    Awesome videos. I followed the short method to replace oil pump but I’m getting no oil pressure. I don’t believe the pump is rotating bc the oil filter is dry. Should the chain be able to rotate freely when you are removing and reinstalling wheel/sprocket? Wondering if the chain came off from the shaft above…

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  2 года назад +1

      Chain should be attached on one end to the crankshaft gear and not spin freely. Sounds like the chain came off

    If there was a broken rod, you need to replace the pick up tube. Ah, If I break a rod I have bigger problems than a pick up tube. LOL.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад +1

      No doubt.....some replacement engines dont come with the pickup tube and thats when some people take it off the old engine and try to reuse it. You never know if there are small pieces of metal inside. Thats why a new pickup tube is recommended.

      @arthurrodesiler3109 6 лет назад

      MotorCity Mechanic Seen so many engines destroyed by people not changing oil when it is needed
      Changing oil is the number 1 thing you can do for your engine
      So far I have never had a engine oil related problem my whole life. Even when I drag race for close to 25 years
      Now that I said it stuff will happen
      Putting the fuel pump in the gas tank is one of the stupidest thing I have seen
      Could have been put on the frame somewhere. Gas goes back to the tank anyway so that would keep the pump cool
      Or at least make it easy to get to. They always go bad with more than half a tank of gas in the tank. I never let my tank run less then half empty
      Running low gas in tank burn them up faster since gas cools the pump

    Here is a tip. You may know it but for torx bits screws . Which I really hate with a passion
    If they start hard to start with dip your torx bit in valve grinding compound
    Really make them grap much better
    Works on any thing
    Works great on Phillips head screws to
    Just make sure you're valve grinding compound is well mixed.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 лет назад +1

      Its pretty much the same. The biggest difference is the oil pump pickup tube. Its a pain to get to the bolt that attaches. Otherwise I have done a few by just taking the lower stamped steel pan off. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

    • @thatfunnyguy6689
      @thatfunnyguy6689 4 года назад

      It's hard as fuck to do this on the challenger I did it but it was hard with the engine in the car them 2 screws at the back of the motor is the hardest part I used a flexible extension and a flexible socket

      I removed the shaker assembly and tried to zero in on where the noise is coming from, sounds like direct center of engine more towards the front but behind water pump(but I don't think it's the pump , car has 9700 Miles. Oil looks good no signs of metal. (I was thinking mds lifter or solenoid ). Makes a noise like marbles being shaken in a plastic cup and increases with rpm but doesn't get louder. Switching into track pak or sport mode makes no difference. Car performs perfect and doesn't effect drivablity. Rt side intake manifold does have oil around it towards rear.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад +1

      Very odd.....not something I have heard before. The lifters usually dont go bad on personal vehicles....mainly fleet vehicles. Never heard a sound from the MDS solenoid either. I am at a loss when it comes to what it might be.

    Great job , Dave!
    I was waiting for this video....
    I own a 2013 ram 1500 pentastar v6 and unfortunately I’m going mad for the P06dd code.
    I replaced 6 oil pressure senders , replaced the oil cooler assembly, replaced the oil pump itself but the code still persist.
    The mil illuminates at very low speed after few minutes of driving.
    I retorqued also the oil galley bolts that were loose but nothing resolve.
    I must have another pump?
    I’m very frustrated.

  • @moparbryan
    @moparbryan 6 лет назад +2

    What is the root cause for this repair does the pump fail altogether or?

    • @kipamore
      @kipamore 6 лет назад +4

      I asked David in the previous video. Turns out the electric solenoid which controls the pump output pressure gets flakey. It throws a code, don't remember the number, but it does NOT take out the engine, though it will affect the valve timing. That said, I've got two 2014 pentastars in Promasters, with 350k and 375k miles on them and no oil pump issues, so who knows. David said it's not a common problem but it can happen. Fingers crossed I guess.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks Kip for helping out. The code number is actually P06DD that typically ends up being the pump issue.

    • @kruelzombieful
      @kruelzombieful 3 года назад

      I know its a wiser choice to replace the whole pump but couldn't you just replace the solenoid for the PO6DD code repair?

      I actually did a video on this....there are two methods....using the special tool as in the video I am attaching a link to. The other is to remove the oil pressure sensor which isnt easy on many vehicles and on some it requires removal of the upper and lower intake to do that. ruclips.net/video/LuU3ZrcY_4o/видео.html

    You seem very knowledgeable on this engine. I replaced my transaxle and decided to do the rear main seal while I was in there. I got a genuine mopar part and the darn thing was at least 20 thou off in dimensions. Crank obviously sat too low in the seal and overall the seal didn't look like the right diameter at all. Took it back and looked at another one. Same problem! Ended up going aftermarket and that one fit like a glove! Do you have any explanation for that? Did chrysler have two versions of this engine with a later model crank mounted higher? Or is this just the state of affairs at chrysler quality control in general?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. I havent had to replace a rear main yet on that engine.....but if I do I will certainly keep an eye out to see what the difference is. From what I have seen they just dont leak....at least not in the area I am in. Thanks for pointing out the issue. If I ever get one I will try to remember to reply back to you to let you know what I found. Thanks again and make sure to subscribe.

      @@MotorCityMechanic Thanks! Yeah, I'd be interested in understanding what happened. Maybe by the time you have to do one the situation will be corrected and you won't have to deal with it. The mechanic at the dealer was stumped. No explanation and he said my only option was aftermarket. I ended up getting it from autozone, and the metal stamping pattern was identical. So you may want to look out for that.

    Great video as always! Is the oil pump a common failure on the Pentastar? About to get into a new JL, that's why I'm asking.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      Not very common but if your around them long enough as a tech you will eventually across one with the P06DD code which most times means oil pump replacement. I have seen 2 in the shop in the last month but it had been about 4 months since the last on
