulations! You've come a long way and this is just another pinnacle of your dedication and hard work. I can't even begin to think about how nervewrecking the first start up must've been. But now she runs. And you've earned yourself a pretty decent holiday. Enjoy it and we'll wait for part 120938 of this project (and others as well) after you're back.
    Also: "Pressconference" cracked me up!

Hopefully my beautiful Italy has given you the right rest you absolutely deserve. Love you.

Well done! I can't begin to imagine the stress of first firing up an engine that you (re-)built yourself. One day I might make a build engine for my MX-5 and experience the feeling for myself :) Enjoy your vacation, you truly earned it.

I felt it when you started it and it ran for the first time. That relief, that excitement. I had thatsame feeling after I changed the turbo on my old car ('06 120d) that shat the bed after ONE YEAR of ownership.

SRETEN I just want to tell you I worked at a European car shop and I have done several drivetrain swaps on 550 and 750 BMWs that use that engine and I know what a huge job it is and I wanted to tell you you did a fantastic job on that car! Your commitment to putting everything back correctly and properly is second to none! I'm proud of you for sticking with it and bringing her back to life when anybody else would have just trashed it. (Hoovie I'm looking at YOU!) ;) ENJOY your week earned vacation!!!! You deserve it! We ALL love ya and will be here waiting when you get back.

I love this channel, you have good humor, don't play crap music and fast forward through what you are doing, giving our brain cell's a chance to learn without distraction. You restore and repair these car's very meticulously, and take your time to get it perfect. I like western truck and tractor repair, because he work's on everything, and sometimes at the jobsite in the dirt, and all different weather. He tells good stories to, you might like him, he is honest, and is a good trouble shooter like you are. Thanks for the video, I was thinking it was gonna be awhile. God bless.

Lost for words! What an amazing episode. I was properly anxious on the supercharger rebuild, first time I have seen inside one of those. The key take away for me is all those hardened O-rings, Nitrile rubber (Which I think is what the O-rings will be made of) will harden with temperature, and the extra 10 degrees or so from the Nikasil bore spec thermostat will have really accelerated O-ring breakdown. Now, with the 'proper' liners and lower temp thermostat the engine will last longer and be more reliable, I'm sure of that. Super, super job.
